High ranks had high responsibilities, as well as tied themselves to some of the more grave shinobi truths. Yoshiko would rather meet people under better circumstances, but she had no way to undo the wrongs which had beset this poor genin. His team were lost too a poorly judged mission, it shouldn't of gone down like it had. However this wasn't a completely unheard thing, often people created contracts leaving out the most important details. Even with Iwagakure's ear to the ground they couldn't of heard these ill steps coming, but at least they'd now know the individual wasn't to be trusted to contract them.

Unable to simply undo the horrors of a fatal failed mission, the Nohime still needed to make sure the sole survivor had a new team. A genin required supervision, a teacher and friends to help them grow along the way. Where was best for this boy wasn't readily clear to the Jounin Hanchou. Nor could she be confident purely on 'report' that the genin's psyche was intact enough to immediately hit the fray. These were things she had to find out for herself, if she was to properly re-assign this member of the Nekomata.

Arranging for a meeting the genin would of received a message letting them know the Jounin Hanchou requested a meeting. It'd be no stuffy office or rock training ground, but instead the Nohime would reserve a table for the two at one of Iwagakure's finest restaurants. A person who suffered needed the most love and care that the girl could offer. She'd only hope he'd not take this the wrong way and have the appetite to match the menu. It was a booth seat, as to allow them a level of privacy and upon arriving Shizuka would be brought to her table. Appetizers already say in the middle of the table awaiting the genin,

A time piece in the boy's hand ticked away, the second hand unrelenting in it's pursuit to finish the minute, only to start again. It was a testament to the absolute. Time did not wait, it did not hold itself for anyone, or anything. Shizuka knew that. Even now, having taken on the name of his missing sister, the true name of the boy was nearly lost to it. Who was he then, and who now? Reflections in the mirror never stayed the same, turning into the faces of the people he recently lost, their remembrance renewing the grief he felt now that they were no longer here.

Unable to protect then, and unable to die with them put the neko in a tough spot. He could deny it, refute it, but he could not forget it. It had only been a couple of months now that he was released from the infirmary, his wounds nearly fatal. Miraculously, medical staff determined that his abilities and chakra system were fine and that he would not suffer any diminished capabilities. Perhaps for it, he had to count his lucky star. Now matter how bleak or dark something was, there was always a silver lining... or at least a gray one.

Ticking past the minute mark, it was time for his meeting with the head jonin. He knew not the reason for this meet-up, but he could only guess. Maybe they would be evaluating him, sniffing for any psychological trauma relating to his failed mission. Certainly it was anything but a friendly invite to a lunch. Iwagakure wasn't known for their hospitality.

His heartbeat in his neck -robbing him of breath- he sat where he was, dangling from a short stone wall just around the corner of the restaurant the Nohime Jonin wanted to meet at. He would be lying if he said he wasn't anxious. Wouldn't anyone with a wound in their heart so recent? That feeling of powerlessness he felt in the moment didn't abate despite the moons passing, but that was all the more reason that he needed to become more than what he was. He hadn't yet found what he needed to propel himself forward, but he didn't want to give up before finding it in the first place.

Hopping down off the wall, he made his way around the block and entered the restaurant.

Though he did not speak, he felt it rude to walk in to the establishment with his face covered, so his mask was down, the boy's androgynous features plain for anyone to see while he made his way to the table of the person he was to meet. His pace was even, almost measured. He found himself diving quite deep into his day to day actions as a way to clear his mind. The expression on his face was largely neutral, though one could see the faintest trace of being out of his element, uncomfortable in a setting he wasn't used to. He never made it a habit of frequenting places like this.

Yoshiko was a sensor shinobi and pretty proud of her deduction skills. She'd since the boys path being lead to her position, so just as he was walking up on their both she'd slip out of her seat. Hands crossed over her lap in a very open and sort of unarmed fashion, her smile was wide and genuine, as she'd greet the boy with a slight bow of her head. "Okami Shizuka, thank you for meeting me here! I'm Nohime Yoshiko, Jounin Hanchou and head of the Nohime clan, please come have a seat the appetizers are starting to cool down."

The young lady spoke with a pep in her tone and sense of overwhelming joy and pride. Her hand gesturing to the booth seat opposite of where she'd just perked from. An assortment of hot and cold appetizers, shrimp, blooming onions, skewered chicken and boiled edamame. Between her the work of her rank, the side job of SHAKAR and her own sway as a clan head. The expense of this little meet-up was no concern to the Nohime. Waiting for the boy to give any greetings, state any concerns and just in general until after he took his spot. Yoshiko would follow sliding back into her spot.

The Restaurant was a well lit, a bit over decorated, but especially in this booth section lacking too much traffic. There was only really another table visible and able to view on their discourse too. The seating would be a well padded bench style seat, the table a perfectly sized for about four people to eat. However it'd look a little dwarfed due to the preset appetizers, a menu sat at either side of the table for both of them. Hopefully a clear sign there'd be a meal involved too.

