shattered foundations
"through crisis, unity."

Shosuke, taking in the sheer number of villagers approaching, makes the best decision he possibly can in this situation: he asks for help, and he delegates. Of the hundred-plus villagers converging on the teenager’s medical station, only a dozen or so have any medical experience, and only two of them are human doctors, all the rest acting as home-trained veterinarians for the livestock that support this farming community. Even still, they all step up to Shosuke’s call, and under the boy’s direction being wrangling and checking in on the villagers.

The villagers that Kiho brings to the medical tent are no worse for wear than any other, mostly unharmed thanks to Kiho’s quick reflexes and fast work. One woman is in tears, absolutely inconsolable, but seems unharmed, and Shosuke is free to accept the tougher cases of severe smoke inhalation, shattered bones, and blood loss that are sent his way by the village medicalfolk.

Okingshi goes on a violent tirade, backhanding one of the children and revealing the unfortunate fate of their parents even as he threatens them with the same—though he catches himself, horrified by his own actions, and tries to gentle himself… the damage is done. The children are terrified and inconsolable.

The timing of Eri’s arrival of fortuitous indeed, as the young woman appears behind Okingshi to offer gentle words and a helping hand. The eldest of the children looks between Okingshi and Eri, and after a moment’s consideration, nods sharply and fearfully before scooping up his youngest sibling and taking Eri’s hand. The rest follow suit, giving Okingshi a wide, fearful berth as they follow Eri outside.

The path is clear thanks to Yaki’s efforts, having rammed a way through the building, and the bulk of the danger of the flaming kitchen is passed once she puts out the flames with her water scroll. The odd trio of Kumo, Kusa, and Konoha can escort the children safely back to the medical tent.

The homestead area has been cleared. All members of team one are free to embark towards the northern entrance of the village to assist in recovery efforts there, or can remain at the medical tent to help coordinate treatment and care.

Azarea, reaching the limits of her chakra, still doggedly persists: her standard sensory is a negligible drain on her chakra, and her Kikaichu are more than capable of assisting her. Through sheer force of will she powers through, crossing the bridge into the northernmost area of the village where flames are still raging through crumbling wood buildings. These flames have been going for some time, however, and the damage is bad: two living. Twenty-three dead. Shigure’s clone and Shuusuke are, in tandem, able to pull the two living to safety, and Azarea is free to continue her search for what seems like are the ever-more-scarce survivors.

Koji, having taken some time to breathe and recover, is now able to rejoin the efforts with whatever he’s willing to put forth—while his chakra banks might be emptied, with a short rest he’s now able to help escort civilians or pull survivors—or corpses—free of wreckage.

Daisuke swallows his pride, his regret, and his shame, and does one of the bravest things a man can do: he asks for help from someone he loves. Kota answers the call. With the wolf summons’ assistance, Daisuke is able to center himself, and while he can’t find it within himself to re-enter Sage Mode, the treacherous balance of nature chakra within himself is restored, and he is able to re-enter the fray.

Sengo drops off the last of the kids in the safe zone, ushering out of the village with a morale-boosting little work that, in spite of the chaos and death and bloodshed all around them, brings a smile to a little boy’s face. Sengo then rejoins Shigure, and the two men venture farther north to the village to continue their recovery efforts.

As with Azarea’s area, the fires have been burning here for some time, and while the initial landslide damage wasn’t as severe it’s clear that the fires have been disastrous. Four living, seventeen dead. The teams have been working quickly, tirelessly, but as the clock winds down and the shinobi reach the other side of the village, their work becomes more exhausting and gruesome than ever.

[found on pinterest, i did not draw this lmao]

We're hitting the final stretch of the event and all of the homestead area has been expertly covered by team one, so I'm merging the threads in order to allow for everyone to participate in the village center effectively if they so choose.

Map has been updated with the team's positions relative to one another. The pink highlights reflect ground already covered in rotations 1 through 6, while the red highlights reflect burning buildings. The blue highlights reflect fires that have been put out. Let me know if you have any questions!

