[Kaguya Meiko]

Meiko sat down with a sigh. A cousin of hers had pulled her aside earlier and asked if she knew any Gure or perhaps had sparred with some in the past. Something she could not quite understand why was such an important and urgent question, until it was revealed a young Gure stood without a mentor when it came to their hidden art and fungi world.  Perhaps she would have gone into the academy of she hadn't been assigned as both muscle and front of house staff - so to speak. Her friendly face would have made her a decent teacher, but she functioned well as a gate guard at this time, plus it tied in well with her work at the underwater prison.  She stirred her tea, watching the leftover bots of leaves swirl around in the dissolving honey, almost as of the tea leaves would arrange themselves into an answer to the ques rolling around in her head.  There weren't much she could do, but attempt to work with the girl, she had gone and agreed to it after all.  Her hazel eyes roamed around the room, a lounging area where only the faint noises of training and ongoing lessons broke the silence. She had never been to such am academy and she'd be lying if she wasn't curious about the lessons and how they were conducted. She was a military unit and had been raise to be such from birth. Hardly capable of the diplomatic tactics needed when working with children on a daily basis. Soon enough the lessons would let up, she assumed. Or perhaps a teacher would escort the Gure out to her for the lesson while the others remained in whatever lesson they had scheduled?  Meiko would remain seated with her tea, looking rather anonymous in her training gear with a colourful flower kimono covering it up pretty well.

An was paying close attention to the class, taking careful notes in her colorfully organized notebook as best she could. Though the teacher's speed in this particular class was quite fast, making it a completely different task to note down all the useful information in an organized manner, as many of An's classmates had given up and were scribbling down as quickly as they could, probably hoping to be able to read it later on. Nevertheless, the class itself was quite interesting.

As the bell rang, signaling the end of the lesson, many students rushed out of the classrooms, with loud chatter and laughter, including An and her friends, but she was stopped by their teacher before she could reach the exit. "Wait a minute, An," he said. "Yes," the young girl replied to her teacher before motioning for her friends to proceed without her. "Someone is waiting for you in the lounge; follow me!" An followed the older male, wondering who it could be, but her young mind couldn't come up with anyone specific; in the meantime, the two had arrived at their destination. "That person over there," the male said politely, pointing to the female in the lounge, before leaving the two alone.

Who?... An was perplexed because she had never seen this person before, but she approached the long strawberry blonde-haired female. Her eyes were large and hazel, her face rounded giving her a "soft and round" appearance. A very friendly and approachable appearance indeed. "Hello, my name is Gure An," An approached and introduced herself to the older female, who was seated in the lounging area with a cup of tea, with a polite bow. Her expression was unmistakably puzzled.

Gure An would turn out to be a girl of short stature and with white hair, a pretty common feature around Mizu no kuni. Meiko's attention was first caught when the teacher had pointed An towards her and she hurriedly finished her tea before the girl was by her. "Hello, An. I'm Kaguya Meiko. A friend of mine who works here said you might be in need of some assistance with you kekkei genkai?" She wore a sweet smile, hoping it did not come as a surprise to An that word had made its way around and that people were willing to help her understand and utilize her abilities. It was after all a treasured ability, not many possessed it and even fewer mastered it to its full potential. Meiko had worked long and hard to advance her own ability with her kekkei genkai, it had not been easy. Sometimes the learning curve had been steep, other times it had been rather flat and easy to figure out. The most amazing thing, perhaps, was that each individual utilized their gifts in their own unique way and would prove to be a handful to handle when they truly came into their full potential. Surely An would use her powers for the village and for its survival and advancement. It was so sad whenever someone decided to go against their Mizukage, Daimyo, and beautiful land. Meiko shifted her weight in her seat and crossed one leg over the other, large hazel eyes fixed on An, a small smile playing on her lips as she posed a question; "So, tell me, what can you do and what do you know about your kekkei genkai?"

The older lady introduced herself as Kaguya Meiko, a lovely name if one may say so. An moved closer to Meiko, sitting across from her, as she watched her finish her tea quickly before continuing to speak.

An wasn't sure how much Meiko knew about her clan's abilities, and she couldn't give out too much information to strangers either, but as this was a special case, and if she was to be helped, the other person should have as much information as possible for this to work, and well, she did get her grandparents' approval to seek outside help, as no other Gurē was available to teach the young student at the moment.

