Don’t just weather the storm.
Dance in it.

Recovery and relaxation was recommended to all of the participants of the first two exams after they had concluded the second round, and that’s what many of them did. It had been a couple of days since Kazui herself walked free from the building that they were being held in, lucky enough to only be cold and a bit hungry. No injuries were sustained except for the icy bath she took directly as the second round ended. Still the girl found herself in bed, tossing and turning. It was late at night, and many people were sleeping or at least trying to.

The girl herself was restless, switching from each shoulder as she laid there, eventually settling on laying on her back as her gaze looked up towards the ceiling of her room. A sigh escaping her breath. Why couldn’t she sleep? Maybe it was because she was being a bit too leisurely with the time off alloted to her. She hadn’t really left her room ever since the red team separated after their ‘victory meal’ so to say. Well she did leave to get food every now and then, but that was about it. No contact or conversation with other people, no detours, she only left for food and returned to her dorm directly afterwards.

Turning her head and facing the window to the side of her, Kazui would see the moon as it beamed a source of light into her room. The stars were dancing, and it was enough to intrigue the young Uchiha. Throwing the covers off of herself, exposing her bright sakura printed pajama set, she would quickly prance over towards the window as she watched the flurries of snow fall from the skies above and to the ground below. It was a beautiful sight to behold, and honestly it was one of the best things Kazui had saw ever since she arrived in Byakuya.

Longer she looked out the window however, the more she began to notice. There were a few chunin walking around. For what? She was unsure. They could have just been making their way to a nearby tavern or they could have been walking around because all of the genin had a curfew. Kazui didn’t know for sure, but she didn’t care. The urge to get up and do something was becoming more and more prominent as she sat there. "Hmm.” The girl hummed as she looked at the snow. It probably wasn’t the smartest thing to do, being out so late, but she didn’t care. The girl didn’t feel like being bottled up in her room for much longer.

Kazui would quickly go to change out of her pajamas and into clothes that she normally wore. A small black shirt covered her body, the Uchiha clan symbol wove perfectly on the back of the dark threads. This was one of her favorite shirts? Why? She didn’t know, especially since they all looked the same except the minute differences in each one like color and things of the like. Her shorts were black as well, a good fit for her as they came a little less than halfway down her thigh. Her arms and legs weren’t bandaged yet, but she did have the bandages with her along with the rest of her equipment. Once she was ready, Kazui would grab a white hooded cloak from off of the coat hanger before making her way out of the room, down the hall, and into the front of the building.

Everything seemed quiet to a degree, perhaps there was a curfew that needed to be upheld. Pulling the hood over her head, the girl would quickly begin walking as she heard voices off in the distance. Heading the opposite direction of the voices, Kazui would keep a lookout for more people as she continued to push through the snow.

The sound of the snow beneath each step that her feet took was a nuisance to the girl. It was one of the few things that she actually hated about the snow, that’s and the insanely low temperatures that came with it. Nevertheless, she continued onward, maneuvering around, avoiding the voices of people she heard out in the street with her. The moon still provided a bright light for her to know where she was going to a degree. Not long after, she found herself getting cold, but that was a part of her training, never letting the weather or climate dictate a shinobi’s performance was important, especially for a higher ranking ninja.

Sighing underneath her breath, Kazui would use her hands to rub her arms as she continued forward, the girl eventually made it to one of the few training yards that they had set up around Byakuya. Ironically enough, everything was open, the training yard and the facilities as well. Maybe there wasn’t a curfew. Still, Kazui would enter the training yard under the guise of the night’s sky and the moon light. She had no plan after that, no idea on what she wanted to train, she was just … there.

Breathing a misty cloud from her mouth, Kazui would look around briefly before taking off the white hooded robe and placing it on the branch of one of the trees that were near her. The sharp cold winds would hit the girl’s soft skin with intensity as she stood there. Gritting her teeth, she would try to ignore the pain and continue on with whatever she was going to do. Slowly trudging through the snow, Kazui would make her way towards a group of wooden dummies that were set up in a triangular formation.

"How the hell does anyone train out here?” She would ask herself as she tried to control her breathing. Slow deep breaths would help her take her mind off of the harsh climate and place it on the targets instead. Rummaging through her pouch, the girl would arm herself with four shuriken in one hand and four kunai in the other. With her sights set on her targets, Kazui would take in one final deep breath before slinging the ninja tools at the intended targets. The blades would cut through the cold chilly air before a thumping sound could be heard by all 8 blades, signifying that they had all hit the target.

