His plan was genius and he was executing it perfectly when Kuni had to go and ruin it all by literally exploding into a writhing bunch of tentacles and reforming off to the side. She was more of a creepy Eldritch-being than he had originally guessed.

The genin let out a yelp as the support of Kuni holding up the spear disappeared and Hisuiyuri dropped from under his feet. He used the momentum from the short fall to tuck himself into a forward roll, grabbing his spear as he rolled, vaguely aware of the jade pointes returning to their spot at HIsuiyuri’s base. He channeled chakra into the spear again - midroll - and a pale glow covered the polearm.

He ignored her quip about him not letting go of his spear, instead relishing the quiet of that awful genjutsu finally shutting off. The boy wasn’t going to waste his breath explaining just how important his spear was. Honestly, Demon Tentacles over there would probably try and break it if she knew how intricately connected Nari and Hisuiyuri were.

He popped up from his roll with his back towards his opponent, which normally wasn’t a bright idea, but in this instance it saved him - the moment he was upright, the ashes she had thrown towards him ignited and burst, burning into his exposed shoulders and charring his clothes.

Nari gasped in pain at the embers on his skin, tears springing to his eyes, and before he could properly register the injury’s severity, the chunin was in front of him, spinning a kick towards him. Hisuiyuri was brought up quickly, it’s shaft intercepting the brunt of the kick, but Nari still skidded back several inches and the force vibrated down his arms.

"I’m so sorry this is such a drag for you," he snapped at the girl. He shoved forward, using his wind chakra to propel him quickly and try to skirt catercorner to Kuni and aim an arcing swing at her side. She may be some sort of monster thing - but even eldritch beings had a limit to how much damage they could take - and Kuni had been taking a decent beating, from both Nari and Hisuiyuri, so far.

  A young member of the scattered Araikettei Clan, Narihira has the ability to wield the strange and powerful Life Blades. He created his own Blade at a young age, under the tutelage of his mother, however, instead of making a sword as was common for the Clan members, Narihira designed his in the shape of a polearm.

  Giving it the name Hisuiyuri, he began learning to properly wield it from the moment he could hold it. Due to the connection the blade shares with him, should it ever be broken, both Narihora and the blade's soul would die, so he keeps it on his person at all times and cares for it meticulously.
• 『Deep Chakra Pool』[break]
  Narihira was lucky to be born with a deeper-than-average chakra pool. It allows him to fight and use jutsu for longer periods of time before he tires, compared to those with average-sized chakra pools. It's especially useful for him, due to the fact that his Life Blade is constantly absorbing chakra from him. But thanks to the depth of his stores, he never feels the strain from that drain unless he has depleted the polearm's stores in combat.
• 『Life Blade Chakra』[break]
  As all Life Blades, Hisuiyuri absorbs Nari's chakra continuously as he carries it around, stacking up a decent amount of chakra inside of itself equal to half its wielder's chakra pool. The chakra becomes Hisuiyuri's and cannot be accessed by anyone other than the spear, allowing it to have the ability to self-repair small nicks and scratches it may obtain during combat.

  It also allows Hisuiyuri to have its own built-in security in case someone other than Nari grabs onto it. Using its futon chakra, sharp blades of wind will strike at the stranger's hands and arms until they release the spear. These gouges are minor cuts but they do sting quite a bit if they manage to hit skin.

  When entering combat, Hisuiyuri will use its own stores to fuel its abilities until it runs out and then will begin taking from Narihira. Thanks to his deeper-than-average chakra pools the wielder and weapon are able to go for a decent length of time-fighting in that state, but eventually, it will cause Nari to lose consciousness if the spear takes too much chakra.
• 『Flying Jades』[break]
  Using its natural affinity to fūton, Hisuiyuri is able to detach the six small jade points that line the sides of its spearhead and allow them to hover. By sacrificing the shredding ability the points usually grant the spear, Narihira is able to fire them off either one-by-one or all at once towards his opponents.

