Takigakure was perhaps one of the most cautious of the Shinobi villages. Not only was it hidden away within the myriad basins that flecked the surface of Bonchi no Kuni, sheltered from the sky by mist and the branches of the great tree, and accessible only by way of tunnels and waterways obfuscated by a massive Waterfall; but they took measures to build an entire replica some distance away that they kept stocked with fully fledged Shinobi. It always fascinated Shigeo when he visited the false village, because the implication was that someone in the upper echelon of their society had been- or still was- incredibly paranoid.  He had already done a mission that took him to one of the many Areas designated by the Daimyo for military defense of the country and seen how closely even the contractors worked with the government to tirelessly keep watch and report even the smallest fluctuation from "normal."

In conjunction with those thoughts were those of his fellow Shinobi. He noticed during his academy days that the people of Taki were fiercely to themselves, perhaps not proud, but secretive. The two Netsu Clan Genin he had worked with were mostly untalkative during his first mission, save for a few word by the female cousin. Then there was Kaoru, the other weapon's Ninja he had met briefly during a storm in the main village. Diversity was important for Shinobi- many different skills cultivated a stronger, more rounded force for deployment. What he wondered was more about camaraderie. Did they all keep to themselves, treating their position more like a rank and file soldier? Was that what it meant to be Shinobi, or was there more to it?

His eyebrows knitted together as he recalled his father's sharp words when he graduated the Academy. Congratulations, son. You did it. You proved that you could do it. Shigeo unraveled the bandages around his hand, tightened them a bit, and began to re-wrap them intently. Haven't you done enough? You put everything into proving that anyone could be a Ninja, even someone not born into one of the Clans. You put in so much time that you weren't there when your mother died. You missed out on your childhood. Hasn't the Path of the Ninja taken enough from you already? Don't you see that you didn't need this?

Tying off the bandage to keep it in place, Shigeo sighed. The fights became more frequent after his first mission. It was so intense that he avoided home until well after dark, when his father retired to bed. It made him acutely aware of his fatigue, and the irritability that came with it. Reaching into his pocket, the Genin pulled out his watch and checked the time to be sure he hadn't missed the rendezvous. Another Ninja from Takigakure- a Genin as well- had agreed to meet him here an hour before sunset. It was just enough time for a sparring session, another chance to see the skills of his peers and learn from them, and improve.

There were still a few minutes to spare.

The sun dipped lower in the sky, a few hours past its apex. The sun beat down harder here than it did in the village itself due to the lack of true cover from above, which made the heat a touch more intense. It was still bearable, given that it was a cooler day than normal. The rain had stopped a half hour or so before, and the temperature had yet to recover. It probably wouldn't before nightfall. The ground was damp, but most of the standing water had already been reabsorbed into the air.

Zura's stroll through the streets of fake Takigakure was anything but hurried, his gaze occasionally drifting upwards towards the sky above the fake village. The recent rainfall had left the roads slick, while the air hung so thick with humidity that it felt like his clothes were a second skin. His destination was one of the village's numerous training grounds, this time for a rendezvous with a Saigo Shigeo for a sparring match. Zura carried a general disinterest in the typical shinobi errands, with their blandness and lack of real bite. But relished the dust and grit of the training fields. Here, beyond the monotony of routine missions, he could truly test his mettle, push his boundaries, and revel in the raw thrill of combat. [break][break]

Arriving fashionably—or perhaps characteristically—late by a good half hour, Zura was indifferent to the delay. Time didn’t matter to Zura, a fact that the village, for better or worse, had come to accept. And surely, this Saigo Shigeo would get the memo soon enough.[break][break]

With night creeping in, the training grounds were practically deserted, just how Zura liked it. No crowd meant no awkward searching for whoever he was meant to meet. Spotting a figure swathed in bandages from head to toe, Zura knew he’d found his match.[break][break]

"Shigeo?" he called out, his voice carrying easily in the quiet, accompanied by a nonchalant wave as he sauntered towards the bandaged man.[break][break]

Everything about his surroundings mirrored the way he'd grown up. It was odd to see each house, so eerily similar to the ones he passed every day on the way home, stocked with unfamiliar faces. Everything was emulated down to a science, even the routine at twilight. The changing of the guard, the way that the scent of freshly steamed gyoza wafted off a nearby ramen stand, even the children hurrying home to avoid being scolded. As tiny feet tattered past him, the Genin heard his name called out from somewhere behind him.

