murder of crows
Kyuumu Riku

BASIC INFORMATION

SPECIES: Carrion Crow (Corvus corone)
RANK: S rank
CHAKRA NATURE: Wind

FAMILIAR APPEARANCE

While each of these crows are slightly different, it's difficult for a non-Kyuumu to be capable of telling the difference between each one. As for their general appearance, each crow has a black plumage with either a green or purple gloss on their feathers. To match their feathers, each crow's beak, legs, and feet are also black. Each crow ranges from 19-20 inches in height with a wingspan ranging from 33-39 inches. The crows' beaks are rather stout, making the beak look rather short compared to some other birds. Unlike most birds that have a soft plumage, the feathers of carrion crows are more bristly to the touch.

FAMILIAR PERSONALITY

While each crow has its own individual name and personality, only a kyuumu would be capable of telling all the crows apart considering how vast in number this murder of crows actually is. Although some of them might die in combat, they have come to respect the fact that Riku does his best to reduce their losses and after a rather devastating combat mourns the losses of their brethren with them. Due to this earned respect, they're typically unwilling to listen to other Kyuumu unless Riku specifically asks them to listen.

Overall these birds are moderately intelligent, a trait that is pretty unique to crows as a species of birds; but due to their relationship with Riku, they're more than willing to help Riku when he asks. Even when it might not be the most intelligent decision, they care for Riku as one of their own and will protect him with their lives. Due to their intelligence, they can sometimes see through tricks that might even fool the average human; and due to this intelligence, Riku sometimes trusts their observations more than his own in certain circumstances.

FAMILIAR ABILITIES

Vast in Number
Due to being specifically bred to serve as a catalyst for Riku's clan jutsu, such as the Spying Flock Technique, there is an unbelievably large number of crows belonging to the murder, ranging in the thousands. This means that even a jutsu that's massive in scale would merely put a dent in their numbers. Due to their vast numbers and the fact that they're just birds, they're pretty easy to spot and keep track of, they're just an incredible nuisance to get rid of completely.

Keen Sight
These birds were selectively bred for their senses; and while most birds have an incredibly keen sense of sight, these crows have eyesight that puts even the Yatagarasugan to shame. Their eyes excel well beyond that of even a trained shinobi, allowing them to pick up even the tiniest of details such as grass moving abnormally or following a shinobi that might appear as a blur to untrained eyes. In a similar vain to the Yatagarasugan, these crows can see incredibly well in darkness and their ability to pick up minuscule details at even 1km away is impressive to say the least.

Just like regular birds, they can also see in a wider range of colors than regular humans, even being able to see a little bit into the ultraviolet spectrum: though the usefulness of this is rather questionable in most situations, this can allow them to see through simple camouflage that might fool a human. Because a birds' vision is so critical, just like most other birds these carrion crows have an inner nictitating membrane to protect their vision during events like sandstorms.

Keen Hearing
Hearing is often a bird's second most valuable sense; and as a result, their ears have become funnel-shaped after millions of years of evolution: causing sounds to be more focused and easier to hear. While these birds hear a smaller frequency range than humans, they have incredibly acute sound recognition skills allowing them to discern the difference between a human walking through the grass from any other animal. Due to their acute hearing they can hear even the smallest sounds, allowing them to notice breathing or the slightest rustle of clothing from stealthy shinobi that would normally be impossible for a human's ears to pick up without the use of jutsu.

Although their hearing for subtle sounds is incredible, they have to be within a couple hundred feet of the creature creating the sound to be capable of discerning what it is. Otherwise the distance traveled by the sound wave distorts it enough that they can't quite identify the cause or the exact location of the sound. Just like most birds, they're incredibly sensitive to pitch, tone, or rhythm changes, allowing them to pick out sounds that might otherwise get drowned out by ambient noise to a human listener.

Intelligence
Each crow's intelligence within this flock is almost equivalent to that of the average human; making them more than capable to remember names, the appearance of the shinobi that name belongs to, and the descriptions of people that have come and gone through the gates of Kumogakure. While their memory isn't completely infallible, they are birds after all, they're more than capable of identifying rogue shinobi that might try to enter the village or a visitor that has never been to the village. This allows Riku to keep people that are a danger to his village from ever entering the villages' walls.

Due to the birds constantly telling Riku of any changes in the surrounding environment, although the range of this is limited if he's not using the Spying Flock Technique, it's possible for these alerts to clue Riku to the fact that he's under a genjutsu. This can be handy to combat some genjutsu, like a well used Continuous Fog Technique that have obvious visible sensory effects, because his crows would tell him about the environment change if it were actually happening in the real world. This was much more helpful when Riku was younger, but due to his level of expertise now, these constant clues and reminders of the environment can sometimes just be more annoying than helpful.

I think most things listed here is fine, but I actually believe swarm/packs should not be counted as familiars, and that they familiars are individual animals. Things which act as a single mechanism or group should be summons due to the relative level of cohesion and intelligence.
