Don’t just weather the storm.
Dance in it.

The freezing dry air carried flurries of snow as the wind blew harshly throughout the area. Kazui was bundled up as best as she could while still having her clan’s crest on display. Before things were to get underway, the contestants were allotted free time to do whatever they pleased, but unlike most of the genin who went shopping or out to eat, Kazui instead traveled the area alone, making her way up a hill to overlook the city and its snowy terrain in its entirety.

While she did have friends that traveled to this country with her, it was always peaceful to spend some time alone, or at least away from the masses. The girl often found herself being drained of her energy whenever she was in a large group or surrounded by a lot of people she didn’t really know. This was no different. From the rocky boat ride to Yuki no Kuni to the wretched train ride to Byakuya, Kazui hasn’t been allowed any free time to spend by herself away from all the noise and the drama that came from forcing strangers and enemies into close quarters. It was exhausting to say the least, nevertheless it was a part of becoming a chunin so the girl didn’t complain.

A sigh escaped her breath as she sat upon the fluffy snow, pulling her legs closer to her chest and wrapping her arms around her legs as well, trying her best to stay warm. Even in this cold weather, Kazui was able to relax easier than she could back at the dormitory. Two days into the festivities and she had already managed to make an enemy or two. That didn’t bother her so much, in fact she didn’t care much about that. It did however show her how senseless foreign shinobi could be. ‘If Issei would’ve just gotten up on time then that all could have been avoided.’ She thought to herself. As if she weren’t already in a bad mood that day, those two kids had to go and spoil the way she viewed mist shinobi in general. That was in the past however. Lowering her shoulders, closing her eyes, and burrowing her face into the high collar of her clan’s robe, the girl would try to shake the negative thoughts from her head and enjoy the wintery wonderland that Yuki no Kuni offered.

Nagisa definitely wasn't dressed properly for someone wandering around in subzero weather. A simple light, hooded jacket, and flexible black pants served him perfectly. The immunity to cold was a perk of his heritage, one of the few he was actually grateful for, and in this environment, it served him perfectly. The young Kiri shinobi moved lightly through the tourist crowds of Byakuya, surveying what the place had to offer, but they weren't his destination.[break][break]

Much to the dismay of his passenger.[break][break]

The fluffy, calico cat let out a loud meow of dismay as his owner passed yet another food stand without stopping. Nagisa simply rolled his eyes at the cat's antics and continued to move up the levels of the city. The genin was hoping to find a spot to train his techniques, away from the eyes of the others, and squeeze in a bit more practice before the actual competition started.[break][break]

He supposed he could have asked Asuka - or heavens forbid, Toru - to help him with training, national solidarity and all, but there was always the chance that they could be thrown against each other during the challenges and he didn't want them to know all of his tricks. Plus, tempers were already starting to run high, if the news he had heard about an incident at the barracks had been accurate. So training alone would probably be the best bet.[break][break]

He crested the hills near the top of the village, looking out over the picturesque town. Bouncing on the balls of his feet which were buried in the freshly fallen snow. His cat meowed at the motion, digging his claws into Nagisa's shoulder so he didn't tumble to the ground. He moved to readjust the cat when the motion made him turn enough to see that he wasn't completely alone upon the top of the hills. A young girl was sitting over in the snow also looking at the village. The difference was, she was bundled up to the nines. Probably not a local. And she definitely was not from his own village.[break][break]

The cat meowed again and this time purposefully jumped from Nagisa's shoulder to the snow below, letting out a grumble of distaste at the cold fluff. Ignoring Nagisa telling him to come back, the cat began jumping through the snow like a rabbit, making his way over to where the girl was. Perhaps she would be more willing to provide treats than his owner had been.

As her dark eyes remained resting, the sounds around her became more prominent as the girl focused on her surroundings. The joy, laughter, and chatter from the town could be heard faintly, but what really caught Kazui’s attention was the sound of footsteps approaching, despite the snow being so fluffy, it was actually pretty loud when people walked over it. She didn’t pay it any mind however, mostly because she figured it was either Hiruko or Kazuto coming to drag her back to the masses to interact with people, knowing that she would much rather enjoy her time alone with only herself and her thoughts. It wasn’t too far fetched, they did want her to be more social but it didn’t seem like anything she could control on her own, it was just who she was.

The footsteps grew louder as they continued, expecting to hear the oh so familiar voice of Kazuto. A sigh escaped her lips as she finally accepted that it was time to go back. However, as the girl would turn to speak, all that she saw was a cat sniffing around her before meowing at the pouch she carried on the small of her back. "Hey little dude.” She mumbled softly as she remembered she had a small lunch packed for her. Her eyes quickly shifted up to the boy who stood not too far, it was more than likely his cat. "Hi.” She murmured blandly, her eyes meeting with his for only a split second before averting away as she went to grab the container from her pouch. "Is it alright if I feed him?” Kazui asked. She didn’t want to cause anymore harm, so the girl would make sure to get permission before feeding the little guy.

"I have some blueberries that I can give him.” The girl added on, gently shaking the container, causing the fruit to roll around and thud with the plastic.
