Choosing to limit themselves to a handicap using only Taijutsu mainly, he does so in order to train not only his endurance but ability to close in and land a physical blow. Intending on using it as practice on how to deal with pain and injuries as well as for a technique he is learning, experiencing his first taste of Genjutsu he is soundly defeated by the more experienced Genin and left with some words of wisdom on how to adjust themselves and act accordingly. Taking the words to heart as she takes him into the hospital for treatment.

Coming to it and the crew's defense, the two battled against the pirate schooner defeating and capturing what was left of the marauders after a short battle. Stepping up in terms of responsibility as his teammate and senior falls ill due to health complications the Uzumaki oversees the return trip and gives a full report on the happenings of the mission as well as turning in the captured vessel alongside its cargo of ill begotten gains to the appropriate authorities.

Over the course of their journey they remain vigilant yet not much happens besides some in depth talks about their future, deepening their bond past merely master and student to peers in friendly rivalry and competition with one another. Ataru is even afforded a special gift from his Master in anticipation of his promotion.
