The day at the Academy was progressing like always; lesson after lesson. The students eagerly attended each class, absorbing knowledge and honing their skills. But as the day drew to a close, a peculiar situation arose. The last class for the day had begun, yet the teacher was nowhere to be seen.
[break][break]
Touwa, a diligent and serious young boy from the Tokonatsu clan, anxiously waited for the arrival of the teacher. Thoughts started creeping into his mind, questioning the reason behind the teacher's absence. Did the class get canceled? If so, why wasn't it announced beforehand? Touwa couldn't fathom the idea of wasting the precious time of the budding students.
[break][break]
Minutes ticked by, five turning into ten, and still, there was no sign of the teacher. The classroom was filled with a mix of restlessness and confusion. Some students chatted among themselves, speculating about what could be happening, while others nervously glanced at the clock, realizing that their precious time was slipping away. Touwa being one of them. Touwa's curiosity and impatience intensified, and he couldn't help but wonder about the teacher's whereabouts. Was there an emergency? Or perhaps the teacher had forgotten about the class altogether?
[break][break]
As the clock continued to tick, Touwa's mind raced with various possibilities. He considered approaching a class representative or asking his classmates for any information. But before he could take any action, the door to the classroom swung open. Finally.

Akio had been so engrossed in his morning meditation that he had lost track of time, and now he found himself with mud caked halfway up his lower leg from the trek back through the jungle. Now that he’d finally arrived at the Academy the young sage apprentice hurriedly made his way through the empty hallways towards the academy classroom. His usually composed demeanor was slightly flustered as he realized he was running late to substitute for one of the academy teachers. This was supposed to be a simple gig to make some money, but it was honestly just dawning on him as he bolted through the halls that he’d never really taught children before.

Pushing open the door, Akio's dark eyes widened a bit as he took in the scene before him—a classroom filled with impatient children, all awaiting their substitute teacher to arrive.. Their youthful energy permeated the air, and the chatter gradually subsided as their gazes turned towards him, some with curiosity, others with impatience. The young sage apprentice would visually wince when he saw the clock at the front of the room, he was a little over 10 minutes late, and he was incredibly lucky that none of them had gone to talk to someone that actually worked at the school.

Akio scratched the back of his head, his face flushing with embarrassment. "Whoopsie daisy, sorry 'bout that kiddos!" he exclaimed with a lighthearted chuckle as he made his way down the center walkway between the desks. "Seems like I got a little carried away with my badass shinobi training. But don't worry, your substitute teacher is here now, ready to rock and roll!" The mud stains on his butt would tell a much more honest story about the type of training he was doing, but hopefully children in the academy wouldn’t pick up on such subtle clues.

The children's eyes seemed to follow Akio to the front; although he was a little out of his element, most of the children were aware that he wouldn’t be here if the village didn’t think he was qualified. The other children on the other hand were whispering about their substitute teacher and whether he was even qualified to teach them. Akio would unceremoniously start to wipe the mud from the bottoms of his feet on the teacher’s desk in the front as he finally addressed the class about the lesson he was filling in for, "I’m glad most of you guys actually stuck around. Uhh… Today, we're diving headfirst into the Bunshin no Jutsu.”

"I’m sure most of you guys and gals have seen it before, it’s a really basic technique and it looks a little something like this,” Akio would make a couple quick handsigns while scraping his foot against the desk and with a simple utilization of the Bunshin no Jutsu [Clone Technique] an illusion of himself would appear directly behind him looking right at the class, sharing all the mud stains and imperfections that the original had. Once the clone had materialized though Akio would turn and walk through the illusion to kinda show that the thing had no real substance to it before tossing a question to the class, "These bloody things don’t have any physical substance to them and they don’t cast a shadow, so a trained shinobi can pick them out pretty easily on the battlefield. So, why do we consider them such a fundamental technique that you guys need to learn?”

The question itself was something that some of the children probably hadn’t thought about before, some of these fundamental techniques weren’t really utilized much outside of the classroom unless a shinobi was particularly clever. Sure, the standard Bunshin could assist in subterfuge, but their true purpose in Akio’s mind was a bit broader. Projecting chakra outwards to create anything was a fundamental concept that was broadly utilized in nearly every ninjutsu, genjutsu, fuuinjutsu, and heck even some taijutsu. Regardless the question itself was a little out there, and no hands raised immediately to answer.

