Although Konoha might seem bright and cheery on the outside, if you knew where to look you could easily spot the hints of corruption that crept through the village. One such source of corruption was located inside of a shady pub, situated a little away from the main streets of Konoha. Mostly those of the sinister sorts stayed here, seeing as how the bartender tended to turn a blind eye to any of the dealings that occurred. While it might not be as clean and orderly as some of the other pubs, the Rusty Kunai was known for its discretion. While the pub itself is mostly assumed to be a front for more devious dealings, there has not been definitive evidence brought up, leaving the claims as just rumors. Unfortunately a mole sent by the Torture and Interrogation Force has disappeared while investigating. Whether they are alive or dead is a mystery. A mystery that needs to be solved. 

The Rusty Kunai holds two entrances. One is located in the front, which the majority of its patrons uses while the other is located in the back and watched constantly by two guards. It is currently a few hours after noon and the pub is slowly filling up with people after their long day at work.

If one chose to walk in the pub, they would be greeted with the sight of several wooden tables with a various number of chairs beneath them. Currently half of the tables are filled with men and women alike trying to drown their sorrows through alcohol. An older bartender waits in front of his desk for any orders with another door leading deeper into the pub behind him.

There were two ways to approach the Rusty Kunai, either from the main entrance or from the back. Both of the choices were viable and could lead to different outcomes. The question was which one would be more beneficial?

⚠ Random Scenario ! WPBau62j scenario. Either due to misinformation or just plain bad luck, one of their highest ranking ninja posted to guard the back entrance of the pub has been sent on a mission that he didn't need to go on! While they still have some ninja around to guard, they aren't as strong as they would normally be. As for the inside of the pub, tensions are rising and a bar fight is on the prowl. One wrong word could lead to chaos. But chaos breeds opportunity.

It has been a while since they have the opportunity to go on a mission like this. It is almost refreshing, in a way. Infiltration and interrogation are their specialties and it wouldn't do to stop exercising those muscles just because they have a very busy desk job now. They don't dwell on the actual enjoyment part for long, though. An old ally has gone missing and could be in a dire situation. They would really prefer to work out where he is. Today, if possible, though infiltration missions aren't always so kind as that.

They spend a while scoping out the pub before they actually enter. Appearances can be deceiving, but it really does look like the sort of place with crime going on behind the scenes. They ask themself the classic question: Front entrance or back? The two guards out back honestly don't look particularly intimidating. They feel like they could handle them both swiftly and quietly and make their way inside. A few other possibilities fill their head. Take a seat in town and pretend to sleep while projecting into one of the guards. But heading in that way may raise some questions if they're not meant to go inside.

And they don't really feel like being robbed.

Front it is.

Tomomi enters the establishment and takes a look around. It seems oddly tense in here. A few of the patrons appear to be getting heated, or at least in a foul mood. Pretty easy to exploit. They approach the counter to get a drink, if only to blend in and observe the scenery for a moment. Figure out who the rowdiest of the group are.

If anyone is gambling, that may be the best place to start. People are so strained when money is on the line. If they can fabricate a sense of cheating, start an argument, win a round against someone belligerent... They look around to see if anyone's perhaps playing a game of Chō-Han or the like. Dice games are pretty easy to take advantage of.

The bartender hands Tomomi the requested drink before going back to cleaning out the nearby glasses. He gives them a few words of pleasantries before eyeing some of the nearby tables warily. The first table he eyes currently has its occupants gambling in some sort of game involving dice. And judging from the pile of money in front of a burly robust woman, one of them seems to be winning unproportionately. Due to luck or sleight of hand is a mystery. Either way, some of the players are getting tired of losing. And since they lost so much, the temptation of taking it back by force seems very enticing.

The second table he eyed is currently in the middle of an argument between three men. One is watching the other two argue about who slept with who. Supposedly one of the men slept with a girl the other man was eyeing, leading to their current friction. Normally they would never come to blows, but the alcohol in their system is telling them otherwise.

