After the Raikage’s speech, a massive man of the Fujiyama clan would step forward to take over the nitty-gritty of moving the days’ events along: some of the genin from group C would recognize him as the "trapped” man who had lain in the road beneath his toppled cart the day prior. When the previous fight concluded, he cleared his throat to announce the second of the day's fights. "Next up! Ishikawa Ren of Amegakure! Versus! Daredemo of Konohagakure!” Ren and Daredemo both had exchanged their scrolls for a single ration pill each, which had been given to them privately to tuck away and use as they saw fit. There were two vivid yellow stripes painted onto the hard-packed dirt ground of the arena about twenty meters apart: designated starting zones for each of the genin to stand on. They would be instructed to bow, and then the countdown for the round to start would begin. "Three… …two… …one… Begin!” ISHIKAWA REN VS. DAREDEMO

DAREDEMO Ishikawa Ren

    Daredemo stared ahead at Ren. The person was certainly familiar, this was one of his partner's in the first round? Now his enemy. Well, in many ways, always his enemy. That headband had made them enemies far before they entered the battlefield today. Even when they were working together they both knew that something like this was inevitable. The final round of the exams would always end up like this, would it not? Was it really worth it to teach them all about camaraderie just to have them fight like this the very next day? Daredemo honestly didn't know what his true opinion on that was just yet.

    "Hey Ren!" Daredemo would shout out, loud enough that it was likely many in the stands could hear as well, "I liked working with you in the first round. But unfortunately, to get to the Bird Brain, I need to go through you. No hard feelings right?" 

    In response, Daredemo would sign 3 seals, and he would go from one to three of himself. He always liked fighting with clones, and these clones always added a benefit to his attack patterns. His clones would rush out ahead of him, so that he could keep his eyes on Ren's reaction. Until he needed to do more to attack, his clones could handle themselves as they rushed in on either side of their target. The one to Ren's left would send a simple hook towards his head, while the one to his right would drop into a slide, looking to kick Ren's legs out from underneath him.

NAME: Katon: Kaibunshin no Jutsu [Fire Release: Cinder Clone Technique]

DESCRIPTION:
Either through creating or using pre-existing ash, the caster of this technique heats and manipulates ashes into physical and solid clones with a tangible mass. Sister jutsu to the Hai Bunshin, these clones are a direct improvement. Capable of interacting with their environment. Though not as durable as some other clones, and incapable of performing jutsu, when dispersed, they burst into a hot pile of ashes, hence their namesake.

     Bird brain? he thought, smiling. He had no clue who that might be, though he imagined it was probably a Konoha shinobi. "No hard feelings!" he called out after he bowed. Ren immediately pulled out his katana and prepared for Daredemo's assault.

     He was feeling well now, better than he had been last night, so chakra usage wouldn't be an issue. He eyed his opponent, getting into the zone to be ready to dodge or deflect at a moment's notice. He wasn't enough of a strategist to plan far in advance, and it seemed insulting to his opponents not to go all out, anyway.

     Ren watched intently as Daredemo weaved his seals and the clones sprinted forth, headed for each side of him. They were fast - for a moment, he was reminded of his spar with Akirei. But he was better equipped now to deal with that kind of speed. Katana tightly clutched, he steadied his stance as they approached and timed his counter using the extra beat his sharpened reflexes bought him.

     As the first clone's fist headed for his head, he dropped low and rapidly performed a rear spinning low kick - with katana outstretched, to hopefully clip the first - to strike the other with his leg before it completed its' slide into him.

DAREDEMO Ishikawa Ren

    Quick reactions. That was gonna be a problem. But something about his reactions, he wasn't happy with how fast Daredemo's clones could move. Daredemo wasn't certain, but he was confident enough in his assumption that he had a speed advantage. He didn't recall any big feats of speed from the first round. he did seem to recall the boy having some kind of movement ability to be scared of, but it wasn't a running speed like Daredemo's own.

    If he could finish things off quickly though, then Ren wouldn't have the chance to activate an ability like that. A smirk formed on his face as he Ren did precisely what Daredemo had expected him to. Destroying those cinder clones wouldn't be hard, he'd honestly have been pretty disappointed if that had been enough to shake the man. But destroying them wasn't a great idea when one was so close as the clones exploded into burning ash. That alone would cause some damage to the extremities that made contact with the clones. 

