2nd Round Begins

Yuki Shizuha

The man eyed Shizuha again, hefting the Yuki chuunin's bag in his hands as he inspected its contents for the final time. This particular Kusagakure chuunin had been assigned to guiding Shizuha to her starting point in the labyrinth, as well as ensuring that she had changed into the provided uniform and turned in any unauthorized equipment. As per his instructions, he spoke minimally to the genin participant, only opening his mouth to relay commands and answer questions that pertained to information that Shizuha would have already been briefed on.

And now that they were standing before the entrance to the labyrinth, the chuunin seemed to ease up just a bit. The hard expression on his face softened as he handed the bag back to Shizuha, pointing to the top of the entrance where a simple electrical timer counted down the seconds until the Yuki genin would be allowed into the tunnels before them. He remained silent as the final minute passed, answering any more questions that Shizuha may have asked though most of the bases would have been covered already. When the timer finally hit zero, a soft 'ding' played from it, and the chuunin gently nudged Shizuha forward.

This was the last chance for the Yuki genin to back out, but if she chose to step forward she'd officially begin the 2nd round of the exams. The entrance to the labyrinth appeared to be a plain door, but once she stepped through, a wall of earth would rise up from behind her, preventing her from exiting the way she came. The tunnel ahead of her started off more like a modern hallway, clean tiles and lightbulbs above. After only a few or so meters down, however, the hallway quickly transitioned into a more natural tunnel, with the walls, floors, and ceiling being made from dirt and stone, and the lighting coming to an abrupt stop. The question now was, what would Shizuha do?

A quiet hallway walking into an unknown area for many people. Shizuha was about to start the second round of the Chuunin Exams. As for this time she is being escorted by a Chuunin from Kusagakure as he would inspect her belongings in the bag making sure she wasn’t trying to hide anything inside. Wearing the uniform that was provided by the village it self she wasn’t quite sure what was the point besides keeping everyone looking the same throughout this section of the exams. With her headband around her neck she looked over at the Chuunin before resting at the entrance of the labyrinth waiting for the timer to hit zero.

Once the timer did hit zero though, the nudge of the Chuunin made her think one last time if she was really wanting to do this. If anything she could always press the button if she felt threaten to continue with the exams. With that though she decided to step into the entrance hearing the entrance shut on her.

"This is for you.”

She whispered to herself in refer to her mom as well as her father back at home. Walking down the hallway was quite strange but continuing she would notice the change in the hallway even more that would eventually end up with little to no lighting as well as many different tunnels. The only thing now was to decide which one she was wanting to take. With a deep breath she continues down one of the tunnels.

In Utter Darkness

Everything other than the provided uniform and objects Shizuha had gathered during the first round would have been confiscated, including the headband around her neck which the chuunin escorting her would have asked for if necessary. In any case, the Yuki genin steeled her resolve before entering the labyrinth, solidifying her participation in the 2nd round of the chuunin exams.

For the time being there was only one path to choose from, still more of a hallway for the first few meters before becoming a true tunnel of earth. Continuing on would be relatively easy for a bit, the lightbulbs of the entrance giving off just enough light to let Shizuha continue another dozen or so meters, but eventually those lights no longer sufficed and the genin would be forced to traverse in complete darkness. Unless she procured some sort of way to make light, the genin would be at the mercy of the maze, needing to rely on touch to navigate its earthy depths, unable to tell if multiple paths opened up at certain junctions and potentially bumping into the occasional sudden stone wall.

Still, depending on the Yuki shinobi's persistence and decisions, there was a chance the genin would be able to chance upon a better situation.

Continuing down the hallway the fade of light would slowly dissipate. The only thing she could see left is complete darkness. With no waste in time she would start weaving hand signs as she prepares to walk down the hallway into the maze. Although she has no idea where to really go the first instinct for her is to mark the entrances that she has travel through with a kunai.

Although it’s hard to see she wasn’t even sure if she’ll find the right area to go through. Walking down the first part of the maze she does find another path that lead to another hallway. Etching a marker in the wall she would enter to the next hallway and continue to walk down it until she finds another entrance or even the dead end.

Even finding a dead end would help her a little bit as she would mark it on the wall to let her know not to head back down that way. If she finds herself another entrance she would again sketch a marker to let her know that she’s been there and would continue to maneuver around the maze.

With complete silence, Shizuha would continue to do so just in case someone else would try and surprise her. Even her footsteps would be quite walking down the hallways.

Pillars of Pain

While there was potentially something admirable about courageously moving forward through pitch black tunnels, in this scenario it would not yield positive results. As the Yuki genin moved, she began triggering several traps that had been set for this very purpose, seals that when activated caused pillars of earth to shoot out from the walls, ceiling, and floor, possibly smacking directly into Shizuha and slamming her against the opposite sides of the tunnels. The traps weren't so common that they triggered on every step and they telegraphed their attack well in advanced with a distinct noise, but in the darkness she would need to rely on her sense of hearing and direction to avoid being brutally crushed by pillars of earth.