Touwa's eyes widened as the substitute teacher barged into the classroom, flustered and covered in mud. He watched with a mix of curiosity and skepticism as the young sage apprentice clumsily made his way to the front of the class. The initial annoyance and impatience that had filled the room seemed to dissipate, replaced by a sense of intrigue and uncertainty. Who was this substitute teacher, and what kind of lesson would he provide?
[break][break]
As Akio wiped the mud off his feet on the teacher's desk, Touwa couldn't help but feel a tinge of disapproval. The act seemed unprofessional, and Touwa valued discipline and respect in an educational setting. Nevertheless, he was willing to give the substitute teacher a chance.
[break][break]
Touwa listened attentively as Akio introduced the lesson on Bunshin no Jutsu, the Clone Technique. It was a technique that Touwa was familiar with, having studied it in previous classes. However, he had never questioned its significance beyond its basic applications. Akio's question about the technique's fundamental nature intrigued Touwa, and he found himself pondering the answer.
[break][break]
After a moment of hesitation, Touwa raised his hand, his serious gaze fixed on the substitute teacher. He spoke with a calm and measured voice, "Sensei, I believe the Bunshin no Jutsu is considered fundamental because it teaches us the core principles of chakra control and manipulation. It requires us to mold our chakra and project it outward to create an illusionary clone. Mastering this technique lays the foundation for more complex jutsu that rely on precise chakra control, such as genjutsu and ninjutsu. It also trains our focus, concentration, and ability to multitask. Additionally, the Bunshin no Jutsu serves as a stepping stone for learning advanced techniques like the Henge no Jutsu and the Kage Bunshin no Jutsu. By understanding the fundamentals of this technique, we can better grasp the principles behind more advanced jutsu and become more versatile shinobi."
[break][break]
Touwa lowered his hand, waiting for the substitute teacher's response. He hoped his answer had reflected his dedication and understanding of the subject matter, even if he had never really attempted to try the jutsu practically.

Akio's attention was immediately drawn to Touwa's thoughtful expression, and he swiftly pointed at the student as a sign to speak. As Touwa began to answer, Akio's grin widened, his eyes sparkling with enthusiasm. He nodded vigorously, impressed by the student's understanding. "Ding! Ding! Ding! You've hit the nail on the head, kid. The bunshin is all about chakra control and projecting it outward. It's like the ABCs of ninjutsu and genjutsu. Once you master that concept, you can use the concept to create fireballs, powerful genjutsu, or even realistic clones!"

Dispelling his own bunshin without so much as a flick of his wrist, Akio stepped forward, patting Touwa's desk playfully. "But hey, the question I threw at you guys was also a bit of a misdirection. It was meant to trick you into thinking about the bigger picture. When you have a sharp mind and a solid team, being able to conjure some clones on the fly can still confuse an enemy when the adrenaline is pumping. It may not buy you a ton of time or completely throw off an enemy, but that split-second hesitation can be a real game-changer, especially when you're working with a team of other shinobi."

Stepping away from Touwa's desk, a smile spread across Akio’s face as he finally addressed the whole classroom. "Alright, now that we've cleared that up, I bet you're all itching to try out the jutsu. I mean, let's face it, the practical stuff is always more fun, right?" His eyes lit up a little bit as he continued, "So here's the deal. You're gonna need to make three hand signs, alright: ram, snake, tiger." Akio proceeded to demonstrate each handsign slowly, holding each one for an elongated pause to ensure the students could observe and comprehend the movements.

After completing the final handsign, Akio paused briefly before continuing his explanation. "While you're making those hand signs, you wanna focus your chakra. I personally imagine gathering it at my core, and then projecting it to the spot where I want my clone to appear. Now, in order to perform the jutsu, you'll need to find a comfortable position with enough space around you for your clone. So go ahead, spread out, and most likely stand up. Let's start with creating just one clone for now. Once you've mastered that in this class, you can move on to creating more than one clone."

Even after he explained the hand signs and the technique, Akio couldn't resist demonstrating the technique himself. He smoothly performed the sequence of hand signs again, allowing a clone to materialize next to him. The clone itself would also act as a teaching aid this time, as the illusion slowly went through each handsign on repeat as the students prepared to try the jutsu themselves.

"Now, give it a shot. If you have any questions feel free to ask. Gathering and projecting chakra feels a little different to everyone, so just get a feel for what’s going on inside your body." Akio encouraged, his voice filled with excitement. "Remember, practice makes perfect, and there's no rush. Take your time, there's no shame if you don't get it figured out by the time you finish class today. You want this feeling of gathering and projecting chakra to be second nature once you're done."

With a final nod, Akio stepped back, ready to observe and assist the students as they embarked on their journey to master the bunshin no jutsu.

