Raiders Of the Lost Art "Soooo borrreeeeeddddddddd.... How much longer Ayukawa would keep her arms slumped, walking behind the three as she tilted her sunglasses down slightly as to show her less than energetic demeanor. Granted, going on a mission with her team and big brother was awesome, but since they had left Sunagakure to journey across the desert, nothing of true note had happened. Her nose had picked up all but the wildlife in front of her, and not one bit of it had attempted to attack them or even try and see what they were doing. The event in and of itself would be a change of pace, but the girl did like to be more active than simply walking. The mission in and of itself was a bit of a let down too. Granted, she was worried about the researchers and the fact that they had found something that had been lost within the desert, but the truth was that many things were lost in the desert. During her first trip to Sunagakure, she had managed to lose a shoe, two bean buns, and a pair of underwear. Granted, she was able to get some more once she arrived, but what made this relic so important? It must have been pretty special if bandits came after it. But it wasn't exactly like they were going to have much of an issue dealing with them right? Especially with the all star team they had for this. She began to wonder if the Jounin Commander had done this on purpose? It would be right up her cousin's alley to send people off to look for buried treasure. As much as she loved her, Arashi turned into a manic when it came to stuff like this. "How much longer till we reach the camp site?" Her tone was certainly lacking in optimism, but then again, she had been asking the same question for at least two hours now. If not using the rest of the time to complain about her personal boredom demon that was dragging her down. The sun didn't help either, but then she was the one at the back of the line. The young girl had even gone so far as to wrap her jacket across her waist to help with the heat, but even with her being used to such conditions, if she wasn't moving, she was simply just getting beat down by the rays of light that were stinging her skin like bug bites.

Another day, another mission it seemed to be the case as of late which was a grand departure from the previous months worth of sitting around the Kage office not doing too much of anything. Well, he was technically doing a job by guarding Takato but the amount of people who would try and harm the man inside the village of all places were thankfully few, or so Asahi hoped. However, in the last few weeks the chunin had been assigned a couple of higher profile missions and had gotten to stretch his legs a little bit thankfully.

Rin and Zakku had been part of his squad for the last one and... it was the same this time around with the addition of a normally bubbly but now all too bored Ayukawa. While he wouldn't say that it was a welcomed sight for the girl to not be bouncing off the walls there was a surprising amount of peace that came from it, though in the end Asahi had lost track of how many times the girl had asked if they were nearing their destination. With each step it was becoming more and more true but in a seemingly endless sea of sand it was hard to tell. "I'm sure we'll be there soon." Asahi replied with a slight smile. Even for a group who had spent pretty much their entire lives in the country the harsh sun and unforgiving heat were still almost too much to deal with, but years of survival training had prepared the young Kyokujitsu for such tasks and he wouldn't falter now.

Their task this time was to search a campsite for any clues to the whereabouts of an ancient relic and the team who had initially discovered it. It was similar to one of the first missions Asahi had ever gone on as a genin and he wondered if said relic had any connection to the ruins he and his then team had explored that day? He was none too pleased about heading into the badlands of Kaze no Kuni --again-- but so long as they steered very clear of Sekara all would be well. Would the group be so lucky? Only time would tell...

Zakku slowly looked up from his book as Ayu began complaining about her boredom.  The fun was lost long after her first time mentioning it.  He let out an irritated click of his tongue tucking his book away Then Ayu asked how much further for the umpteenth time.  Asahi answered her which was a good idea since Zakku was about to just curse at her.  Though trips to mission locations were always boring he enjoyed the time getting lost in his books.  This time however with Ayus constant complaints Zakku hadn't made it halfway through his manga.  

He pushed up his sunglasses and scanned the sands.  He hated the badlands.  Especially when he was already in a bad mood.  He'd been craving a smoke before they'd left the village and being scolded by Rin wasn't something he wanted.  He respected Rin too much watching him go from an academy student to a Jounin in less time it took him to reach Chuunin.  Zakku also held respect for both Ayu and Asahi but he had a bit more fear of Ayu after their bout in the exams.  

The blue haired Shinobi couldn't believe he had been chosen for another mission.  Especially after going with Rin and the Kyokujitsu not that long ago.  He was being taken seriously in the village and was proud his superiors were finally seeing it.  Though exploring Ruins and dealing with Art didn't sound much better than when he was on wall duty.  Still it should be an easy mission under his belt and Zakku liked the idea of getting easy wins.  Then he can read all day and justify it.  

Zakku wiped his forehead off and flung the sweat into the sands.  His combat vest kept sticking to his chest and back after he'd taken off his shirt and tucked it into his pack in an effort to keep cool.  He just wished that there was breeze to help his effort.