While some occupants glared at Tomomi suspiciously, most quickly ignored them. In the Rusty Kunai you quickly learned to mind your own business or face the consequences of being too nosy. Both tables nearby had an empty seat for another occupant to fill if they so desired. And if one looked around with a keen eye, they would soon be able to notice that none of the occupants here seemed to be particularly strong. At least not strong enough to capture a shinobi.

A few options are easy to entertain. If they got more information about the girl the two men were arguing over, they could turn into her and spark a competitive argument rather easily. That might take a little too much suspicious lingering, though. They'll opt for something more reliable.

Tomomi observes the table playing the dice game. A lot of money on one side. For a simple game of luck, it's possible, but it seems far more likely to them that this woman is using some trick. They're good at exposing tricks. So they approach the table and greet. Their goal here is to seem innocent and maybe a bit stupid, naïve. They want to seem like someone easy to swindle so the group will be tempted to let them in. But they also can't seem too good for the environment or they'll come off as suspicious.

"Hey," they greet, abruptly, sipping their drink. "What are you guys playing? I want in a round." As they say it, they take out a bit of money and place it on the table, under their hand. Hopefully the combination of things will at once make them seem ignorant (not recognizing the game) and cocky. They utilize the moment of distraction to create a chakra thread. Their delving string sneaks forward, under the cup. Tomomi tries to get a feel for the dice. Is there anything externally noteworthy about them?

DESCRIPTION:
A simple, but very useful technique; by extending puppetry strings and concentrating on the sensation felt in their fingertips a user can probe to try and manipulate or detect what they can't see. Shinobi commonly use this technique to unlock doors, sliding a string under the door to unlock it from the other side. However, this technique can also be used to try and detect opponents in pitch black or other vision-obscuring scenarios like the Hidden Mist Technique.

Half of the players nod their head towards Tomomi while the other half resumes their glaring at the winning woman. One of the younger men turns towards Tomomi after their greeting to respond.

"We were playing an honest game of dice but from the way things have been looking, I’m not so sure anymore. And be my guest. Don’t be surprised when you lose all your money to Ichika though.”

The younger man kicks one of the chairs towards Tomomi, allowing them to sit at the table. Ichika, the woman with the money piled in front of her, only raises an eyebrow in response. It seems she doesn’t particularly care about one more playing seeing as how she doesn’t have much to lose. And from her condescending smirk, it seems that she has no plans of losing at all.

A few people are distracted by the sound of money hitting the table, but most are otherwise preoccupied with what they were doing before. Do they call it here or try for one more game? They had already lost so much, but if they didn’t make a little bit of it back then they would surely suffer for it.

Unbeknownst to them, a single strand of chakra sneaks its way under the cup and on the dice. Perhaps if one of them had a particularly keen eye, they might have noticed. Unfortunately for them, not only were they intoxicated, but they were dealing with a jounin. The chakra string would not be noticed.

Once Tomomi’s string touched the dice, they would immediately notice something strange. On both die, one part of it had a small bump, nearly impossible to notice unless inspected closely. While it might not seem like anything at first, the small bump made it so the dice would always land on a certain side.

Ichika currently has her hands over the cup that holds the dice near the edge of the table. The question is not that she’s rigging the game, it’s how? If these dice were weighted, then how come no one else was winning? And how would Tomomi confront her? No one currently playing was a ninja, as the lot were highly suspicious of them. They would need to tread carefully with their next decision.

"I like to think I'm pretty good," Tomomi jokes to the man as they settle in to join. They can't confront immediately. They have to join in on the game, make it seem like they're part of the group being inconvenienced. If they lose a little money for it, that's fine. They keep their bets middling and allow a few rounds to go by, just observing how Ichika plays. It seems odd that she is always the one with her hands on the cup. Winner's rules? Maybe the others are just too busy being stressed and drunk to call her on it.

Is she wearing jewelry of any sort? It might be the case that she's using a ring and has small magnets inside the dice. Placing her hands on top of the cup, she forces the dice to turn upwards as she shakes the cup. This results in similar outcomes each time and she would be able to accurately predict the most likely numbers for the dice to land on without necessarily being incredibly suspicious. Now how to point this out in a way that doesn't make it tremendously obvious that they're here just to stir trouble?