Seventh rotation posting deadline: Sunday March 5, 20:00 HST
timezone converter

I know lots of folks have been going thru it so far this year--myself included, hence the long gap in between rotations (truly, I'm sorry for that :c), and the CEs are currently ongoing at a fast pace. It's a little over a week for the deadline this time, and if anyone needs extra time please let me know and I can extend no problem. Excited to see this through with you guys and thanks for bearing with me (:

- All skills, weapons, and jutsu are allowed.
- Posting window will be strictly enforced. If a participant misses a rotation, they will be skipped. Whatever happened in the last post, if relevant to the skipped character, will happen to the character.
- A 24-hour extension may be given up to two times per member during the event, if the member contacts Tact.
- This event is death enabled and canonically takes place before the Fall 2022 Iwagkaure Chuunin Exams. If you are participating in both events, injuries or death that might occur during Shattered Foundations will significantly impact the proceedings of the exams in Kuwana.

Every rotation, a 1d6 will be rolled to see which Random Event impacts the vicinity of a team member. Another 1d6 will then be rolled to select that team member.

Every rotation, a 1d100 will be rolled. (:

The event will conclude when the entire vicinity has been checked by either team and at least 80% of Kikai’s population has been accounted for, either dead or alive. I will be keeping track of the net encountered civilians across both groups in each rotation.

If events between the two groups overlap, a tertiary thread may be created to merge the two groups and keep events consistent.

Yamamoto Shosuke
"Its just one thing after another..."
quote
Yamamoto Shosuke Avatar
groupCloud Shinobi
age 17 years old birthday 17/05 rank Chuunin occupation Ops Team 1
It was quite the stroke of luck - In all honesty, Shosuke had been expecting to get maybe two or three other medical professionals within the entire group, but here he was with double digits worth of colleagues in this case.

Sure, most of them looked like they probably only had about as much knowledge as you could expect from a veterinarian, but for minor burns and bruises that should be more than enough.

It left him with the freedom to take care of the ones who needed actual severe medical treatment, rather than just minor patching up.

Still, the amount of people who had been injured in this quake only seemed now to be really dawning on him. It was quite the small village, and yet there was so many people here - More injured in one place than he'd ever seen before, even whilst working at the hospital.

Seeing it made him wonder just how they were supposed to cope with this situation. Yes, the village seemed like it had been mostly cleared up, but would there not be others? And if there were others, would there be this many injured there too?

Shosuke had made the decision to switch from being a doctor to being a shinobi because he had hated having to wait until after people were injured to step in. But situations like this only served to remind him that sometimes there wasn't anything you could do to intervene. Sometimes, doctors were still very much necessary.

---

Gesturing one of the older doctors to check in on the inconsolable woman, hoping privately for the wisdom of age to help in this situation, he instead turned his attention to the ones who were immediately in need of pressing emergency care.

These cases were more simple than the others that he'd had to deal with. Though he wished he had clones he could rely on in this instance, he nonetheless treated them as quickly one after the other as he could.

For those dealing with blood loss he ensured that the flow of their blood was staunched and that they were intaking plenty of water to allow their body to make up for what it had lost. There was nothing he could do to regenerate their blood, but he could at least ensure that their body was in peak condition to make more of it on its own.

For those who were dealing with shattered legs, he would give them an injection of a strong sedative before using his Bone Setting jutsu to piece their bones back into one piece before binding their leg.

Even if this wore off after a while, it would at least remain in one general cohesive hole rather than risking piercing through their skin or cutting their arteries with fragments resting around their body.

Finally, those who were suffering from intense smoke inhalation, he would pull them aside and run each of them through the same diagnostic jutsu to ensure that he was able to see just how bad they were internally. Any that weren't too bad he would simply have sit to one side and focus on slow breathing, as oxygen was the most important part of being able to recover from their condition.

Should someone have something more serious... well, he'd have to treat their symptoms as and when they cropped up.

Jutsus Used
NAME: Ikkou Gazou
RANK: E
CHAKRA USAGE: Very Low
CLASSIFICATION: Ninjutsu [Medical]
ELEMENT: -
HANDSEALS: 0
REQUIREMENT: Chakra Control SA
DESCRIPTION: Developed before more advanced medical technologies were around this is a technique where one is capable of creating a incredibly accurate 3-D mental image of a target's internals. Similar to a palpation exam, the physician is capable of performing this by pressing their index and middle fingers against a target and releasing a simple wave of chakra where they then mentally map everything the chakra comes into contact with with precision detail. While this technique is considered far more accurate than many modern technologies is it only useful for the user and is only as good as their knowledge. User can map out around 1ft diameter around the area of contact.