Rin had been to the badlands and back several times now, and had a decent idea despite the shifting sands where the entire crew was. Ayukawa's whining and groaning wasn't very helpful though, and he found it a touch irritating. Though, he chose not to say anything hoping that time would simply cause Ayukawa to get tired of complaining. That wasn't necessarily the case, but no matter. They walked on, Rin only occasionally taking a sip of water from a reservoir he kept on his person when traveling across the desert.

A small yawn left him, but soon enough over some tall cliffs, he spotted the curling and effervescent quality of smoke rising into the hot air. The signs of a potential camp? They had been hired to rescue and retrieve, after all, so the last dying embers of a campsite wouldn't be out of the question.

"There," He would point out to the rest of the team. "Smoke. Approach with caution. If there is no one, search the area."

It seemed an easy enough command to give, and in truth, smoke usually signaled a very limited number of things. It was not unlikely that they were now coming upon exactly what they needed.

Raiders Of the Lost Art "Stillllll...I mean... Looking toward Asahi with an almost puppy like expression, it was a true sign that the girl was indeed acting to a certain degree, her age. Which in contrast, probably showed just how mature Rin was by comparison. Yet, it seemed that just thinking about Rin seemed to prompt some sense of response from him, calling them to attention as he noted the smoke in the distance. The odor was quick to pick up, but then again, despite her sense of smell, the girl wasn't exactly focusing it at that moment to the level she needed to. But that seemed to prompt her to, taking a whiff as she could smell the wood, or at least faintly. It certainly seemed to be mostly a mix of ash now. The hint of almost charred meat seemed stale. At the notion of caution in their approach, the girl would nod her head as she began to slowly crouch, as if to lighten her footsteps as they drew in closer. In a sense, this was the action she wanted. But as they closed in, they'd find the camp was empty. Only what remained seemed to be the only clue to people having once settled there. Signs of tents and baggage, all having been rummaged through and likely taken. The clutter was evident of that. Or perhaps it meant something else. There were people here at one time, likely the researchers and their team. It was a small camp though, so why where there so many smells lingering everywhere? Kneeling down, the girl would place her hand against the sand, raising some of it up as she smelled it once more. "Weird....theres a lot of footprints here...but I thought there were only a few researchers..not a dozen..." Her expression was blank as she looked at Rin, from there waiting for his instructions as she then sat down for a moment and released a sigh. At least they were there now, though now the real work began. "Not to mention the pattern of the foot prints is all over the place...almost like they were dancing..."

In doing his best to keep Ayukawa's attention occupied himself instead of the endless sea of sand Asahi had not given much time to think on what they were potentially about to stumble upon. The great sand deserts held many secrets and preserved ruins of older settlements and civilizations so there was a chance the researchers had found something of not just historical value, but had word of their findings reached the underbelly of the country so quickly that they were set upon? Perhaps it was just happenstance and being in the wrong place at the wrong time that led to the disappearance, though given the vastness of Kaze no Kuni that theory was definitely a stretch.

The chunin's focus would shift to the rising pillar of smoke Rin pointed out indicating that their destination was very close. The mission had now begun. From his position Asahi would pulse his chakra outward looking for any non familiar signatures in the direction of the camp, but aside from the three others on the mission with him there didn't seem to be anyone else in the area. Once they laid eyes on the camp it became clear that someone --many someones-- had been here at some point but had left in quite a hurry. What hadn't been taken was strewn about the wind swept ground or left in a general dilapidated state. Asahi would try his hand at checking a couple of the tents that had been set up as sleeping quarters to se if any vital information could be found, perhaps a clue as to what had been found or where the original destination was, but for the most part was coming up empty.

"Nothing in the tents, and I'm not picking up any chakra signatures in the area aside from our own, so whoever was here got out of dodge quick." Asahi spoke as he emerged from one of the tents. Listening to Ayukawa it was almost a given that the small team of researchers had been set upon by an outside group, though from the look of things Asahi found it hard to believe they'd be dancing instead of frantically running around trying to not get attacked.

Sensor shinobi
Having trained to be as precise with his chakra control as possible since a young age, it only made sense for Asahi to apply his honed control to the sensory field. Acting similar to sonar he can send out his chakra to create a "map" of sorts of the surrounding area. While not completely able to identify a person solely from their chakra signature, if he has enough information to combine with what his sensing skills are giving him then finding specific targets isn't too difficult a task. Without focusing Asahi is able to cover a distance of two hundred meters, but when dedicating chakra to his craft he can map out an area of one kilometer.

