Rain was still falling over the village of Ten'ei when Kai had arrived on scene with Hitomi and Saya. The storm had passed, somewhat- At least the worst of it- But it was still pretty bad, pretty wet, and pretty cold.

Which is why Kai had a giant hoodie on with a jacket on top to cover all of his vital bits, with a cigarette in his mouth puffing away to keep warm. His eyes darted around the area calmly as he entered the village, and had a hunch that they were going to need to do some serious work.

"Ah... Hitomi..." It was a question of 'what should I do first', really, as she was the medic here, not to mention the senior shinobi.

=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=

The village itself was trashed. Buildings blown over left and right, trees and foliage sent crashing into various different areas, clothes and personal items every which away- But most of all, there were bodies.

Some alive, some not. If one had to put a number on it, there had to be at least twelve bodies in various states of disarray across the field, though on closer inspection from a proper medic, only half of those were still alive.

Of the six alive, they were all in various states of injury themselves. Without going from worst to best in anyway, the bodies were as followed...

The worst was a woman of around 70 years of age, who had been impaled through the stomach by a tree branch, leaving her unconscious and bleeding heavily. It was a rather fortunate thing they had made it here in time, as it was clear she wouldn't make it much longer without some help. A young girl, perhaps her daughter, was currently crying over her and trying to keep her awake.

From there, another elderly man- This one with his arm barely hanging on- Laid unconscious against the side of a building. The arm was likely a goner, but the real kicker here was it was still bleeding. It wasn't horrible blood loss, but it was enough that he'd likely bleed out if it continued.

A fifteen year old boy seemed to be unconscious as well, in labored pain, trapped under a table. Splinters seemed to be in his body in various places, and a grieving father was desperately trying to pull the wood off him without any idea of what exactly he was doing.

A woman of around 20 years of age had been flung clear from her bed halfway across the village, and laid in a crumpled heap crying in pain. At this point, her voice was hoarse from the crying and her screams had turned to sheltered whimpers, with every one of her limbs pointed in a way it definitely shouldn't be. Villagers were crowding around her, trying to figure out what to do with her, but honestly, it was mostly just a group panic.

A pair of brothers stood by the corpses of the rest of their family, though they were hardly in great condition themselves- With cuts, scrapes and bruises all over them from a collapsed house. However, the looks on their faces showed they were unlikely to leave their deceased family members so easily, even if they too needed treatment if they didn't want to get some serious infections or bloodloss.

Those were the live ones. The rest were rather trivial wounds- Scratches, scrapes, minor cuts. The six mentioned were the only ones with actual life threatening injuries, though a vast array of others would need help and assistance as well. The only question here was...

Who was going to do what, exactly?

Rain lashed against the oiled brown leather of her cloak, the wind whipping her bangs back and forth as she followed after Kai and the medic-nin Konoha had sent, her honey-yellow gaze narrowed against the storm; it had been the worst to hit Nohara no Kuni in living memory, but of all the places hit, Ten’ei had been affected the most. Whole houses laid in ruins, entire swaths of the village simply gone beneath the might of the swirling black clouds that had descended upon the defenseless villagers.

The trip into the village had been a quiet, somber affair, with most of it spent fighting the wind and rain; she hadn’t had a single chance to corner Kai and ask him about how things were fairing with Sachi, nor been able to utter so much as a word to the medic-nin. She wasn’t even certain of the woman’s name- all she knew, based on a quick glance at the woman’s face, was that she was a Hyuuga and fairly pretty.

It wasn’t until they arrived, though, that the truth of just how bad things were became evident.

"Oh, gods…" Saya whispered, her eyes flicking from one body to the next, honey-yellow gaze wide despite the wind. There were so many dead already, so many who needed help- and they were but three. Three cold, wet Shinobi, of whom only one was anything close to a healer. Kai, at least, seemed to grasp the severity of the situation, his voice echoing over the rain as he asked their medic, Hitomi, what she wanted them to do.

"Wherever you need me, Hyuuga-san."

Hyūga Hitomi

It had been... a long time since she'd been in the field, but when an emergency struck and and ally asked, well... Konoha was well known for its Iryo-nin, and she was one of the two strongest combat healers in the village, which meant she was sent out as a first response. Miho-dono would have done a better job of course, but they weren't going to send their chief medic out on something like this.

