Description:

One of the more used routes through the Land of Rivers by merchant going from the Land of wind to the land of fire and back for trading is also a known hotspot for bandit activity. In order to keep it safe and secured a joint team of shinobi have been sent along the route in order to clear from a recent bandit infestation that’s been actively harassing the travelers passing thought the route.

Miroru was early.



And that suited her just fine.



At the little town at the trailhead for the hotspot she'd decided to title as Bandit Boulevard, Miroru had made a point to arrive a day ahead of schedule. The little village was on the Suna side of the trail, and that meant she had to traverse the whole thing to meet up with the genin she was accompanying on this little joint assignment of theirs.



Now, mind, that wasn't in and of itself really a problem. She could turn into a bird, and had chakra stores for days, so flying across the trail without engaging bandits was easy- but she didn't feel like turning right back around and getting into the thick of it without a nap after. So she got there a day ahead of time so she could enjoy a nice meal with the locals, find someplace to sleep overnight, and be perky and ready to go when her genin partner arrived from Suna.



What she hadn't expected was to be lazing about on a rooftop catching some sun while she waited, and find herself catching sight of a Suna "head"band wrapped around some ojii-san's waist instead of someone her age. Or Uriko's age. Or Azarea's age. This guy was like a full-blown adult! Which was fine, and she didn't see as a problem.



Except the fact she was the ranking shinobi on this assignment.



Bracing herself, she clambered up and bounced down from the roof, inexplicably stepping down midair as if climbing down a set of stairs nobody could see, and scampered over to Ryouta as he approached, lifting a hand to wave.



"Hey there, O-"

"-oooouta," she adjusted, hoping her incredibly awkward fingerguns would be more interesting than realizing what she'd been about to say. "Ryouta-san. Iiiiiiiiiit's nice to meet you! I. am. Miroru. How are you? Today."

This mission was more battle-heavy than some of his more recent missions. Ryouta didn't mind this granted, but it was sometimes nice to not have missions that required a lot of fighting. At least this time he would be with someone who was of a higher rank than him so they would have to be competent enough to carry their weight around allowing Ryouta to slack a little bit. Heaven knows he would like that since getting his hands dirty could accidentally lead him to learn more about his opponents than he wanted to thanks to his clan's abilities. So hopefully this Miroru was to be someone who could handle their own.[break][break]

Cause of his rank the meeting spot would be slower to the Suna side of the land of rivers since she would need to escort him due to travel restrictions which sort of irked Ryouta since it made him feel slightly annoyed being as old as he was and still a genin. it wasn't like he was the only one though since his teammates were in the same boat, but it did remind him of his failures and that was always annoying to him. However, what was even more annoying was when he found whom he was working with. A bright-haired young girl would greet him rather awkwardly and Ryouta couldn't help but raise his eyebrow. She had to have been at least a decade younger than him and she was his senior. He couldn't help but sigh as he placed his hand on his face shaking his head.[break][break]

"I'm fine," Ryouta would say flatly to Miroru's question on how he was doing trying his best to hold in his disdain for their clear difference in age and rank. "I'm sorry about this Miroru-shi, but" Ryouta would say pausing as he looked up to the sky and let out a loud grunt of frustration. Once he calmed down he would look back at Miroru and continue, "Please excuse my rude behavior I'm not used to working with shinobi of higher rank than I who are younger." Ryouta would extend his gloved hand out as a form of friendship to try and bridge a gap between them so she would know he didn't mean anything bad about his annoyance.

Yeah... that's about the reaction, right there.

Miroru laughed awkwardly at the apology. "No, it's cool, I've, uh. Been getting that response for the last year or so. I'm used to it. And I was never one to stand on ceremony, anyway." She paused, and held up a finger. "Except when someone isn't WILLING to. THEN I'm a stickler because they're making it fun."

Her hand flicked out and shook his confidently, grinning up at him. "I have lots of older cousins that got really salty when I graduated at thirteen. Cuz... uh, some of them failed the same exam I aced." Oh, goodie, she didn't just pass the exams at thirteen, she ACED them. She seemed to realize what she'd just said, and waved her hands quickly as if to disperse the words she'd just said! "Wh-which is to say that they were grumpy I didn't fail too! Tokaku-chan's pretty much the only person I've had to try to pull rank on, everyone else has been super chill. No reason you can't be!"

She cleared her throat and tried desperately to redirect the conversation. "So- how about that hijacker highway? You wanna try to do a bit of hide and seek with the bandit camps, or attempt to draw them out with the appearance of a wealthy merchant passing through?"

"Just don't give up on me! We can figure this out!"