To hear their full name spoken by a head jonin straight out the gate was a shock to the boy. Often shying away from social activity, He had little skill interacting with others and it showed. He opened his mouth in a silent display of shock, his brows raising to match his nervousness. To go to such lengths for him, a kid she did not know personally was a gesture nothing short of miraculous.

It was almost unbelievable. Looking at the table, filled to the brim with appetizers that were sure to cost in excess of coin. And yet, somehow, he had a feeling this was not all she had in store for him. Quickly, his thoughts were filled with food, despite his best efforts. He was often eating things for convenience, bland, tasteless things that were preserved or prepared in such a way to last. This eclipsed anything he would eat typically, and it wasn't close.

Mildly panicking internally, he looked around a bit before looking up at her, meeting eyes before responding to her bow with one of his own. A bit more formal than hers, pitching to show a greater level of respect than one might for a peer of similar rank before fumbling at a scroll from his belt.

A fairly medium size, the scroll could display a few sentences at a time before he would need to scroll it over to use a fresh segment. Swiftly, and with a deft hand, he scrawled a few sentences on the parchment, contemplated it for a moment and turned it around, facing Nohime.

No, please, the pleasure is all Shizuka's! For me to inconvenience Nohime-sama like this, Shizuka is sure Nohime-sama must have more pressing matters than to meet such a low ranking such as I. For this you have my gratitude...

Practically hiding behind the scroll, his eyes barely popping up above the parchment as she read, he averted his gaze automatically, a habit of his no doubt. Once he was confident that she was finished reading his greeting, he would roll up his paper and holster it once more before waiting for a signal to be seated.

Despite shyness and modesty, he had to remember why he was here. This was not an off-the-cuff meeting. She had most definitely a reason for being here, despite his coy reply. Thinking about this, he seated once he saw her prepare the same motion.

Expectantly, he glanced at her, nearly forgetting about the food, his mind going off the rails on drawing conclusions to the purpose of their appointment. He would wait for her blessing to begin to eat however, finding it rather uncouth to begin a meal without the host's gesture.

"There's nothing more important than our villages future!" A statement spoken with a jovial tone. Truthfully she had a debt in her heart to Iwagakure. A feeling of nationality passed down from her father, a certain need to serve and her beliefs that love conquered all. She needed to show everyone in the village her love to nurture them into the best shinobi the nation needed.

"Please have much as you want and reply when you're comfortable. Make sure you look through the menu and pick whatever you'd like out. This is my treat and I want it to feel like one." Yoshiko would state making sure she grabbed her menu too. A wide smile on her face as she would be genuinely enthusiastic to have a meal here. She'd been to just about every business in the village, so she had a decent idea of what places had the most scrumptious food.

Her words would however have a bit of a double meaning, as she'd not intend to jump head first into the topic at hand. It was a sensitive one after all, to be engrossed in something negative could sour ones appetite and refusing to eat wasn't good for anyone. A body could grow nor ones chakra pools if they're malnourished. Honesty came from people whose minds weren't clouded with concerns like hunger.

Assuring the boy it was okay to eat, Yoshiko would begin eating some of the appetizer before looking through the menu on her side. As to gesture it was completely okay to go ahead and do the same, she'd purposely avoid opening with the conversation at hand. Instead to pass the little time before their waitress would come and take their orders, the jounin hanchou would open a folder on the genin. "Just to verify some information on our file for you, nod up and down to these questions please."

"Age 15. Nekomata Clan daughter of Okami and Mugen families. You've been a genin over two years now. Ranged weapons proficiency. Elemental nature wind style. Cat Familiar named Yukikaze. Perfect~" Confirming enough of the blanket information, there was a lot more to a shinobi's file. Though this was all the to the Nohime's knowledge non-personal stuff.

While she had a rock solid point, he still felt awful about it but insisting would only lead to more inconvenience. He decided it would be best to leave it at that. After all he was still genuinely happy to be talking to someone. He had felt awfully isolated since the incursion. A terrible place to be after something as traumatizing as that. Something he found out the hard way.

Nodding to her suggestions, he waited for her to begin before he started himself. The first thing he picked out was a delicious looking piece of harumaki, having the delightful crunch of the perfect spring roll before moving on to one of the plates of takoyaki. Honestly the cat in him would be fine enough just munching these down and calling it a day, but that would be rather uncouth of him.

Occasionally, he would glance at her looking through the menu, pretending to do that same himself. He had known what he wanted before he even opened the menu. He was just a simple boy like that. It might make him boring, but he couldn't bring himself to go outside of the meal he always had and knew he liked. Make no mistake, everything looked amazing, but he always defaulted to one thing.