    Daredemo had little intention at stopping at "some" damage. The remaining ash was a benefit in it's own rights even if it hadn't done damage. It was the perfect conduit to carry out an immediate follow-up attack. A strategy he wanted to use in the first round before he had called for the ceasefire. Three more handseals would follow mere moments after the clones had been destroyed. The burning ash in the air and on the ground began to form into sharp needles. Ten ashen senbon would be formed, all aimed right at Ren's center mass.

NAME: Katon: Hai Senbon no Jutsu [Fire Release: Ash Senbon Technique]

DESCRIPTION:
An incredibly basic form of chakra and nature transformation, this Jutsu allows for the caster to form or use pre existing ash and manipulate its shape into that of needles. Around ten ash needles can then be either exhaled or launched towards their target, or at maximum twenty with a large enough pre existing source of ash. The senbon are hot, and as a result inflict internal burning against the targets they embedd in. When struck hard enough, the ash loses its solid form, turning into a hot pile of ashes. Useful for creating ash for further Ash related techniques.

     The ash hadn't come as much surprise - the clones Daredemo had used earlier in the first round had done the same when dispersed, but the quantity and heat of these dwarfed those from back then. Ren grimaced, feeling the hot ashes scatter around him. Got to dodge, he thought. That, or keep the fight at a longer distance - something he might have trouble with.

     As soon as they'd exploded into ash, he was already forming a one-handed seal. With the second, he 'fell' into the earth mid-spin. Twenty meters was decently far - farther than this jutsu could travel, he knew. Daredemo though, wouldn't. For a moment it was silent as the senbon lodged into the ground where he'd just been.

     Probably thinks I'm closing in, he thought as he traveled. Ren formed another handseal as he prepared to surface. A number of meters to the right and closer to Daredemo than he'd been before, Ren erupted from the ground in a spray of dirt.

     Singed, with katana half-buried beside him, he used another Doton ninjutsu to transform the floating debris and chunks of the ground into several Hira-style shuriken that flew forward at Daredemo, with an explosive tag that'd been sneakily slapped onto one of the chunks half peeled off, half buried.

     Ren landed, yanked his weapon out and ran forward diagonally to chase his opponent down.

DAREDEMO Ishikawa Ren

    Already the reaction speed was getting annoying for Daredemo. He thought he had it there in the surprise senbon assault, unfortunately it seemed like the burning ash had solidified the opponent's idea to run. It did mean that Daredemo got a far better look at the technique that was beginning to worry him. His opponent fading into the earth itself. That was certainly concerning. Daredemo didn't feel incredibly confident trying to run from it, he felt he was better pressed to simply ready himself to attack whenever he popped up. Wether that was underneath him or not. 
    
    Daredemo readied a kunai with an explosive attached. He wanted this done quickly, and a massive explosion in his opponent's direct vicinity would certainly do that. What Dare was far less prepared for was his opponent barely closing the distance. A few meters at best.

    Not enough proof yet, he could be trying to lull me into complacency. 

    Daredemo filed that detail away for later. For now, he needed to deal with the incoming projectiles. Taking them all out would be... difficult. Sending them all off course with one explosion? Far easier. Daredemo sent his shuriken out to meet the swarm coming his way. His hands letting out another set of 3 seals as they flew. In a mere instance dozens of balls of ash began to hover in the air around the arena. A moment later, a massive explosion would ring out.

    "Oh you sneak. That's way bigger than just my explosive! You were going for a big one! I'll return the favor." Daredemo didn't draw his sword, not yet. The appearance of the floating balls of ash, which Ren should remember to be explosive from their first round encounter, would hopefully slow his movements just a bit. What would likely slow his movements even more was the constant sight of explosive tags on the ground around him. Always just out of view, always gone when he tried to focus on them.

    It was more so to try and draw his attention away from the glowing wisps themselves. As Daredemo would form another pair of hand seals, and any of the ones that Ren was coming close to would begin to glow brighter before blowing up. Explosions would continue to disrupt his attempt at closing in on Daredemo, as Daredemo himself continued to stand in place for now.

Developed from Katon: Shikai after doing the handseals the user channels chakra to create numerous floating wisps of burning ash in a diameter of one hundred meters. The size of the wisp is about the size of a golf ball and after being created they don’t do anything more than just float in the position they have appeared in. Since they are made of burning ash touching them could cause minor burn though the special thing about them is that after doing another hand seals the user could ignite them and make them burn hotter allowing them to cause up to second agree burns.

