Akirei couldn't believe his eyes. What was that again? A kekkei genkai, a hijutsu, or just a deadly taijutsu? Whatever it was, it was a ruthless and lethal attack. Surprisingly, he found himself not disgusted but rather acknowledging its ruthless efficiency. There was no point showing mercy to a bandit anyway. A smirk briefly crossed his face, only to be quickly erased as he returned to his more conventional demeanour. Well, being ruthless wasn't exactly a trait people openly admired after all.

"Yes." He nodded at Sadako's request. He didn't bring a rope with him, so he just "borrowed” from the bandits instead. Turned out they had a lot of them, might have been intended for less-than-honourable purposes, but karma had struck them in return. "May I?" Akirei asked with a touch of sarcasm. As he bound the bandits, part of him hoped for retaliation, envisioning a swift resolution that would save him from prolonged dealings with the criminals.

To ensure the bandits weren't scheming anything behind their backs, he crafted an additional rope from papers to augment the existing one. These paper strands, lighter yet stronger, were significantly reinforced by his chakra. The enhanced paper rope was designed to resist cutting by normal knives or sharp objects. Akirei had dedicated considerable effort to mastering this advanced form of paper manipulation, attempting to elevate his paper ability to the next level and setting himself apart from other Susano.

"If you don't like something, change it. If you can't change it, you just aren't strong enough.” Akirei repeated these words to himself in his mind, a constant reminder not to lose sight of his goals, no matter what. After securing the bandits with a strongly twisted rope that almost broke their wrist, he turned to Sadako for directions, uncertain about their next steps. "Hmm… Sadako-san, what should we do next?"

Akirei was quick and deft with his hands, tying up the surviving bandits with their own rope before reinforcing the bindings with more of his papercraft techniques. Sadako took the time to slow her breathing, center herself—she let go of the Devil Bringer, yellow chakra wisping away from her arm like so much smoke in the wind. The bandits were handled, but the problem remained that they were unconscious, and they still had a couple of kilometers to travel before they reached the steel mill. Both were hit hard enough that it seemed unlikely they would wake up on their own anytime soon, and regardless Sadako didn’t feel like dealing with a couple of struggling, mouthy bandits for the rest of the journey. "I can carry one for sure,” she said, her brow creasing into a frown. It wasn’t a question of if she was strong enough to carry two adult people, but rather how she would manage it logistically—she was big for her age, sure, but a fifteen-year-old girl’s shoulders could only get so broad. "Lemme take the guy. I think… can you do a clone, or something? Shadow clone, paper clone, anything like that? That’ll free up an extra pair of hands to carry the woman, and then we won’t be totally defenseless if anything else happens.” That she couldn’t make shadow clones herself yet was a sticking point to her pride—they would definitely be useful once she got a handle on them, but so much of her focus lately had been dedicated to refining the Devil Bringer that her broader ninjutsu studies had fallen by the wayside. She lifted the unconscious man into a fireman’s carry and waited for Akirei to get himself situated before leading them back towards the path to the mill—where thankfully no further interruptions would delay them from completing their mission.

It intrigued Akirei, like a devil's touch. However, he refrained from asking about it, recognizing that the specific jutsu didn't matter as long as it served their team. He shifted his attention back to the bandits, grinning briefly before it faded when Sadako proposed carrying the unconscious troublemakers. "Really?" Internally, he questioned the idea but outwardly nodded gracefully, understanding it was their only viable option at the moment.

A shadow clone was beyond his current abilities, but a paper clone? Absolutely. "Paper Clone!" A white puff appeared and dissipated, revealing another Akirei. Although not as strong as a shadow clone, the paper clone served its purpose well. Akirei had also honed his origami skills so greatly that it made his paper more durable and strong. This of course can also be applied to his paper jutsu, which ultimately resulted in a stronger paper clone, literally.

As the paper clone dragged the unconscious bandit along the journey, the real Akirei hoped they would awaken and attempt retaliation. When that moment arrived, he was prepared to strike them down or, at the very least, leave them with enough wounds to discourage further resistance. Fortunately, their journey proceeded without any interruptions. They reached the location, loaded materials from the mill while the clone kept watch over the bandits. Before long, they resumed their departure, following Sadako's lead.

Paper clones, nice. Sadako was glad she’d asked—she maybe could have handled both bandits if she’d tried, but she’d be exhausting herself in the process, and they still had the whole return trip to Amegakure to make. She felt weirdly invigorated by the whole experience; Akirei was a good kid, and she felt like they worked pretty well together, all things considered. Maybe this teamwork thing wasn’t such complete bullshit after all. Or maybe Junichi was just rubbing off on her. Either way, this was the smoothest mission experience she’d had to date, and she was grateful for it. Between her and the paper clone they were able to get the unconscious bandits to the steel mill; once they got there, the foreman was predictably annoyed that any such criminals had their eye on his place of work, but he was more than willing and able to take the two bandits into custody and notify the local authorities. With their burden unloaded, Sadako made sure they got all their materials loaded up into their cart, and once it was hitched up to a huge draft horse supplied by the mill they were able to begin their journey back to Amegakure. It was an uneventful return journey, and once the great bridge and the village gates were in sight, Sadako let her guard down enough to begin talking amicably with Akirei, far more friendly than she had been at the jump; before long she was asking him about his training routines and giving him unsolicited advice about his macros, telling him in no uncertain terms exactly how much protein he needed to eat if he wanted to bulk up as he got older. The supplies were safely delivered, and from there all they had to do was make their mission report: only minor issues, deftly handled, and without a single interpersonal conflict in sight. [exit.]