Zakku watched the smoke as Rin pointed it out.  Good maybe they only had to check up on them and get back home.  Lowering himself closer to the ground he crouch walked his way closer in an attempt to quiet his movements.  He watched Ayu sniff the sands and arched an eyebrow forgetting how her abilities worked.  Maybe they had danced away in a fit of Desert madness?

He followed Asahi towards the tents when something glinted off the sun.  His eyes and head instantly turned towards it seeing a canteen half buried.  Grabbing the canteen it was still full to the top as if no one had taken a drink of it.  Zakku spun the cap off as Asahi said there wasn't anyone near.  Weird.  Zakku lifted the canteen up to take a drink stopping as an all too familiar scent drifted out and into his nose.  He moved the canteen away from his mouth and slowly replaced the lid.  "I don't think they were drinking water.  Heads up Rin."  He said and tossed the canteen to Rin caring little if he was paying attention or not.  "Someone was drinking Cactus water or making them drink it."  

Being warned numerous times by his senseis hadn't detered team 3 from trying it once and ending their mission early being sent home with hallucinations and the worst high he'd ever been on.  "Even if they were drinking it it doesn't explain the dancing though.  Maybe they were trying to sedate them?  No."  Zakku crossed his arms as he thought out loud searching the campsite.  Letting out an irritated click of his tongue as he tried to make sense out of the few pieces they had been given to this puzzle.

Rin took slightly higher ground, still listening to what the others had to say whilst paying attention to the area around. There might be something to find from higher up. His lips were pursed quietly, there were many footprints, and there was nothing in the tents. The majority of the tents were completely broken down, and the camp itself was pretty ransacked. A canteen was thrown towards him though and he caught it to inspect it, briefly before allowing both of his arms to drop at his side so that he could look around.

The footprints were leading in several different directions, but it seemed that if they followed all of them, they would be wasting their time. In Rin's opinion, they needed to follow the ones with the strongest scent, at least in accordance with Ayukawa. That would be the best idea in his opinion... But if they all smelled, then that would require split off into teams.

Either way, Rin decided to jump down from his vantage point after seeing where the main tracks led off too and then inspecting the spots that the others had looked at.

"My guess is the researchers were captured and tied up. It's unlikely that they were the ones dancing or getting drunk. They're here for work. So, I reckon they were kept hostage whilst our targets were doing all of the partying for them. Maybe even with this cactus water, but the dancing could have been spinning from drunkenness.. It's clear that they cleared out this morning, that's why the fire is still smoking."

He paused gently and sighed.

"I doubt they could have gotten far though if all of this happened last night, they're still likely recovering from the drinking and partying... Ayukawa, can you smell which direction the scent is the strongest? Or does it lead off into several directions equally?"

Raiders Of the Lost Art "Gahhhh!? Who the heck thinks drinkin Cactus water is a good idea!? Ayukawa would look toward Zakku with a disgusted look on her face, prompting her to shake her head as if she had been drinking it herself. She heard about the experiences that came from such a mix, and personally, it made her sick to her stomach. If anything, doing something so reckless was insane out in the desert. Especially with the number of ways one could get lost out here chasing the illusion it created. Or eaten for that matter. Still, it seemed that Asahi hadn't managed much from his search either, only gathering the idea that the ones that had been here made sure to leave just as quickly. It at least added up with the number of footprints and odors, which were getting to the point of flaring her nostrils as she began to smell them almost collectively. With the young girl now covering her nose with her hand, it seemed that Rin had started to put some pieces together, allowing for her to rise up to her feet as she blinked with her hand between her eyes. It seemed the idea was that the researchers had not been the ones drinking at all, but rather their captors. They had a fun night, likely due to the Cactus water, and eventually would move out with the researchers and artifact in toe. With the question left to her if she could follow the strongest scent, the girl would nod before releasing a breath as she held her own and began to sniff the air. "Ewwwwww....yea...I found it...oh wait...I'm smelling my hand..hold on..." Removing her palm this time with a sheepish grin, the girl would then do so again, allowing her eyes to narrow as the serious nature of her huntress instinct took hold. With it, her hold demeanor changed as she knelt down and began to focus. "The scent of Cactus water and intense sweat is the likely known location for the majority of the group. I have them...north west moving at a slightly slow pace. But they have a massive lead ahead of us by at least 4 hours...the location ahead moves us toward the border of Sekara..." Reeling back up, the girl would then begin to move forward as she looked as if she were ready to sprint ahead. "I can lead us there...when you are ready..."

