As the other youth laughed, Shigeo's head tilted a bit. If someone had messed his name up, he supposed he wouldn't be too upset about it, either. This guy was more emotive than he would have been about it, though.
"Zura, then," he blinked once.
"I'll try to remember that."He watched as the other Shinobi reached for something, and instinctively, he flicked the holster where his kunai rested. Spinning the ninja tool out and into a reversed grip, he deftly threaded a small length of wire from one of his reels through the circular head with a vague flick of his thumb. Most people would just see it as taking up a defensive stance, since he ended up in the most rudimentary ready position. If someone could see chakra, they would have noticed Shigeo guiding the wire into a quick knot.
Shigeo brought his arm out to the side, then made a quick arc, snapping the appendage from one side of his body to the other. The wire quickly unraveled as the other Genin secured a gas mask around his face. Shigeo's eyebrows knitted together, uncertain of what kind of weapon or device that had just been employed, but he elected to learn through experience, rather than asking questions.
Zura leapt backward, quickly sending a shuriken flying toward Shigeo, who responded by letting the Kunai loose. His fingers trailed along the wire as he gave chase, ducking the weapon that the other youth had chucked in his direction. That was when he saw it; another shuriken in the shadow of the first, albeit moving much faster. Shigeo clenched his fist suddenly, tightening his grip around the now elongated strand of wire, sending the kunai spinning in a controlled circle out to his side.
The two shuriken converged in a blast of metal, exploding in a way that under most normal circumstances, the weapons would not. It was clearly some kind of jutsu that utilized Ninja tools. Even if he wanted to, he couldn't fully dodge the resultant shrapnel; and he didn't. Shigeo didn't try to.
Shards of metal lodged in his back and his side, prompting blood to spew forth from the impact. Several chunks of metal ripped at the bandages covering his torso, revealing already hideously wounded flesh beneath. Badly healed wounds, some sutures where he'd tried to close up nastier lacerations were made visible as the other Genin's attack did a great deal more than he probably had intended for it to.
The pain happened so quickly that he barely registered it. Rather, he was already used to pain, so maybe the way his nerves processed it was... screwed up. It was just another obstacle, something he'd deal with whenever he couldn't put off dealing with it anymore. It didn't seem to slow him down at all.
Then, he threw the kunai.
Shigeo aimed for Zura's face- first, to prompt a response, second, to get an idea of what the mask was all about, and third, to set up for what came next...

Incredible Endurance: Working himself to the end of his wits has taken not only a toll on Shigeo's mind, but his body as well. Fit, perhaps impressively so, his body has become used to pain and the rigors of intense training. Unfortunately, he does not heal quickly, and so has fallen back on bandages to protect himself from infection and help curb bleeding from (almost exclusively) self-inflicted wounds.