The silver lining, however, was that once a trap was triggered the danger in that area would no longer be present. Parts of the labyrinth that she successfully maneuvered through were safe to backtrack through, and if she continued her method of marking the entrances and dead ends, she'd eventually find one dead end that seemed a bit peculiar. The wall would seem to be much smoother than the rest of the maze, and striking against it would produce a sound that indicated that there might be something on the other side of that wall.

After walking a few steps into the dark tunnel the triggers of traps were set off. Of course Shizuha wasn’t able to see the traps at all but she was able to hear the clicking of the traps going off. But with no luck into reacting in time she was unfortunately crushed by the traps. Although in some pain. The Yuki carried on going through dead end after dead end.

Finally approaching a new hallways that felt little different than what she was use to feeling. She realized that this one was more smooth and less like a soil texture. It was almost like it wasn’t suppose to be here or yet she wasn’t suppose to be there. But with little selection left in the maze she decided to try and look for a switch or something that could help her with the weird wall.

If so happens she did find a switch she didn’t press it immediately but instead took cation as it could be another trap. That being said she would cast an Ice clone before considering to proceed on with what she’s needing to do to continue on with the maze. If she didn’t find a switch she would turn back around and navigate through the halls of darkness to see if there was any other passage she hasn’t been through yet.

A Sliver of Light

Shizuha continued to move through the tunnels without a source of light, putting her at a massive disadvantage when it came to evading the triggered traps. The Yuki genin suffered a few hits from the earthen traps, no doubt causing some bruising and minor damage, but nothing that would leave her completely incapacitated.

When she did eventually investigate the strange wall, she'd find no trace of a switch anywhere nearby, though in the darkness it would be very difficult to feel every possible surface. The act of creating a clone, however, did seem to stir something up in the wall, just the slightest tremor emanating from it before it went still again. Checking the wall again would confirm that it had budged just the slightest amount, a bit of light emanating from a crack that was now in the side. The light was was dim and flickered erratically, hinting that it was perhaps from a torch or natural fire, but it was impossible to be sure without removing the wall entirely.

If Shizuha decided to backtrack and navigate the halls once more, she'd find only more traps and dead ends before arriving back at the strange wall. It seemed the only way forward was to figure out how to get past it.

After finding out there’s no switch around the weird textured wall she notice that something on the other side was moving the wall. In the background was a slight light up light source of some sort. It was only happening after she perform her ice clone though. If there was something on the other side it would be prepared to attack at something.

Looking at her clone she figured out something she would want to do. But for the time being she started to preform hand signs and cast a technique. Gathering water from the canteen of water that was provided to her she forged a shape of three ice swords that she would accurately launch at the wall. If it was enough to bust the wall down though she was ready for whatever was on the other side. Performing another set of hand signs and to wait to see if anything will jump out. If not she would use the hand sign to prepare for another attempt at the wall once more.

It was only a matter of time until she figures out what is in front of her and it was only a matter of time until she’ll have to do her thing.

Light in the Darkness

The Yuki genin noted the slight movement in the wall, as well as the flickering light that shone through the crack. It only took Shizuha a moment to come to a decision, one that would prove to be fruitful. The ice swords launched themselves forward pushed themselves into the walling, piercing about halfway through before getting stuck. The swords vibrated for a moment before shattering, the damage that should've been left behind repairing itself before Shizuha's eyes. However, while the attack didn't break through the wall, the moment the ice had touched it, the wall slid open another few inches.

The gap wasn't quite wide enough for the Yuki genin to squeeze through, but looking through the gap would give the girl a better view of what was going on the other side. Like the terrain so far, the labyrinth continued on, but she would be able to confirm that the flickering light she saw came from a torch hanging from the wall, the first, additional source of light she had encountered thus far. Beyond the torch, the tunnel veered off suddenly in both directions, making it nigh impossible to tell what lie even further. First, Shizuha had to finish getting past the sliding wall.

While looking at the wall that seems to be still intact, Shizuha notice that the light flickering between the crack portion of the wall was certainly the way to go. The only issue is, she would have to find another way to bust down the wall. Although the last attack she did work to a point she thought it might be best to try it again.

Grabbing some water from the canteen again. Shizuha would forge more ice swords. This time though she would forge a few extra. Just like last time she would launch the swords into what looks like already broken down wall. Hoping that this time it would break it enough for her to fit through it.

If it didn’t break it open enough for her to fit through, she would look around for a couple of seconds to think of what she could do next by either going back and trying to find another way through or perhaps try again. It wasn’t to much of a hassle although with a slight light source flicking in the background did make, he feel more calm and less anxious about trying to get out. The slight light is all what she needed to focus even more now which would then make her prepare another set of hand signs.