"As Meiko-san is probably aware, my clan specializes in fungi manipulation," which was similar to Kaguyas' specialty in bone manipulation. "At the moment, I am immune to the fungi's poison and am able to grow them on myself, but that would be about it," she continued, with a sad tone, as other peers her age could do much more or would have already fully mastered the clan's ability. As a result, An was only halfway to mastering one's ability, which was followed by the ability to grow fungi on any surface, and finally, the ability to do all of the above at the same time.

"Would Meiko-san be able to assist me in manifesting fungi on the surface, as I have no idea how to do so?" She looked Meiko in the eyes, hoping that the older Kaguya could do the same or at least knew the way.

What An told her sounded familiar and made Meiko smile. It was always tricky to learn the basics at first. She recalled how she had trained to control the calcium in her bones at first, how to feel that push and pull. How to direct it instead of it being a product of her own natural survival instincts.  "Hmm, it is a bit trickier than manifesting it on your own body, yes. Manifesting your fungi on your own body is the first step, so that is good."  Perhaps it would be better to do this type of training outside, after all she might release some spores on accident or use too much chakra and create a much greater reaction than she had intended.  "Lets head outside, I think that might be easier than practicing in here. You'll be more in touch with nature and all that, too. "  Meiko exited the building and made her way to the nearest open, empty area. She swirled around on her heel and pressed her finger tips together. She didn't have anything to demonstrate her own capabilities with manifesting her kekkei genkai on the ground, but she was dedicated and well on her way to learning a Jutsu she had her eyes on from the clans archive.  "So warm up a bit and manifest some fungi on your hands a couple of times."  She would wait patiently, explaining as An did jer warm up.  "Just to get your chakra flowing and get good grasp on your fungi chakra."  Once she had accomplished that, Meiko went on; "so now you will try to envision pushing that fungi chakra out of your hands and into the ground. Hmm, think about letting it flow into the ground, yea? Meiko crossed her arms and nodded, ready to observe and correct and answers questions.

An returned Meiko's smile almost instinctively, responding to the other's facial expression as she spoke. Nodding in agreement, An agreed with what the other female was saying. An found it difficult to manifest the fungi on herself because she was still quite new to this, so manifesting it on anything other than herself seemed like an impeccable task at the time. But it appeared that Meiko was aware of her difficulties and would be able to assist the young lady with light hair.

Going outside was, indeed, a good idea. Nobody knew what would happen when An put her abilities to the test. Even the little girl herself. As a result, it was always preferable to be safe than sorry. Though spores and fungi were relatively harmless at this point, the staff at the Academy might not be pleased to find their inner rooms infested with such things. And being closer to nature was something An really enjoyed. Even if her family has been settled in one place for generations, the genes of wandering and being nomadic at one point in Gurē's history were always present in An.

"Yes, I think it's a good idea as well," she said as she followed Meiko to an open space outside the Academy. As Meiko instructed, An began to warm up, allowing her chakra to flow through her body as she began to manifest small enoki mushrooms here and there on her body, as the liquid-like body of chakra came into contact with specific points of An's body from within. After a while, An's palms were full of enoki of various shapes and sizes, demonstrating the young Gure's ability to control her chakra, which wasn't bad, but not perfect, as an experienced Gure would be able to make each mushroom a duplicate of the other.

The girl's palms returned to normal in the blink of an eye, as did the rest of her body beneath the hidden eye of her garment. "I'll give it a shot!" she closed her eyes and crouched closer to the ground, placing her palm directly on the soil and feeling it under her skin. Pushing it out of herself sounded similar to, but distinct from, what she did when she manifested the fungi on herself. An began by releasing only a small amount, which seemed to make no discernible difference because nothing sprouted. The young female decided it would be a good idea to add a little more in small amounts, but it made no difference. The reason for this was most likely that the chakra did not actually accumulate as An had taught, because, by the time she added a bit more, the previous bit had already dispersed. "I don't think it's working, Meiko-neesan," she said as she looked at the empty ground before shifting her puppy-like gaze to Meiko.