This was a strange set of events to say the least. There were definitely signs of people having been here but they had gotten out of dodge quicker than a group that size should have been able to, and they had even left some of their drinking supplies behind which was almost suicide in these parts. To make matters even more confusing Zakku seemed under the assumption that whatever was in that canteen wasn't water which made even less sense. People having a drink wasn't new or even getting drunk for that matter, but if they were that far gone just how were they able to wander off in such a state beyond the range of sensor shinobi?

Where Asahi was perplexed Rin seemed to have a better time putting together a plausible scenario: the research team had gotten captured and said captives reveled in the night and were surely the reason the camp looked as disheveled as it did. Well that certainly made sense, especially considering that the group was sharing cactus water and probably couldn't see straight after enough helpings of the stuff. From his survival trainings as a youth he knew that drinking that stuff was an absolute last resort because of its uh... interesting side effects, though whoever these captors were probably weren't worried about getting lost in the desert.

Well now that they had established what happened they now had to figure out where the captors and research team were, or at least where they were headed. The good news was with a group of such size and the captors still reeling from their celebrations they probably weren't as far away as they could have been, and with Ayukawa's tracking skills she had been able to lock down a general direction which, at the name, caused the chunin's eyes to widen.

The dreaded 'S' word had reappeared, a place Asahi vowed never to go to ever again after certain happenings and even though they were a full squad he doubt that meant much if a certain someone came looking for a favor returned. It was now even more imperative that they catch up to the group before they got to the city as it was easier than not to lose track of someone in all that mess, and the people weren't really the cooperative type. "Y-You're sure it's Sekara? That place is no good so we definitely need to catch up to 'em." He would reply already dreading taking any steps closer to that Kami forsaken place.

Zakku listened to Rin as he spoke.  It wasn't making sense to him why they'd drink cactus water but that wasn't the main issue here.  They had to find the missing people no ponder cactus water usage. He watched Ayu mess up by sniffing her hand and rolled his eyes.  He noticed the change in Asahi as Ayu brought up Sekara.  Something about that unsettled Zakku.  "Maybe if we pick up the pace we can catch up to them before they get that far."

Zakku knew he was fast and even had a jutsu to make himself faster but he didn't know if they all could cover the distance when they had a four hour lead on them.  Especially when there were still a bunch of unknowns in the situation. "It'll take quite a bit of running even if we go at full speed we'll be worn out before we get there so it wouldn't hurt to prepare for the worst Asahi."  He said casually as he started to move after Ayu and follow her.

He wasn't going to be left behind but he also wasn't going to be last.  He was ready to go at Rins word but would also do as he was told.

Rin couldn't help but roll his eyes ever so slightly at Ayukawa smelling her own hand and being disgusted by it. Perhaps washing ones own hands was in fact the way to perfect health? It was a theory that Rin had, but having worked in a hospital for a period of time he certainly had a habit of keeping himself cleaner than most shinobi did.

Once she figured it out though, Rin would nod. Sekara was not a good place, but he wasn't seemingly as quick to feel nervous in response to the news. It was a known place where bandits and darker figures would roam. So, he expected it to an extent especially with how close they are to the border of Sekara, to begin with.

Rin pondered, looking over the camp a little more before he nodded to himself.

"Alright, let's head out. Ayukawa, lead the way. They are likely walking, four hours or not. If we keep a steady bounding pace..." That was, he meant to jump from boulder to boulder, and mountain to mountain to cover more ground than their opposition. "We should be able to catch up to them. Jump as far as you can as much as you can to preserve overall energy." That was in their best interests currently.

