Those who watched Noro would be hard-pressed to find the young lady acting rashly, in any situation. She was raised in a slower environment, with less stimulus, everything she undertakes she takes care with, wanting to do right the part of herself she puts into anything, even as menial as chores.

To her, the academy techniques were no chore as it would be to those raised in a shinobi nation. There had been tales of shamans, sorcerers and sages from her tribe, who's most impressive acts paled in comparison to the arts she was undertaking.

Kakuremino no Jutsu. A mind boggling feat that is considered fundamental. A year ago this would've seemed impossible. Yet today, it seemed very much achievable.

A hum buzzed in the air, narrow circuitry of flowing chakra surged and waned. The rhythm, the shape, the relative amounts of chakra here compared to there, they all mattered. With enough output one could brute force this process.

Attempting something like that pained Noro, an ache like none she had ever felt, unbeknownst to her, she was incredibly sensitive to carving paths her body did not wish for her to follow.

The first steps were always abstract, for now what she doing could be considered no more an exercise, it'd take a keen eye to recognise how this could lead to the implementation of Kakuremino no Jutsu.

This was the first component of several that were required for a fluid and practical use of the jutsu, using a sheet that connects the internal flow of chakra.

The difference between a plain blanket, made of some poorly processed wool, and the innards of Noro was night and day. Her chakra receptors and pathways were delicate but highly responsive, you could thread a gentle flow through and still echoes of power would ring out.

The blanket however, was unguided, broad, aimless, inert. It was like shouting into a wide empty room that never echoed. No matter how much chakra she indiscriminately flooded in, the circuit would not connect.

She sat alone, in her room, a quiet and narrow space, void of personality. Her legs crossed, a meditative position, her hands joined by the blanket rather than flesh.

A flaw in my approach. The internal whisper was not one of frustration, but of disappointment. A pride she took was her ability to think out things before they happened,

Rather than pounding her chest and flexing how large a chakra battery she was, she took a different approach. One focused zap of chakra, at one given angle. If it does not reach her other hand, then twist the angle slightly and try again. Use less chakra for a greater response.

A deep breath. On the outside, nothing happened. Internally, the first beam of chakra had been fired in the dark, and a response had not yet been felt. Her nose must stay upon the grindstone if she wishes to see progress.

Inhale. A focused, coiled bolt of chakra flung across the blanket connecting Noro's hands, again a whiff. A valuable lesson Noro had derived was that while anything could be solved with enough planning, enough thinking. Sometimes action was a better way to handle things.

This was a fine balancing act however, if she had followed her previous approach of broad waves of chakra, like ripples of water, ringing out across the blanket, it'd never make it from one hand to another.

It needed velocity and direction to cut through the inert and stubborn lack of receptiveness from the blanket, a stark contrast from what flowed within her.

Repetition. The learning of this jutsu doubled as practice on forming chakra as equally as possible, recreating each bolt as identical as she could to the last. Each one she let off she noted how it was different from those previous, and she finely smoothed out the differences from glaring down to nigh on imperceptible.

The sensation of dry lips did not register to Noro, or how had it had gotten late and her open window no longer let in a sweet breeze, but a fierce and biting cold. Immersion had her set deep upon her task, she was beyond her years in many ways, but her ego was still something that needed work.

She could not stop when the objective had not been met. Slightly down and more to the left. A mental note of where to aim next, in an attempt to connect her two hands through the piece of cloth. The inert and inanimate nature of the cloth made it a perfect subject for the jutsu.

The very things that made her internal systems perfect for moulding chakra meant they were the exact opposite of something suitable for applying fundamental concepts to create the illusion of invisibility. Is it easier to control the voltage of a dead battery or a live one?

Her musings were cut short by the sensation of success. Her right hand had been letting off the shots in the dark, and her left had finally felt feedback. She clung to this sensation, another shot, another beam, another coil of chakra across the blanket. Each time the sensation of chakra feedback in her left hand, that originated from her right, and travelled through the blanket, grew stronger.

Even alone, her trained behaviours of not reflecting how fulfilling the little steps were showed. She kept a solemn expression, a hunger for more roared in her diaphragm.

An exhale heavier than those before left her mouth. She stood, scantily clad, just some cloth shieled her from the night's cold. She closed her window and drank from a jug upon her floor. There was a bed, a bed side table and that was it. Her clothes, anything in her name (however little), laid upon the floor.

Being in a place that could withstand the ebb and flow of nature was already more than enough for her, a luxury that she simultaneously grew wary of but appreciated.

What were the next steps now that she knew the basics of using this blanket as a medium? Practicing the chakra pattern that allowed the blanket to turn invisible would reproduce nothing similar if she did it internally.

To break down the problem further would be difficulty, it seemed like a lot of the moving pieces in this jutsu were contingent on each other to succeed and reproducing them in a vacuum was nigh on impossible.

She laid on the floor, wooden and cold, staring at the ceiling, the blanket in her hands. Idly she recreated the connection between her two hands she had stumbled upon moments ago.

Is one hand to be a receiver and the other a producer of chakra? Should they be two forces producing and their reaction to one another creates the phenomenon I'm looking for?

An internal dialogue rattled on inside Noro's mind, as her hands worked independently. She began to hand the blanket taut above her face, it was only enough to cover her waist if she let it rest.