NAME: Hone Setto [Bone Set]
RANK: D
CHAKRA USAGE: Very Low - Low
CLASSIFICATION: Ninjutsu [Medical]
ELEMENT: -
HANDSEALS: 0
REQUIREMENT: Chakra Control SA
DESCRIPTION: Using blood or ink, the user draws seals over an affected area on the patient's flesh, then draws a corresponding seal on each palm (some help may be needed by the less ambidextrous users). Channeling chakra through the seals by placing the hands over the seal drawn on the patient, the medic can draw bones back together, even small splinters pulling back into place as if it were a jigsaw puzzle. This jutsu causes immense pain on the patient if there are no pain killers involved. This jutsu takes one post to set up, and the user cannot be distracted during the process. Once finished, the bone is set for up to one hour. However, it is not healed and needs to be properly set, else it'll slide back apart, causing pain and further injury.

Adrenaline pierced her ears with the crackling of flames. But Yaki's job wasn't done, as she moved to the village. She did like what she was about to do, but it was a necessary job as she took out all of her sealing tags that she had. Stuffing the blank ones into her pockets and heading for rubble locations. She was taxed, her resources burning low despite her reserves. She needed to recover more of the deceased... no one wanted to play corpse collector, but today she would.

"Eri-Sssenpai, pleassse go to asssissst the active groupsss. I... I know what I am bessst for right now, I think Im the only one who can get some of the bodiesss out of the buildingsss... I need to do that." Yakitsu would call as she took off towards what she assumed was the clearer portion of the town. The fire lightened, there was no rescue to come for the dead, but collection would come in the form of a young viper. Having slipped away, her ears continued to ring endlessly it felt like. The image of the dead child and infant fresh enough in her mind to remind her. Death was without mercy for age, and today it had come to collect.

The Devil That You Forgot

Running On Blood And Spite

Hair smeared with dirt till it was more brown then crimson, dark drying blood and ash flecking her clothes a muddled muddy rusty red, eyes covered with goggles and face obscured by her rebreather as her Kikaichu flocked around her in a constant cyclone of flecked gold and low eerie buzzing Azarea had perhaps never looked more like an Aburame then she did in that moment. The woman sweeping through the quadrants with slow and steady steps. Every ounce of her energy focused solely on locating survivors as she extended her chakra senses to their furthest reaches using it to roughly locate survivors before ordering her insects to burrow and confirm the location.

"Dead. Dead. Dead. Dead. Dead." She pronounced each individual like a quiet reaper as the numbers of survivors began to dwindle only pausing on the rare, "Alive." As she signaled the retrieval teams trusting her allies to keep the fires and other threats at bay as she continued her grim work. Blood slowly clotting her mask from her bleeding nose as she pushed herself to the breaking point. Already spent with only spite and will keeping her walking even as her insect chittered angry and fearful at her state.

"Just a little more." She muttered to herself, "I can still do more." Azarea had to hold out for reinforcements. Failure simply wasn't an option.

SA's

Joō no Taikanshiki no Regaria [Queen's Coronation Regalia]
A mutated variant of the Aburame clans Yūdai no Omorejō ["Bewildering Grandeur of the Alpha"] resulting from the subsequent poisoning of Azarea's former Yūdai no Omorejō hive to prevent potential hijutsu theft. While the Joō no Taikanshiki no Regaria lacks the Yūdai no Omorejō size instead Azarea's hive has maintained the ability to produce alpha pheromones and commanding vibrations. Evolving instead to hyperspecialize in these two aspects allowing them to produce pheramones and vibrations strong enough to be detected by human hearing and sense of smell.

Reigning Chakra Control
Fine tuning her chakra control to a razor's edge Azarea is capable of performing delicate techniques with minimal to no wastage of chakra. Allowing her to conserve her reserves in prolonged combat and managed more finickity techniques and jutsu.

Kagura Mind's Eye
Born with a natural affinity towards sensing chakra like her Father before her Azarea has trained herself to become a capable sensory shinobi. Unlocking the Kagura's Mind's Eye, and with it, the ability to passively sense chakra signatures in the distance (when using the technique), thus allowing her to not only track, but also memorize a person's chakra signature, even if barely any chakra is being used. Due to her proficiency with this technique, Azarea can currently passively sense chakra up to 500 meters and actively at 2.5 kilometers.

