FAMILIAR APPEARANCE

Shintō is one of the incredibly rare Yatagarasugan that typically have their eyes harvested and implanted in the Kyuumu children at a young age. Having been born with three legs, a legendary mutation from which the creatures obtained that name in the first place, Riku decided to spare the bird from its fate of having its eyes harvested. As their nickname might suggest, the Yatagarasugan is a slightly larger species than a common raven, with an approximate length of 27 inches (70 centimeters) and a weight of 2.808 lbs (1.296 kg). Aside from having a third leg, Shintō is a typical Yatagarasugan with piercing yellow eyes, a matching yellow beak, and a body that's almost identical to that of a common raven. As an accessory, the bird wears a simple necklace with three wooden tomoe on it, an ancient symbol that is often tied to its species and means hope for the Kyuumu.

FAMILIAR PERSONALITY

Although a raven's intelligence easily compares to that of a chimpanzee or a dolphin, a yatagarasugan's intelligence dwarfs even the intelligence of a common raven; and in Shintō's case he's even more intelligent than the average Yatagarasugan, with his intellect coming close to that of your average Elite Jounin. Due to his intellect and understanding that Riku spared him from an eyeless adult life, Shintō not only serves the young Kage but sees the man as a dear friend that he'd do anything to protect. Other than Riku, Shintō typically has a rather poor opinion of other Kyuumu that harvest his kinds' eyes to make themselves better shinobi.

Riku's affection for the village and its inhabitants has rubbed off onto Shintō over the years, causing the bird to share a similar affection for Kumogakure citizens from outside of the Kyuumu clan. Although he can't speak human like some familiars, he's more than capable of understanding the human language and helping those that might ask for it. In order to be the most useful to Riku, however, he often flies around the village and sends messages through his master's system of crows, alerting Riku of any dangers that somehow make their way within the village; and in the event he comes across a person in need of help, he can often aid them by alerting the authorities of the village or Riku himself.