With a glance back over his shoulder, Shigeo regarded his tardy training partner with a critical eye. Lateness among Shinobi was often caused by problems or complications. Threats of danger that were potentially life ending- not followed by a brisk and leisurely stroll that lacked any sense of urgency. It took all kinds, he supposed- it wasn't like he knew the other guy enough to give him an earful.

As Zura approached, Shigeo turned on his heel and stiffly raised a hand in greeting. "Yeah," he confirmed his identity for the newcomer. "And you're... the Oborozuki kid." He glanced sideways, attempting to recall the other youth's given name. The Clans held prestige in Takigakure, but it was a family thing, not really an individual one. Shigeo didn't know any of them by name, at least not personally.

Then, he thought he remembered.

"Eh, Sora, right?"

"Close enough," Zura chuckled, his laughter filling the space between them. "Name's Zura." [break][break]

Shigeo's demeanour was a mix of stiffness and awkwardness, a combination that Zura found amusing. But, Zura knew better than to underestimate a fellow shinobi based on first impressions alone. The mystery of what lay beneath all those bandages sparked Zura's curiosity, setting his mind racing with possibilities. What was he hiding under there?[break][break]

"Might as well cut to the chase, eh?” Zura decided to dive straight into the heart of their meetup. Zura unveiled Oki Ini, his skull-shaped gas mask. As he secured the beige mask over his face, he felt a rush of confidence. Zura imagined it gave him a touch of menace.[break][break]

With a swift leap back, Zura put some ground between them, eyeing Shigeo with a readiness that bordered on eagerness. Once they were adequately spaced, he gave an exaggerated nod, the sign they were good to go.[break][break]

Kicking things off with a basic but calculated move, Zura pulled out a pair of shuriken. He wasn't just testing Shigeo's reflexes; he was gauging his combat style. The first shuriken sliced through the air, closely followed by the second, this one pulsing with chakra and thrown with a deliberate force. The two stars collided erupting into a burst of shrapnel a mere meter from Shigeo.

OWNER: Oboerozuki Zura[break]

RANK: B[break]

CLASSIFICATION: Supplementary | Offensive[break]

ELEMENT: Futton | Boil Release[break]

RESTRICTIONS: Oborozuki Zura[break]

DESCRIPTION:[break]
Oni Iki is a full-face gas mask. The mask is shaped like a human skull with its jaw open, it is a brown-ish cream colour. Two large black filters jut out of the jaws of the mask, and the breathing valve is placed in the mouth of the skull and coloured to blend in. The mask's filters are weak and can only filter out smoke at best.[break][break]

ABILITIES:[break]
Shi Onsen | Reactive [break][break]

Oni Iki channels futton chakra through its filters, causing it to bellow acid mist. The mist which is expelled from the right filter is cotton candy pink while the left side is a sickly turqoise. If kept active, Oni Iki will create a dense mist which veils Zura (10m radius). The acidity of the mist is potent enough to cause 2nd degree burns with brief exposure. If one stays within in the mist for longer than 1 post their burns will begin to eat away at their flesh. This will also degrade any organic materials, and after 2 - 3 rotations, the acid will begin to rust and destroy metallic items.[break][break]

Density Amplification[break][break]

When preforming any technique which creates acid mist, it can be channelled through the mask. Oni Kiri will supplement the acid which is released. This does not effect the acidity, but instead will allow the mist to linger longer. It adds 2 posts to a technique. [break][break]

NAME: Hoshi no Houkai [Crumbling Star][break]
RANK: D[break]
CHAKRA USAGE: Very Low[break]
CLASSIFICATION: Bukijutsu[break]
ELEMENT: -[break]
HANDSEALS: 0[break]
REQUIREMENT: Shuriken[break]
DESCRIPTION:[break]
Two shuriken are launched at the opponent, with a small interval between both. The second shuriken, however, gets to be infused with chakra, and has to be thrown with greater speed and force. Upon reaching the target's vicinity, the two shuriken clash and chakra is released, causing both to shatter, sending small bits of sharp metal shrapnel covering 2 square meters in radius.