Techniques
Azarea continues utilizing her chakra senses and Kikaichu to sweep the quadrants for survivors trusting her allies to cover her.

"shattered foundations".
"No matter how many people you may lose, you have no choice but to go on living."

GO BEYOND, PLUS ULTRA!

Shigure's clone worked alongside Kojirou's summon to help the tired Azarea, and together, they managed to rescue two more lives, despite the fact that they found over twenty dead. It was unfortunate, but the couldn't stop to grieve just yet, there was more people they could save, and the clone would continue to hover around Azarea, to not only aid her, but also to protect her. Being a shadow clone, the clone didn't have the same sense of self-preservation, and it would willingly sacrificed itself to save his companions, if it had to. But hopefully, it wouldn't come to that, and it would be able to remain and continue to be useful.

Meanwhile, the original Shigure continued to work alongside Sengo and his Convocation of Eagles to save as many people as they could, venturing father north, so they could go to the parts of the village they were unable to cover before. Still, things were far from great, and the part of the village they hadn't explored yet had been burning for longer, thus leaving even more death in its path. "Come on, people! Tap into your inner strength! They need us to do our best! Don't lose your spirit! We are shinobi!" Shigure tried to motivate his team to continue, but even the Hyuuga felt a sense of relief when he saw that Team One was on their way to aid them, having cleared the homestead area. "That's a hell of a great sight for sore eyes." he thought to himself, cracking a hopeful smile on his feature.

"So what if it seems hopeless? If it were me, I still wouldn't give up. Embrace your dreams. And, whatever happens, protect your honour as a Shinobi, for the price of freedom is steep."

Honō Kojirou
I have an entire world filled with reasons to become stronger!
quote
Honō Kojirou Avatar
groupGrass Shinobi
age 18 years old birthday March 17th rank Chūnin occupation Academy Instructor
In the midst of his efforts with catching the falling debris earlier, Kojirou’s hairband broke and fell off. His long, brushy hair ran down his back with thick bangs covering his forehead and the scar located there. He looked far messier than when he arrived, which was… a very obvious notion.

Still, his duty was still in effect. Azarea showed no signs of stopping in her tracks, and despite the golden clouds of nightmare fuel surrounding her, he followed suit alongside Shūsuke. The latter’s claws digging deep into the ground, kicking up spade-fills of dirt to dampen nearby fires, allowing Azarea’s clouds of insects to operate without fear of getting licked by fire.

But Shūsuke’s chakra was also running low at this point. They were going at it for a while – Kojirou was fresh out of chakra himself, and while Shūsuke wanted to help dig up bodies alongside Azarea, keeping her from dropping dead or her insects from turning to ash was equally as important. Since Kojirou wasn’t able to use his Rubber Ball Jutsu like this, Shūsuke took the role of protector...

In the meantime, Kojirou still made use of some reserved stamina to lead survivors across the safest route to the shelters put up. Basically, he and Shūsuke switched roles, at least until further notice... but for now, only two survivors since last time. Kojirou’s face left monotone, as if soothed by the heat of the near fires around.

But he heard Shigure-senpai’s voice... shockingly cutting through the roaring flames, he heard him. He may not have had chakra left, but with Shūsuke’s help, he could reach wreckages with less fear of the flames grabbing him. Even if with strength alone, he could still save somebody – his arms hadn’t moved at all yet. Euphoric, this sensation, as if power began to bubble up inside of him... wherever there was wreckage, or wherever Azarea localized survivors, Kojirou would help lift them out of the hell they found themselves in.

"Hang... hang in there, Azarea! I have your back!"

Kota now at his side, Daisuke was able to focus, the nature chakra gethering and swirling inside him before his necklace began to glow a pale blue. With a deep exhale, the natural chakra syphoned into the pendent, allowing him to safely exit his pseudo sage mode form.

"Thank you, friend.” The young sage muttered to his wolf companion, holding back the tears as best he could.

"We all have our parts to play, Daisuke. And I'm glad mine is at your side.

Daisuke gave him a warm smile, wiping the tear that rolled down his cheek before he stood, putting himself back in the present, eager to get back to action.

"Alright then,” He started, his hands clenching into fists with a new found flame burning in his breast. "We can make time to catch up and get all soft later. For now, Kota, we have work to do.

