CLAN IDEOLOGY

The Shirime like everything out in the open. The culture of the clan encourages a lack of inhibition or manners and instead focuses on exploring creativity and passion. They are taught the value of sharing and expression from an early age, and those members of the clan who reject this ideology are often teased as being rotten eggs.

The way that Shirime are brought up makes them a bit abrasive to those outside of the clan. Manners are not a part of the Shirime vocabulary or culture. Games of exchanging flatulence are common, contests of who can do the loudest or longest farts can happen at almost any time, even at the dinner table. Two schools of thought have divided the clan on what makes the perfect toot.

Those that adhere to the 'Way of the One-Eyed Bullfrog' believe that the sheer volume of a flatus is what matters. Those that are fans of this ideology often come from a stock with larger chakra pools. On the other end of the spectrum is the 'Path of the Skipping Rock' who value feats of high skill and the overall length of the fart over its volume, often practiced by those with good chakra control.

Despite divided ideology, the clan is brought together by a common bond. They all agree that it is the smell that is most important, and that the competition brings their families together more than it divides them. There are no official scorings and for the most part everyone in the clan has a good laugh regardless of which discipline they think is better. The only competitive match within the clan is the dreaded 'agni kai' [lit meaning: to burn], in which someone challenges the leader of the clan for their position.

CLAN HIERARCHY

The clan is led by a single leader, known as the Crepitus. The Crepitus is chosen in a contest of the clans hijutsu and must maintain their superiority to stay the leader. It is a difficult position to maintain, because challengers do not have to give notice and if one hasn't eaten a proper diet the day of the challenge they may find themselves with a weaker flatus prowess.

Beneth the Crepitus is the Wind-Breaker. The Wind-Breaker is the leader of whichever philosophy of the clan is not represented by the Crepitus. Being the Wind-Breaker is both an honor and a burden. They are barred from challenging the Crepitus, but they are his most trusted advisor. It is traditional that the Wind-Breaker is the former Crepitus, butt if a new Crepitus is of the same ideology then the Wind-Breaker is not replaced. For this reason the Wind-Breaker is often more elderly than the Crepitus.

Beneath these leadership ranks the clan has no formal system. One's farts must speak for themselves.

CLAN HISTORY

The clan began its history as a tribe lurking along the roads of the Basin Country. Wild and untamed, most of their interactions with others came from mischief on the roads, often trying to scare travelers away with foul smells in order to protect their territory.

Existing in the country before most other peoples who migrated to the basin country, the tribe was often warned of by travel guides. They were hunter gatherers and were not welcoming to outsiders. They stuck to themselves as other groups started moving into the area, and their lands were for the most part undesirable because of the rancid stench surrounding them.

In 945 the tribe became divided by the emergence of an unorthodox idea. Originally the tribe chose its leader by the one who could fart the loudest. Emerging to challenge the leader was one whose fart was drawn out and rumbled in an amusing way. The tribe became divided over who the winner was.

The Mikatakujira learned of the divide and began to support the minority group who believed that the new school of thought was better. They learned better chakra control methods from them and became even better at what they did. Throughout this time a relationship between the tribe's outliers and the Mikatakujira became strong, though it did sour things further within the tribe.

The tribe was on the brink of civil war. It wasn't until the Crepitus appointed the first Wind-Breaker from those following the 'Path of the Skipping Rock' that tensions started to die down. In the beginning it was more of an honorary position that was intended to keep the tribe together.

Years later, the Crepitus blew his stomach out and died. The Wind-Breaker attempted to declare themselves the new leader of the tribe, but traditionalists who followed 'The Way of the One-Eyed Bullfrog' were having none of it. They elected their own new leader. In an outrage the Rock-Skippers continued to acknowledge their own leader. Talks of leaving the tribe to join Takigakure became popular.

Violence began breaking out among the youth, and neither leader wanted to see brother against sister. They agreed to begin judging the winner of an agni kai by the smell of a fart rather than it's sound. The tribe was brought back together and there was much rejoicing.

Eventually, the tribe saw the success of Takigakure and pledged its allegiance to it. A generation has passed and the clan's stinking arts have only gotten more deadly with formal training.

CLAN ABILITIES

Heton [Flatulence Release]
Heton is a jutsu style that involves manipulating flatulence. Heton at its core was developed to ward away dangerous wild animals by disrupting their scent abilities. The smell of heton techniques is so foul that they can cause eyes to water and a general desire for death. Those with enhanced senses of smell have been known to violently vomit in the presence of these jutsu. Within the jutsu set are two sub-disciplines: The Way of the One-Eyed Bullfrog uses a special stance that enables powerful soundwaves to accompany their flatulency for those with the reserves to use them. The other set is the Path of the Skipping Rock, which condenses chakra to allow for more concentrated ranged attacks.