As the other youth laughed, Shigeo's head tilted a bit. If someone had messed his name up, he supposed he wouldn't be too upset about it, either. This guy was more emotive than he would have been about it, though. "Zura, then," he blinked once. "I'll try to remember that."

He watched as the other Shinobi reached for something, and instinctively, he flicked the holster where his kunai rested. Spinning the ninja tool out and into a reversed grip, he deftly threaded a small length of wire from one of his reels through the circular head with a vague flick of his thumb. Most people would just see it as taking up a defensive stance, since he ended up in the most rudimentary ready position. If someone could see chakra, they would have noticed Shigeo guiding the wire into a quick knot.

Shigeo brought his arm out to the side, then made a quick arc, snapping the appendage from one side of his body to the other. The wire quickly unraveled as the other Genin secured a gas mask around his face. Shigeo's eyebrows knitted together, uncertain of what kind of weapon or device that had just been employed, but he elected to learn through experience, rather than asking questions.

Zura leapt backward, quickly sending a shuriken flying toward Shigeo, who responded by letting the Kunai loose. His fingers trailed along the wire as he gave chase, ducking the weapon that the other youth had chucked in his direction. That was when he saw it; another shuriken in the shadow of the first, albeit moving much faster. Shigeo clenched his fist suddenly, tightening his grip around the now elongated strand of wire, sending the kunai spinning in a controlled circle out to his side.

The two shuriken converged in a blast of metal, exploding in a way that under most normal circumstances, the weapons would not. It was clearly some kind of jutsu that utilized Ninja tools. Even if he wanted to, he couldn't fully dodge the resultant shrapnel; and he didn't. Shigeo didn't try to.

Shards of metal lodged in his back and his side, prompting blood to spew forth from the impact. Several chunks of metal ripped at the bandages covering his torso, revealing already hideously wounded flesh beneath. Badly healed wounds, some sutures where he'd tried to close up nastier lacerations were made visible as the other Genin's attack did a great deal more than he probably had intended for it to.

The pain happened so quickly that he barely registered it. Rather, he was already used to pain, so maybe the way his nerves processed it was... screwed up. It was just another obstacle, something he'd deal with whenever he couldn't put off dealing with it anymore. It didn't seem to slow him down at all.

Then, he threw the kunai.

Shigeo aimed for Zura's face- first, to prompt a response, second, to get an idea of what the mask was all about, and third, to set up for what came next...

1 | Kunai used
1 | Wire String Reel used

Incredible Endurance: Working himself to the end of his wits has taken not only a toll on Shigeo's mind, but his body as well. Fit, perhaps impressively so, his body has become used to pain and the rigors of intense training. Unfortunately, he does not heal quickly, and so has fallen back on bandages to protect himself from infection and help curb bleeding from (almost exclusively) self-inflicted wounds.

Zura's smirk widened as Shigeo failed to dodge the second shuriken, the resulting explosion sending shrapnel tearing through his bandages and into his back. The tattered wraps revealed the not-so-pretty sight of wounds that were healing but far from healed. It seemed Shigeo had a certain stubbornness about him, perhaps a distrust of medical ninja, refusing to let someone neatly knit him back up. [break][break]

Shigeo responded by going straight for the offensive, seemingly undeterred by the pain, launching a kunai with a flash of wire trailing behind it. With a swift leap to the side, he kept the distance between them, Shigeo looked like a man you wouldn’t want within arm’s reach. Mid-leap, Zura pumped chakra into Oki Ini, bringing the gas mask to life. A colourful, acidic mist began to spew forth, one side a vivid pink and the other a poisonous turquoise, filling the area in an acidic shroud.[break][break]

The fuuton mist thickened into a vibrant haze, a clear sign that should deter Shigeo from coming too close. At least if he fancied his skin the way it is. Zura reached into his utility pouch, drawing out a handful of hajikeru okashi—small, mischievous spheres ready to pop. He flung seven of them towards Shigeo. [break][break]

With a swift hand seal, Zura detonated the hajikeru okashi. The air was torn by a series of tiny blasts, peppering the vicinity around Shigeo with another wave of shrapnel.