She started off strong. It became clear rather swiftly how the young girl had practiced growing the mushrooms on herself before and the way she fared with the warmup task instilled some confidence in Meiko regarding her ability to master this other aspect of her kekkei genkai.  Meiko couldn't help flexing her own muscle, causing her to sway gently back and forth on her feet as she observed her. Being able to send chakra into the ground would become the foundation of many other abilities and Jutsu. Though she still recalled how she had fared with cracking that mystery... Meiko could not help smiling at the girl when she looked up, her eyes as big as teacups. Was she going to cry about it? She hoped not. Meiko would reach out and place a supportive hand on her shoulder. "You got this! Try again and don't hold anything back, just... Try to gather as much chakra as you can and then dump it all into the ground, don't think about doing it the right or wrong way, because there is no right or wrong way. It is your kekkei genkai. It is part of you and not one of them are truly the same among clan members. You won't be using it the same way as your parent or cousin... Just like no one fights quote the same way." She hoped her words would encourage and drive her to attempt a more explosive course of action. Perhaps Meiko would regret it, but she doubted the young girl could pack a punch she and her armor could not resist. And even if she could, she was a durable young woman and it would not be her first bruise, broken bone, or infection.  Meiko stepped aside and readied her own chakra, hardening the layer of bone just beneath the skin to her maximum level and motioned for An to do her thing and attempt the move once more.

The hand on An's shoulder was firm and powerful, yet gentle and warm. She paid close attention to Meiko as she explained the best course of action the young shinobi could take, processing and accepting all of the new information. "I get it, Meiko-neesan. I never tried gathering and releasing all of my chakra at once because it was more necessary to concentrate it in one place before," she replied honestly while contemplating the best way to accomplish this feat.

The orange-haired girl took a few steps away, her body visibly tense. An wasn't sure what it was, but she had a vague idea in the back of her mind. Perhaps it was to avoid any disaster that might result from what happened next, as the young girl herself had no idea what would happen if a large amount of chakra was released at the same time. She had no control over what appeared, how it was shaped, or how far it reached in terms of area at the time. Fortunately or unfortunately, this area was ideal for the growth of fungi.

An knelt on one knee, feeling the earthly surface with one of her palms, closing her eyes to better feel the flow of chakra inside her as she guided it towards the hand in contact with the said surface. It took her a few moments to gather everything in one place because she was still an academy student and these kinds of things did not come naturally to her yet, especially when she was about to try something new. Even though she wanted to be more reckless and possibly speed up the process, her personality did not allow her to do so for the time being; however, she did her best as she pushed everything she had gathered into the ground.

In an instant, all kinds of strangely shaped mushroom-like things began to pop all around; luckily, the radius was not too large, and it probably only reached Meiko a little. Some of them might not even be mushrooms because their shapes were inconsistent, wobbly, or just plain weird. All of the sizes were jumbled and mumbled. Some are as big as the girl, while others are as small as her pinky. The only good thing at this point was probably the quantity, as it was quite dense; perhaps from Meiko's perspective, An was hidden behind the things, because An herself couldn't see Meiko because some of the mushrooms blocked her view.

"Meiko-neesan, I think I'm getting it," she said, not sure if Meiko heard her, but as she was about to finish her sentence, the mushrooms vanished, "I guess I still need more practice". Her body sank to the ground as she felt a wave of exhaustion wash over her, as her chakra was depleted. She needed more practice, as she still couldn't control the amount, size, shape, duration, or placement of said jutsu. "Can I rest for a while?" she asked, needing to regain her strength.

RAISE YOUR BANNER, WON'T YOU COME

Something in the air changed. It was charged somehow, but not in the way her own raiton chakra crackled through the air, but rather it simply had a tinge of energy. Like the air in the aftermath of a chakra battle. Meiko held back a grin. Development was always a nice thing to witness, motivating and inspiring, even at this beginner level.  

Meiko would observe, taking in the sight of An collecting her chakra and then... She release all the stored up energy at once. A tremor was felt in the ground, slight, but there. Meiko smiled smugly. It worked. Fungi of all shapes and forms had sprung out of the ground and one even had sprouted up right by her left. It would be interesting to see if she would develop a large pool of chakra and what she could do with it. Forests of fungi danced across her mind. That would be interesting. Or perhaps she would-

She looked a little pale. Oh boy... Meiko grimaced and move to the girl, she had likely overdone it. Attempting to release a large amount of chakra twice rather rapidly in succession was not wise... But Meiko was likely the last person you should seek out for wise training advice, when you considered how she was willing to risk death and destruction of her body to improve and win a fight... Of course, she should have held back and better advised the girl. Man, I would not make a good teacher... Meiko was quick to catch An before she hit the ground, cradling in her arms for a moment before rising up, carrying the young kunoichi out of the field. 

