He didn't let his guard down, keeping his tone polite but tinged with a touch of elitism, as if he were graciously deigning to inquire about the unfortunate situation. Touwa was always cautious with strangers, especially in such precarious circumstances.

"Excuse me, but it seems you've found yourself in a rather precarious situation. Mind telling me what happened? And if you're from some nearby settlement, I could either help you get back or go there and get more help." Touwa continued, his voice carrying a hint of impatience. Despite his sarcasm, he genuinely wanted to assess the situation and determine whether the injured person posed a threat or could be of assistance.

As the daylight dwindled, Touwa's sense of urgency grew. "I'm afraid we don't have all day, you see," he added, a subtle reminder of the encroaching darkness. Survival in the jungle required more than just bravado; it demanded strategic thinking and calculated risks. As he waited for a response, Touwa remained on high alert, ready to react swiftly to any sign of danger.

The longer Touwa looked at the strange man the more he was able to make out details of him. Built well enough to take care of himself in a jungle with scars upon his body to prove it. His dark hair was unkept and was that of someone who had been in these jungles for quite some time his clothing ragged and tattered. There was even a faint stench about him that lingered behind the smell of blood that covered his body. He looked like someone who had been in a difficult battle recently though what it was was unknown at this current moment. [break][break]

When Touwa spoke to the man he would turn his head to face Touwa and his silver-grey eyes looked almost glazed over. Opening his mouth a dried craggily deep voice would ask, "Toya? Why are you here?" He raises a shaky hand out to Touwa as if trying to feel the boy he is hallucinating in his vision. "You need to get moving it isn't safe here," he would say coughing between every other word as occasionally blood would escape his mouth as he coughed. [break][break]

The man was beyond saving, but he was clinging to life as best as he could. His extended hand would fall back to his side before his other arm would point toward the cave up ahead. "I've set up camp in there get what you need to escape and tell your mother I'm sorry," A single tear escaped the man's eyes as it became apparent the man had accepted his demise and was going to use the last of his strength to make sure his son made it out of the jungle alive. His hand would drop and his breathing would practically stop before he said his final words, "I'm just gonna take a quick nap." After a few seconds of silence, his body would become lifeless leaving behind a corpse of a man.[break][break]

Continuing down the path and into the cave Touwa would find themselves a small camp of a few things; a mortal and pestle, some flint, a ton of edible mushrooms, an empty canteen, and a rubber duck wearing a scarf. Going deeper into the cave Touwa would find it curved much like the one that led to the crocodiles from before, but this time didn't have such a dangerous exit point. Instead, it leads to another flower field with of course more choices. [break][break]

To the north and south, both paths looked very similar in natural states. Yet there was something eerie coming from both paths, one more than the other, and Touwa could tell danger lurked behind both paths. While the east path didn't have this sense of danger to it what it did have was a huge fog cloud covering its path which was in itself a danger as it meant Touwa had no idea what could be beyond it. None of the options were ideal, but a choice was needed especially even more so now that it was starting to get dark and meant the creatures of the night were beginning to stir.[break][break]

Touwa stood there, absorbing the scene before him. As the injured man's final breath left him, Touwa couldn't help but feel a pang of empathy for the stranger's plight. Despite his initial skepticism, there was a sense of nobility in the man's final act of ensuring his son's safety.

Quickly, Touwa scanned the makeshift camp, taking note of the items left behind. The mortar and pestle could prove useful for grinding herbs or preparing medicines. The flint could be handy for starting a fire, while the mushrooms offered a potential source of sustenance. The rubber duck with the scarf, though seemingly out of place, sparked a brief moment of curiosity in Touwa's mind, but he pushed it aside for now, focusing on the more pressing matters at hand.

After his quick assessment of the items, Touwa eyed the mushrooms thoughtfully, weighing the risks against the gnawing hunger in his stomach. With a shrug, he decided to take his chances and gather a handful of the fungi, figuring that at worst, they might cause a bit of indigestion. As he chewed on the earthy morsels, he found them surprisingly palatable, their mild flavor doing little to mask the underlying desperation of his situation.