The wolf beside him growled as Daisuke moved deeper into the village. Over the chaos that still ran rampart through their surroundings, he heard his friend Shigure call out to the group. A battle cry, if he ever heard one. His words, though, brought Daisuke's familiar smirk to his face, almost wanting to laugh at how ideal of a shinobi the Hyuuga was compared to him. Shigure was a tryer, and Daisuke was a forcer. But they were both leaders, and he would make sure that those around him knew it.

In the distance, Daisuke could see a handful of allied shinobi rushing in to aid them, and Kiho among them being a rather welcomed sight.

"Shigure!” He called out to the Hyuuga. "I'm sending you help! Tell anyone you don't need to get some buckets and help me with the fires!

As quick as his feet could carry him, Daisuke would intercept those from team one who came to their aid and dole out his own delegations.

"Any of you who can use Suiton, come with me, those fires are our number one concern. Those who can't meet with Shigure and escort the wounded back to safety, or find something to carry water with! Go, now!

Moving into a closer vacinity to the roaring flames, Daisuke would flash three quick hand seals and slam his hand into the ground. A crater soon formed before him, the earth crumbling as water soon filled the basin, ideal for any who could use the element, or at least use to help fight the fires.

Yamamoto Eri

Having escorted the children to safety from the medical tent, Eri turned to look at the Konoha girl that she had been working with. For a moment she warred with herself over the request to go elsewhere. Her skillset was certainly more useful to find the living, and she knew it, plus she wasn't exactly the best sort of person for emotional and moral support, still rather unused to such things. Though she felt that Yakitsukeru probably shouldn't be left alone, she eventually nodded slightly.

"Very well, try not to let things get to you too much.."
she murmured beneath her gas mask, shooting the genin a concerned look. Still, there was work to be done, and thus she took off towards the as of yet uncleared section of the village, each footstep providing her with more information of her surroundings and more details.

Arriving to the location of Team 2, it seems that they had received the area with the lions share of civilians and the epicenter of the disaster, the sheer destruction and number of bodies telling her that things were far worse in this part of the village. Unfortunately fire was not something that she could really deal with at this point, instead it would be more useful for her to continue to look for what scant survivors she might be able to find. At least with her mask she was able to handle the smoke much better than others.

Seeing a figure run over to her and the others coming up from Team 1, she registered him briefly as one of the sage apprentices and the Raikage's assistant, but also decidedly not his team's leader. He was certainly trying to act like one of the ranking shinobi, but Eri had neither the time nor inclination to pay it much mind. Not stopping even as he spoke, she was heading into the depth of the burning village, she wasn't suiton natured or possing of jutsu that could smother the flames, and so into the fires she would go, her attention on a familiar figure.

"You seem a bit worse for wear Azarea-san, perhaps I can be of assistance?" she offered as she touched down next to the redhead, feeling outwards for vibrations in the earth that would indicate anything useful, whether survivors or simply collapsing buildings.

It had somewhat escaped Eri that Azarea only knew her as 'Genbu-san' at this point, but the Yamamoto girl could be forgiven for that slip of thought.

While Sengo was just a shinobi to pay for his extra activities, this kind of work was nice. unlike the other aspect of there profession. Saving people always gave him the warm and fuzzies. Shigure was a fine leader too he was capable of rallying his troops. Sengo made sure to do his task with a smile, Who would you like to see when your life is in danger a scowl of a bright slightly dirty face. The children where happy too. That defiantly boosted moral over the victims.

Sengo went about his search. His ears and the Eagles eyes made for a good match up in the search of those who where trapped. He would catch the sound of distress ,Sengo and the eagles would move the rubble from the areas he pointed out with care keeping a ear open for shifts as he did. A broken, distraught Okingshi stood staring blankly at the shattered remnants of glass laying about the floor. His hands shook unconsciously, vibrating visibly as the world continued around him. Heavy breaths unsteadily caste through his gas-mask with a tint of green vapour, hanging there in front of him. This strange feeling. What was it. Although he lingered in the smoke-filled quarters paralysed by this unusual feeling; Okingshi's senses were heightened, hyper attuned to his surroundings. Outside screams of those crying in pain or begging for salvation, buildings collapsing under structural failure, his companions yelling orders to each other all coalesced into his eardrums like a choir of destruction.