  At it's current skill level, Hisuiyuri's points move at a speed slightly quicker than a regular thrown kunai, due to being powered by fūton chakra and Narihira's able to control the path the points take up to 30m.

Nari was quick on his feet, and he knew how to adapt even quicker. It was quite impressive to her, so much so, she was earnestly surprised he chose to aim his back to her when she threw the burning ash. It was good he mitigated the damage, bad if she wasn't already committed to her strike. She spun around, dealing a kick against him using her already spinning momentum to make the strike harder. It didn't hit Nari himself but his toy. Which proved to be stronger than an ordinary spear. Kuni couldn't help but give a smirk, she had hatched an extremely terrible idea before forcing it out of her mind. No. I'm only training him, not trying to kill him. Watching him blowback from the strike was entertaining to say the least, but he had definite tears in his eyes as he snapped back at her. The Kunoichi merely held her glare at him as she felt some chakra release from her.

Assuming he still looked at her, he'd find his plans once again ruined by invisible concrete all over him. Kuni folded her arms, "Any further and we'll no longer be training but a full-on spar. The fact I put you in this is a testament to just exactly how capable you are. You're fast enough to dance around me and capable enough for me to strike harder than friendly. Nari, you're speed was good to start with and you just showed me both your speed and quick thinking. I'm not a speedy individual so outpacing me is an easy-to-reach milestone I believe I saw you attain. But, I definitely suggest Etsuko or the apprentice, Akio. They are both so much more faster than me and probably have better training routines than I just striking at you to see if you can dodge."

Kunikunosaku held the genjutsu just a little longer till she thought she'd see him practically give up trying to resist. "I do need some more training as I'm going to a very dangerous place in a couple of months... Well, actually a lot. But, if you wish to stop here, that is fine as well, Nari." No longer restricted to his movements, Nari was free to follow her suggestion, free to go back to whatever the hell he was doing, or free to continue trying. The figurative ball was in his court.

Jiongu | Earth Grudge Fear

After having to recycle the roots that ended up killing the previous Apprentice just to transfer Jiongu to Kunikunosaku, the mass of black roots recollects most of its abilities from the Apprentice previous while forming new ones with its new master/host, Kunikunosaku. As far as the roots are concerned, like any organism, it desires to feed and survive, all else is not required, nor necessary to function. As for the Symbiotic Relationship benefits Kunikunosaku can control the thread-like roots however she wishes. The thread are quite versatile, acting much like surgical threads they can be used to sew up wounds stretch, or harden for attacks akin to squid tentacles, as well as being equally flexible and significantly dexterous. In time, Kunikunosaku will learn that as long as they keep a heart attached to at least some of the roots making up her body at all times, she is functionally immortal, only dying once all the threads are completely removed from any living hearts, and is unable to be poisoned. Because all of her vital organs and their corresponding systems are gone, Kunikunosaku has no need to breathe, eat, or sleep. The roots are sufficiently maintained by storing hearts that are pumping and living, in turn drawing sustenance from them. These roots also allow Kunikunosaku to utilize the inherent nature of any hearts she adds to their body, allowing them to perform jutsu of that element as if it was their natural affinity.

Symbiotic Relationship: Mutualism

After gaining knowledge on how Jiongu behaves and acts, Kunikunosaku developed a strong bond with the Jiongu entity. Accepting both live in her now; that both are what makes up Kunikunosaku. As a result of this understanding and bond, Jiongu aids her in combat - despite being a small boost. When conditions are met, Jiongu can provide an aided strength boost to Kunikunosaku during combat. It is still relative to her natural strength at the time. While this has no speed benefits, this boost of strength can put her up to par with the max strength of her peers at the same rank level. As she matures and gains new skills and new statuses. So too does her strength grow.