With his hunger temporarily sated, Touwa picked the items and gathered them in his cloak which he turned into a makeship bag, Touwa headed out of the cave.

The three paths stretched out before him, each shrouded in its veil of uncertainty. The sense of danger emanating from the north and south paths was palpable, sending a chill down Touwa's spine. Yet, the fog cloaking the eastern path presented its own set of dangers. Nonetheless, Touwa turned his attention to the fog-shrouded path to the east. Though the unknown beyond the mist was daunting, he couldn't shake the feeling that it held the best chance of leading him to safety. Taking a deep breath to steel his nerves, he plunged into the thick haze.

Eating the mushrooms doesn't do much to fill Touwa up, but it does satiate him for the time being. Could prove useful in a pinch down the line so having them with him wasn't the worst thing for sustenance. Especially since he didn't know how easily it would be to come across a safe food source in this jungle. Heading into the fog Touwa would find it almost impossible to see very far in front of him, but keeping his wits about himself he can keep himself from walking in circles. While in the fog though a sudden noise would catch his attention a roar in the distance. It wasn't nearby, but it did mean there was a creature hunting and he would need to be careful to not run into them now.[break][break]

Making it out of the fog Touwa would find themselves in the familiar sight of a rather narrow pathway though this time with low-hanging tree branches. These branches were a bit odd though as they kinda swooped down and back up into the trees instead of sticking out from the trunk of the trees. It was a strange sight, but the deeper he went through the pathway he would keep looking over his shoulder as he kept sensing movement. It wasn't until one of these branches looked like it was slithering did Touwa realized he walked into a snake's nest. Due to the setting sun, not all the snakes were awake yet, but a few were slithering their way towards Touwa ready to make a snack out of him.[break][break]

As Touwa faced the slithering snakes, his heart raced with fear. Realistically, he had only one option: push past them. Some snakes would not stop him. Knowing full well that he couldn't freeze, he quickly searched his surroundings for escape routes or distractions. Touwa quickly climbed a nearby tree with low branches, hoping to evade the advancing serpents to the best of his ability. Perched in the foliage, he decided to use a jutsu he had learned at the Academy. He performed the necessary handseals and focused his chakra to execute the Replacement Jutsu and swap his place with a broken-off branch he had spotted on another tree in front of him.

Touwa vanished in a blur, leaving behind only a decoy branch. The confused snakes at the same moment would be hissing at the decoy, if they decided to do so, and Touwa would appear once again about ten meters away. The snakes were unlikely to give up so easily, as dark was typically when they were awake, according to Touwa's lectures at the Academy. He needed to be as quiet as possible so that the rest of them didn't wake up until he was gone.

Trying to stay low, he moved silently to a rather sturdy vine he had spotted nearby. Getting a few stretched here and there. Once near the vine Touwa grabbed it and decided to swing over to increase his distance as much as possible while avoiding anything on the ground. When he landed on the next parchment, he would repeat the Replacement Jutsu to increase his distance as much as possible. This was very taxing on his already depleted chakra, but he'd rather be tired than dead.

Tadashi didn't like this each danger his son faced just made him want to reach out and help the poor buy, but he couldn't help and be proud of him all the same too. He was facing each obstacle to the best of his abilities and though he may have fled a few of the more dangerous creatures it still showed he had a strong mind on when to flee and when to fight. The appearance of the man did shock him and give him pause but since he passed it wasn't like it was something Tadashi had to worry too much about. He would make a mental note to make sure and find out who the man's family was and give them their condolences later. [break][break]

As for the current obstacle of the many deadly snakes, Touwa took a rather good move of taking the high ground. Sure the snakes could climb trees themselves but by using the high ground to keep away from their lower nests he guaranteed his safety. They were very guarded of their eggs and stayed close to the ground despite wanting to also approach and strike Touwa. Following his every movement as the sun slowly descended and more and more snakes began to stir. Using the substitution jutsu was both a boon and a bane for the boy. It helped him get across the trees quite quickly, but the poof of smoke and the sudden appearance of logs in the trees that would soon fall to the ground below would startler some snakes and even awaken some others. They would hiss angrily but Touwa was fast enough to get away before they made haste to chase. Going back down this path would be dangerous.[break][break]