The first thing he learned was that his opponent was quick on his feet. Rather than taking a direct hit to the strange mask, the other Shinobi quickly shuffled out of the way. Shigeo stepped with his left foot behind his right, turning his body with the rotation of the wire. The movement allowed for the kunai to spin in a tight and controlled orbital motion around his body, even after its initial approach had been denied.

Second, the true nature of the mask became apparent. Strange dual-colored... steam? roiled out from the boy's face. Some kind of smokescreen, perhaps? He hadn't come close enough to tell whether it was something he should be breathing or not, though Zura did not seem to have any problems. It was hard to imagine that the device protected him while also pumping out poison into the air.

The kunai snaked around low this time, shooting around Zura in an arc. Shigeo tugged at the wire, intending to send the length of the wire coiling around the youth's legs. With the strange colored mist obscuring both of their vision, he doubted that it would be anticipated.

The strange balls of metal cracked as Zura effected a handseal. Suddenly, the seemingly easily avoided attack became a wall of sharp bullets, scattering in every direction and making them difficult to respond to. In that moment, he remembered something. Bending at the knees, he dipped the core of his body downward, poised to jump. Chakra forming in the balls of his feet, instead of using Kinobori to cling to a wall or a tree, he sent a flash of the energy he compounded there out explosively as he leapt upward, roughly in the direction of Zura.

This movement allowed him to evade the better part of the cloud of metallic death, though a handful of the mass still grazed him and cut flesh. It was much less severe than the first, more unexpected shuriken attack. It also offered an opening for something more devious.

Ideally by this point, the wire would have spun and snared the other Genin, sending him sprawling to the ground.

SA: Enhanced Chakra Control: What began as a requisite to his entry into the Academy quickly became perhaps Shigeo's greatest asset. With unimpressive chakra reserves, the ability to strictly control the flow and amount of Chakra he implements makes his jutsu more precise and considerably less wasteful.

The popping candies detonated in a display nothing short of awesome, painting the battlefield in a spectacle of shrapnel. Shigeo, with a burst of agility, vaulted sky-high, dodging the bulk of the flying shrapnel. Zura, caught up in admiring his own handiwork, was jolted back to reality when he felt a sharp yank at his leg. [break][break]

Glancing down, he spied the wire coiled around his calf, its grip tightening. A curse slipped through his lips. His pants were the only thing preventing the wire from carving into his skin. But no sooner than he had spotted the wire did Shigeo yank hard on the wire, flipping Zura off his feet and onto the ground with a thud, landing on his ass.[break][break]

Scrambling for a kunai, Zura was about to cut himself free when he caught sight of Shigeo hurtling towards him. Dodging on instinct, Zura rolled to safety, protected by his candy-coloured acidic mist. Poor Shigeo was about to get a harsh lesson in why tangling with an Oborozuki up close was a bad idea—the mist set to work immediately, nibbling at his bandages and skin alike.[break][break]

After his swift evasion, Zura sliced through the wire, freeing himself. Rising to his feet, he flicked through three hand seals, and the acidic vapour swirling around him took shape, crafting a replica of Zura poised for attack.[break][break]

Rubbing his backside, Zura couldn't help but chide himself for the slip-up. "Should've kept an eye on that wire," he remarked, rubbing his backside with a half-grin. Shigeo would soon discover the clone's incorporeal nature, any attempt to strike it finding nothing but air and a harsh welcome from the condense fuuton within it.