Just the Hyūga clan head.

Clad in her green robes, she didn't look much the part of the clan head, and she'd been playing the role for so long that she couldn't help the tick of agitation that came from the young Uchiha's lack of any honorific, or the Hono's 'san'. It didn't really matter, not in this time and place, but she'd been dealing with underhanded rudeness the past few months and it was almost reflexive.

Coming to a stop at the outskirts of the village, the veins around her eyes bulged as she activated her Byakugan, scanning the surroundings carefully to assess the situation. She didn't seem to be reacting to the rain or wind, dark hair slowly plastered to pale skin as she considered the triage that would be necessary. Her face was the calm sort of impassive that her clan was generally known for, and her Byakugan flicked from person to person with the sort of minute twitches that only the Uchiha might notice, being a doujutsu user himself.

"Saya-san, take the medical kit over to that building there, you will find an elderly man with a near amputated arm, take the torniquet and wrap it around his arm above the injury, it must needs be placed against his bare skin, but not at the elbow or shoulder joints. Use the stick to tighten it until the bleeding stops, this will likely hurt him, however it is better than dying. Stay with him until I can join you," the Hyūga instructed, tossing Saya the medical pack she had brought and gesturing to where the old man was.

"Kai-san, there is a boy trapped beneath a wooden table in that building over there, his father is likely to make his situation worse. Please go and get him out from under it, but do not remove anything from his body." Another gesture in the relevant direction.

Hitomi herself disappeared in a quick blur of Shunpo to stop by the woman with the broken limbs, tossing a small bottle of green liquid to one of the bystanders. "Apply that to her limbs gently to ease her pain, but do not move her. Cover her from the rain as well, I will be back to assist after I have dealt with the worse cases." And like that she was gone again, racing towards the impaled old woman.

Kneeling in the mud beside the woman, the Hyūga examined her carefully, eyes peeling back the flesh to figure out the safest way to remove the branch. "I will heal her, please be patient," she reassured the younger woman nearby, flipping through the handseals for Water Scalpel, which she used to gently slice at the branch and surrounding flesh, sectioning it while also cleansing the injury of contaminants. Moving with quick assuredness, she removed the branch. This was followed by another two handseals as she switched to the Mystical Palm, delicately working to regrow the damaged tissue with the sort of precision that only she was capable of.

It would take her some time, but she hoped that nothing would go wrong while she was otherwise occupied.

Byakugan
As a Hyūga, Hitomi has the infamous Byakugan Kekkai Genkai, granting her a near 360 degrees field of vision around himself, save for a small blind spot at the back of her neck above the thoracic vertebra. Her eyes are capable of seeing through most objects, giving her incredible perception of her surroundings when the doujutsu is active. Hitomi has put significant time and energy into developing her ability to see with the Byakugan, her maximum range reaching up to 4km. Her eyes also allow her to see infrared, through chakra barriers, discern clones from their makers, determine colour of someone’s chakra, and determine if a genjutsu is being used or not.

As with any Hyūga, she is incredibly capable in her ability to see chakra, including the chakra circulatory system inside a person’s body, thus allowing her to easily identify the precise location of the tenketsu, which is paramount in the use of the Gentle Fist to its maximum capacity, power, and finesse.

Medically Precise Chakra Control
Hitomi has pinpoint perfect chakra control as is expected of any skilled Iryo-nin. With her training as a Hyuuga and her doujutsu on top of that, she has excellent fine control over the movements and applications of her chakra.

Healer of the Hyūga
Hitomi has undergone the intensive training expected of one of the Main Branch healers of her clan. She has an excellent knowledge of the systems of the human body, the ways in which they can become sick, injured, and die, as well as how one treats such things... or causes them. Her knowledge and skills in this area even without the use of jutsu or her byakugan, she stands as one of the pre-eminent medics in Konoha.

Byakugan Wielding Iryo-nin
As a Hyūga Iryo-nin, Hitomi is skilled enough to read the heart rate and brain impulses of people, thus allowing her to read people's emotion to the point she is able to detect what her targets are feeling (such as rage, fear, confusion, etc), as well as identify if they are speaking the truth or lying. In peaceful situations this grants her excellent diplomatic and interrogative skills, while in combat it can give her an edge in knowing what her opponents might do.

