CLAN HISTORY [934 to 964] Originally a tribe that sought the Mikatakujira to help them with their "curse” after hearing rumors of their miraculous healing techniques. They were taken in by the iryo specialists and were given aid in exchange for loyalty. Many of the terminally ill were given up for experimentation in hopes of saving their kin. The Dodomeki were not a shinobi clan by the time that Takigakure was established. At the time more than half of their population had a life expectancy that would reach only young adulthood, making training them too risky. Most members of the clan remained test subjects, and those without the gene were used for selective breeding to reduce the frequency of the cancerous growths from overtaking their bodies. The Dodomeki had no participation in the first ninja war. [965 to 976] An experimental treatment on the Dodomeki led to a breakthrough that stopped the growth of the abscesses. This in combination with breeding out the probability of the kekkei genkai led some to want to start allowing the tribe to receive formal training in the academy. At the time the tribe was responsible for many of the civilian commodities in the village such as manual labor, and the idea was met with resistance. The second shinobi war saw a need for more recruits. Members of the clan were put through the academy and moved into the fields of war. It was on the battlefield that Dodomeki Teru’s vestigial eyes opened and the Tokakugan was discovered. With his newfound abilities the genin became a valuable asset to his team in assisting against enemy ambushes. His abilities brought more interest in the tribe and even as the war came to an end the village would continue to train the Dodomeki, officially recognizing them as a clan at a time when Takigakure needed to bring in as many numbers as it could. [977 to 1007] During the third shinobi war, Dodomeki Yogi’s tokakugan was discovered to have been evolved. With his eyes he took control of the clones of his enemies, leading to a decisive victory against a squad of Sunagakure shinobi who had breached the front lines. After using the ability the clone led his team to the hiding spot of the enemies and they were slain. At this point the village also ended the process of selectively breeding out the genetic defect, declaring it to be a kekkei genkai. Even with treatment, some members of the clan could not survive the mutation but it was seen as an acceptable loss. Over the next two generations the relatively small clan would edge out a place for itself in the village, ever loyal to the Mikatakujira for saving them. CLAN ABILITIES During puberty there is a twenty-five percent chance that those carrying the Dodomeki bloodline will begin to form pustulant abscesses on the upper half of their bodies. Without treatment these sores will grow cancerous and slowly deteriorate and lead to a painful death. With the help of medics from the Mikatakujira clan, roughly half of those afflicted survive the mutation. Once stabilized, the abscesses become wrinkled and grow a line of hair down the middle of the sores. For months or even years these sockets remain closed while ocular tissue grows underneath. Tokakugan [Many Eyes]: The awakening of this dojutsu is not painful, but like opening eyes after a long sleep. Each eye opens at a different time, and for the first few days each of them has extreme sunlight sensitivity. Once properly awakened the Tokakugan provides their inheritor with roughly thirty human eyes on their upper torso in various places. This network of eyes provides the user with a three hundred and sixty degree field of vision so long as the majority of their upper body is exposed. The visual acuity of these eyes are not as powerful as most dojutsu, they are capable of identifying chakra constructs but not are otherwise normal human eyes. These additional eyes make those with this kekkai genkai vulnerable to dust and sand. It also undoubtedly makes one more vulnerable to eye contact genjutsu triggers (though this is a double edged sword as they can deliver it more easily as well). In order to protect themselves from these weaknesses Dodomeki typically wear clothing and wrappings to cover the eyes until they are needed. When uncovered, the eyes take time to adjust to light just like normal human eyes do. Uragiri no me [Betrayal Eyes]: As the tokakugan matures the eyes can further evolve to gain a supernatural ability that allows the user to reprogram the minds of chakra constructs. When the glare of one of the eyes meets with a clone, the Dodomeki can release a very low amount of chakra from it that quickly invades their minds. Under the influence of this ability the clone sees its creator as its target, and will use its knowledge and abilities against them under the Dodomeki’s control. It will refuse any commands to disperse itself given by the creator. To maintain this influence on the clone, the Dodomeki must be able to see the construct. Each use of this ability closes one of the eyes until the clone dies, reducing the visual prowess of the dojutsu.