His mind was far elsewhere though, locked in thought over what had just occurred. Sure he showed the children mercy, but what of their mother; he killed her in cold blood. The fifth ridden gloves slowly raised toward his mask as he contemplated the act. It was something he never experienced before, his first kill. The graphic images of the woman's last moments ran through his head over and over on repeat. 'Is this how it feels. Is this what I must do to him' Okingshi thought.

Remembering the words Ichi had told him few days prior to his journey to Kumogakure, Okingshi begun controlling his breaths until he could move again. Okingshi swung his muck soaked cloak around and begun staggering through the charred remains of the dwellings kitchen. Before he could leave however his eyes turned to meet the corpse of his victim. Okingshi grinned before continuing on his way.

His hulking cloak clad form lumbered toward the north where the others had moved to. He quickly found himself helping with removing corpses from buildings before preparing to enter one.

Shosuke deftly and calmly tends to his work, displaying an exceptional sense of calm amidst the chaos converging on his medical tent. At his signal, one of the village doctors—one of the only two trained for human treatment—separates from the work she’s doing to instead go speak to the hysterical woman that Kiho brought over. She carefully helps the woman sit down, rubbing a comforting hand over her back as the crying woman takes great heaving breaths between sobs. Shosuke would be able to hear snippets of their soft conversation as the doctor speaks in a low, soothing voice and the crying woman frantically stammers through an unintelligible recollection of what had happened. That the ninja had left her husband to die, it was all their fault, why didn’t they save him, they didn’t listen to her. The doctor gently tries to reason with her, but shock and grief had made the crying woman completely resistant to being comforted, or having anything explained to her. At the very least, having someone by her side and listening is keeping her still and quiet enough that she isn’t overly disturbing the others resting in the immediate vicinity.

As Shosuke finishes setting and splinting another broken limb, Murahira Sengo suddenly appears in the tent, a blanketed bundle in his arms: a small child, miraculously still alive despite the wreckage the Murahira had located him in. Sengo sets the unconscious child down on an empty cot before grabbing some buckets and disappearing back towards the village. Upon inspection, Shosuke will be able to discern that the child, maybe six or seven years old, is in fact breathing; but her right arm and some of her ribs are badly broken, blood is leaking from her nostrils, and a deep gash is freely bleeding above her right eye from where it seems she sustained a head injury—likely also the cause of her unconscious state.

Sengo, after delivering the child, a children’s book, and a morale-boosting message, returns to the village. He delivers buckets to Daisuke before rejoining Shigure in his work, the pair working quickly to maneuver through burning buildings and find any survivors within. Within a set of clustered homes they’re able to make quick work and locate another eleven survivors, in addition to another eleven dead; though at this point, the efforts they made to clear the smoke earlier in their efforts would be overcome by the sheer volume of fires in this section of the village, and both would be inhaling a good amount of smoke, experiencing labored breathing and tightness in the chest unless they find some way to protect themselves.

Daisuke, having made his large basin of water with which to put out fires, issues his orders… and seems to be studiously ignored by the group of shinobi, each having dedicated themselves to their own course of action without listening to the chuunin’s directive. He does have buckets, however, and with these tools at the ready, some of the civilians still being escorted from the village—those in well enough condition to move around—break off from their escorts to take up buckets and begin operating a mini-fire brigade, exhausted but willing to help save their homes when provided the tools to do so. Ten civilians join the effort, passing along buckets full of water to start attempting to extinguish the flames in the immediate vicinity.

Yakitsukeru deftly navigates through the epicenter of activity in order to enter the parts of the village further south that have already been cleared. Okingshi is right behind her, and between the two of them they begin retrieving corpses, Yaki sealing them away in tags while Okingshi merely removes them from the wreckage, leaving the bodies out in the open to be cataloged later.

Random Scenario Roll: Okingshi! While attempting to retrieve a gruesome pile of three corpses, there’s a distinct cracking sound above Okingshi’s head—the movement of the two genin in these fragile structures, made more fragile by the digging and movement from recovering the living, is causing the roof of the building to crumble inwards! A wooden beam splinters and slate roofing cascades to the ground. Both Okingshi and Yaki will suffer moderate injuries if swift action is not taken to protect themselves. [Random Event: Building Structural Collapse!]

