Second Exam: Team A Sand & Leaf @ Landing Escaping the maze both contestants would be lead up very similar paths. The stair well would wind up to a large concrete room, it'd appear to have many roots cracking up the interior. Both the ground and walls appearing to be cracked by this wildlife. It'd be no surprise of this or the fact the roof was an odd bark like tone, as the contestants would be lead down a hall leading to the outside world. The earlier room which all mazes lead to would be built under or more appropriately into a tree. This tree in order to house such a room, halls and stair wells to the mazes would be massive. It stood likely as high as a skyscraper and appeared to be relatively straight upwards, a massive branching system at the top, but mostly hidden by the green leafs of the tree. Miho and Asahi would both be lead to a platform, it was a mere wooden platform, situated directly next to the trunk of the tree. Little would they know three other platforms similar to theirs was at each side of the tree. There'd be two yellow lines drawn up the bark of the tree, as if to almost create a straight path upwards. It'd however not be the much space, it'd be about a fifteen meter gap between the two yellow lines. There'd appear to be different bands to the tree too, but it was hard to distinguish what was up ahead from down below. Miho arriving to the platform first, she'd have to wait a decent amount of time for the other contestant to arrive. He'd be lead by the same man, she'd been lead by a fact clarified by one of them vanishing in smoke. A clone. "Welcome to the next stage of the exams, I'll announce the full objective of this exam once all participants are readied. So please get acquainted, you two will be a team for the next test." The man would state in a joyous manner with a slight chuckle. It was possibly luck which brought allies together, but it was definitely interesting to see if it'd have any effect on the exams to come.

Step after step the boy would rise from the maze into the unknown, following the man who had been there to greet him after the illusion was finally dispelled. If even for a moment or two it felt great to not have the pressures of figuring out which direction to take and wondering if a chosen path would lead to an exit or dead end. Asahi only wished that he had been able to spend a bit less chakra down there, especially in the final room, as he was definitely feeling the effects of fighting two wild boar and a genjutsu. Oh, and bandages. He was doing his best to stifle the bleeding on his arm by applying pressure on the wound with his shirt, but it would take time for it to clot. Well, at least he wouldn't be leaking all over the floor.

In time the Suna genin would reach the top of the stairs and into a room heavily touched by nature. Roots snaked through the walls and ceiling as if they were within a tree itself. Spectacled eyes would shift to another presence in the room, two, actually. One was an exact copy of the man who had led him out of the maze --these guys sure loved their clones-- and the other was a girl he recognized from the entrance ceremony. The man, or clone, it wasn't quite clear, explained that they were going to be a team for the next part of the exams while leading them to a platform outside of the room at the base of a ridiculously large tree. It towered above the tallest building Asahi could even think of and was honestly a bit intimidating. He prayed that they wouldn't have to climb it, or even worse have to perform some mundane tasks while traversing it.

With time until the start of the test the man mentioned an opportunity for the two genin to get to know each other. Shifting his focus to the girl the Suna shinobi would offer a firm nod and a "Hey how's it going?". Best not to get too chummy else risk loosing focus on the impending task ahead.