Hōmatsu Jokei is an extremely simple Genjutsu that affects perception. Hōmatsu Jōkei Upon hearing the words "explosive" the target will begin to randomly begin noticing the traditional explosive tag in various places around their peripheral vision. The moment they focus on that spot, it is gone. This is only an applicable technique for those with ground around them for a feasible tag to be placed on, meaning those in the air will be free from the technique's torment. The point of the Genjutsu is to put the target in a sense of paranoia, and to focus on possible danger rather than the actual danger

     Trying to keep me away, Ren thought as the balls of ash appeared around the battlefield. They didn't move, so their function as 'mines,' of a sort, was fairly obvious. Ren kept his eyes on Daredemo, flicking between the ash orbs in order to figure out a good path - but as his gaze shifted, he noticed explosive tags littering the ground that disappeared as he focused on them.

     He knew enough about Genjutsu to make some guesses immediately - explosive tags didn't disappear on their own - or, as far as he knew, appear like that. Daredemo had made three handseals, so at most this was the result of two, or probably one or zero. Visual or auditory didn't narrow it much, but he guessed Daredemo didn't want him closing the distance and engaging in a melee fight.

     A distraction, most likely, then. Ren had already set his mind on a plan - get in close. They seemed to be a Katon specialist, sure, but that'd didn't make them like Hotarubi - Daredemo wouldn't be immune to their own explosions, Ren figured. If he could get in their face, they'd either disable them or risk getting hurt as well.

     But if he were to clear the ash blockages and fight up close, there was no guarantee his opponent wouldn't be able to set some real tags, while his eyes were averted, especially since they'd displayed clones. He'd need to get rid of the Genjutsu to proceed safely.

     So, sword in right hand, Ren exclaimed "Kai!" and formed a one-handed seal with his left. But the seal was not for genjutsu escape - but rather to place one of his own, the Double Vision technique, to make his approach safer and to hamper Daredemo's ability to fight up close, betting that the reveal of Kai, and one-handed seals, would prompt his opponent's attention.

     A second handseal activated Kai, clearing his vision of tags. Ren's hand darted into his bag and fished out shuriken, hoping they'd prove enough to preemptively explode the ash balls. He darted straight at Daredemo, throwing out shuriken at only those obstacles close enough to block his path or risk being hurt if they exploded near to him.

DAREDEMO Ishikawa Ren

    This guy was smart. Identifying the genjutsu that quickly, it was disappointing for Daredemo. Maybe he should have just stuck with the wisps themselves. This fight was dragging more than Daredemo had hoped it would, but if the man wanted to bring it in close, than Daredemo was more than happy to oblige. On his own terms. 

    "Wanna conserve for the next round? Blades only?" Daredemo shouted out as he dismissed his ashen jutsu. Wisps falling to the ground one after the other as the other competitor rushed in to face Daredemo head on. Demo was confident in his sword skills, far more confident in that then most other skills he had. Even as a generalist he liked to make sure he was living up to his brother's legacy, after all. And so he'd bring his blade out, wielding it with both hands. Ready to block any attack that came towards him. 

    "Heck, if you want we can do it with training rules. First to land a blow wins. Up to you though, I'll probably just keep blowing you up if not." the laugh that followed was somewhere stuck between a childish joke and a sadistic glee, even Dare wasn't fully sure which was the stronger motivator. But he knew that for now, getting into the next round is what truly mattered. And so when his opponent got close enough, Dare was ready with a slash of the blade going diagonally across the torso.

     Ren simply smiled. "Nah," he said as he darted in and met Daredemo's slash with his own blade, flooding the katana in Doton chakra to ensure his opponent couldn't cut through the blade or shatter it, in case their sword was specially crafted. "I'd win anyway."

     Despite being a minor effect, Ren felt confident that the double vision of the simple Genjutsu he'd cast on Daredemo earlier would make up for any disparity in skill, if there was one. But getting to the next round was more important to him than conserving chakra, and his chances of winning were best if he didn't restrict himself. Opponents only offered handicaps when it would benefit them, besides.

     With a quick backstep and well-timed movements, Ren formed a one-handed seal that caused chunks of earth to rise up and form into six large and sharp shuriken which shot forward in a semi-circle at Daredemo.

     He immediately followed them with a lunging thrust of his sword at Daredemo's chest, hoping the double vision technique would make a pinpoint attack harder to dodge or deflect, and that his opponent would be further constrained by what now appeared to be twelve sharp stone shuriken that would shred them if they tried dodging into their path.

