After briefly discussing Mitsumi's motivations for becoming a shinobi, the training began. What nominally appeared to be simple endurance training - having Mitsumi run one hundred laps around the Academy grounds - was truly a lesson in breaking through Mitsumi's mental blocks and limits, and just how hard she will have to work to achieve her goals.

A chance encounter with a wanderer convalescing in Kumogakure no Sato, one Muramasa Uemon, leads to her receiving guidance and instreuction in the art. With great effort she is able to detect Uemon using sensory ninjutsu, allowing her to scratch the surface of the technique, allowing her a foothold for further development.

After establishing the massive gulf in approach, skill, and ability between them, Tetsumaki approaches Mitsumi with an opportunity - a possibility to be adopted into the Tetsumaki clan, after being taken under Tetsumaki Shirai's wing.

The problem is not the requirement for the careful regulation of chakra, or even the difficulty of the technique, really, but a mental block, causing her to subconsciously foul her transformations. With some support from her kid brother, she resolves to face herself, quite literally, and brute-force a mental workaround through extended practice, and accepting a more accurate mental image of herself.

She also observed how Uemon was able to detect her presence apparently without focusing. After meeting - and apologizing - Mitsumi receives some guidance on how to use her sensory ability passively, before the pair depart from each other, possibly permamently.