HANDSEALS: 3[break]
DESCRIPTION:[break]
Using Boil Release, the caster creates a clone of themselves made entirely of acidic vapor. The clone acts independently of the caster, but is not able to utilize its own jutsu. They are made entirely of the acidic vapor, but appear just like any regular, physical clone. However, because it is made of acidic vapor, if the opponent does make contact it can cause severe pain and burns or blisters. Because they are essentially just gas, they can only be hit with elemental or chakra-enhanced attacks like ninjutsu or enhanced ninja tools, but cannot physically hit their target either. Upon the caster releasing the jutsu or upon death of the clone, it will disperse into a cloud of boiling acidic steam that can cause severe pain, burns and blistered skin. The steam from the dispersed clone hit anything within three feet.

The sensation was something like a spider feeling out its web for subtle fluctuations. When the impact of the other Genin hitting the ground sent tremors along the wire, Shigeo flicked the pulley on the line and started the process of reeling it back in. There were several moments before it went taut, and he could not see what was going on. Immediately thereafter, it slacked. The wire started to quickly slither across the ground, out of the mist, and back. He noticed the distinct lack of kunai, coupled with the obvious fraying from Zura cutting himself loose; but as the wire grew closer, he started to see more insidious damage.

He continued along his approach vector for a moment longer as he assessed. The wire appeared to be chewed away in multiple places, with the most grievous damage near where the cut had happened. The filaments had fused together, as if melted. He let the reel snap back into place, not wanting to touch it with his hands. Carefully, he gripped the device between two fingers, turned sharply, and chucked the tool approximately onto the roof of one of the many nearby homes.

In the next moment, with his back to the mist, he formed the five handseals needed to perform Kawarimi no Jutsu, and within seconds, the reel he had previously thrown clattered to the dirt uselessly.

He needed more space to better assess the situation, but also, for safety from the strange acidic mist that he had very little insight into. The way that it had fallen from the other youth's strange mask led Shigeo to expect that it was more dense, like fog, and therefore clung low to the ground. If that was indeed the case, a higher ground might give him the opportunity to actually see his opponent.

And so, he stayed low and watched, waited for an opening. As he did this, he began to pluck the smaller pieces of shrapnel from his wounds, as the larger ones might leave a bloodier trail for his opponent to follow.

Shigeo, in a smart move, bolted from the creeping curtain of acidic mist Zura’s mask constantly emitted—a dangerous swirling of the signature green and pink around him. Using the body replacement technique, Shigeo nimbly avoided becoming a casualty of the corrosive cloud, reappearing a few meters clear of the danger zone. It was a universal truth by now: when facing an Oborozuki like Zura, you kept your distance, especially when Zura was in his element, literally. [break][break]

Yet the distance Shigeo had just created was only an invitation to get creative. His boil clone, an acid-filled doppelganger, surged out of the mist, keeping chase. The clone lunged toward Shigeo with fists ready to connect, but would phase completely through him. The aftermath would be a mix of searing pain and sizzling fabric as the clone’s incorporeal existence was meant to smother its opponent in acid. Only ninjutsu could stop the clone’s pursuit.
[break][break]
If his opponent did not want to attempt getting up close and personal with Zura, he would bring himself to them. At least, a more dangerous version of himself. Shigeo looked like he’d be formidable in close combat, so his clone could try and fight him instead. Shigeo would find it impossible to defeat the clone without a significant chakra-enhanced attack.[break][break]

The distance he created was a small assurance. He had very limited visibility on the ground due to Zura's toxic mist. He needed to mitigate some level of that advantage, and so, he took to high elevation. That also meant that to give chase, Zura would have to give up some measure of his advantage by chasing.

In the time it took to make a decision, Shigeo palmed three shuriken and fanned then out between his knuckles. Pouring Chakra into them, he took a deep breath. When the other man appeared out of the multicolored cloud, he started to backpedal. Zura dove directly at him like a snarling beast- at least, the mask seemed to make him come off that way- and Shigeo loosed the volley of three Ninja tools infused with his chakra at what he did not know was a Clone.

