Being this high up in the mountains made the realm's namesake seem that much more impressive.

The bolts of lightning searing stone and striking metal rods illuminated and deafened the village, as fig - or rather, cloud - rolled over the mountain village. A gust of wind had propelled the towering cloud overhead, bringing with it darkness, rain, and lightning. It had been rather sudden.

In all honesty, Mitsumi didn't mind the thunderstorms, usually. As long as you weren't foolish enough to stand on a building in the middle of one, there was nothing really to fear from them. It was simply an expression of nature's power: to be respected, but not feared. Too bad Mitsumi couldn't say the same thing about what lightning threatened to bring.

But... sudden storms were also irritating at times. Caught out without an umbrella or anything to ears off the rain, it was all Mitsumi could do but run for cover, pressing herself into an alcove as she gazed up at the roiling mass of dark cloud that had overtaken the village. It wasn't even that far from the Academy grounds where she had been putting in a little after-hours practice, and her jacket and hair were already soaked. She worked her hands through long purple hair, squeezing out water, as she considered what to do next. The temperature had dropped suddenly, and she couldn't to get sick. So waiting out the storm wasn't an option. The notion of darting through the freezing rain wasn't exactly pleasant, either.

A crack of lightning illuminated everything in white, and a peal of nearby thunder rattled through her. If the storm had rolled in this quickly, it may also depart quickly, but how long would that take? Hours?

She could seek refuge in a nearby house or business, but... she pressed her lips together. Mitsumi gave voice to the sigh she had been holding in, and secured the straps of the holsters on her things. She should have just trained in the caves today...

The sound of feet splashing through the already-drenched streets won her attention. Someone else seeking refuge from the sudden storms?

Storms were always a difficult time for some of the Kyuumu as it meant it was a time of importance for the birds of the sky. Making sure every bird was in a shelter or protected so they wouldn't get fried by lightning or making sure nests were secure from the high winds. It was dangerous work, but generally, one the clan took pride in because frankly, it kept their relationship with the birds of the village quite positive. Plus their abilities to talk to them meant they also got good warnings on bad storms coming in before most other people did.[break][break] Today was one of those bad storms and while it wouldn't be that bad for people the birds had to find shelters to protect themselves quickly. One of these birds was a new mother and father pair who had to abandon their nest for safety reasons. It was an unstable location for them and while it could keep the eggs they had safe during normal weather the incoming storm was another thing. So they would ask for help and Takame having a soft spot for any bird would tell them to go find shelter back at the compound and he would take care of their nest.[break][break] So that's why he was running in the rain back home. His jacket was not on his own body, but covering the poor nest keeping it warm so the poor eggs wouldn't get too cold. Yet he was also getting cold from the rain as without his jacket on he was wearing a sleeveless T-shirt only. So finding an alcove to hide in he would go to the dry hiding spot not even noticing it being occupied by another. Mitsumi started at the young man invading her shelter from the storm, especially since it seemed she hadn't been seen at all. The young man didn't have an umbrella either, but the more curious thing was that he was carrying a jacket, and not wearing it. And... speaking to it?

People enjoyed their privacy, but Mitsumi peered over at what he was carrying. A balled up jacket, a clear attempt to cover from the rain, and to keep it warm and dry. An injured animal, perhaps? Her heart ached with sympathy, and, despite herself she found herself speaking up.
"U-um... my family's restaurant's not too far. I-If you want someplace warm." Her voice faltered, but the offer was genuine. She couldn't just sit idly by while an animal - or something - suffer. Helping out the young man would be a good bonus.

Considering how small the village was, she probably should have known his name or face, but she knew few people outside the Academy as it was. Hopefully he didn't know her by reputation. Nerves started to plague her, and she tugged at and smoothed out her damp hair, shifting weight from foot to foot. He was...

Mitsumi found herself staring, and reddened, turning away, pretending to be looking for a break in the storm.

Takame felt conflicted about this whole situation especially since on one side he was removing a nest from its location meaning the parents would return to a missing nest, but on the other hand saving the babies from possible destruction just because of a little wind and rain seemed like a good cause. So hopefully once the storm ended he would be able to replace the nest for the parents, but if they didn't return he would need to find a new home for the eggs. Probably a sanctuary back at the compound for wayward birds they had. If all else fails he could take care of them himself, but that was a huge responsibility and with what Takame was going to be doing soon it probably wasn't the best idea for him to take on the extra responsibility.[break][break] he wouldn't get to stick to his inner monologue for very long when he would be brought back to reality by the words of another. "Huh? ****!" Takame would say in exclamation not even noticing he was occupying the same space as another person. He was so lost in the thought of keeping the nest safe it didn't register in his mind there was another person here. Taking a moment to fully register what she had said he would add, "Yeah warm." It would be better to get out of the rain and if it meant making sure the nest was safe he was just about to work with a stranger. Looking decidedly at the girl he would say, "Lead the way."