Beyond this, Hitomi’s training and experience as a medic has allowed her incredible insight into the bodies of others, her Byakugan allowing her to see things at a near microscopic level should she focus on them.

NAME: Subakage-ryū: Shunpo [New Shadow Style: Flash Steps]
RANK: D
CHAKRA USAGE: Low-High
CLASSIFICATION: Taijutsu
ELEMENT: N/A
HANDSEALS: N/A
REQUIREMENT: Subakage-ryū: Hohō [New Shadow Style: Step Method]
DESCRIPTION:

Within the Step Method's branching techniques, the Flash Steps is the most refined for pure velocity and acceleration in one, linear direction. From the point of origin until the shinobi stops, they are able to move at an incredible pace, practically vanishing from sight. However, this is an incredibly taxing method of movement, and if used to move too far it can stress the body. It cannot reach the speed granted by Body Flicker, but it is not quite as devastating on the user. Traveling beyond fifteen meters with one step will cause great stress to the body. It still has a high chakra cost, but the muscle strain will immobilize the shinobi for one round as their body recovers. It is possible to utilize multiple flash steps back to back, but cost must be paid individually.

CHAKRA USAGE: Low (Drain)

CLASSIFICATION: Medical Ninjutsu

ELEMENT: Suiton

HANDSEALS: 5 - Dog, Tiger, Bird, Dragon, Snake

REQUIREMENT: Chakura no Mesu - [Chakra Scalpel]

DESCRIPTION:

This technique is functionally identical to its parent technique with the added effect of the scalpel extracting toxins, pathogens, and other impurities from the area surrounding cuts inflicted with it. This makes it ideal for performing surgeries and other medical procedures in the field where disinfectants are scarce/unavailable. Additionally, this technique is useful for countering poisons of the same power or lower, as areas cut with the scalpel will stop being afflicted by their effects.

NAME: Shousen Jutsu - [Mystical Palm Technique]

RANK: A

CHAKRA USAGE: Medium [Continuous]

CLASSIFICATION: Ninjutsu [Medical]

REQUIREMENTS: Enhanced Chakra Control & Medical Training SAs

ELEMENT: N/a

HANDSEALS: 2

DESCRIPTION:

This medical ninjutsu allows the user to speed up the body's natural healing process by sending chakra from their hands into a wound or afflicted body part. This allows the user to heal a patient without the need for medical equipment or surgery, making it very useful on the battlefield. It can be used to treat both external and internal injuries. It is vital to match the amount of chakra used to the severity of the affliction or injury. This requires a great amount of chakra control. Because of this, only a few highly skilled medical-nin are able to use this technique to it's full potential. As miraculous as this technique is, it should be known that it can only speed up what the body is already capable of doing.

Well, at least the severity of the situation was being looked at. Kai nodded quickly over at Hitomi, noting her agitation at something he'd said. Kai wasn't much one for honorifics in the first place, though it wasn't out of rudeness, more so just who he was as a person.

Still, he was given orders, and good soldiers followed orders. And Kai? He was a damn good soldier. He probably shouldn't be using this time to practice things he wasn't completely sure on, but... Whatever. He needed training, and what better time then when peoples lives were on the line.

He moved over to the wood pile and took a glance at the older man, placing a hand on his shoulder.

"Relax. I'm here to help." The father seemed to understand, at the very least, but the panic on his face showed he wasn't totally sure what he was doing here.

Kai moved forward and gripped a piece of lumber. If he wasn't careful, this entire thing could come crashing down and crush the kid, so he'd have to be patient. Or...

He could perform a bit of Jutsu trickery. Kai knew a few lesser jutsu that were more for utility than anything else. Things like starting a simple fire or lighting ones cigarette. Not things one would note down on any list though. Still, he placed a hand on either side of the table, performing careful practice of a technique he was trying desperately to learn.

Some used seals on their own two hands. Some even learned to perform single handed seals. But Kai's thoughts were more advanced than that. It wasn't just one handed seals he was learning- He was learning to perform seals even when his hands were occupied.

Obviously, this required more hand movements for the same amount of seals- Usually around twice as many- But it allowed him the dexterity to perform seals even while holding a weapon.