Waiting for her to move on from the menu selections, his ears perked up instantly when she began to talk, Yukikaze poking his head out of the nekoshounen's tunic at the mention of his name, looking at the jonin with intrigue.

He nodded to basically everything, even though he made a blush that he hoped she didn't see when she said 'female'. However, he did want to add a few more notes to her dossier so he pulled out a small scroll and unfurled it onto the part of the table that they were not using, facing it sideways so he could write horizontally and have her be able to read as he did so.

Moving his finger across it, words started to form as he let loose the smallest bit of chakra he could. Using something of a katon release, the words were made using heat on thermal reactive paper. (think about retail receipts)

Shizuka would like to add that they have been developing proficiency in fuinjutsu as well. They have been practicing several techniques, some that are pretty difficult. Also, so far... Shizuka has not been trained in the Nekomata hijutsu. However, a family member is coming soon to aid in my training! They are coming all the way from Amegakure to visit! Mikio oneesan, from the Miyake family! Shizuka is most excited for their visit in Iwagakure.

Mirroring the excitement portrayed in the scroll, the boy was smiling rather shyly, but with a genuine happiness that someone from their clan is coming from so far to help them train.

"I'll make a note of that." She'd state with a slight nod her hand almost instantly finding a pen on her person, before she'd move through the genin's file and make a clear motion. She'd specifically note in on a section of what'd seem like general notes. There was a multitude of factors which determined how the village reported or recorded the 'skills' of their shinobi. Despite being the Hanchou, she knew this interaction too short to trail information. Though she'd also add on scrap piece of paper this information, as it'd be possibly beneficial to consider someone with fuuinjutsu skill as team leader.

"That's lovely news! Amegakure is an amazing place with some of the best non-rock shinobi. Maybe you'll get a turn to visit them for training and get to see it for yourself. It's obviously a bit gray, but if you've an open mind the innovation and visual resilience is beautiful~! Hehe~" Yoshiko would sort of laugh in the joyous mood of thinking about her allies. The shinobi they'd sent had worked with her father after all. Even if he technically lost revolt, it certainly wasn't their fault and good friends are around for the good and bad.

"Do you normally have trouble finding a teacher here though?" The brunette sort of needed to know, but her mind was pretty settled family might be a tough subject. Especially knowing that their sibling had runaway, it could of lead to some unspoken rumors essentially furthering their troubled life. They however didn't feel like they'd been scarred into an unstable or broken state. They so far were passing all the basic vibe checks of a health shinobi. So hopefully asking this would be the softest entry on the subject.

Maybe Yoshiko could force a jounin of the clan to head Shizuka's new team. That or find someone who can enrich the training that might relate to the overall topic. If her knowledge of the Nekomata and ninjutsu were correct, then the transformation was only a few techniques. It'd be mastering the forms and fighting within them that'd be the most time consuming. Perhaps finding someone who was capable in aiding on the ideals and practices of augmented combat.

Their eyes darkened ever so slightly at their mention of family. The head jonin's voice felt delicate when they asked about the topic. Asking about having a trainer for their hijutsu. Originally, Yukikaze wasn't even his familiar. It was the real Shizuka's, as male Nekomata are not to be given one. Yukikaze was a constant reminder of just one of the many things he'd already lost. His mother sure, but it was a lose he had already moved on from. Nothing will change the finality of death. But his sister...

She was still out there. His heart ached because she yet still lived. He wondered where she was, what she was doing...

Shizuka does...

The scroll read, a line being drug across at the end of his reply, a physical gesture that he was trailing off, his mind occupied. Troubled, frustrated, hurt, betrayed. His finger trembled on the scroll, struggling. It was as if his hand was battling against what his brain wanted it to write.

I'm not the real Shizuka.

Characters read as he continued. Unlike his previous replies, his penmanship took a notable decline. His strokes were uneasy and shaky, his kanji becoming harder to read as the truth was written on the scroll. Normally, his light, glacial blue eyes invited feelings of tranquility, or perhaps serenity. They reminded one the purity a winter wonderland, a star in the sky on a Christmas night.

Bitterness seeped in heavily. Iced over by the unforgiving winds of the tundra. The other, darker side of the season. The coldness that comes with being burned, almost like a heart that freezes in time, locked in place like a frozen still frame.

The final thing he wrote, before turning the discussion over to her, was the truth. It was sloppy, it was dark and bold, it was filled with emotion. Filled with so many different, negative feelings that it was hard to describe it. Only that it looked like the darkness that loomed in the hearts of the unfortunate.

The one eye that was visible beyond his bangs looked up at the jonin, staring at her for her reaction. His pupil was constricted as if it was midday, his feline slit barely visible between the blue of his iris. Slowly, he took his hand from the scroll to let her read it.

Nohime Oneesan. My name is Shirayuki, son of the Okami family...