"You weren't kidding about her luck," Tomomi jokes to the player sitting just beside them, feigning an air of exhaustion. "Does she always deal? Maybe that's why she has such good luck... Ah, but it is odd that it keeps landing on fives. I wonder if there's something wrong with the dice?"

As Tomomi began to lose their money to Ichika, the rest of the players began to warm up to them. Comrades in losing they were. As a few rounds passed by with Ichika still winning, Tomomi noticed something on the winning woman’s right hand. A ring? It was quite odd for a number of reasons. Would someone married be gambling away their money like this? Or was it part of her fashion. Judging from the well worn clothes on her, probably not. There were clues, but none of them made sense unless you put them together in order. Well-worn clothes, the ring, the weighted die. That was how Ichika was cheating! It was by using the ring to attract the small magnets in the die. And thanks to the rest of her companions being drunk, no one was able to piece it together. At least no one but Tomomi.

Before the person next to Tomomi could respond, Ichika interrupted them with a warning glare.

"Nah I’m just pretty lucky. Either way, I’m calling it for now so you whelps can moan and complain about how the great Ichika stole all your money.”

Pushing herself up from her seat, Ichika began gathering her ill-gained money. As she puts the money into her bag, she gives Tomomi and the slender man beside her a deadly stare. It is quite impactful, seeing as how it's coming from a 6 foot tall muscular woman. And while the slender man wants to call out Ichika, he’s too scared to do it while he’s her center of attention. Still, if someone manages to say the right thing in the right way, the rest of the group will back them up. And judging from the look Ichika is giving, if she is called out, she will no doubt fight her way to the exit. After all, she had won quite a bit of money. Money she didn’t plan on giving up.

They were really hoping they could bait someone else into pointing it out, but it doesn't seem they'll be that lucky. They're going to have to stir everyone to action themselves, and that means they might have to deal with being the target of an attempted punch or two. That's fine. They can probably dodge it, and if not, a few hits aren't going to lay them out. They're not easily put off by threat of pain.

"Leaving so soon? That's too bad. I was having fun."

Since Ichika is busy packing up her ill-gotten money, Tomomi swipes for the cup. They want it to look like they're trying to get a hold of the dice. If they do that, Ichika is sure to instinctively reach out to try to stop them, right? She doesn't want her secret revealed. And they're probably custom made, it'll be annoying for her to have to buy a new set if some random patron at a pub steals them from her. She'll have her hand hovering over the table, right by the dice.

In actuality, Tomomi is only aiming to knock the cup itself over. If Ichika puts her hand over the exposed dice and it causes them to move, well... That will make it immediately obvious that she has been cheating. They do almost feel bad throwing her to the wolves for their own mission. But she is the one who decided to swindle a bunch of angry drunks. And she looks like she can handle herself.

Noticing Tomomi trying to grab her dice, Ichika angrily swipes at their hand. However thanks to her neglect, the cup that held the dice was knocked over, causing the dice to roll a little aways from her hand. Luckily they only rolled a few inches away but before Ichika could grab them, a burly man seated next to her spoke up.

"Huh, fives yet again. How strange.”

Ichika attempted to give the man next to her a glare in order to make him back off. Unfortunately for her, not only would the man not back down, he also had a few friends at the table to back him up. Insults flew around until finally the man who had called her out stood up angrily. While the group was too drunk to figure out how she was cheating, they just knew she was. And that was all they needed.

Taking a swing at Ichika, the man’s eyes widened in shock as she dodged and laid him out flat with a blow to the head. Before she could stomp on his neck, a bottle of alcohol soared through the air towards her and hit her on the head, causing her to stumble back. One of her mates from the other table noticed her friend's predicament and quickly joined in the fight. Chaos ensued. Although it started with this table, more fights began to spread out. Old grievances brought up such as two friends fighting over a girl and other such things.