Symbiotic Bond: Strong Mind, Strong Body
As Kunikunosaku developed a stronger relationship with Jiongu, the creature bestowed Kunikunosaku an additional gift. That which is bestowed grants her the body as strong as her will. As long as she has the will to fight and keep pushing forward, Kunikunosaku has attained a sense of a strong body. She can still feel all the pain she receives, however, her will will push through it; literally making her body push through the pain and maintain functionality despite the egregious wounds she may receive. Overwhelming pain at one time or other will breaking input can debilitate the girl's will-driven tolerance to falter to the degree of an average shinobi, opening her up to common pain. It is this will that allows her to force the tendrils/roots/threads to repair themselves from injury or stitch back together. This will increases with her skill as she becomes more confident and driven to satiate both her needs and Jiongu's.

Power of a God:
After a great time learning how to control Jiongu, Kunikunosaku has learned to store chakra in each of her threads so long as they continue to be attached to at least one of her hearts. This extra storage capacity allows the girl to amass greater amounts of chakra within herself, expanding her reserves beyond that of the normal shinobi her rank. As with many other abilities, this ability continues to grow as the girl does through the ranks and years.

Cursed Master:

As a reward for attaining a greater deal of control over her symbiotic relationship with Jiongu, Kunikunosaku acquired the keys to the gate of mastering her abilities. This new boon allows Kunikunosaku to double the impact of her EGF ninjutsu. In addition, a passive boon is the ability to completely negate Jiongu's manipulation to consume more hearts. These boons together allow Kuni to further manipulate Jiongu against its basic natures, improving her unique utilization. While still young and unrefined, the ability is expected to grow as their bond deepens to even further levels.

As the name suggests, the user binds the opponent in a genjutsu by the opponent viewing the user glare, rendering them incapable of movement; and this genjutsu can be used on more than one target at the same time. Unlike other genjutsu that use illusory objects to stop movements, this genjutsu simply affects the target's sense of touch to make it feel as if every inch of their body surrounded by hardened cement, effectively paralyzing the target. Once the target(s) are bound, the user or an ally can rush up to the enemy and deliver a devastating killing blow.

He had a plan, but once again he forgot to take genjutsu into account and it mucked everything up to high heaven. The moment the two combatants’ eyes met, the genin felt something heavy settle over his body and his limbs screeched to a halt. Nari decided he hated genjutsu with a passion and desperately needed to find a way to make it so it was less of a nuisance in the future.

Unable to move, he braced himself as best he could for whatever assault Kunikunosaku was about to unleash when he was thrown for yet another loop as she threw words instead. A lot of words.

That was a…compliment, right? At least he was thinking it was a compliment - possibly wrapped up in an insult. She was giving him a compliment? Nari’s brain struggled to leave combat mode and process that Kuni was pulling back for the moment. The girl had been insulting him rather rudely up until this moment, so his confusion was warranted.

He guessed that the fact that she needed to resort to mind-trickery to stop him from dancing around was some sort of a merit badge towards his abilities. Still was a dick move in his mind, but whatever.

Staring at her, Nari looked around at his situation. It wasn’t like he had much of an option. Feeling the genjutsu leave his limbs, Nari shifted awkwardly, shaking the ghost of stiffness from his limbs. Pausing for a second, considering his options, the genin spun Hisuyuri and slid the spear back into its holster upon his back.

"Yeah, stopping might be a good idea," he said as he studied his arms.

He was tired, legs aching, even from the short fight. Plus, he had a multitude of minor burns along his arms that he’d need to treat so they didn’t get infected. Plus, he was pretty sure Kuni had been holding back her full capabilities, he didn’t want to think what she would pull out of her arsenal if they kept going on with this fight.

Stopping here was best for both of them.

He thanked her for the recommendations for furthering his training. Maybe he’d seek them out, see if any of them could help with his training. Or he might just continue on his own until an actual team for him formed up proper. But those were thoughts for tomorrow. For now, he needed a first-aid kit.

"I’m gonna head home for now, actually," his arms were starting to smart badly, now that his adrenaline was tapering off. "But good luck on your mission. Maybe we can meet up again when you come back."

Maybe not for training. But she was still his old friend, so ignoring her wouldn’t be optimal. So he waved to her as she went off to do her own Eldritch-being thing before he turned to go home and dig out the first-aid kit his mom kept hidden somewhere in their house.
