Don’t just weather the storm.
Dance in it.

A gust of cold freezing wind passed over the city of Byakuya, sending chills down everyone’s spine while rustling the little wild life that managed to grow. If the temperature alone wasn’t enough to cause people to shiver, then certainly the wind would. Despite the fact, many people were outside most because they had to expose themselves to the elements if they wished to actually be productive. Whether that was going to get food, shopping, or just simply sightseeing, no matter what the plan was, it was smart to do it in layers of clothing.

Many of the people who resided in the city watched the foreigners with a bit of confusion. They understood it was cold, but to them some people were over doing it. Of course due to them being born in this wintery wasteland, they’ve probably grown accustomed to the cold much like those who lived in wind country grew accustomed to the heat. It was a perk of growing up in such a shitty climate, you get used to it. Unlike those who grew up and lived in Hi no Kuni, a country that pretty much experienced all climates, so it was impossible to get used to just one.

Kazui was no different. Slowly trudging through the thick layer of snow, her shoes sinking down into the white fluff with every step that she took. Outside of the beautiful scenery that the country offered, Kazui hated almost everything about it. The cold temperature, the annoying snow, and the lack of nature. Most of the land seemed bare and bland compared to the scenery she saw back at home. Trees were plentiful, birds chirped, and deer peaches through the vast forest that covered most of the land. It’s what she was used to and what she liked. Though Kazuto would tell the girl that this experience would be good for her as a shinobi, and she would more than likely agree, but it didn’t change the fact that she wasn’t fond of it. Speaking of the jonin however…

"Where is Kazuto?”

The girl murmured quietly beneath her breath as she dug her face deeper into her scarf that was wrapped loosely around her neck, trying her best to keep warm as she was pushing through the snow step by step. Looking side to side in an attempt to look for her mentor. There were only other shinobi standing around, those from Iwa, Taki, Kiri, they were all gathered around the common area with shinobi from Konoha and Suna mixed in among them.

Her eyes looked on, watching closely as she tried to make out who was who as she walked by. None of them appeared to be the person she was looking for, so the girl would simply give up and go on with her business. He was probably busy or somewhere hanging out with Miho. The girl’s search for him wasn’t that important, she wasn’t in danger nor did she need his guidance at the moment, she simply wanted to catch up with him and see how things were going.

It had been around two weeks since the second round of the exams had finally concluded for everyone, most of the contestants were shaken up, beaten down, and exhausted from the first two rounds being held back to back with no rest in between. Luckily for Kazui, her team had finished first, so that allowed them a little bit more time to relax and do whatever they needed to do. Kazui herself took that time to relax, staying out of the way and in her room for the majority of the two weeks simply just reading her books and what not. She managed to stay out of the cold as much as she could, only leaving her room to get food and anything else she may have needed.

That allowed the teen to recuperate quickly and boosted her energy as well.

With everything pretty much returning back to normal, Kazui felt much more energized and decided that she would take the time to train, this time the girl decided that she wanted to use the indoor facility, not wanting to deal with the snow or the temperature this time around. The indoor facility was a bit more cozy, and with many more options for what to train that the outdoors allowed, despite the fact that she could probably make it work regardless. Nonetheless, the girl made her way towards the building, just beside the medical facility where people could go if they injured themselves while training. It was all convenient, and made things a lot easier for the genin.

Once the girl arrived at the facility, she would simply pull open the door and enter the building. Shelter from the elements would cause the girl to warm up just a bit, her body adjusting to the temperature and making Kazui a bit more cozier. She wouldn’t waste much time however, the girl would quickly make her way down the corridor, turning the corner, and quickly make her way into the main part of the facility where most of the training took place.

Dark hues quickly scanned the room, taking in information as they shifted from side to side. There were a good bit of things for her to use and train with. Wooden dummies and targets were set up on one side of the room, while the other side consisted of an obstacle course of some kind, it could help a shinobi work on his maneuverability as well as his reaction time if utilized correctly. Kazui’s eyes continued to look through the area, and she noticed that some of the dummies had sword-like limbs that were made into them, so that one could practice their kenjutsu. Others had limbs, which were more than likely utilized to help improve a person’s prowess of using the wing chun, though it could be used to train almost any style of fighting.

Nevertheless, the girl tried to make up her mind in what she exactly wanted to work on. She was always looking to advance her taijutsu, so maybe perhaps she would shift her focus more towards that rather than the blade or ninjutsu. The fight that the girl had with Hanabi still weighed on her mind, so training taijutsu seemed a little more important at the time being.

The thought of the older girl grabbing Kazui’s cheek as if she were a baby of hers made the Uchiha want to be better than what she was. She understood that Hanabi was her elder and more so like a big sister of some sorts even though they rarely hung out with one another outside of scheduled team meetings and missions, still Kazui could help but feel as if Hanabi was teasing her. So next time, she promised that she would never let that happen again.

Taking off her jacket, the girl would throw the black and red cloths to the side as she stepped closer into the room, making her way towards the wooden dummies that were best used for taijutsu. Looking over the amount that they had, Kazui quickly came up with an idea. She would take her training up a notch by using more than one dummy. By using two, the girl could get a feel and experience of fighting against two people at once. With one dummy stationed in front of her, the other would be placed behind her, forcing her to watch her back and keep track of all of the people she is fighting.