Meanwhile, in the northern section, the exhausted but persistent Azarea finds herself joined by Eri, though Azarea is unlikely to recognize the teen girl without her massive puppet armor protecting her form. Between Azarea’s kikaichu droning steadily on, and Eri focusing through the cacophony of information ricoheting through her tremorsense, the two girls are able to locate another twenty-one civilians in the surrounding houses—twelve of them still alive. Whether the last group was simply unlucky, or these particular survivors had the quick thinking and action to properly protect themselves from rubble and smoke is not quite clear, but Shigure’s clone and Shuusuke are able to assist in escorting the survivors free of smoke and destruction and towards the northern village gate.

Koji, exhausted of his chakra but bolstered in spirit by Shigure’s encouraging words, rallies enough to be able to assist in helping survivors out of their suffocating environments. He’s able to be quite helpful even without ninjutsu, the strength he earned in his sword training coming in extremely handy when it comes to heaving over rocks and supporting the weight of injured adults.

Random Scenario Roll: Koji! In the moment of renewed spirit, however, disaster strikes: a rumble echoes from the northern cliff, a tremble that sends a fresh shower of small boulders and wet mud cascading directly towards where Azarea, Eri, Shuusuke, Shigure’s clone, and Koji are fighting to do their work. With her tremorsense Eri would be able to anticipate the event and notify others or prepare accordingly. All parties in the immediate vicinity will suffer moderate injuries if swift action is not taken to protect themselves! [Random Event: Landslide!]

Kiho and Hana, having arrived at the northern gate, do nothing to assist in the ongoing efforts, perhaps stunned into inaction by the volume of destruction and chaos within the heart of Kikai itself.

Eight rotation posting deadline: Sunday March 12, 20:00 HST
timezone converter

Another weeklong deadline, as the CEs are still ongoing! As always, please let me know if you need additional time.
We're very close to the end, now--ganbatte!!

"It'll be okay. Everything will be okay." Yaki muttered quietly to herself as she wrote another seal from her own blood, having had no ink on her that was quick enough to use for this level of expedience in collecting the dead. It was always possible that she found people that were still alive too though right? She had hope on that matter, but her practical mind told her it was a pipe dream that she should give up on. She apparently was not alone either as Okingshi, the creep he was, seemed to also be pulling corpses from the collapsing rubbles of the village.

She appreciated the effort, but he left her generally uncomfortable as he seemed... off to some degree. Still she left her snakes to scout out large sections of rubble while she worked on finding the ones that she could. Perhaps that was why she had needed to be bitten by one of her companion snakes, turning to see the beam falling she would roll to avoid it going over the rubble, but hopefully avoiding being crushed as she made way for a window to crash her way out of the building. Carrying all the tags she had used to stow the deceased away in the process, only re-entering once she was sure it was safe. Her pain a wake-up that she needed to move quicker. If there were survivors then she would need to find them soon, if there were not then... respect to the dead was the best she could give this town at this point.

Tragedy was a cruel master, one that was blind to all factors. Hand intertwined with death it had stolen so many with a laugh. Yakitsukeru continued to pay homage, this was the least she could, yet also the most.

Yamamoto Eri

Glancing at Azarea further, she realised the older redhead was on her last legs, and a handseal had an Iwa bunshin appear beside her, grasping at the Genin to help support her, because Eri herself would need her hands free to help. "There's twelve survivors beneath the rubble," she called out, gesturing in the direction of the living villagers, a single scroll emerging into her hands as she summoned her most useful puppet for this situation, Kumo-baa. The puppet leapt forward at a gesture, six arms working through the rubble as Eri used her senses and experience with underground structures to ensure that she didn't disrupt load bearing rubble.

Working alongside the longhaired boy to open a path to the survivors, Eri's attention turned to the sudden sensation of the earth shifting, eyes widening slightly behind her gasmask as she realised what she was feeling.

"Landslide!" she yelled, her clone grasping Azarea and both version of her leapt towards where Kojirou was standing over the survivors. Kumo-baa had paused in its excavation, the puppets arms clicking slightly as mechanisms within rapidly unlocked and started to unseal. By the time Eri, her rock clone, and Azarea were in the same spot as Kojirou and the survivors the puppet's long arms had grown longer, pushing up into the sky before coming back down to press against the ground. A latticework of panels slid out of seals to form an interconnected dome that would cover the three shinobi and their twelve civilians, chakra pouring through the strings and into the puppet which seemed to take on a rocky sheen as it was reinforced with Doton chakra.

