Another day on the cold island, Toru had begun to adjust to the temperatures by now. Sleeping here was actually quite pleasant, as being hot whilst asleep was awful. It was never too hot, which was what made it so nice in his hotel. There was always a sense of comfort in his bed. Furthermore, he had found that with enough proper clothes - that he certainly had - it was honestly not that cold. Still cold, but without a doubt tolerable and with enough movement even pleasant.

As he adjusted, he realized that he was also getting closer to the penultimate reason for why he was here. To bring honor, to do well in the chunin exams no matter what. Leave a lasting, quaking impact upon the world through his show of skill. At least, that was what he hoped to do. Perhaps, he would have a completely different experience once he finally got into the first round of the exams. But for now, he held hope that he would do well. He didn't need glory, just to show that he was capable and strong.

But, in the meantime, he was going to explore Byakuya. Learn everything he could about Yuki no Kuni in general. So, he was at the marketplace, exploring all the wares that the village had looking through weapons, trinkets, and local foods.

"But it's made of wood" a young girl said, to a pink-haired woman on a market stand. She was brandishing a small wooden knife and apparently about to fillet a fish with it, an action that had stunned the child and clearly wasn't something that was going to happen without the use of Chakra.

"Indeed, but just watch what eating your greens can do for you" the woman replied, a playful and theatrical tone of voice as she picked up the fish, threw it in the air, and then swished the wooden knife from tail to head. When the fish hit the stall again, it neatly fell into two pieces to the absolute delight of the young girl watching. With a hearty smile, the pink haired woman would then take out the skeleton and discard it.

The effects, that gave it it's name, allow for the use of the Ghostly Wavering technique in a more efficient manner, extending it's run time.

Zakku tugged at the sleeves of his new sweater.  It was itchy but it kept the cold out.  Quite well as a matter of fact he was impressed with it.  He had slowly adjusted to the constant cold after living in Sunas constant heat but that didn't mean he was enjoying the cold.  The Hot Springs however were fantastic.  He could soak in them for ages.  

He'd gotten everything he was going to need.  He'd even gotten some new reading material.  Things were starting to come together quite well.  The Suna Genin walked out of the clothing store and into the frozen streets.  Thankful the green sweater was doing it's job Zakku slung the bag of his purchases over his shoulder.  He began to walk through the market heading back to the Housing so he could drop his stuff off and have another soak in the Hot Springs before bed.

A sudden commotion caught his attention and Zakku turned to watch a young lady cut a fish cleanly with a wooden knife.  'Whoa."  Escaped his lips as he stared in fascination at the speed and skill.

Toru overheard the conversation at the fish stall nearby, his gaze moving with no small amount of boredom as to see what was going on. There was a purple - or was that pink? - haired woman throwing a fish in the air and slicing the fish in half with an apparently wooden knife. A metal knife would have done the trick, a lot faster too, was this to show off a skill? He couldn't tell, either way, he was not impressed. But from the sounds of it, someone behind him was quite impressed. But, Toru was from Kirigakure no Sato there were plenty of great swordsmen around, a wooden knife cutting and filleting some fish was nothing impressive. Yes, she was fast, and skillful in her movement - that much he could tell - but at the end of the day it was an unnecessary time-wasting flare. A steel sharp knife, firmly against a countertop would have done the same job, if not a better job in the hands of a fish filleting master... Shinobi were far from masters in that regard... Perhaps the woman was a sushi chef? Certainly not a shinobi with the way she drew attention to herself. But the speed and the air time for the fish didn't seem like a sushi thing either. It was just an odd display.

He glanced at the source of the audible 'woah'. A blue-haired boy that he had seen stepping off the train a few days earlier with him and join the group.

"That impressed?"

She had attracted a crowd it seemed, of varying different opinions. One guy, who kind of looked like a male Kaeda, was impressed with the cutting of the fish. But another guy was unfortunately not so impressed. So she would look up and directly at the kid who decried her, her glowing pink eyes lighting up the distance between them.

"Ohh? Are you the grumpy one that insists on spoiling how a magician does all his illusions?" she teased, flipping the knife over and offering it to him, complete with another fish in the other hand.

"You should know you should never decry a person unless you can prove you are able to do the same as they can, if not better. So go ahead. And no Chakra"

Zakku looked at the kid that had asked him if he was that impressed.  Before he could answer the young lady that they were watching called out the boy quite mean spirited but not uncalled for.  Zakku looked between the blade that was offered to the kid and the fish then back to the kid then to the ladies glowing pink eyes.  'Holy shit!'  He was shocked never having seen anything close to that in his village.  Her's held an intensity that was both intimidating and kinda hot.  

"Dude I think you picked the wrong lady to cheese off."  Zakku nudged the fellow genin.  He didn't know the kid but he saw him when they arrived.    Zakku would take a step back normally but he wanted to see how this played out.  Today wasn't going to be as boring as he thought.  It was actually turning out quite eventful.

"Well go ahead and prove her wrong."  Zakku motioned to the knife.  Any chance he got to study what could potentially be his opponent or team mate was an advantage in his book.

Toru was a stall over, but it seemed the woman had hearing to rival a canine or something even more impressive. Either way, he glanced between the fish and the knife, the wooden knife. Then looked over at Zakku... Cheese? He didn't know what that meant, but the desire to stab him in the throat welled up momentarily when he was nudged. They were strangers and he felt he had no right or place to touch him. But, he didn't do anything, he already saw what happened when one got too aggressive on what was considered to be a village of truce.