"You did it, An. You relax a bit, you can try again later, hun."

There was no way she was bringing the exhausted student back into the academy, rather she would steer to the kaguya clan compound. She had some smaller military rations there, they should be able to do her some good. 

But maybe just half a pill. Or a quarter. Diluted in tea water, just to be safe. Meiko just wanted to make sure the girl was safe as she recovered and when Meiko was sure she could stand on her own and out of danger, she would let the girl out of her care. An would also know where to seek out Meiko if she should wish to do so in the future, then.

In a span of a moment, An’s body felt light like a feather as she lost all control of her limbs. Oh no! The girl knew she was falling but had no way of stopping it, as her body refused to listen to her, luckily for her, Meiko was incredibly quick in getting to the blue-haired youngster and catching her in her arms before An reached the ground. Which, to be honest, were quite soft yet sturdy. As she followed the older female's instructions and relaxed into her arms, An gathered all her strength to move the small muscles of her mouth's corners into a smile. Gradually drifting into a sleep of some sort.

When An had come by, she was taken aback by the abrupt change in the scene, as nature, forest, and sky were replaced by a slightly familiar architecture. Was this a Kaguya residence? How did she end up back in the Kaguya compound? Wait! She gathered her thoughts as she emerged from her dazed state, right, she was training with Meiko, she had overdone it a little... It appears she had collapsed, and Meiko had most likely moved her here.

She looked around the room, her still slightly tired eyes darting from one corner to the next; this place had a much more feminine feel to it than the previous house she had visited; that of Kaguya Kimihiro. And, of course, the homeowner was present; her long orange-colored hair was difficult not to notice, even in a somewhat frantic state of mind. An examined Meiko's graceful back carefully as she appeared to be preparing some sort of medicine, which An was to take in a few minutes.

The tea water with the medicine worked wonders, as the young girl was relieved of fatigue almost immediately, and any other negative alignment she felt before vanished as the smooth drink passed through her digestive system. "Thank you, Meiko-neesan!" she said, not forgetting to thank the older one. After a while, An was in good shape and ready to head home for the day, making a note to meet Meiko again the next day in the same location for some more proper training. As there was still a lot to do, proper chakra control, ensuring that the result was consistent, the shape and distance, and coverage were all properly controllable. "Then, see you tomorrow!" she bowed to Meiko as she exited the Kaguya compound and made her way home for the night.

An, surprisingly, slept like a baby. Her sleep had been so restful that she felt as if she had slept for a week straight. It must be the result of the tea water I drank yesterday! She got dressed, ate some breakfast, and went straight to the location where the two had agreed to meet up again. A deeper part of one of the Kirigakure forests, away from people and anything that could be harmed. Because no one was there yet, it appeared that An had arrived first; the girl would wait patiently. Stretching slightly and ensuring her chakra was running properly until Meiko arrived, ready to master this ability once and for all.

The time spent with the young Gure was sweet and a Meiko genuinely looked forward to meeting up with the girl the next morning. This time somewhere else. Somewhere far closer to nature and her roots. It was a bit of a secluded spot, but it was a nice space and it meant she could get in a training session before the meeting and her work shift. Meiko would play in the treetops, which would also be from which she would drop down and land a few paces away from the young Gure An.[break]

Meiko would regard her for a moment, a hand reaching behind her to twirl the red ponytail so no stray hairs were hanging over her shoulders. Her eyes were as sparkly as ever, it brought joy to be able to help this one and recall her own training years. Her own teachers had been different from the approach adopted by the village. But it did seem to be for the better. [break]

"I thought we would start out a little like yesterday, get our chakra moving and all before attempting it. How does that sound?"

She wouldn't mind getting her own chakra moving and spawning some bones, it had been a while since she had taken the time to do so without being in a fight. It could be meditative to a point. Something she was rather poor at, since everything had to be in motion. Always moving, always improving, but perhaps she should practice being still and attuned with her clan chakra.

An was taken aback when the older woman emerged in front of her, seemingly out of nowhere. "Good morning, Meiko-neesan," she said to the orange-haired girl, her own face being neatly framed by her light-colored hair. "Of course," An replied, "I think that is a very good idea," looking like both of them would start their lovely time together with that.