DAREDEMO Ishikawa Ren

     "Confidence doesn't read well when you're running from the challenge" Daredemo smirked as the opponent gave him their answer. It was the smart choice, and Dare4demo was sure that was why they made it, but trying to say that they'd win the sword fight? It only made Daredemo far more confident that they wouldn't, and so he had his answer on how to proceed forward.

    Daredemo was trying to get a read on his opponent, yet he was seeing double. He hadn't taken any damage yet, and Daredemo had never had issues with his eyesight before. This had to be a genjutsu of some kind. Daredemo didn't have kai, he'd need to think of another way out of it. His opponent rushed in, and around him he saw 12 shuriken sprouting from the earth.

    Seeing double... 12 becomes 6, split the difference. Their real position had to be about halfway between whatever he was seeing. But it was hard to tell which one was supposed to be connected to which other one, they could be so doubled their crossing over each other. 

    Far more important was the blade coming his way. A piercing strike, too narrow to try and dodge or block normally... large swipe, block the whole area. Daredemo's strategic mind worked a mile a minute to try and see what would come next. He didn't fully know what to do with the shuriken, but he knew what to do with the sword, even if he couldn't see it properly. One large swipe upwards, in a straight line. Even if he didn't know which of the two swords to target, he would block both with the slash. and it leave time for Daredemo to kick his opponent back with one of his legs, just looking to create a bit of distance.

    He'd push forward, not back, trying his best to push himself out of the path of those stone shuriken. Not getting hit by all 6, but still taking a glancing blow from 2 or 3 of them. A gash in his arm, another in his leg. Blood immediately flowing from both. Painful, very painful. It did allow some benefit however, as Daredemo looked out and saw Ren finally collapsing back into one man.

    And Daredemo's response was nearly immediate once again. The young boy would rush forward and apply the pressure as he took more slices, the moment one slash ended he'd turn the blade back to continue slashing once again, going full speed ahead with his sword in hand.

     The kick shoved Ren back, who huffed as he struggled to pull his blade back into position after it'd been knocked upward by Daredemo. He'd barely enough time to get both hands on the katana and back into position before his opponent closed the distance and laid into him with a barrage of fast, skillful strikes.

     It was all Ren could do to reflexively block as he backpedaled from the assault. Daredemo was more skilled than him in this sort of combat, after all, and Ren was simply glad he'd been able to injure them before. With the double vision gone, Ren was clearly at a disadvantage in sword to sword.

     His priority now was to simply bide time - Daredemo's injuries would continue to bleed, and if Ren could play keep-away for long enough, they might run out of chakra before they could catch him. The speed would be an issue, though.

     Distraction, then. Ren was on the backfoot, getting pushed back by Daredemo's superior speed and skill. Even with good timing, getting out wouldn't be easy without getting hurt. So, at the best time as he could manage, he instead dropped his hand to his pouch while Daredemo's sword was on his left, and shoved into him as hard as he could.

     His sword ran up Ren's and dug into his left shoulder, to which he grunted in pain, but he had barely managed to get out a smoke bomb in the brief window. Pushing off Daredemo's side, he escaped into the rapidly growing smoke cloud that surrounded them. Switching direction in the cloud, he came out of the southeast edge of the smoke.

     Pulling off his white shirt, stained with red down the upper left arm, he threw it in the dirt and quickly cut a length of bandage and hastily wrapped it loosely around the wound and tied it off. Poor job, but he had little time, he knew. Sheathing his sword, he pulled two kunai out to prepare for Daredemo's coming out of the smoke cloud.

DAREDEMO Ishikawa Ren

     Keeping things up close and personal was definitely a good plan. Daredemo was a cocky child, he was certainly aware of that, but this competitor wasn't a sword master. Ren clearly had a basic understanding of weaponry, but he wasn't a swordsman specifically, the basics weren't going to be enough when up against someone trained in swords like Daredemo. The teaching he had received from Riku when he was alive, and the teachers in the academy as well, all combined to make this a good order of events, Daredemo just needed to go faster, strike harder.

    And then the smoke bomb landed. 

    Sightless, but not under attack. His opponent couldn't see in the ash either, likely retreating. Daredemo couldn't track it, would have to make a guess. Take a moment to asses, to recover.  
    
    It seemed he could take a moment to mask something from his opponent. He knelt down and dressed his wounds. Rough, quick, but he didn't know how long his opponent would let him delay things. Then he took the boon he had been gifted, a ration pill. He consumed it and took in the moment to shake out the cobwebs. It didn't mean too much for now, but it would let him keep going for now. 