Noticing one of his expensive displays being grabbed to be used as a weapon, the bartender quickly jumped over and angrily made his way into the mayhem. Fighting was fine, but not if it involved his stuff! And in his haste, he left the doorway to the back unguarded. It would now be quite easy for someone to make their way deeper inside, provided they managed to get through the mayhem of the tavern brawl.

They're going to have to pay off damages after this, aren't they?

They'll work that into their budget later. For now, it's time to move on with the mission. Which means getting through the mess of fighting people. It's hardest in the beginning. Ichika is understandably upset with them, and they're caught up in the thick of it all. They, duck, dodge, and weave their way through people, trying not to be too conspicuous about their escape route even as fists and elbows and kicks fly their way. There isn't much sense to a drunken bar brawl, and once people get going, they don't really care who it is they're throwing a punch at. Tomomi doesn't want to use any jutsu either, because that could easily clue someone in. Best to pretend they're a mediocre fighter who wants nothing to do with this. They play at gradually shrinking away, trying to avoid it all.

When they finally escape from the maelstrom, skirting into the periphery of the fight, they're sure they'll be nursing a couple bruises tomorrow. Tomomi backs off from everyone, slipping around behind the bar. And through the door into the back they go. The sounds of the fight in the front are still noticeable, if muffled, from the back. That'll keep everyone occupied for at least a little while. Until everyone gets kicked out and things get cleaned up, they're guessing.

They take a moment to apply a transformation jutsu. They don't want to look like anyone in particular. Just nondescript, the kind of person you could easily overlook in a crowd. Once they have that set in place, it's time to start searching. They tread cautiously, not wanting to alert anyone to their presence if they can help it. What looks like an area of interest?

DESCRIPTION:
After performing the necessary hand seals, the user transforms their appearance to become that of another person, animal or even an inanimate object. This is considered one of the most advanced academy techniques, as it requires a constant emission of chakra as well as constant mental focus to maintain the transformation. Shinobi are limited to transforming into objects roughly their own size, preventing them from turning into a fly while being able to carry items far greater than their transformed state.

Due to all of the chaos, with a little bit of skill and finesse Tomomi was able to make it into the backroom without anyone noticing. As the cloak of chakra settles around them and disguises their features, they would soon notice a trapdoor leading downwards. Judging from the way the bartender was guarding it, the area down below was where the true dealings happened. And unlike above, these people down below weren’t drunk and wouldn’t take kindly to strangers.

Once Tomomi descended downwards, they would be met with the sight of a long hallway. In the hallway were three rooms, one on each side with the biggest one in the middle further down the hallway. Light was on in the left  and middle room, with the middle one being the loudest. There were several voices coming from there, but the words were too quiet to pick out what they were talking about.

This must be the place that Tomomi’s old friend had found and then subsequently disappeared because of it. This was a problem seeing as how their old friend wasn’t that weak. Only a high ranking ninja would have been able to take them down quickly and quietly as they did. Tomomi would need to be very careful with how she approached this next part. 

As Tomomi approached whichever of the rooms they chose, they would need to remember the objective of the mission. To find out what happened to the mole. What had happened to him might be written down in one of the rooms, but searching the room quietly without alerting the others would be quite a challenging task. If they had even written down what they did to begin with. Someone here knew what had happened, they just needed to figure out who.

The next problem was the approach. Would they try to search the rooms quietly and attempt to find the information and then leave? Would they use their disguise and try to bluff their way through? Or would they go full speed ahead and take out their anger for their old friend? A decision would need to be made.

Suspicious underground rooms. Aren't those always fun? This is where the real danger begins. Their comrade went missing while investigating this area. If they don't want to meet a similar fate, they're going to have to tread carefully. Of course, playing too many cautious games could make their limited time run out and put them in the way of more risk. They could try sneaking into one of the rooms to search out written information, but criminal sects like this rarely write anything down. If they'd brought Tomomi's old friend somewhere, there's limited chance they would've documented it. She's sure she could find records of other goings-on or stolen goods if she went by that way, but the chances of alerting people without learning anything are too high.