Eri couldn't help but hope it was enough, there wasn't really much else she could do in this situation, she couldn't abandon those they were here to save. Though, perhaps the landslide might put out some of the fires...?

IF YOU ALWAYS WORRY ABOUT CRUSHING ANTS BENEATH YOUR FEET

The chuunin took in a deep breath as he eyed the flames, a small nod of his head as able bodied civilians began making their way over to him, grabbing buckets of both dirt and water, and dumping them on the raging fires. It was a moment of accomplishment that was incredibly short lived as Daisuke turned, hoping to see his allies coming to his aid, and seeing... No one.

His heart dropped in his chest at the realization. There were eleven of them, including himself, and not a single other person felt any priority to put out the fires? The civilians were more helpful to him now than fellow shinobi. Well, no matter. It was up to him, then.

Daisuke swallowed the fear creeping in at the corner of his mind, echoing a mantra in his mind to overcome his own obsticles. Let the others do as they can. Everyone here is doing the best they know how, though he would be lying to not admit that his pride may have been slightly wounded when no one heeded his orders.

"Kota,” Daisuke said, his eyes growing ablaze with determination. "I'm going to need your help. After I put out the fires, get inside those buildings and see if you can find any survivors. Like they always say, huh? Do for yourself what others cannot do for you.

The sage flashed a quick seal creating four shadow clones at his side. Each of them took off in different directions, wanting to fight the fires from several different angles. A spreaded front like this would likely be their best way to deal with the flames, considering he seemed to be the only one capable of utilizing suiton. Once Daisuke and his clones all found themselves in position they would each move in complete syncronization, weaving together three quick seals, and releasing a jetison of water in an attempt to quench the flames as quick as possible.

"shattered foundations".
"No matter how many people you may lose, you have no choice but to go on living."

ULTRA BIG-BALL SPIRALLING SPHERE

"Can someone offer some aid to Daisuke? We need to pull out the fires!" Shigure would shout. He didn't know if any members of team one had Water Release at their disposal, but even if they didn't have it, they could at least carry some buckets and get some of the fire under control. Meanwhile, he would continue to push forward with his efforts, trying to save as many people as he could. And with the aid of the Eagles, he managed to locate another eleven survivors. The smoke was getting worse, so they needed to move fast. At this point, he had merely placed a piece of cloth over his face, as an improvised mask of sorts, but that wasn't very helpful. Still, he wasn't going to allow himself to give up. And if people did help Daisuke, smoke would become less of a problem.

Meanwhile, while the clone continued to add the others, it noticed a landslide with its Byakugan by the time one of the Cloud kunoichi shouted that there was a landslide. "Stand back! I will take care of it. Continue the rescue efforts, and don't worry about me. I'm a shadow clone!" and with that being said, the clone would move at an incredible speed to try and intercept the landslide as far away from people as it could. While doing so, the clone would open its hand and focus a lot of its chakra on it. It may be the last technique the clone would be able to use, but going all out like that would at least ensure that he would be able to protect everyone from the debris.

"Chōōdama Rasengan!!" the energy sphere in his hand would continue to grow to giant proportions, considerably larger and bigger than Shigure's clone's own body. As it pushed the sphere towards the landslide, the shockwave would probably be able to take care of most of it already, but the sphere would continue to travel a distance of a hundred and twenty meters away from the village before exploding and potentially vaporizing every piece of debris that was coming their way. Moreover, there was a possibility that the shockwave would be able to take care of some of the fire nearby as well. So it was a multipurpose use of the powerful technique, as well as a testament of the might of the Hidden Leaf Village and its shinobi.

If the clone was able to remain after this, it was likely unable to use any other techniques, but if it poofed, it was fine. It had served a noble purpose in protecting everyone.

"So what if it seems hopeless? If it were me, I still wouldn't give up. Embrace your dreams. And, whatever happens, protect your honour as a Shinobi, for the price of freedom is steep."

Event
Shigure makes an improvised mask and continues the efforts with the eagles and Sengo. The clone uses Ultra Big-Ball Rasengan to try and get rid of all the landslide debris and perhaps some of the nearby fire.