    One final preperation was made before he emerged from the smoke, a kunai, with an explosive tag attached to it. His blade still drawn in his left hand, the kunai in his left. Daredemo emerged from the smoke from the north east side. Hoping that his opponent would have kept their retreat primarily in the reverse, not expecting them to have turned around. He found his way back to them quickly and rushed in their direction, his kunai sent their direction immediately, ready to explode the moment it connected the ground near them.

     Ren was prepared when his opponent emerged from around the side of the smoke cloud. As he'd expected, their sword was in hand - clearly, they were still adamant on closing the distance. The explosive tag in their other was flung right as they came into vision, but Ren's wariness meant his feet were already off the ground when the kunai'd left Daredemo's hand.

     He lept up and back, launched his two kunai to intercept the path of Daredemo's. From a higher vantage, and with the kunai already slightly aimed downwards toward the ground, his on-and-off training in shurikenjutsu made it an easy target - but to be sure, he threw another in case he missed, or to pin the tag to the ground.

     But even with honed reflexes, Daredemo's throw had been faster than his, and by the time his kunai clanged off and redirected it down into the ground, it'd already covered half the distance between them. The explosion rocked the arena and caused the ground to shudder.

     The force blew the smoke cloud up into the stands, and the shockwave threw Ren backwards in mid-air. He barely managed to land on his feet, draw another two kunai and two tags, and start running diagonally away from Daredemo. The smoke cloud was gone now, so there'd be no hiding there. Even if he simply ran, his opponent would catch up soon enough.

     He threw the kunai, one with an explosive tag, and another with a flash bomb, to the front left and front right of Daredemo, respectively. In the small window of time the explosion and the distractions bought, he yoinked out his sword and a fuinjutsu brush. Hurriedly, he scrawled a small seal on one of the rear-facing edges of the sword and assumed a stance with his katana held overhead, waiting for Daredemo to approach, his eyes narrowed.

     "I don't plan on losing," Ren said with a grimace. "you could always give up and go home to Konoha, before you get hurt."

     "There's no shame in admitting you've been one upped by someone 10 years your younger," Daredemo's smirk only grew as he saw the explosion sound off. Things were getting intense now, and Daredemo needed to en things quickly. He couldn't let his opponent see that though. This fight had certainly been dragging for some time, and things were getting warn down for both of them, Daredemo didn't need to know much to know that even if this person had better control of their chakra, or deeper wells to pull from, they were feeling some resistance after such a long slog the past day and a half.

    The extra flash bomb and the explosive were something to be cocerned about, he scrambled for a moment as he gathered his vision, but his opponent still seemed to be mostly preparing for him, his blade drawn. Daredemo knew by now that this one could use their jutsu with just one hand, did Daredemo know how to do that? He had started training some singe-handed seals with Miroru, but it hadn't been long enough to truly log in. He was going to have to rely on something without seals. He was going to have to do something to end this soon. 

    As he continued his dash in on the opponent, finally closing the distance between the two, he was ready for another battle of blades, with something else up his sleeve.

    One handed with the blade, he would form a cluster of ash in the palm of his off arm, and as he sent out the slash, he would watch for the block and send his ash straight towards the eyes of his opponent. If landed, then the searing pain would be the first thing noticed as Ren tried to clear his vision.

    Quickly after he'd see that there was no clearing his vision without some actual medical attention. With a hopefully blinded opponent, Daredemo's swings would target the arm holding the blade, aiming straight for the wrist, looking to swiftly disarm.

     "No hard feelings, right?" Ren said with a smirk of his own as he saw the ash form in Daredemo's hand. His left hand immediately came off the hilt of his katana and formed into the unique one-handed seal of the Shadow Clone Technique.

     He hadn't wanted to have to use the technique until the very end of the exams, if he ever made it, but Ren was adamant about winning. Whatever it takes. He'd worked hard to get here in the first place, and just as hard in the previous two rounds. He wouldn't accept anything less than a complete victory here, even if it took the rest of his chakra.

     Two more Rens popped into existence, blades at the ready. But the attack'd been too fast, and despite Ren whipping his head and trying to duck down, the ash struck him and exploded. The blast scorched both himself and Daredemo, with Ren tumbling down and to the left as the hot ash burnt his shoulder, neck, and the right side of his face.

     Reflexively wiping ash from his right eye, which to his dismay, he could no longer see out of, Ren rolled down and out of the way as he shook off the ash. His clones rushed in to take his place - the first stepped forward towards Daredemo and blocked their attack with a vertical stroke - blade upside down, left hand bracing the lower backside.