Or in this case, a wooden table, as he aimed to move fire chakra through the edges, burning the legs properly so that he could easily lift the smaller piece without disrupting the rest of the lumber.

With that done, he'd move the pieces around a bit more with his own two hands- While he wasn't physically overpowered or anything, he did have the strength to carry around his massive weapon and armor- So something like this table was childsplay by comparison, as he finally decided to end his little game by dragging a nearby blanket to cover the boy so that he didn't get, well, rained on further.

"What next, ma'am?" He'd call out to his sensei. While he hadn't given an honorific, he had given her a sense of title as a superior- Although he didn't understand her agitation, one would hope that giving her the proper title of ma'am would show respect towards her as a senior official.

=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=

Thankfully, there was a medic there working as a god-sent miracle worker. Her assistance with the broken limbed woman was taken at... Fair value by those trying to assist, though their knowledge with the strange green liquid might as well have been none as they only knew to apply it to limbs, which was... Well, hard.

Mostly because the girl was screaming, and those trying to help were in a panicked state that made actually assisting difficult, as they struggled to try and help. Getting that liquid on would be tough, and they were obviously slow to it, as the poor girl began to pass out from shock.

Meanwhile, the older woman was not in a great state, but that was to be expected from her advanced age. The younger woman stepped aside to allow Hitomi to work on her, and as she sat there performing her surgical incisions, slowly pulling at the impaled branch, the woman's Dojutsu would notice something...

The branch had been plugging some very ripped apart and damaged arteries deep inside of the old womans body. Before she'd begin her work to remove the branch, her powerful vision and advanced medical skills would notice that if she had moved the branch or ripped it out, it likely would have caused a massive amount of bleeding. It wasn't just damaged arteries- They were quite severed, and would need to be reattached surgically if the old woman was to survive.... And that wasn't even mentioning trying to survive surgery in the first place.

However, her usage of the Shousen was quite effective at healing the other injuries on her body, as well as stabilizing her further.

Saya listened, her honey-yellow gaze taking in the destruction with solemn severity. It would take months for Ten’ei to recover from this kind of damage, maybe years, and with the body count already so high… Focus, Saya. The Hono girl thought, taking the medical kit from Hitomi before she ran off in the indicated direction, nodding once in understanding as she went over the lessons she’d taken back at the Academy on basic battlefield medic.

It didn’t take long for her to find the man in question, his body slumped over against the side of a mostly destroyed building. His arm was, as the Hyuuga had said, almost completely gone, hanging on by what looked like a patch of skin and the tiniest bit of muscle just above the elbow; the wound was still bleeding, slowly but surely pumping his life out into a growing puddle of crimson that threatened to spread out into the street.

Moving quickly, the redhead pulled out a small field tourniquet from the medical kit and slid the fabric around the elderly man’s arm, putting it about three inches above where the wound was before she pulled the straps tight and twisted pin at the top, which slowly cranked the tourniquet closed around his arm. It took about a minute for her to apply the thing in full, her eyes flicking back and forth between the pin and his bleeding arm, twisting it in until the blood flow stopped.

Once that was done, Saya grabbed a roll of fresh gauze and some antiseptic paste, which she lathered over the open wound before wrapping it with the gauze as best she could, using her body to block the rain. With the bandage set, the Hono girl closed the medkit, glancing at the elderly man’s now fully removed arm before letting loose a long, slow breath. The Hyuuga medic had told her to stay with him, but… No. Listen to the medic, Saya. You’d only be doing more harm than good. She thought, looking away from the mostly severed arm, hoping that she had made the right choice.

Hyūga Hitomi

Hitomi resisted the urge to sigh as she realised that the damage was worse than she expected, ceasing her jutsu for a moment as she moved through a series of handseals before pressing her hand to the ground with the seal for Kuchiyose no Jutsu appearing for a brief moment as she summoned the collection of squirrel sized foxes known as the Bakenokawa.

"Go to the other casualties and keep an eye on them, keep me in contact with the Genin as well," she instructed quickly as she returned to her patient, hands glowing green as she kept up the mystic palm jutsu. "Let me know if any emergencies occur. Tell Saya to give the old man a blood pill too to keep his pressure up, then monitor his pulse." With the mental connection between each of the foxes, they would have an instantaneous method of letting her know what was going on while she was busy.