The next areas were rather quiet overall only giving off the sound of the creek that was trickling through. A good source of water should Touwa need it though the silence of the area around him was disturbed by a roar. From what Touwa could tell it wasn't entirely close to his current location, but it was too close for comfort. He would need to be wary of the sounds continuing forward. Past the creek, Touwa would find himself in another clearing that was oddly colorful to the point it almost looked like it was out of a fairytale book. Adjusting his eyesight, since it was now officially dark, he found this area filled with hundreds and hundreds of frogs of different shades and hues. Unmoving Touwa figured out these creatures normally were active during the day and while not dangerous they could prove to as a beacon to the roar he heard earlier if he woke them up. So sneaking past was a must.[break][break]

With caution, Touwa came to a peaceful creek. Drinking the cool, refreshing water, he relieved his parched throat and prepared himself for the next part of his journey. As he crossed the creek, he came upon a charming clearing that was covered in a rainbow of vibrant frogs, which stood out against the otherwise gloomy surroundings.

Touwa realized he needed to exercise caution as he carefully surveyed the vibrant expanse in front of him. Even though they don't seem to be harmful, the frogs might unintentionally alert others to his presence if they are startled. His mind replayed the roar he'd heard earlier. Touwa knew he had to be on the lookout because whatever made that noise could be very dangerous to him.

Touwa performed the needed hand signs and a burst of chakra to perform the transformation jutsu, turning his body into a rock that was about the same size as those around him. He reasoned that by wearing this disguise, he could move through the clearing without drawing the frogs' attention, or if he did, they might not be alarmed by it or so he hoped.

With extreme caution, Touwa moved in slow, deliberate steps. He concentrated on keeping his cool and resisted the temptation to give in to the nerves that were starting to get to him. To reduce any possible disruptions, every step was meticulously selected and every movement was calculated. However, it was no easy task to avoid the small creatures and not step on anything in the darkness that was surrounding him.

Using the transformation technique to disguise himself as a rock was a bit of a unique take on getting past the frogs when ideally one could just sneak through, but it certainly was creative. It sort of confused Tadashi to see Touwa do this, but hey it was something. Though doing this technique would have its consequences as the poof of smoke would alert some of the frogs nearby, but due to their delayed reaction to waking up they would simply see smoke dispersing and a rock being present. Some of the more aware frogs would look at the moving rock with confusion while others would simply go back to sleep.[break][break]

One of these frogs, a brightly colored blue frog with black dots around its body, found the slowly moving rock fascinating and jumped on top of the rock. It was oddly warm which was certainly an interesting change of pace for most rocks that were very cool. It was nice. So the frog decided he would sit on this rock and enjoy its time on this weird structure. This wouldn't last too long for the frog as once Touwa was in the next clearing, another crimson-painted area, they would release the transformation turning back into their human form. The sudden poof of smoke would spook the frog and it would hop away angrily at losing its ride. [break][break]

As with the other intersections of blood, this one had a few paths Touwa could take. To the east another wooded area similar to that of the frog section that Touwa just found themselves leaving. The south housed a large tree with a curving path. While the west leads to a shallow dark cave. While nothing was much apparent for each location one thing Touwa could tell was there was traction in the ground in this area. The ground had been stepped on to where the grass had a hard time growing on the ground a clear sign they were getting close to the end.[break][break]

Touwa took a moment to catch his breath and assess his surroundings as he reverted to his human form. The encounter with the curious frog was unexpected but thankfully harmless. With a faint smirk at the memory, he redirected his focus to the paths ahead.

The tree to the south caught his attention, its large form standing tall amidst the clearing. Something was alluring about it. Perhaps there was a shelter or some clue hidden within its branches that could aid him, maybe it was similar to the previous tree. Hopefully with no nasty birds this time. With a decisive nod, Touwa set his course toward the tree.