A moment passed as Kazui took in a deep breath, huffing and puffing, as she slowly began to make her way over towards the wooden dummies, hugging herself to keep warm as she did so. She wanted to train her body to get used to the harsh freezing climates, just in case she had to fight in it anytime during the next round of the exams. That would at least give her some sort of advantage, at least that’s what she thought. As she made her way over towards the treated timber dummies, she would pluck them out one by one, her fingers shivering as she did so.

The girl’s aim was nigh perfect, as most Uchiha were very proficient when it came to utilizing their ninja tools and things as such, however there was something that she understood that many seemed to overlook or blatantly chose to ignore and that was creativity. Having intuition and ingenuity while in combat was deadly, and Kazuto reminded her time after time whenever she was becoming too predictable.

"Think outside the box.” She would mumble to herself softly as she began to walk the distance back to where she had first thrown the ninja tools.

The girl began to quickly brainstorm different strategies, different ways that she could incorporate the ninja tools in a different way, something that was too good, so good that it would leave even her opponents dumbfounded. Normally the girl came up with plans and strategies with ease but in this damn cold, it seemed as if every other moment her mind would remind her how cold it was. Lightly shivering as she clutched the cold hard steel of the kunai, her index finger would tap on the blunt end of one of the blades as she continued to brainstorm.

"Wire!” She was reminded that wire was in her pouch, and it was a personal favorite of hers mostly due to the fact that the thin threads were tough to see and that they could dictate just how an opponent moved around the battle field. A true nuisance to someone who didn’t really have the patience to slow down and think things through completely. Quickly the raven haired girl would shift through all of her equipment and remove the wire, inspecting it to make sure everything was right, making sure that there weren’t any defects with her equipment especially since she had to relinquish her belongings to strangers for a little over four days.

As she twisted and turned the metal threads, she was reminded of all the times she had used her sewing material to substitute for ninja wire, a smile curling on her lips for a brief moment. Times were .. kind of better then, but only because her grandmother was still alive back then. Nevertheless, she would shake the memories from her mind and would center her focus on the kunai and the wire that she held in the grasp of her cold, shaky hands. Sighing heavily, the girl would continue to push through the elements as best as she could.

"I’ll just …” The girl would start softly as she tied the ninja wire around the blunt ends of her ninja tools. It was simple enough but that alone wasn’t what she was looking for. She wanted something bigger, more grand, and more useful. That’s when it clicked, a while back when she was training with Issei, the boy managed to catch Kazui off guard with a sequence of ninja wire that rearranged. How did he do that? Well now was the best time to try rather than later, at least that’s what she thought. "Hmm.” The young teen would think to herself.

"Let’s see here.” She would murmur softly before continuing on, "How did he manage to pull that off?” Asking herself was useless, she didn’t understand how or what was needed to make something like that work, but she figured she would have to learn it herself if she were going to achieve her goal of finding a new way to utilize her equipment. Shrugging her shoulders slightly, Kazui would give up on trying to think and would instead just jump right into things. Not wasting a second more, she would simply just launch the kunai past the wooden dummy and into a tree that sat not too far away.

"Simple enough..I think.” It was definitely what she thought, as she had no idea if she were doing it right or wrong, regardless she would continue on with what she was doing. A thread ran from her to the tree opposite of her, that was easy to remember. Activating her sharingan, the girl would begin to launch kunai and shuriken left and right, some deflecting off of one another and drastically changing directions. However, her red eyes would follow each and every one, a crimson trail following her line of vision as she quickly shifted from one kunai to the other.

The sound of cold metal meeting with the bark of trees could be heard as well as the sound of metal meeting metal as the Uchiha continued to toss her shinobi tools around. She was moving fast, but her precision didn’t drop in quality at all. However, once all of the kunai and things as such landed, the girl would simply copy what she remembered Issei doing that one time and that was just..cutting one of the wires. So she would do just that. As she lifted one of the spare kunai that remained, she would sever the thread and quickly anticipate something to happen..but of course nothing did. The wire would just drop down to the snowy earth which would then cause Kazui to take a moment to reflect on what had happened, what she could have done wrong, and what she could have done better.

Anger quickly began to fill the girl’s mind as she quickly rose from her seated position and grabbed a handful of wire before yanking them their targets in one swift pull. Huffing and puffing, the girl would look down at her hand, the many wires that she saw gave her another idea.

The girl would remain standing there for a brief moment as she thought to herself. "Instead of trying to use the wires as a trap, maybe I can just use the wires to shift my ninja tools mid flight..” It was simply and seemed fairly simple for her to get with her first try, so she thought. Throwing the kunai and shuriken off the mark, she would yank the threads back with much force and little finesse. And in return, the kunai would simply be pulled directly back, causing them to drop to the ground.