Ryouta honestly was impressed by the young girl's maturity and even more so when she said she aced the exams. Though when she doubled back and apologized about pulling rank on people he couldn't help but chuckle slightly. "Nah don't worry about it," Ryouta would say waving the air in front of him, "It's not like I have competed in the exams anyways so I wouldn't know what it's like." This was a little backstory of himself having despite his age never actually competed in the exams especially since his training required him to be isolated from people for quite some time. He might not ever compete if he was honest just because his condition made those types of events a bit difficult to deal with.[break][break]

However, the conversation would swiftly shift gears to the bandits they would be dealing with with two ideas from Miroru that both had their merits so he was willing to work with both. He did have a preference though and said, "Let's try the merchant thing might I request to be the merchant?" Ryouta would gesture to himself before adding, "I'm not built for direct combat that much and tend to be more on the evasive side of things or even intelligence gathering so having you be the muscle might work best for us."

"Eh? What do you mean?" Miroru tilted her head, sincerely confused. "How do you get promoted without taking the exams? That's like the whole point."

Someone clearly hasn't ever been told you can promote through other methods.

"Oh, sure! If you wanna! I'm super comfy filling whatever role you're not great at. It's kinda my thing~ I'm not the best at any one thing, but I'm great at lots of things, so mostly I just find what people are bad at and either back them up or take'em on where they're weak!"

"We can totally do that. Probably best to use Henge to present the appearance of being wealthy and loaded with goods. Don't be too obvious about it- we haven't got a cart or anything, but if you look like you tried- and failed- to not look like you have anything expensive, that'll be the best approach, I think. I could Henge into a mule with some heavy packs, too. Or have a clone do it and stay back a bit so as to avoid us getting surrounded. Either way, I'm happy to be the bruiser, here!"

"Wait what?" Ryouta asked in confusion. Where did that question come from? She must have misunderstood what he meant so he paused for a second before restating, "I mean I hadn't even taken the exams so it's not like I even had the chance to compete for promotion." It was a bit of a backstory of his life having to deal with his clan's ability that sort of put him out of commission for quite some time which is why he was so old as a genin so he never experienced the ordeal that was the Chunin Exams anyways.[break][break]

"As for a disguise," Ryouta said before grabbing into his bag and pulling out a pseudo-flashy top he had. "Would this work?" the top was white with blue accents that sparkled a bit. It was normally worn open-faced, but it had a sapphire and gold clasp on it that kept the front of it together when needed. It wasn't as over the top as his red and gold formal wear he would sometimes sport, but it was one he favored. "This would save me from using too much chakra if you require backup," Ryouta would add as an idea that might be possible for their little trap.

"OH! Okay! Sheesh! You made me worry I went through all that for nothin'! Wahahaha!" Miroru laughed in relief at the re-affirmation of the necessity of her exam experience, flashing a satisfied thumbs up in the wake of her concern.

"Well, it certainly screams, "look at me, I got money." Which is all we really need you to do. Though why do you have something like that just floating around? Are you secretly the merchant prince of a country-wide consortium?! Did your dad invent kunai or something?!"

She nodded in approval of his alternative. "That would be a good idea. Managing chakra is always an important consideration."

You know absolutely nothing of managing chakra, child.

Ryouta couldn't help but awkwardly laugh at Threondy's enthusiasm and energy it was a bit more than he was used to. It was a sign of her young age, but he wasn't about to just back down just because he wasn't as enthusiastic so he would need to pump up his energy to try and match hers. When it came to why he had such flashy clothing he had to give an honest answer and say, "Well I had a feeling a disguise might be needed for the mission and who doesn't like dressing up now and then?" It was true as the outfit was one he liked to wear on occasion to make himself feel good. After all, clothing had this ability to uplift someone's spirit at times and it certainly did for him at times.[break][break]

"But no I'm not a merchant prince or the child of an inventor I just like to look nice from time to time," Ryouta would say pulling out the rest of the outfit that had matching navy blue pants. "Now if you will excuse me I need to get changed," he would add before heading to a hidden spot nearby to change out of his current clothes to his new disguise. Sleeking back his hair to look more formal instead of this normal hair he would put the majority of his stuff away hidden from view so he looked like he was also unarmed. He would return to Miroru and add, "I will be unarmed for this diversion to keep it more realistic so be sure to keep a close eye on things." This was his way of saying he wanted her to make sure he wasn't snuck up on because even though he would be unarmed he wasn't defenseless, but it would be better if she thought he was so the trap could be more convincing in his mind.

"Well, I'll say this much, you came prepared for the assignment at hand, for sure!" Miroru chirped happily. "Oh, sure, go get changed, I'll manage "getting" us a nice mule for your travels, great and wonderful merchant-san!" Miroru half-teased as she scampered off rather than crowd his changing time.

The True Transformation jutsu was one Miroru adored. Typically, she'd rather use it for being a bird, or a fish, or something that lived entirely differently to her own land-based lifestyle, but for this mission, a nice mule with some heavy packs would do just fine.

As such, by the time that Ryouta came back from changing into his more mercantile outfit, he was greeted by one grinning redhead pipsqueak and one somehow smug-looking donkey laden with heavy packs. "Tada! Your traveling companion awaits you, Ryouta-san!"

"Just don't give up on me! We can figure this out!"