As he approached, Touwa couldn't help but be alert. It was dark, and he had absolutely no idea where he was. With cautious optimism, he followed the curving path that led to the tree's base.

Upon reaching the tree, Touwa's idea was to decide to pause to examine its trunk, he would run his hand along the rough bark as he would survey his surroundings. With a deep breath, Touwa would lean against the tree, taking a moment to rest and think about how he should proceed onward.

The tree as mighty and strong as it was happened to be quiet. With it being night now the birds were sleeping in their canopies and it honestly was a relatively safe space for some rest. The only major issues were the nocturnal bugs crawling around the base of the tree, but they paid Touwa no mind simply ignoring his presence so long as he didn't disturb them. Upon closer inspection of the tree though Touwa would find something odd about its trunk. It was damaged, but not by natural phenomena. What exactly the damage wasn't exactly apart as it did heal over time altering the damage from being perceived easily. Still, the damage was there and that could mean there was a sign of something unnatural nearby. Just what that was was unknown at this time.[break][break]

Taking a rest in this area was slightly dangerous as Touwa was keeping themselves out in the open for any predators, but luckily for him, nothing attacked him during the hour he slept. He was only awoken by the sound of a roar similar to that of the one he heard earlier, but this time much more distant than it was last time. The rest wasn't the most comfortable of naps, but it did regain some of the energy he was missing, but it did nothing for his hunger and thirst. [break][break]

Still, the boy would continue into another bog-like area. It was filled with blobs of brown all over the area some awake and some asleep, but for the most part, was a peaceful bunch of capybaras. The awake ones would be alerted to Touwa's presence and would turn to stare at him watching him carefully to see if he was coming to prey upon them. Their wary nature became even more apparent when Touwa looked around at the trees surrounding the bog-like area seeing claw marks indenting the trees. There was a predator of theirs that frequented the area which meant Touwa would need to be careful to not end up crossing paths with it.[break][break]

Touwa now had a few choices to make as his stomach was now paining him for sustenance. He could either try continuing down the jungle path past the capybaras towards another crimson-stained field and dealing with the hunger or he could take his chances at using the hunting knife he found to get some fresh meat from the capybaras. To hunt for food or go hungry was his biggest obstacle now especially since Touwa didn't know how much longer he had in this jungle landscape.[break][break]

Passing the capybaras and letting them do their own thing seemed to be a good choice as the wary rodents let you pass unhindered. A fairly lax lot they held no worries of Touwa being a threat when he didn't act upon his instinct to hunt them and continued to do whatever capybaras did. With their little pitter-patter of feet slowly drifting away as Touwa continued past them.[break][break]

The next area was a familiar site as it was a field filled with crimson. If Touwa didn't know any better he thought he might be going in circles with how often he was running into them. His health waned as the night went on as his body was now suffering the effects of dehydration. With his mouth feeling very dry and his breathing slowly becoming more and more shallow. If he didn't find a water source within the hour he was certain he may pass out. [break][break]

He had another choice of where to go each beginning to look more and more familiar to him. To his north lay a dense fog blocking his sight of the path beyond it. To his south, a curving cave led to what looked like another densely fogged area. To his east came a flowery field similar to the one he started in with paths to the north and south. The southern path here would lead to another swamp-like area while the northern path would lead to what looked like a grassy hill that was wide open. So many choices for the young boy and as time went on the more important and conclusive each choice was becoming.[break][break]

As he moved deeper into the field, the sweet scent of flowers mingled with the earthy aroma of damp soil, offering a momentary reprieve from the tension that gripped him. Touwa's eyes darted from bloom to bloom, searching for any indication of water or edible plants.

Finally, his efforts were rewarded as he spotted a cluster of vibrant blue flowers growing near the edge of a small stream. Rushing forward, he dropped to his knees beside the water, cupping his hands to drink deeply, feeling the cool liquid revive his parched throat.

With his immediate need for water quenched, Touwa turned his attention to the surrounding flora, carefully inspecting each plant for any signs of edibility. After identifying a few safe options, he gathered what he could carry and ate some.