Second Exam

When the older male had brought her to this point, she found that her time waiting had been quite daunting. If anything, being alone upon a platform and before a tree allowed her some moments of reflection. If anything else, it did encourage the thought that in the end, she had indeed arrived first and had mastered the maze at the starting point. Yet now appeared to be a new challenge, leading to her continuing to examine the tree trunk and much of its wildlife, soon leading to her further treating her previous wound as she held her hand and massaged it gently beneath the now somewhat stained bandage tape. It was upon that time that another double of her guide appeared, along with that of the Suna-nin that had been at the opening ceremony for the first part of the examinations. While her expression remained blank, she would hear of the notion that they were to be partners in this, and that he would explain the next part of the exam once everyone had arrived. This brief reprieve did give the two a chance to talk, leading to the boy speaking first with a greeting. As she looked at him, her smile would come back as she bowed her head towards him. "Pretty well...considering the first part of this being over..." Speaking kindly, she would then note the injury on his arm, reaching into her bag as she began to draw out some more bandage tape as she looked at him calmly. "I think you might want to get that treated before we begin...I'm a medic...I can wrap it for you to help relieve at least some discomfort. The last thing you want is for it to become infected or worse..." The offer was quite genuine, not only because they were a team, but that she had taken an oath to heal. Second Exam: Team A Sand & Leaf @ Landing There'd be adequate time to trade words, a few sentence and maybe a little personal preparation like applying medical aid. Afterwards though the man who'd lead them to the platforms would clear his throat. A spoken signal was sent to a receiver in his ear, he'd be informed that everyone was now in position. It'd be time for the second exam, there'd be not a great amount of time. Nothing worthy of stamina recovery, so the drains of the maze would still be in full effect. "Alright, I need both your attention." He'd start as to make sure they were listening. "Above me are three platforms, it's your goal to be the first team to the last platform. Between each platform will be a type of obstacle, it'll be your goal to devise and successfully concur these obstacles in the fastest manner possible. A race between the other teams to be exact, so there's no specific time limit other than the one you set for the other team." He'd explain the goal of the next exam, it was to be a race a race straight up the tree. Probably not the most appealing idea, but it was another stamina draining trial. There was however more than objectives to the race, there'd be rules which the man would go over next. "With that in mind, I'd like to explain the rules of this team race. These yellow boarder lines aren't to be crossed, you've got a lane you're stuck to just like the other teams. All forms of flight are banned for this test on the off chance you have a means to fly. As it's a team race, it's imperative you both make it up the platforms, your race time is based on whoever makes it up last." These were the key rules of the race. "If you have any questions ask them now, as they're will be a minute given to do so, then the race will begin." The man would end his dialogue, as he'd sort of step to the side and gesture to the tree for thought. It'd be looking straight up the trunk one would be able to see what appeared to be another wooden platform a third or so up the tree. Between it and the present platform appeared to be no jutting obstacle. Instead there only appeared to be a vast system of vines tightly clinging to the tree. One might assume it actually for climbing, but someone with medical knowledge would be able to note these vines are poisonous. Though not deadly. So he wasn't the only one thankful to be out of the maze, that was a relief. It was easily in his most trying times to be sure and Asahi was done with dungeon like aesthetics for the foreseeable future. The girl would take notice of the cut on his arm and offer to bandage it up for him. "Oh, yeah that'd be great. Thanks." He'd reply before offering up his arm for whatever his new teammate needed to do. He'd feel pretty crappy if they couldn't finish because of a bum arm and he'd make a mental note to invest in a small medical kit once he got back home for situations just like this. "Oh, um, I'm Asahi by the way."

The man would get their attention before explaining the second test. It was a team race up the tree that was of course filled with all types of obstacles that they would have to clear. It was both similar and a little different than the race and would require a great need to adapt on the fly if they wanted to get to the top first. Working with teams back in Suna was a little different since he had the time to plan things out and were a lot more comfortable with each others styles; all Asahi knew about this woman was that she was a medic. This would perhaps be more troublesome than the maze. They'd have to stay within the lines which meant avoiding obstacles was going to be near impossible, hence the no flying rule. Wait... people could fly?! Questions for another day.

Asahi would think for a few moments to see if anything stuck out that needed clarification, but it seemed pretty straightforward which not have been the best thing considering how in the maze that was usually a recipe for disaster. "I can't really think of anything." He'd say before waiting for his teammate to speak. Maybe something had caught her attention during the explanation. When all was said and done the man would direct their attention to the trunk of the tree where they'd begin. It was covered in numerous vines that could probably used for climbing, again straightforward, but considering they were plants and this place was filled with all manner of poisonous stuff it might not have been best to touch them. He'd have to thank Toshiro for the tour and information.