Striking the wall with more ice swords would prove to do the trick. Like before, the earthen construct simply repaired whatever damage was done to it, but with each attack the wall slid open a few more inches until it was completely out of the way. Now the Yuki genin was free to investigate the way forward more thoroughly. The first thing to note was the state of the torch. It was clear that it was only loosely attached to the wall, implying that it was meant to be taken and carried by hand. And with the newfound light it was also easier to see just how natural the walls of the labyrinth were. Loose earth and stones made up the walls, ceilings, and floors, with a few patches looking as if though it might collapse at the slightest touch.

Further ahead, as she already saw, the tunnel split off in both directions, but they were pitch black as well. In order to progress down them, it would most likely be prudent to bring the torch along. Alternatively, Shizuha had the choice to go back through the tunnels she had already gone through, this time with the benefit of having a light, however.

After seeing the wall break open enough for Shizuha to fit through the first thing she did was grab the light source. Now it was only a matter of does she wanted to proceed through the new opening or maybe go back and check out the passage behind her incase she didn’t miss anything.

Shizuha thought for a second before making the decision to just continue on. Grabbing the torch, she would proceed towards the new set of passage where she decided to take the right one. Being able to see the hallway better she kept her eyes out for anything suspicious mostly boobytraps or anything that might tamper with her being able to progress.

Same as last time, Shizuha would also start marking the ways she’s been with her kunai trying to figure out where she’s needing to go next. Even though she’s able to see Shizuha had found it more secured to keep marking her areas as well as keeping watch between each hall and behind her for any ambushes or even other type of traps that could be set around the area.

If there was nothing special with the right passageway, she would turn around and start heading to the left side in hopes that there could be another way towards something that will progress her through this maze.

Ambush!

The Yuki genin grabbed the torch from the wall without pause, though she did take a moment to consider what she wanted to do from there. After making a decision, Shizuha chose to follow the right tunnel, keeping her eyes open for any additional traps. Of course, now that she could see better, there were practically no traps to speak of, no doubt an intentional design choice by the proctors of this exam.

She wisely kept a shuriken in hand, which would save her precious moments of retreiving it from her bag. The right tunnel was practically empty for the first dozen meters or so, though it did wind from side to side, ensuring that Shizuha couldn't see too far down its length all at once. As she marked the walls, a clap would suddenly ring out from up ahead, a sheet of cloth that looked exactly like soil falling away from the wall and revealing another person. He was a white-haired, dark skinned male, dressed in the same uniform as her, and it seemed that he had been using a sheet to utilize the Cloak of Invisibility technique, but that was the least of Shizuha's concerns now. Even before his camouflage had hit the ground, he hands were parting from his earlier clap, and now he was sending a single glass shuriken spiraling in the Yuki genin's direciton, aimed squarely for her chest.

Walking though the windy hallway the first thing that Shizuha would hear is a loud clap. Knowing that someone just gave away there position was one thing but the fact that they manage to throw a glass shuriken was another thing.

With no hesitation though she would throw her shuriken in her hand at the glass one. With no time wasted she weaved a set of hand signs. Gathering moister in the air, the temperature would fall as the Yuki would disappear in the frosty mist. With that though she would weave another set of hand signs. This time though she would gather some water from her canteen and start forging ice swords. But before she does anything with the swords she grabs one before launching the rest of them at a pin point accuracy of where she last knew where the opponent was at.

With the sword in her hand though she would set up a defensive stance waiting to see if the mystery Genin would come up close to her. It was only a matter of time if the training that Ryuunosuke taught her would pay off or even give her the benefits.

Looking around in the mist she waits to see what the boy would do as well as preparing her next attack by weaving another set of handsigns.

DESCRIPTION:

By gathering the moisture present in the atmosphere, the user produces visually clouding frost by causing the temperature of air to fall below the freezing point, effectively freezing any ambient water vapour in the vicinity. The frost allows the user to become transparent within it. Upon being struck with an attack, the user becomes visible. The mist is visible to the naked eye, but since the user is transparent it voids that sense. While it cannot fool the Byakugan, but, due to the frost being created with the user's chakra, any Sharingan-user will see the frost coloured by their opponent's chakra, which will effectively hide the user from the dōjutsu.

Inferno

Shizuha reacted to the ambush quickly, throwing her shuriken in order to counter the one sent in her direction. The two ninja tools clashed in the air, both ricocheting in random directions, though Shizuha's maintained much more momentum. The torch no doubt had to have been discarded or something in order to both weave handseals as well as open her canteen.

Like the Yuki genin, the mystery male began weaving handseals as soon as his weapon left his hand, a set of four before he was expelling oil from his gut, simultaneously lighting it on fire: the classic fireball technique. The blazing heat of the fire was overwhelming, and if Shizuha had any frame of reference, she'd feel that these flames were definitely hotter than the average katon ninjutsu, more than enough to do away with the ice swords she launched at the male. The tight tunnels of the labyrinth made it so that there was no way to evade the fireball horizontally, though its winding nature meant that a backwards maneuver would keep one safe from most projectiles.

However Shizuha decided to deal with the fireball shot in her direction, the male began moving away after his jutsu, darting behind the corner further down into the tunnel.
