Tsuri nodded as she was told she could keep the fish. The temperature would make the need to do anything crazy to keep the fish from being bad was negligible. So she left it on the hook and let out a breath to once again heat her mittened hands. It took her a moment to catch on that she had actually spoken out loud part of her own personal thoughts that she had wanted to keep in the back of her mind. That was not good...

"I uh... crazy as in... the danger thing. Yeah, yep. Danger," Tsuri would say showing not only to be an absolutely awful liar, but a incapable of thinking on the spot to obsfucate the truth. On the other end, it would be clear she was not willing to talk about it as it was. She was starting to get uncomfortably comfortable with the thought process Masahiko brought forward from her... and it was one best left in a box for now.

Looking like someone in the sketchier business she deflected with a much more reasonable statement to try and close the conversation, "Can we go back Ma-San? I would love to warm up and this fish will go bad even in the cold if I dont get it butchered proper. I can make dinner for Sugi-Rin and I with this!"

FEAR IS THE MIND-KILLER

The girl was a terrible liar, and curiosity bade him press her further, but he stopped himself. Not his farm, not his animals. Were Sakanawa-san one of his own students from his own village, he would never have let the topic drop, but she wasn’t, and he wasn’t especially concerned with how she was conducting herself thus far. Perhaps it would be worthwhile to write to whichever Amegakure shinobi ended up assigned as her team leader, to notify them of this… strangeness in her behavior.

It would be interesting, he thought distantly, to see what kind of shinobi the young girl would become.

She deflected poorly but with a reasonable request, and after offering only a quiet hum in reply, Masahiko gestured back the way the pair had come.

"Of course,” he said. "I’ll escort you back to your quarters.”

He did just that, leading the way through the quiet village, light snowfall floating down from the sky and sticking to the long locks of Masahiko’s hair. He remained quiet on the walk back, lost in his own thoughts.

Before long, they arrived at their destination, the child safely escorted back to warmth and a working kitchen.

"Take care, Sakanawa-san,” Masahiko said.

A pause.

"Every action has a consequence,” he continued softly, benignly, as if he were talking about the weather. "Be sure that your actions have a purpose worthy of their consequences. Good luck to you.”

And Masahiko went home.