"Adachi Miho..." With a smile on her face, the girl began to work on helping to wrap the boy's arm as she soon found her attention turned towards that of their proctor. Considering what was to come next, she found herself raising a brow before continuing to listen to the instructions for the next part of their exams. It was apparently going to be a race between another team of participants, leading to the requirement of them having to work together as a means to get to the top. Three platforms with different obstacles awaited them though, so that would be the true test in getting there first, otherwise, it would be a simple run for all of them. As he waited for them to ask any questions, Miho would soon finish with her work upon the Suna's arm her eyes closed with a smile on her face before returning it to a serious expression as she spoke towards the older male. "Do we have permission to use any means possible to ascend? So long as we remain within the yellow barrier?" In asking this, the girl would continue to look on, nodding in agreement towards Asahi's assessment that they should avoid touching any plants during their race. "Agreed...in fact...now that I'm getting a closer look..they appear to be a more toxic verison of poison ivy...touching it or even trying to burn it will cause it react with a release of defensive odor that can choke out  anyone in a matter of seconds..." Second Exam: Team A Sand & Leaf @ Landing Ample time given for the wound to be patched the man would reply to the girls question. "Well anything but flying of course." He didn't know if he needed to repeat that part, but just to be cautious and make sure she heard it he'd state it again. It was the only really manner of cheating that the village had devised, he supposed they shouldn't be chopping the tree down either, but severely doubted any genin would be capable of that. Especially after the maze zapped most the contestants chakra reserves. Miho observing the vines more closely would reveal their nature, as they were quite akin to normal poison ivy. A vine which wasn't supposed to be touched, as it'd cause severe rashes that over time would become quite gross and distracting with an horrible itch. This would be the same for the plant and cutting into it, would merely increase that risk, as well as burning it would be the worst. As what would normally require touch to effect the person would instead be within the smoke of the fire, thus allowing the rash to happen within a persons lungs. A feat that could prove fatal. Placing a finger to his ear the man would be given the word to go. "Ah, it seems the time has come now. I wish you the best of luck in this race. May the race begin!" He'd announce before disappearing in a puff of smoke, he'd apparently just been another clone. There'd be now nothing, but the climb between the participants and their goal. Who'd use the vines knowing they're poisonous? Little choice was offered, but maybe they could find some way past without touching. SPOILER: Click to show Race is beginning now.

Miho, that'd be an easy name to remember. The genin would allow the woman to tend to his wounds all the while thankful that he had been paired with a medic less he bleed out before making it up the tree. Granted, it wasn't a particularly deep cut --he had made sure to avoid that-- but knew that any exertion would only increase the rate at which the blood would flow out of his cut; and getting knocked out in such a way was almost irredeemable. Alas, the shinobi didn't have to think about such things and only now had to worry about how they were going to get up to the first platform.

His partner was almost insistent on finding a loophole to the no flying rule, and the old man simply reiterated that any form of flight was the only method not allowed. Was that a problem past chunin exams had to deal with? Questions for later. The vines were the problem now and thankfully both of them had been able to identify that they were not to be trusted. While they didn't look particularly resistant to cutting, getting close with kunai or other weapons would put them in harms way of coming into contact, and Miho's wariness of using fire to burn them, while sound, put a slight damper on the Kyokujitsu who was more than willing to spend a bit of chakra to incinerate the pesky plants.

A few more moments would pass before the proctor would signal the start of the second phase of the exams and disappear in a puff of smoke. These people loved their clones. The clock was ticking and they needed a plan of action, quickly. If they couldn't touch, cut, or burn the vines then how exactly were they going to progress? A conundrum indeed.

The Suna genin thought about how he would traverse the tree if the vines weren't there, and then an idea came to mind. "Do you think tree walking would work? The layer of chakra should shield us from actually touching the vines, in addition to our shoes." He'd inquire to his teammate. It made sense in theory, but there was always a possibility that he hadn't accounted for something.