Touwa took a deep breath, his determination fueling his attempt at the Bunshin no Jutsu. He stood up from his desk, making sure he had enough space around him. With Akio's instructions echoing in his mind, he began to mimic the hand signs—ram, snake, tiger—slowly and precisely. He tried to focus his chakra, imagining it gathering at his core and projecting it outward.
[break][break]
However, as Touwa attempted to create the clone, nothing happened. No illusionary figure materialized beside him. He frowned, feeling a twinge of disappointment and frustration. He had expected it to work on his first try, given his understanding of the technique. Doubt started to creep into his mind. Did he lack the necessary skill? Was he not concentrating enough?
[break][break]
Touwa glanced around the classroom, noticing that some of his classmates were already successful in creating their clones. He felt a pang of envy, but he also reminded himself that everyone progressed at their own pace. He took a moment to recompose himself and refocus his thoughts.
[break][break]
Taking a step back, Touwa decided to try again. He repeated the hand signs, this time trying to be more mindful of his chakra flow. He concentrated harder, imagining the chakra gathering and projecting as instructed. But once again, his attempt yielded no results.
[break][break]
Touwa's gaze flickered to Akio, who was attentively observing the class. Feeling a sense of embarrassment, he hesitated for a moment, unsure if he should ask for assistance. But then he reminded himself of Akio's words—there was no shame in struggling or not getting it right away.
[break][break]
Summoning his courage, Touwa raised his hand, catching Akio's attention. "Sensei, I seem to be having trouble with the technique. I've followed the hand signs and focused my chakra, but I can't seem to create a clone. Is there something I might be missing or doing wrong?"

Akio's scanned the room as some students were quick to find success. Eventually his gaze found its way back to Touwa as he noticed the student's determined expression and the slight hint of disappointment on his face. He definitely understood the frustration that could arise when a technique didn't work as expected, he wasn’t particularly skilled with ninjutsu or genjutsu either so it took him quite a while as a child before he got a rudimentary grasp of the Bunchin. He admired Touwa's willingness to seek guidance though, that definitely wasn’t something he would have done as a student, he was way too stubborn.

Akio approached Touwa, almost jumping at the opportunity to listen to the young student’s issue, but once the student explained the issue they were having Akio’s face scrunched up as he tried to recall the things his teachers used to say in the day. Maybe his explanation was a little too simple for a student that was like him and struggled with ninjutsu or chakra control.

"Huh, hmmm…,” he’d ponder a bit and lean against the edge of Touwa's desk before trying his best to offer a few insights, "First, make sure your hand signs are spot on. Take a breath and go through the sequence again—ram, snake, tiger. Make sure each handsign is deliberate and feel the flow of your chakra as you form them. Sometimes a small adjustment or extra focus on the hand signs can make a difference."

Akio glanced around the classroom, checking on the progress of the other students before returning his attention to Touwa. "Now, remember that the bunshin technique requires you to mold and project your chakra outward. That’s the hardest part about the technique, and honestly the largest difference between a jutsu like this and something like henge. Maybe it will help to visualize the clone you’re creating. Having an image of what you want to create, project your chakra out and try to concentrate wholly on the image in your mind’s eye."

The sage apprentice reached out, placing a supportive hand on Touwa's shoulder. "But most importantly, don't let frustration cloud your mind. It can tilt you and make chakra control a bit more tumultuous.” Akio paused for a moment, meeting Touwa's eyes with a reassuring gaze and a simple smile. "Now, how about we give it another shot together? I'll just observe and we can work through any obstacles together, and I'll do my best to help you get that clone up and running. Deal?"

With a warm smile, Akio awaited Touwa's response, ready to provide any necessary guidance and support to help the determined student overcome the hurdles and unlock the potential of the bunshin no jutsu.

Touwa felt a surge of determination through him as Akio approached and offered his guidance. He straightened his back, ready to give it another shot. He took a deep breath and focused on his hand signs—ram, snake, tiger. Each movement was deliberate, each symbol etched in his mind. As he formed the final sign, he could feel his chakra responding, flowing in sync with his motions.
[break][break]
With his chakra focused, Touwa visualized the clone he wanted to create. He pictured an exact replica of himself, standing confidently beside him. He projected his chakra outward, trying to shape it into the form of the clone. A tingling sensation spread throughout his body, a sign that he was on the right track.
[break][break]
Suddenly, Touwa's vision blurred for a moment, and when he opened his eyes, he found himself staring at a bizarre-looking clone. It had an elongated torso, disproportionate limbs, and an oddly misshapen head. It was far from the perfect replication he had imagined, but it was undeniably a clone—a weird one, but a clone nonetheless.
[break][break]
Touwa couldn't help but chuckle at the sight. Even though he tried to keep his expressions neutral most of the time, especially in front of those older than him. It wasn't the result he had hoped for, but it was progress nonetheless. He turned to Akio, his eyes shining with excitement and curiosity. "Sensei, I managed to create a clone, but it looks... well, quite weird. What do you think went wrong? And how can I improve the technique to create a more accurate and stable clone? And how do I dispel… this?" He pointed at the amusing-looking thing.
[break][break]
Touwa's voice was filled with determination, eager to learn from his mistakes.