Given that he had chosen a direct approach, Zura was running directly into the line of fire. Added to that, his Clone was moving from a blind spot- below the roof- which meant he very likely did not catch Shigeo's subtle movement to arm himself. With those factors in his favor, the younger Genin hoped that his attack would poke a few holes in the other Ninja.

Or something.

Shigeo wasn't just stepping back; he was aiming for the sky, putting both ground and air between him and Zura. But Zura’s clone, relentless as ever, wasn’t about to give him any breathing room. It seemed no matter where Shigeo went, the clone was hot on his heels. Zura, meanwhile, was all in for pushing his limits, ready to burn through his chakra if it meant beefing up his reserves. If Shigeo wasn't going to push him to the edge, Zura figured he might as well do it himself. [break][break]

While Shigeo tangled with the first clone, Zura got busy with another set of hand seals, conjuring up a second acidic double. The effort was starting to gnaw at him, a not-so-gentle reminder that he was straining his limits. Not exactly a walk in the park, but Zura was betting on the long game.[break][break]

Shigeo's shuriken might as well have been shooting stars for all the impact they had on Zura’s clone, passing through without a hitch. Undeterred, the clone pressed on, eager to tag Shigeo with a corrosive fist. And just as Shigeo dealt with one, another clone burst from the mist, doubling the trouble headed his way.[break][break]

Breathing deep, Zura felt the pull of his chakra dwindling, Oki Ini's steady consumption adding to the strain. Yet, he stood ready to keep the pressure on as long as his chakra would hold out.[break][break]

When his kunai did not miss their mark, he expected a much bloodier display than the one he got. Instead, the weapons failed to lodge themselves in anything, disappearing into the apparent image of his opponent. A Clone.

The Clone continued toward him, relentless. Shigeo tore another kunai from his hip and threaded it again, dipping into his chakra to quickly tie off another wire, and started to give himself some slack. If he couldn't do anything to the image of Zura, then he had to improvise. Small uses of Chakra, steady movement, and endurance. The way that the other youth was using his ninjutsu, there had to be a hard limit to how long he could go. If Shigeo played the long game...

Well, it was his best chance at doing anything. If he got close, that strange multicolored mist would eat him alive. If he stopped moving, the clone would manage to make contact, and there was no telling what kind of nasty surprise that entailed.

Just as quickly, there was another Clone nipping at his heels. Again, Shigeo had to improvise. Adjust his strategy, change his tempo. He tossed the kunai in his hand toward another house, and when the wire went taut, he swung himself around the building, coming to a landing with a roll. The blinding pain of shrapnel pressing into his flesh caused him to let out a silent gasp, but he continued to move. He didn't have the luxury of stopping. With a yank, he tugged the kunai free, swinging the wire around to bring the Ninja tool back to his hand.

Watching his clones chase Shigeo in a twisted game of tag, Zura couldn't help but crack a wry smile. Shigeo had learned that direct engagement with Zura's clones was a fast track to nowhere. As Shigeo wisely shifted tactics, favouring evasion over confrontation, Zura felt the familiar tug of chakra depletion. Despite the strain, he was committed to pushing himself to the limit, embracing the edge of exhaustion with open arms. [break][break]

Oki Ini's potent breath was useless if Shigeo didn’t decide to close the distance, yet Zura wasn't about to throw in the towel. His breathing grew heavier with each clone pumped out, exhaustion drew closer than he anticipated. Watching Shigeo dodge and weave, Zura wondered what the guy benefitted from their spar, aside from an advanced lesson in the art of the retreat. The battlefield he created, wrapped in acidic mist, was a no-man's land for anyone lacking a long-range game. Perhaps, Zura thought, a future spar could do without Oki Ini, offering a more levelled challenge for them both.[break][break]

Drawing on the dregs of his chakra, Zura wasn't ready to call it quits. Recognizing the futility of his futton techniques from this distance, he reached for a different approach. Fingers deftly wrapping around two shuriken, he sent them slicing through the air towards Shigeo. One, infused with a burst of chakra, was a ticking time bomb, primed to explode both into a dazzling display of shrapnel.