The time had come for the race to begin, leading to the teen looking over towards the proctor before the man vanished within smoke. With a blank expression, the short-haired female would then return her attention towards the task at hand. How were they to ascend to the next platform? With the issue of the vines present, it would certainly be challenging to avoid touching them. Of course, that was when Asahi seemed to come to a possible solution. Tree-climbing, using a protective coating of chakra to protect their feet from contact with the dangerous plant life. "It could work in theory...risky but I don't see any other way around it..." Shrugging her shoulders, Miho would then release a breath before focusing her chakra towards her lower limbs, lifting her head up as she soon took a jump and began to apply her reserve of strength toward her feet. With them coming in contact with the tree's base, she would balance herself enough so that despite the sudden shift in position, she stabilized with enough grace to not need the support of her hands to correct the moment of a near tumble. "It appears to be working...lets go.." With that said, the teen would wait for her partner to do the same, her body starting to make it's way up. As such, along with the training she received from her father and those in the clan, Miho has developed enhanced reflexes. Second Exam: Team A Sand & Leaf @ 1st Ascension Despite containing an allergen and being a deceivingly easy way up the first level, the vines lacked any form of alternative danger to them. Not touching the plants and proceeding up the tree like it were any other would work. Miho wasn't punished for walking up the tree and neither would Asahi, but the soles of their feet now had trace amounts of that allergen. Precaution was good for safety, but executed poorly for races. The lack of rush in either's steps would cause their travel upwards to be a boring spectacle. Hopefully entertainment wasn't a measure they'd be rated upon, but the first obstruction would be passed. Allowing both shinobi to casually strut to the second platform and the next challenge. In order to get on the second platform they'd have to crawl through a hole in the platform. It's structure made big enough to blind one of the next obstruction till at the top. Once upon the next platform they'd see a very different set of obstacles, there'd appear to be steel bands a short distance up the trunk from this platform. Above them was a very dark coal looking surface with an oily cover to it, that'd stretch up most of the way to the next platform. There'd be some weird pipe setup, which looked hooked to a stove. Though the whole setup and contraption would be hard to see due to the distance it was away from both genin. At the top before the next platform a shinobi stood, he'd upon seeing the genin arrive quickly perform hand signs. "KATON!" Would be heard among other words, before a fireball would whoosh down the tree trunk. It'd ignite the strange set up at the top, revealing some form of fire projector. It'd also ignite the path of the tree the shinobi had to climb next. Turning the majority of the path into what looked like a long stretch of burning coals. The fireball wasn't big enough to cover the whole path that the two had to climb, but it was large enough to destroy the platform if both genin were foolish enough to simply watch the destructive force fall upon the structure they stood. Upon further examination of the path ahead, granted the fireball didn't take the shinobi out. The fire projector would appear to change the flame it put forth. It'd stream out an almost bluish flame stretch five feet high for about five seconds, then it'd burst outwards into a brilliant red and orange going upwards of 15 feet, before take a second to seemingly die down back into the concentrated blue flame. The boy was understandably nervous about his plan to simply walk on top of the vines, more so because of what would happen should one or both of them be incapacitated by it, but as the pair walked vertically up the plants there didn't seem to be any ill effects. Once the need to be extra cautious faded the two would begin to pick up pace until they reached a small tunnel that lay just before the next platform which would require them to crawl through. It was dangerous to leave themselves in such a vulnerable state but it was the only way up and if they moved fast enough then the chances of being caught off guard would be lessened.

Reaching the other side of the tunnel would grant them access to the platform, one down, and while the first obstacle did take a bit of thinking Asahi was positive that everything going forward would be much more difficult. Looking up at the next part of the tree would reveal a contraption that seemed a stark contrast to literally everything around it, country included. Sunlight beamed off the metal bands and the sheen of a slick surface caught the boys eye, it was like a machine had dug itself into this great tree. Weird. "Never seen anything like this before." The genin stated right as the echo of familiar word would ring in the air. Some distance in front of them a fireball would begin to form and... head straight towards them! "W-We gotta move!" He added before jumping off the platform to the right, making sure to clear the fireball but still stay within the yellow boundaries. As the attacked raced past him it would completely destroy the platform the two had just been standing on.