With one hand keeping the healing going on the elderly woman's injury, she fished out a blood pill from one of her pockets and slipped it into the patient's mouth as she made her swallow it with practiced ease. The pill would make sure that the woman wouldn't bleed out while she worked on her, hopefully. With the extraneous details taken care of, the Hyūga head turned her focus onto the worst damage of the blood vessels, focusing her chakra specifically on them as she reached for the branch once more, slowly moving it millimeter by millimeter as she worked to reconnect the bloodvessels with every ounce of control she could wring out of the jutsu.

It would be slow going, but she had to do this now, there wasn't much of a chance to get the old woman to an actual hospital. She'd keep her ears open for reports from the Bakenokawa, but for the moment she dedicated herself to at least stabilising this woman so she could move on. There would be time to finish the healing later, but right now she would settle for 'not dying'.

If she'd known it would be this bad she'd have insisted on a second medic.

The little foxes would run around the village as quickly as possible, their stealthy little paws carrying them to each casualty and appearing near the two other shinobi seemingly out of nowhere.

To Saya, the little masked fox whispered the instructions passed on from Hitomi, and should the Kusa-nin ask, would relay instructions provided by Hitomi on how to keep him relatively stable until he could be helped. It was a stressful moment, but there was only so much the medic-nin could do. "We will send people to you for basic first aid while you watch him, provide them with disinfecting salve and bandages, but do not remove anything stuck in their body," the summon added "...oh, and cover the old man's arm for now, so they do not see his injury".

To Kai, the fox that approached him clambered up onto his shoulder. He might have seen such foxes before, as they were often summoned by Miroru. "Hitomi-sama asks you to assist the woman with the broken limbs," the Bakenokawa stated, "if you can, elevate her legs but do not if you think you will hurt her further. Then monitor her, she may require CPR. Hime-sama is dealing with a complicated case, she may not be able to respond immediately."

Elsewhere around the village, the Bakenokawa began to round up people who were not too badly injured and directed them towards Saya's location, where she could provide basic first aid while monitoring her charge.

DESCRIPTION:

One of the most common and beneficial techniques in the known shinobi world. Simply drawing blood and releasing a mass of chakra from one's extended hand is capable of calling an animal or otherwise to one's location. As a Space-Time Ninjutsu, this technique is capable of instantly displacing an intended summon from wherever they may be to the requested location, though there are obstacles that can prevent this. To use this jutsu, one must first make a contract with whatever they are summoning, living creature or not. Both the size and the stamina of what a shinobi calls upon increases the demand of chakra they must spend to perform the jutsu.

It seemed the others had things handled just fine. Kai did too, mind you- He wasn't exactly some unarmed scamp who couldn't save a few people... But, you know. The positive reinforcement helps. When the little critter jumped onto his shoulder, Kai would glance over and nod once. He hadn't seen anything like it before- In truth, he didn't spend enough time with his cousins, but...

Whatever. He stood up, grabbing his weapon again, before he nodded down at the boy and moved towards the broken apart woman. Man... She was in a bad place. A real bad place. Kai dropped to his knees before her, pushing the others out of the way with, probably less than polite, calm movements, as he tried to get a read on her situation.

Sadly, his medical training was more built around basic injuries or stabilizing someone who was stabbed, not fixing someone freaking out over having all of her limbs broken like a dropped teacup.

Kai didn't say anything yet, but he did stick his weapon into the ground and got to work. The little fox thing was presumably still over his shoulder, watching him as he calmly got to work.

"Put her legs in the air..." A mutterance. I mean, her legs were pointing in different directions each, so that was... Easier said than done. Still...

"This is going to hurt. Think about something nice. Like... A rainy day." Okay, poor choice of words, Kai, but talking wasn't his strong suit. He pulled her legs up towards the sky. Obviously ANY movement done to this poor woman would hurt her, but as for hurting her more? Well...

It was hard to get more hurt than a literal broken body.

Still, as he watched over her, he pushed his weapon between her legs to held keep them held in the air, checking her face as she screamed in horrible agony. Anguish, pain, it seared across the village, as Kai glanced at the little... Fox thing on his shoulder.

"...Erm. Any ideas?" He could use some back up right now, he was reaching the limits of how useful a combat shinobi was in a medical situation.