Standing in between the two dummies, Kazui would take in a deep breath before exhaling, trying to calm her nerves and to make sure that she was focused and ready to go. Since these objects weren’t particularly towards her nor would they be moving at ridiculous speeds, the girl decided that her sharingan did not need to be utilized. There were three sections to each dummie, the top representing the head/attacks aimed high, the middle representing the stomach as well as attacks aimed a bit lower, and the bottom representing the legs and kicks aimed low. All of these sections could rotate, so there was a chance that if she messed up or forgot that she was fighting against two, then she would get thumped by a wooden arm.

However, she didn’t plan on forgetting nor did she plan on getting hit. If she kept herself focused and prepared, then she would get through this training with relative ease. Nevertheless, the young girl was ready to get things started. With this, hopefully she could see some gain within her taijutsu prowess and overall skill as a shinobi as well. And maybe next time she would be the one treating Hanabi like a child instead of it being the other way around.

All jokes aside, the past is in the past. She didn’t want to get better just to go back and beat up Hanabi, it wasn’t like that at all, though it would feel good if she could do so. The thing is that it is important to be able to defend oneself with their body in case all else fails and they’re left hopeless. It is a helpful art to learn and practice, which is why Kazui wanted to focus on it more frequently as of lately.

So, as the girl focused on the target in front of her, she would keep in mind that there was an additional target behind her as well. Her eyes locked onto the limbs of the target before she would swiftly strike them with the palm of her hand, causing them to rotate with a bit of speed behind them. With this particular dummy, it was made more so to block the opponents strikes instead of attempting to dodge them altogether. Blocking strikes often allowed for follow ups that turned good defense into instant offense. The target wouldn’t see it coming, and it could turn a fight in one's favor.

As the limb of the first dummy spun and made its rotation, it would home in towards the girl’s chest, the middle section would finish it’s rotation. Quickly the girl would bring herself into a stance, using her hands/forearms to block both the higher attack as well as the attack aimed towards her midsection. Without missing a beat, Kazui would quickly and fiercely retaliate by striking the wooden limbs with a flat palm strike, causing the to spin into rotation yet again.

Everything seemed to be going well for the time being, since she was only using one, it allowed her focus to be uninterrupted, which meant she would be able to give it her all to fight and defend against this wooden dummy. As the second rotations begin to quickly come to an end, Kazui would bring her arms up in the same fashion as before, using her forearms to block the strikes that were thrown at her.

The girl would take the time to quickly transition into the offense of the fighting style, attack the body while shifting around the opponent. Then the girl would strike the limbs again, this time adding the lower portion into the mix as well.

After she quickly strikes the limb of the target, Kazui would shift her attention to the one behind her. Deciding to make it more scenario based as if the second dummy had just arrived to help the first one instead of her jumping into dealing with both at the same exact time. As her focus shifted, she would focus on offense firstly for the second dummy. Quickly jabbing the dummy in the midsection and in the neck area of what would be a normal human. Shifting around the dummy fluently, striking with open palms, the side of her hand, and the tips of her fingers much to the likes of those of the Hyuga clan.

Once she quickly finished her strikes the girl would quickly rotate with speed, facing the other dummy just in time to catch the strikes as they finished their rotation. Catching the limbs of the dummy with her own arms, and blocking the lower strike by raising her leg, the girl would quickly transition back into offense, striking the dummy quickly in rapid succession before turning her attention back to the dummy that was stationed behind her. It was important for her not to get too carried away on the offensive side of things, or else she ran the risk of running out of time and getting strikes by the enemy behind her.

As she quickly whipped herself around, the girl would turn her attention to the dummy behind her. Having yet to actually spin the limbs of the wooden dummy yet, Kazui would quickly string together three hits, one to the upper body and two quick jabs to the midsection. After the final strike, the teen would use her hands to spin the sections to provide more danger. As they spun, Kazui would quickly turn to the other dummy, striking it twice before turning her attention back to the one that was spinning.

As she turned, the girl would use the same technique that she had used before, using her forearm to protect her midsection and vulnerable areas such as the neck and face. Stopping the momentum of the limbs, the girl would transition into offense yet again, but this time she would jump back and forth between the two objects in front of her and behind her, striking the alternatively with quick and precise strikes. The girl was focusing more so on her speed and precision rather than brute force, which was what the Wing Chun martial art style embodied. One had to flow with the battle, and not be forced into the opponent’s pace.

Once the girl finished her quick strikes, she would take a moment to breath. Resting her hands gently on her hips, she would step out from in between the two dummies and look around for a moment.

She felt as if she did good, but she also felt it wasn’t much of a challenge, that it wasn’t like actually fighting two people. There wasn’t really any way for the girl to actually achieve such realistic training without asking people to join her in her endeavors. Being closed off sucked sometimes for this particular reason, when you needed someone to assist you but you knew that you probably would never ask. The girl sighed gently beneath her breath as she began to drag the dummies back into their respective places, keeping the training area nice and tidy for those who might want to use it sometime in the future.

Nevertheless, Kazui decided she would end her training here and pick up sometime later in the day. Her stomach rumbling softly beneath her shirt, and in the moment the girl remembered that she hadn’t eaten anything yet. So it seemed best to go grab lunch before doing anything else. Heading towards the front, Kazui would grab her jacket and scarf and put them on, the cozy warmth returning to her as she made her way out through the lobby and back into the cold ice land of Yuki no Kuni.