Raiders Of the Lost Art "Yes...I am certain... The girl would blink for a moment as Asahi seemed to question just if she were certain that this was indeed the direction the group had moved in. By all other suggestions, it seemed to be the best short. While she could not trace energy, odors were a different story. They weren't advanced, but well trained to follow prey across vast distances. It made her clan quite capable, and it also aided in allowing them to follow herds for days without losing them. It made it so they could have the foundations to survive within the dangerous landscape of the desert. Though before Ayukawa could ask just what was up, Zakku would give the mention of they might be able to avoid the border if they picked up the pace. A sound idea, though really it was up to Rin on how they were to go ahead with this, to which the blonde stated that they move at a bounding pace, using the mountains and their jumping ability at a steady rate. If possible, they might be able to get at least close to them. Perhaps not enough to catch them, but maybe take them by surprise in their trek. With Rin telling the girl to lead the way, Ayu would nod before beginning her run, dashing across the sand as she began to use the terrain of rocks and dunes to her advantage. The distance they crossed was quite different from the endless sea of sand and dust. The heat only continued to build as the day pressed on. But with it, came the renewed fragrance of the thieves sweat from their pores. They were clearly reeking of the Cactus water, whcih made it all the more easy for the Sunagakure nin to keep on their trail. Time continue to pass, and while it may have felt like more than a few hours, the progression of time had only put them at about two. With her sliding to a stop, her body lingering over one of the short range mountains, she could make out what looked to be a small settlement that lingered close by, and the presence of the group as well within it. An area that laid around what appeared to be a water source. Tents and huts set up. The small sounds of trade and the sight of camels and horses. Wagons made a bit of a barrier, but it seemed like an open was allowed for those to pass through. If their targets were still within range, they would be there now. Perhaps resting, maybe restocking on supplies for the rest of their journey. But with only a few hours remaining before they arrived in Sekara, it seemed sudden to have to stop here. "This is where the trail end...." That said, the girl's eyes would return to their normal demeanor, along with her posture as she then slumped over as she held her stomach. "Mannnn so hungry...I knew I shouldn't have eaten all my bean buns on the way out here...awwwww...this totally bites..."

No matter how long he waited none of the others shared the chunin's uneasiness about heading towards Sekara, a place the boy unfortunately knew all too well. Perhaps if he had spoken about a certain favor owed they would possibly reconsider but that would also serve to open up a completely different can of worms that was arguably worse than what they were dealing with now. Hmm, yeah that was definitely a conversation for another time and judging from the look on their faces it seemed that they were not too concerned about the seediness of the groups possible destination.

With a sigh Asahi prepared himself for the upcoming trek that was going to test their limits as they had quite a bit of ground to make up in addition to having to travel through the arid deserts of Kaze no Kuni. It wasn't the first, nor would it probably be the last, time that Asahi had to do his fair share of zipping across inhospitable conditions but man that did not mean he wanted to do it. Alas, if the group could manage to cut them off before reaching Sekara then it would prevent them from slinking away in the recesses of that terrible city.

With the instructions given the chunin would follow suit behind Ayukawa as she led them in a quickened pace across the terrain in pursuit of the group. In an effort to conserve what energy they could Asahi found himself using his own momentum to vault over rocky formations and up and over dunes should the need arise; even being able to save a step or two would do wonders in the long run. While it was very easy to keep track of how long they had been running given the position of the sun overhead it was less tiring to not even think about such things and remain focused.

After a certain length of time Ayukawa would come to a grinding halt on the close end of a small raised rock formation, her superior sense of smell having led them to what looked to be a trading post complete with wagons and a watering hole. Had they stopped to gather supplies for the rest of their journey or were the captors part of a larger ring that they had now met up with? Either way, it was strange for them to stop not too far from Sekara though chances were if these were their wagons most of whatever was in them probably wouldn't remain in their possession for too long. A focused sensing effort pinged a good number of people in and around the wagons though the boy couldn't know for sure if the team of researchers were among them.

Zakku hadn't considered jumping to conserve energy.  As soon as Asahi and Ayu took off Zakku followed behind.  He'd run down a dune then up another ramping off and spreading his arms and legs out catching as much air as he could.  Keeping the others in view he'd keep this tehcnique going as long as he could using his momentum to launch himself back into the air.  

The trip didn't feel that long but Zakku often lost track of time when he was feeling the air rush past him.  It was a familiar and always welcomed feeling for the blue haired chunin.  Landing beside the others he'd observe the settlement placing a hand on Ayu's head as she complained.  "Well you might have a chance to replenish your food here.  They might have jerky."  He said hoping she didn't know about the snacks he hid in his pack.

"Should we hide our Suna bands Rin?  Try to use what bit of surprise we have or should we just walk in?"  he motioned to his forehead protector.  After dealing with the bad side of Suna while he was a bad Genin Zakku had learned that flashing the symbol of the law didn't always get him the answers he wanted often just unconscious with Nezumi and Miori.

Expert Tactician

Zakkus quick thinking and his intelligence have made him a tactical expert on the field. While not 100% fool proof his plans can often been seen getting the results he needs or something close. He can devise a plan in little time and takes very little to change it to get his results.



Large Chakra Pool

Zakku was born with a larger than average chakra pool. He can do multiple jutsus without losing mush stamina and won't tire out as easily. He can also fight for awhile longer than his fellow Shinobi of his skill group.



Enhanced Speed

Zakku has trained his legs to react and move faster. He can move double his normal speed and even can triple it if he's sprinting. He can run for longer periods of time at normal speed.