The Suna genin would refocus his attention on the metal contraption which had had its surface set ablaze by the fireball, or rather, set to a simmer like hot coals on a barbecue. Above the heated path would be a jet of flames that looked to alternate between a shorter blue flame and a much longer regular looking one. The choice would become to try and risk leaping over a smaller, more intense heat, or a teller regular fire (which wasn't really anything to laugh at). So there were now at least three obstacles the duo would have to deal with before they could make it to the next platform: the path of burning coals, a jet of fire, and whoever had shot that fireball at them. This was going to be so. much. fun.

Looking over to make sure his teammate had been able to clear the attack as well, Asahi would take a deep breath as he wracked his brain trying to come up with a plan. "I don't think tree walking is going to protect our feet from that fire, and I don't have anything to put it out with either. Any ideas?" He'd inquire while feeling just a tad useless. If it was snow that needed melting then the young Kyokujitsu would have been all set, but being a fire style user --sort of-- himself he couldn't do all that much.

With the climb itself already being daunting, the fact that it seemed as if opposition was waiting on the other side made things even more so. Despite this, there was no other direction to go but up, and they wouldn't be able to do so without taking a few risks. Still, after making to the next stage of their challenge, Asahi mentioned the mechnical device upon it, leading to Miho having to agree. Nothing about it was natural, which so far , seemed to make it stand a bit out of place. Yet, there was very little time to examine it as a ball of fire seemed to surge down upon them, prompting the boy to alert them of a sudden move. While he moved off to the right, Miho took to the left, managing to stay close to the yellow line, but not over it. Keeping her balance at the next attack continued towards them, the idea of possible suggestions was left upon her. "Honestly..I'm just as clueless as you are.."<P> Yet that was when she noticed the metal again, the scattered pieces starting to fall towards the ground and leading to the base below. If they were going to proceed forward, they needed defense. That was when the idea came to her. "Stay close behind me! I have an idea!" In her race forward, she would allow chakra to surge within her hand, prompting her to take hold of one of the shattered pieces from the platform, taking hold of it with both arms while she raced onwards along the surface of the tree. "I need your eyes! Tell me when we're close!" It was the best defense, yet she could feel the heat against her arms, scorching her hands but not enough to keep her from the ascent. Her climb would continue, blocking any further attack with the piece that had been stabilized against the great tree. Second Exam: Team A Sand & Leaf @ 2nd Ascension Both shinobi would successfully avoid the fireball aimed for their platform. This attack didn't shake either shinobi to badly, as both would respectively come together with the task at hand. Miho taking almost charge of the situation, as she'd devise the steel on the tree could be used to her aid. She'd take a large piece with her chakra enhanced strength, then give Asahi the task of watching out for her. Blind ambition would tell Miho to proceed straight through fire and block it, she'd see the difference between tall and short. Deciding that it'd be better to cross through the short flame, but thankfully the sand shinobi was more an expert on heat. Hindering the charge, so the two would charge through the orange flame. The color wasn't some illusion nor some added chemical to change color, it was a natural occurring phenomenon. The hotter the flame the closer to violet it was on the color scale, so the blue flame would of actually been much more damaging to both shinobi. Pressing through the single jet of fire would be actually the hardest difficulty of the challenge. Shoes likely needed to be put out, but both shinobi would pass the fire unscathed. Fire wasn't much of a physical barrier and the shinobi behind it would move to the side for both shinobi to pass. Another entrance cut into the platform, so both shinobi could get a level footing. This time there'd be no forced rush, but instead what looked like another platform? Unlike the platform they stood this wood barrier had no entrance through it and the yellow which dictated the rings edge would go all the way around the outside frame of this wall. Indicating the obstacle was actually a wall, but little would they know behind it was another wall. A total of five walls would line this path up the tree, each equal distance from each other and the platform which both shinobi stood. There were a few obstacles standing before them impeding their progress to the next platform, all of which dealt with fire in some form or fashion. A bed of hot coals, an alternating jet of flames, and who or whatever had shot the fireball at them moments ago. Neither of the duo had access to a way to put out any of the fires and even though the young Kyokujitsu used it naturally he wasn't blessed with resistance in any form; though even if he was it wouldn't do much good for his teammate.