Akio couldn't help but burst into laughter almost as soon as he saw Touwa's oddball clone standing beside him. It had been quite some time since he’d been an Academy student, so he almost completely forgot what a failed clone could look like. The substitute teacher tried to stifle his amusement but failed miserably, his laughter caused a few of the other kid’s heads to turn and laugh a little bit at Touwa’s expense. It was an unexpected twist, and the sight of the peculiar-looking clone was undeniably comical.

"That's certainly one way to do the bunshin technique!" Akio managed to wheeze out through his laughter, struggling to regain his composure. "I have to admit, It’s been a while since I’ve seen a clone quite like that."

He paused for a moment, taking a deep breath and wiping the tears that had started to form. While Akio pondered the best answer to Touwa's questions he scratched the back of his head, and a bemused expression slowly took over his face as he seriously considered the kid's questions, "To be honest it’s difficult to tell whether the issue was the control of the chakra, not enough chakra, or an issue with the visualization. Luckily it's usually not the latter though."

Akio gestured toward the clone, trying to hold back a smile and create an adequate explanation, "Maybe try stabilizing the chakra you’ve gathered before projecting it. Imagine your chakra like a pool of water, and gathering it up leaves ripples in it. Let the ripples stop before projecting it. I think what we’re seeing are those ripples or imperfections in the clone if that makes sense." The young sage apprentice would keep scratching the back of his head as he did his best to convey how chakra felt, "Hopefully that makes sense, that’s just kinda how the chakra feels for me when I use a jutsu. The other option is to just try throwing more chakra at the problem, and hope you toss enough chakra at it to hide the imperfections.”

As for dispelling the unique creation, Akio would finally stop scratching his head and address the class much more loudly to get everyone’s attention, "So, dispelling a clone should be easier than creating it. Once it’s done with whatever purpose you had for it, you guys should be able to just think about dispersing it. Otherwise it’ll just lose its form when it gets hit or comes in contact with something."

He couldn't help but chuckle once more at the sight of Touwa's clone. Akio was a little out of his element, and even trying to play teacher he realized that a lot of how he did jutsu was by feel, he didn't particularly remember enough of the specifics from when he was in the Academy. "As for the specifics, you might just need to experiment a little bit to figure out the best approach for you. If steadying your chakra doesn’t work, try using more of it. You’re doing better than my first day learning the bunshin technique though, I didn’t even get an image to form my first time.”

The young sage apprentice would radiate with a warm expression as he encouraged the young shinobi, "Let’s give this one more go together, and then i might have to help some of the other kids."

Touwa took a deep breath, determined to improve his technique and create a more accurate clone this time. He listened attentively to Akio's advice, focusing on stabilizing his chakra before projecting it. The analogy of the pool of water resonated with him, and he visualized his chakra settling down, becoming calm and undisturbed.
[break][break]
With renewed confidence, Touwa began to gather his chakra once again. This time, he paid extra attention to the ripples and fluctuations within his chakra, patiently waiting for them to subside. He could feel the energy becoming more steady and controlled, ready to be shaped into a clone.
[break][break]
Keeping the image of a perfect replica in his mind, Touwa projected his chakra outward. He meticulously guided the flow of energy, forming the hand signs—ram, snake, tiger—with precision. As he completed the final sign, he could sense the synchronization between his chakra and the movements of his hands.
[break][break]
This time, there were no blurs or distortions in Touwa's vision. When he opened his eyes, he saw a clone standing beside him, a near-perfect replication of himself. The clone had the same posture, the same expression of determination on its face. Touwa couldn't help but smile with satisfaction.
[break][break]
Touwa, despite his excitement, maintained a calm and composed demeanor as he turned to Akio.
[break][break]
"Sensei, I think I did it," Touwa said, his voice steady and composed. "Your advice on stabilizing the chakra made a noticeable difference. The analogy of the pool of water helped me visualize the process better. Thank you."
[break][break]
With their conversation potentially coming to a close, Touwa took a moment to appreciate the progress he had made, before dispelling his clone. To let the results sit in further Touwa repeated the process a few more times; creating and dispelling the clone.