She looked at the visual feedback of chakra pinging across it, it was almost imperceptible. The tiny amount she used meant she could ramp up the velocity and assure it got across with ease.

This had the downside of narrowing the surface area where it could make contact and flow back into the hand opposite. Then, after a few minutes of thinking, occupying her hands by continuing the little practice regimen she had just developed, a flash of transparency washed over the blanket.

Positive and negative forces. Noro sat upright, back into a meditative position with her legs crossed and arms held out in front of her, the blanket joining her hands.

Whilst practicing the fundamental concept of using this blanket as a chakra delivery medium, she had turned it from one flowing piece of chakra, out the right hand, into the left, into something more.

She had fumbled her streams and let the left and right hand echo out chakra simultaneously. Where they had met and cancelled each other out, the blanket became see through.

This created a headache. The reason why it was only a small portion that successfully created the "invisibility" effect, was because there were not equal distributions of chakra across the entire blanket. The right hand's chakra should NOT meet the left. Rather the chakra they both send out should meet, in equal force.

This was a time where tiredness should be weighing down her eyelids and drawing her to her bed. But the fire within, the desire to pursue the end of this path, egged her on and kept drowsiness at bay.

Slowly, she began to tweak and adjust, no longer a small amount of chakra pinged across as a narrow and fluid beam, but ripples on the surface of water intersecting. A process that took much work yet to be refined.

The width and speed of a ripple of water depends on what point of contact caused the ripple in the first place, as well as the body of water's qualities. Drop a pebble into a pond will be the same as a boulder into a large spring.

This was Noro's frame of reference, using the metrics of nature, extrapolating them to natural circumstances, circumstances she had a hand in creating.

But that did not magically give her the answers to what exactly needed to be changed in order for the result to be ideal. If the right hand fired off a pebble and the left hand a boulder, the ripples would be uneven when they collide, thus not giving the right effect.

The timing, concentration of chakra and the direction had to be consistent between the two hand. While it didn't seem as if hand dominance shone through here, it just felt unnatural to use two points of chakra emitting. A broad blanket or a pinpoint beam were her two preferred methods.

This laid on a different spectrum entirely, one that she wasn't as familiar with.  Nevertheless, dwelling upon what was necessary and what had occurred so far gave her direction, and served to ward off the call of her bed in favour of developing an answer that satiated her.

Too narrow. Too hasty. Too unfocused. Repetition, repetition, repetition. Each iteration came with a flaw that Noro could critique. In the next iteration when trying to adjust to fix the issue she had noticed previously, this would cause a new issue to sprout.

A continuous act of juggling plates, a proverbial whack-a-mole. This gave no frustration, instead this allowed her to escape the narrow confines of her room and enter a limitless space, the inside of her mind. Being immersed in this was a form of escapism from the things that troubled her.

Rather than facing the things she must in order to integrate, drowning herself in the process of failing and getting back up eased her soul much more. None of these greater problems weighed down her mind, that was part of why she found it so easy to chase down the elusive steps of mastery on this foundational jutsu.

Her thoughts faded from conscious yet surgical analysis continued, in the waves of her subconscious. From the outside perspective, a spectator would've seen waves of translucence splash throughout the blanket, with each having varying levels of transparency. Some nigh on see-through, some barely noticeable that anything was happening.

A fleeting sensation, one that Noro chased and chased. She was getting oh so close to the desired outcome. She was on the precipice and she could tell. Failed attempts were being recognised before the outcome even arrived, the sensation alone was enough for her to understand how close she was.

Her fine tuned control was narrowing down the ranges more and more, the acceptable range of chakra amount, frequency and method of delivery. Thinking was becoming less and less necessary, intuition had taken the steering wheel a fair amount of time ago.

And then, as birds began to chirp in the night, it came. The first proper success. The blanket disappeared in her very hands. Once the wall had been overcame, it was easy to reach that point again.

The blanket disappeared in her hands repeatedly, then flashed back into vision. Many obstacles had been conquered by this point, but one remained. Sustaining.

The method she had approached the problem with did not immediately present a way to maintain the invisibility, only how to spark it. So after many reps, she paused, standing from her crossed leg stance. Sticking her head out the window to get hit by the fierce winds of twilight. She began to break down the problem.

Returning to her meditative position, cross-legged on the floor, a hum of chakra flowed from each hand into the blanket. A rhythm became apparent to Noro when she managed to successfully string together several ripples of chakra that gave the effect of prolonged invisibility, rather than a burst.

The answer came faster than usual, the foundations built from the session came to her aid during one of the most difficult problems and allowed her to find the answer. To actually implement it consistently was a different beast altogether.

Her breathing began to sync with the rate at which she flooded chakra into the blanket, giving herself an easy metric to measure up against. The inhale and exhale coincided with the pulses of chakra, giving the blanket a prolonged invisibility.

The relief of getting a firm grasp on the jutsu held Noro. A victory stretch ensued. She laid flat on the floor, her limbs contorting, a wave of tiredness suddenly washing over her. While she had not mastered the jutsu, she had a good enough grasp on it to use on demand by this point.

She slunk into bed, as the sun began to rise. What she had gained in knowledge and skill, she had sacrificed wellbeing for, a potentially worrying trend.