A grunt of frustration would escape Kazui’s breath as she began to feel herself before more and more unsettled the more she messed up. However, she managed to calm herself down. Thinking of the words her master told her numerous times, there was no need to get angry at oneself. Instead, what needed to be done was reestablishing focus and to calm down. So that’s what she did.

Taking a moment to gather her thoughts and to breath in and out, the girl would give it another shot. Reeling in the ninja tools, the girl would arm herself with them yet again. This time however, she would focus on pulling the wires with her wrist rather than with the strength of her arm. As the kunai and shuriken cut through the crisp cool wind, Kazui would lightly tug at the wires causing the blades to change directions drastically, lodging into the back of the wooden dummy.

A sigh of relief escaped the girl’s lips before a smile quickly followed. It wasn’t what she exactly wanted but it definitely met the criteria well enough for her to accept without being upset at the way things played out. Instead of trying to use the wire in an offensive manner, she used them to supplement the ninja tools that could actually cause damage. That was a win in her book, and no one could tell her anything different. Of course though she would still need to ask Issei how he performed the other jutsu, just because she liked learning. Nevertheless, her time in the training yard seemed to be coming to an end as she heard voices approaching.

Quickly gathering all of her equipment and belongings, she would place the robe over herself and continue to make her way out of the training grounds. A few lights could be seen turning the corner from the distance, so Kazui would do the same, opting to change the path that she was taking to ensure just in case if there was a curfew she wouldn’t be caught out so late. She was not sure if there was one or not, and to be honest, she did not want to find out if she were in the right or if she were in the wrong.

The girl could’ve just been paranoid, or maybe she just wanted to add a bit of stress to the situation. Nonetheless she made her way back to the dormitory without being spotted. Her nose was running from the cool weather, and she was shivering profusely as she sat in her (sort of) warm room. Other than that, Kazui was fine and would decide that she had enough of the snow for the night. Slowly making her way over towards the window, still shivering with each step she took, the girl would simply reach up and close the curtains, blocking her view of the never ending winter wonderland that was displayed behind the glass.

A sigh escaping her lips as she rested her eyes for a moment. She was tired of looking at the white flurries, deciding that she had plenty of time to cherish the climate while the next round began to get set up. They had a month before things started back up again, which was an ample amount of time to live the winter lifestyle, freezing her hiney off trying to travel from one place to another. Like the blistering heat and oh so annoying sandy terrain that Suna has to offer, the snow just couldn’t be avoided, so she would just have to deal with it.

Yawning ever so slightly, Kazui would reopen her eyes and slowly make her way towards the desk that was set up just at the foot of her bed, just a few feet away from the front door. From there, she would pull the wooden chair out and grab a seat. There wasn’t much to do now but go to bed, maybe. But the girl wasn’t tired, far from it actually. Which was arranged because while she was fighting her way through those biomes, she told herself that she would never take sleeping for granted ever again, and yet here she was neglecting the comfy bed that Yukigakure had offered her during the stay in Byakuya. Well maybe it was for a good reason that she didn’t want to go to bed.

Reaching towards the back of the desk, Kazui would pull forward a small candle that was hiding behind a collection of novels from Byakuya’s bookstore. Gently snapping her fingers while using her katon chakra would be all that was needed to light fire to the stem of the candle, causing the wax to melt and releasing both a natural light and a wonderful fragrance within the confines of her room.

Once the candle was lit and burning bright, Kazui would set it off to the side of the desk. Far enough for it to be out of the way, but also far enough away from the edge just in case it were to tip over and fall someway somehow. Nevertheless, as the flames continued to flicker in the background, Kazui would reach past the group of novels that were neatly organized on the workspace. The novels were all best sellers, very boring books to most, some even considered them reads that you would normally find a wealthy old businessman delving in. Still, the teen decided to not read them, instead she would grab ahold of this rather colorful book, a children’s book titled - The Girl Who Could.

It was a simple read, something that was uncommon for Kazui. There was a reason she chose this book in particular, it was something that her grandmother used to read to her before things took a turn for the worst. It was about a young girl, much like Kazui, who decided she would chase her dreams regardless of what was thrown her way. The book was very repetitive, yet Kazui found it somewhat entertaining. However, before she could even finish the book, she would find herself growing tired and would crawl into her bed. She was then at peace, bidding the world a goodnight as she drifted away into slumber.