Akio almost couldn't contain his excitement as he witnessed Touwa's incredible progress in refining the Bunshin technique. The kid had made remarkable strides within a single class, creating a clone that was almost flawless. Akio's face lit up with a wide grin as he gave Touwa an enthusiastic thumbs up.

"Hell yeah, you nailed it!" Akio exclaimed, unable to contain his enthusiasm. "You've really grasped the fundamentals. Now it's all about speed. If you want to pull this off in a real fight, you’re gonna have to learn to build up that chakra quickly and execute the jutsu in a split second. So just set that as your goal for now."

As Touwa continued to practice, Akio surveyed the classroom, spotting a few students who were still struggling with the technique. Their frustrated expressions didn't go unnoticed, and without much fanfare he’d tap the desk and address Touwa who had gotten a majority of his attention in this class, "Alright, just keep going at it! I gotta help some other kids now."

Akio made his way to the group of struggling students, offering practical advice, demonstrating the hand signs, and giving them all a lot of the same advice that he’d already given Touwa. He’d call out to some of the other students struggling since he couldn’t give them all individual instruction, "Remember, we're all in this together," Akio emphasized, "Don't get discouraged if it doesn't click right away. If you’re struggling to get the jutsu on your own, don’t be afraid to ask your fellow students for advice."

As the classroom buzzed with an incredible energy, Akio reveled in the gradual improvement of each student. He moved from one group to another, providing guidance, encouragement, and a dose of his infectious enthusiasm. The atmosphere was electric, with the students pushing themselves to new heights. With the end of the class approaching, Akio couldn't help but feel a sense of pride. Nearly every student he had interacted with had made noticeable progress. It was a testament to their dedication and his belief in their potential.

"Awesome work, everyone!" Akio exclaimed, clapping his hands together. "You've all shown incredible growth today. Keep practicing, keep pushing, and heck maybe one of you guys wll be the next kick-ass shinobi substitute teaching a class like this.!"

As the class drew to a close, Touwa couldn't help but feel a sense of tranquility wash over him. The progress he had made brought him a deep sense of satisfaction, but his thoughts extended beyond his own accomplishments.
[break][break]
Looking around the room, Touwa's gaze shifted to the window, where he caught a glimpse of a small bird perched on a branch. A gentle smile graced his lips as he observed its delicate movements and listened to the melodic chirping that filled the air. The natural world held a profound beauty and tranquility that he found solace in.
[break][break]
Touwa observed his classmates with a calm and empathetic gaze. While their struggles were evident, he couldn't help but feel a stronger connection to the serene balance of nature.
[break][break]
Akio's words echoed in his mind, but Touwa couldn't help but feel a pang of detachment from the human world. While he recognized the importance of unity and support, his true affinity lay in the quiet wisdom of the natural world, as per the teachings of the Tokonatsu clan. It was there that he found a deeper understanding of his own purpose.
[break][break]
At the signal of the class ending, Touwa did the mandatory bow with the thank you for the class sentence with the rest of the children.
[break][break]
As he prepared to leave the classroom, Touwa made a silent promise to himself. He would continue to practice diligently, not only to refine his skills but also to honor the delicate balance of the environment.
[break][break]
With a serene and poised demeanor, Touwa walked out of the classroom, his steps filled with quiet resolve. He knew that the path to becoming a proper shinobi encompassed more than just personal growth—it also meant protecting the fragile beauty of the natural world.

As the bunshin class came to an end, Akio couldn't help but feel a sense of pride and satisfaction at how well the class had gone. Despite his initial reservations about his own ninjutsu skills compared to other chuunin-level shinobi, he had managed to create an engaging and effective learning environment for the students. It was a testament to his growth and development since his days in the academy.

As the students packed up their belongings and started leaving the classroom, Akio called out to them one last time, his voice filled with warmth and encouragement. "Great job, everyone! You've shown tremendous progress today. Keep practicing and honing your skills, and I have no doubt that each and every one of you will become splendid shinobi one day!"

He watched with a smile as the students gathered their things and filed out of the classroom, their chatter and laughter filling the air. It was a satisfying sight, knowing that he had played a part in their development and had helped ignite their passion for becoming shinobi.

As the last student left, Akio swiftly gathered his own belongings, making sure to leave the classroom neat and organized. He had little time to spare as he needed to rush to the next class, a taijutsu session that he was scheduled to teach. It was a subject he felt much more confident and capable in, and he was eager to share his knowledge and expertise with the students.

Hastening his steps, Akio quickly made his way to the taijutsu training area, his mind already buzzing with ideas and plans for the upcoming class. He wanted to create an atmosphere that fostered both discipline and creativity, allowing the students to explore their own unique fighting styles while honing their physical abilities.