Stumped as he was, Miho seemed to have an idea and had plucked a falling piece of the platform out of the air with what looked to be relative ease, a feat that shouldn't have been possible for someone so... small. Whatever, there'd be time to question that later. She wanted him to be the lookout while charging forward, presumably using the platform piece to protect them from the jet of flames. Well, as much as it could. While their upper body would be safe running through them would definitely hit their feet, unless the duo wanted to time their run so that they could jump over the smaller --but hotter-- blue flames. A decent idea but considering how heavy that metal piece Miho was carrying had to be her ability to jump might have been hindered.

With the plan set the two would take off, crossing the simmering bed of coals, the heat licking against the entirety of Asahi's feet, but with their quickness it'd be an obstacle they'd be able to pass quickly. Next came the alternating jet of flame. "Alright we're going to push through the taller, less hot flame. Speed through on my mark." He'd say while trying to get the timing of the change down. They'd only have a few seconds to both make it through before the blue flames shot up, and since Asahi needed to be a step or so behind so he could see around their makeshift shield he'd have to give the signal when the blue flames were dying out.

"Wait... wait... NOW!" The boy shouted as the duo pushed through the orange and yellow flames. They were hot, instantly reminding him of the climate in Suna and even the jutsu he used, but as quickly as they entered they'd be through. The genin took a moment to check himself just to make sure nothing had been burned and aside from needing to stomp out a few flickering flames on his shoes all seemed to be in order.

A lateral cut into the tree would lead them to the next platform where they could stand normally without the need for the tree walking technique and ahead of them was an absolute unit in the form of a slab of wood. There didn't seem to be any handles, knobs, openings, etc., it was just a big ole piece of wood. "I guess we have to make our own way through." He'd say while digging out a couple kunai and exploding notes, attaching the latter to the former. Asahi wasn't sure how thick the wood was so to be sure he'd use a couple exploding notes to save them time. The genin would toss both kunai to a lower central point at the wooden block, about where a door would be, before detonating the exploding notes. Hopefully an opening would be created and the two would be able to advance.

Second Exam

Despite the relative difference in size between herself and the piece of metal held by her arms, Miho would manage to brace it with the back of her arm and dig her nails into the fabric as if it were no more than paper between her fingers. Still, there was the matter of sight, something that she hoped dearly that Asahi would be capable of providing as she prepared for their acsent to continue. Bracing it close, she'd await his signal, soon pressing forward as she did her best to move upon his instruction. The heat of the flames, while intense even with the physical barrier between them, was proving a bit of a challenge even with the buffer. Still, it was perhaps by grace that the lesser of the surging fires was their intended path. In the end, after finally managing to reach the next platform, the teen would release the now burned surface metal, letting it clamber against the surface while releasing a breath. It was easy to forget that despite her limited usage of said technique, the maze had done much to reduce her reserves. Something that she would indeed need for later. Thankfully, this time the Suna nin appeared to be the one with the suggestion on how to proceed, her eyes widening as she watched him begin to remove explosive notes and kunai from his possessions. Taking a moment to look over the wall, the short haired female would blink. "Seems less intense considering the lengths in which they went to keep us from it...I wonder if it is meant only to appear as.." In mid-note, the boy would already have set the required charges, igniting them with what appeared to be a well-placed explosion while leaving Miho reeling back with her arm held up in defense from possible debris. As such, along with the training she received from her father and those in the clan, Miho has developed enhanced reflexes. This allows her to react much more quickly in combat, better enabling her to avoid dangerous situations and defend herself almost instantaneously than normal. -Jutsu-
