The Kaguya made a good point! If both of them had forgotten, it could've been bad. Well, they probably could have gone back into the forest and all the way back to the encampment to get what they needed, but it would've been a big waste of time for everyone involved. And, as comfortable as Taru felt in the forest with another person at her side, it was technically an unnecessary risk. The animals would probably be grateful to them for their rescue and leave them be, but there was always a chance that some random nasty creature would rear its head and give them trouble, or get them lost between the roots.
"I'll remember next time," she said, holding up a pinky to escalate the sincerity of the claim. "Pinky swear, whoever lies will be made to swallow a thousand needles."
Then, Kimihiro seemed to focus on something. After a moment, he produced a small netsuke, small and smooth, finely sculpted, still warm. She took it with great wonder, eyes practically sparkling. She could recognize it immediately, a kitsune disguised as a priest. A tale of an especially trickstery fox, since priests were usually the ones called on to deal with possession by fox spirits. Anything involving kitsune was always a favorite of hers.
"Amazing!~" She cheered, holding it up and doing a few excited spins. "It's just like that story I told from Hoka no Mura. Hey, did you know white kitsune statues have some of the most powerful feng sui? You could dispel tons of evil kimon just with an idol like this!"
Amped up now, she took off in the direction Kimihiro gestured. Enthused, she offered,
"I'll tell you even more about guardian kitsune on the trip home!"