Now, he was back to the wooden knife. The woman was funny if he was about to do anything as degrading as showing off in front of anyone. To him, it was pitiful, and Toru did nothing to ever draw attention to himself. The fact that she had heard him was by chance, after all, he had not been speaking to her at all, but Zakku. Either way, he moved through the crowd, a few steps forward before pulling out a kunai, taking the fish and stabbing it straight into the nearest wall through about the midsection. It hung there now, unceremoniously swinging. No wooden knife was necessary.

He stared at the woman a few beats, before shrugging, wiping his hand off on his trousers from the wet feeling of raw fresh fish on his palm and fingers before moving back to the previous stall that he had been inspecting.

"Ahh, one of them then. All mouth and no trousers. Your girlfriend is going to be most disappointed" Raimaa commented, shaking her head. It sucked he just straight up didn't play with her. Still, she could handle that because she had fans that did actually seem to care.

"Though, you are a fan, huh?~" Raimaa exclaimed, turning her eyes to the other who had been on her side. Reaching out one of her hand to him, she would extend a greeting to the guy who had been impressed by her show.
"I'm Raimaa Futago, Shinobi of Yukigakure. I'm helping out the stalls around here. A lot more demand with the Exams and all, so they need all the hands they can get. And i'm hardly busy these days"

Zakku watched Toru take the fish and his Kunai and stab it into the wall and leave it hanging by it's midsection.  He let out an irritated huff.  They'd started to draw a crowd and he leaves on such and anticlimactic note. 

Turning to look at Raimaa he accepted the offered hand and introduced himself.  "Zakku Burokun.  Shinobi of Sunagakure."  Releasing The older Shinobis hand Zakku looked at the fish.  Normally Zakku wouldn't associate with Shinobi from other nations but he was a guest in a foreign land so he was more than willing to play nice until he got back home.  

"Can I see the knife?"  Zakku would take the knife and hold it in his hand.  He weighed it giving it a couple of light tosses before chucking it at the fish.  It would sink cleanly into the fishes head but not the wall behind it.  "Kinda Fishy but I like it.  I'll have to bring some home for mom."

Toru wasn't exactly of the age to be interested in women, at all, and with how hyper-focused he was on being a shinobi it was certainly the last thing on his mind. Either way, her commentary didn't make all that much sense, most likely local slang. He didn't pay it much mind almost entirely because he didn't understand it and didn't care to understand it. He was here for the exams, not to show off some random wooden knife skills.

It seemed the other boy was a sucker for this sort of thing, which whilst Toru didn't know his village - and didn't care too much about it - he was either not a swordsman, or was not surrounded by swordsmen on a daily basis... Or both. Either way, he appeared an easy target from the way he approached the woman without any scrutiny. Would he do this in all tasks, even in the exams? It would be a curiosity to see.

Toru had selected several pastries to try from the stall he had been inspecting and moved to the fish stall out of curiosity to see what kind of fish there actually were. Beyond his stabbing the fish into the wall.

Handing the wooden knife over to the kid from Suna, he could inspect it and see that it was truly wooden. No point or cutting edge could be found, and you'd have far more luck bludgeoning fish to paste with it than at all trying to cut with it. And yet, cut she did, cleanly down the middle. Clearly something else was going on behind the scenes.

"Well, you are in luck, we have a nice amount of fish, filleted and diced or given whole, which ever you might desire" Raimaa told him, giving him a grin and gesturing to her wide stock of goods so that he might chose.

Zakku turned to look at the fish.  He'd seen plenty of fish in Suna but Yuki Fish were unfortunately very similar looking.  He let out a huff being slightly upset he wasn't seeing anything earth shattering but he shouldn't have gotten his hopes up that high.  He'd have more to see during the exams.  

"Try selling it to him as some home decor.  That seems to be more to his liking."  Zakku motioned to Toru.  He didn't understand the kid and was wanting to figure him out but there was a pretty lady in front of him and that wasn't ever a bad thing.  At least not in his book.  "Maybe he uses it as a conversation starter when people enter his home."  Zakku shrugged.

Toru looked towards Zakku, his stare blank and without a hint of feeling or emotion. He seemed to have a lot to say, too much to say. He would have done well from keeping his mouth shut. But he stared nonetheless in silence for a moment, before speaking.

"I don't have a home." He retorted blandly, before looking back to the fish. There was a decent selection, Kirigakure normally had more but it was to be expected, Kirigakure was quite literally on the water and quite temperate waters too, Yuki no Kuni was an island - yes - but a cold island, so there were different kinds of fish but in smaller quantities, some were obviously imported.

He wanted something he had not had before though, and his gaze continued to wander over the selection.

"I need a whole fish, but I haven't decided on the kind yet." He responded briefly to the woman, treating this as a transaction than anything else.

"I would not waste my time trying to interact with him. He seems a secret ninja experiment to create a living being consisting only of edge and nothing else. Doesn't make for an engaging conversation" Raimaa told her friend, giving a dismissive shrug.

"So, you come here for knife tricks or fish sticks? I can give you both honestly. Nothing in the rules say you can't pick up a few interesting tricks from people around before the exam begins"