Because chakra control was something that all shinobi knew, and An had already practiced it a little before the other's unexpected arrival, her time executing it was rather smooth. She could feel something similar to water but not quite, running all throughout her body, reaching each and every area as she took her breath slowly and deliberately.

"Meiko-neesan, I think I am ready," the young, fair-skinned girl said first, breaking the serene stillness that surrounded the two girls. As she spoke to Meiko, she continued to stretch here and there, for the young shinobi valued not just agile chakra flow, but also an agile physique. "Should I do it the same way I did yesterday?" she questioned, just in case the Kaguya girl had other ideas or instructions; if not, An would step away from her and start over.

Meiko nodded in response towards An when she indicated that she was ready, smiling briefly to her.

"Alright, then you may begin. Yes, the same way." It had not been perfect before, so perhaps it would be best that she repeat the same method now to try and get better at what she had already established as the main method of her techniques production. Using her own chakra was still on her mind, though, so she had been almost distracted in some regard when An had inquired on whether she should start her training again.

Still, Meiko realized that she had promised that she would help An train - which ultimately meant focusing less on her own desires and what her student needed in the moment.

So with the idea that they would begin their chakra exercise as before, Meiko started to cultivate the chakra in her core where all chakra seemed to be born. A source of life but also power.

"When you a ready, allow your chakra to flow out, be confident in it, but also do not let it go without control. This can prove dangerous." Any sense of chakra control was important for a shinobi, even for a shinobi who had a large pool to borrow upon.

An focused her attention on gathering her chakra once again, determined to make progress in her chakra control. Closing her eyes, An focused on her chakra, feeling its presence within her. It was like a gentle, flowing stream, ready to be harnessed and directed. She visualized the path it would take, from her core to her fingertips. She followed Meiko's instructions, allowing her energy to flow and build up within her. The familiar sensation of power surged through her, and this time, she felt a stronger connection to her chakra than before.

With newfound confidence, An began to release her chakra, directing it toward the ground. She visualized the mushrooms sprouting, their unique shapes and sizes forming in her mind. As she extended her hand towards the earth, she could almost feel the energy transfer, a tingling sensation traveling from her fingertips. It was a delicate balance, like walking on a tightrope. Too much force and it would spiral out of control. Too little, and nothing would happen.

And then, it happened. The ground beneath An's hand trembled slightly, a sign that her chakra was having an effect. Excitement surged through her veins as she saw tiny buds beginning to emerge from the soil. They were not fully formed mushrooms yet, but the consistency, quantity, and size were incomparable to what she had created just yesterday, as such it was progress nonetheless. But just as quickly as they appeared, the sprouts withered and faded away. Confusion washed over An, and she turned to Meiko with a mix of disappointment and curiosity.

"Meiko-neesan," An began, her voice tinged with frustration. "I almost had it. Why do you think they disappeared? Was my control not strong enough, or did I miss something crucial in the process? How do you feel when you use and control your clan’s ability?" She wanted to follow Meiko’s advice about proper chakra control as close as possible and not repeat yesterday’s mistake of over-releasing her chakra.

An's mind raced with questions. She hoped that the other female could shed some light on what went wrong.

Meiko watched for a little bit, mostly focusing on letting her own chakra flow inside of her body. But ultimately her interest fell upon An once more somewhere towards the end, where An had managed to create a strip of fungi. It was not fully successful, and the girl voiced her frustration soon enough. Meiko examined where the chakra had left its mark, it was interesting that she was struggling, academy students did struggle, after all, but in this case she was wondering why she was having these issues since it could be akin to that of an academy technique.

Meiko got a little closer to An's creation, examining it but not touching it, she did not know what these fungi could do to her long term so she simply aired on the side of caution - especially since they were creations from a child who was not yet a master of these things.

Alas the mushrooms started to fade soon after she got close, and her lips pursed a bit as she thought it over. She looked up then towards An looking at the girl quietly as she considered her reply, it had to be helpful.

"It feels like a careful stream, careful but endless. Techniques often require maintenance, if you cease the flow it will disappear. Some things may not require your constant attention but it seems like here it does, constant, or more. Chakra can be like a hose, you must control the flow out of a singular output. The output must be squeezed to have less come out, or fully unstopped for more. If you want a bigger technique, more must be pushed out. For your creations to come out and stay you may need more chakra or a constant steady stream. This is my guess about what may be missing, lets try once more. You may feel tired after attempting this again especially if you push your body to put out more chakra than you are accustomed to."