Going directly for the ringleader isn't her style. Well, it is, but usually with more planning than this. She's just interested in finding information. She'll start with the small fry, try to bluff her way through and then see what info she can get from them. Worst come to worst, he can employ some less civil methods.

When he has steeled himself, he decides to go right for entering the left room. As long as you move with confidence, people tend to assume that you belong there. And two people is a pretty manageable amount to tackle at first if it goes wrong. He'll just make like he's come into the room to grab something, see if he can pick up any hints of conversation. They don't plan on speaking unless they're spoken to first.

"Who the fuck are you?”

Upon seeing Tomomi’s entrance into the room, the man facing the doorway would let out this statement. Hearing his friend, the other man seated would turn and face Tomomi as well. While the man who questioned them didn’t know everyone in their group, he knew that Tomomi wasn’t one of them. Daiki was very nitpicky about knowing where everyone was at all times and everyone who was supposed to be here was here, hence the reason for all of the chairs having an occupant. If Tomomi had only scoped the place out for a little bit more time, one of the men would have gone to the bathroom, giving them a chance and a hint of a plan to work with. Unfortunately that was no longer an option, and the jounin needed to think quickly before the others in the middle room were alerted.

"I’ll give you five seconds to answer before calling the boss in. He hasn’t been hiring recently so there should be no reason why I shouldn’t recognize you. Plus he would've let us know if he did.”

Giving Tomomi a glare, the man speaking would reach under the table. Due to Tomomi’s position, they wouldn’t be able to see what he was doing with his hands. Was he reaching for a weapon? The other man who had turned to face her would also keep his hands near his pouch as well. He was on guard for any sudden attacks and wasn’t likely to be swayed to think otherwise.

Time was running out and Tomomi would have to make a decision. Were they confident in their bluffing skills? Or would their enemy's ability to see through their lies be stronger?

Damn. Well, sometimes risky maneuvers don't pay off. So sad. They were hoping they'd be able to avoid doing something like this. But it seems like they don't have much of a choice but to employ their clan techniques if they want to avoid every other person in the establishment being called in. If this Daiki is as picky as these two say, they doubt they'll be able to convince him even if they can convince these two. He'll be too suspicious to fall for some casual lies.

They're blocking this doorway, so the two of them won't be able to run out past her. Ah, this is going to suck. "Sorry, the bartender is dealing with a barfight, so he asked me to-" They interrupt their own conversation by lifting their hands up in a Yamanaka hand seal. Dividing their consciousness in two like this is always the strangest feeling, not like the feeling of creating a shadow clone, but literally dividing their own self in two. They send both of those out in an arcing line to try to capture both the men at once. Their own body drops to the ground, unconscious. Tomomi hates doing that.

DESCRIPTION:
This technique allows the user to transfer their consciousness into more than one target by cloning their consciousness, giving them complete control of the bodies for a short period of time. Like the Mind Body Switch Technique, the user's body is left defenseless while the technique is in use. Unlike the Mind Body Switch, this technique can travel in a curved line.

Before the two could react, they were struck by Tomomi’s jutsu. As the Yamanaka’s consciousness surged towards the two men, their body struck the ground with a dull thud. Once they were inside of the two men, Tomomi would quickly notice a few details she hadn’t noticed before. The man farthest away from the door was currently holding onto some sort of strange seal. And judging from the thick blue lines pulsing at an increased pace, it was quite active. The question was what did the seal do?

Although Tomomi managed to take out the two men quietly, they currently had their hands filled with a different problem. The more time passed, the more frequent the seal began to blink. Was it a bomb? Judging from the way it was blinking, something was going to happen, but as for what was a mystery for the Yamanaka. Should they throw the tag as far away from them as they could or ignore the blinking seal?

And seeing as how Tomomi’s inert body is lying in the doorway, there is a high possibility of someone seeing it from the middle room. While those in the room couldn’t hear the sound of their body hitting the floor, one glance upwards would allow them to see the shape of a dark object on the ground. It would be quite suspicious and someone would no doubt be sent to check it out. Still, that was a concern for later. The glowing pulsing seal took precedence!
