Honō Hosagiri The Molten Fist of Kusa BASIC INFORMATION NAME: Honō Hosagiri AGE: 19 GENDER: Male BIRTHDAY: July 15th VILLAGE: Kusagakure no Sato CLAN: Honō Clan RANK: Chuunin POSITION: Operations Team 1 (Team Member) OTHER ALIAS: 'Molten Fist of Kusa'
APPEARANCE HEIGHT: 5ft 9in. WEIGHT: 165lbs.
His dark eyes are framed in long lashes, bearing intelligence and sadness in equal measure. His mouth is set in a perpetual frown, as if very little is worth the effort of a smile. His smooth, handsome face denotes his serious nature, framed in long, straight hair hanging well past his waist, often kept in a loose ponytail so as not to impede his movements.
He is of average height, his svelte figure a testament to his prowess as a hard-working shinobi. Despite being lean and toned, much like many other Honō clan members, his body is a hardened, durable temple due to harsh taijutsu training from an early age as is his clan’s tradition.
His attire tends to be an eclectic collection of long sleeved haori and comfortable tunic robes along with a sash or belt around his waist. His feet are typically clad in flat, casual footwear. His clothing is designed to be loose and comfortable to allow for ease of movement as a taijutsu practitioner, but when on active duty or undergoing a mission, Hosagiri dons the typical get-up of a village shinobi.
PERSONALITY NINDO: "as the grass of the field beneath the burden of the wind, bend but never be broken in adversity."
The achievement of his life’s ambitions—establishing goals, identifying challenges, and overcoming them through hard work and merit—resides at the core of Hosagiri’s being. Adopting the ideology of his clan, Hosagiri always seeks the next accomplishment to be obtained so as to build his individual merit and present himself worthy. .
His ambition knows no end. As soon as he accomplishes something noteworthy, he pushes for the next stage or level to be achieved, taking little time to acknowledge and relish those accomplishments for he fears, more than anything, a spirit filled with hubris. There is no barrier or ceiling Hosagiri believes he cannot breach; no heights impossible for him to attain with the right perspective and dedication.
Despite how much one may accomplish in life, the nature of one’s destiny is impossible to surmise. This fills Hosagiri with more than a hint of anxiety at the prospect of meeting an untimely end before achieving all he has set his heart to. It pushes him to work hard, almost non-stop, and this is often to his own detriment. He is afraid of never grasping his life’s goals.
Life’s challenges are unpredictable. No matter how hard he may try, he understands there will come adversities that cannot be avoided and for that reason, Hosagiri strives to rise to meet the challenge of any obstacles that cross his path. To face one’s demons head on, even at the risk of death, is to temper one’s soul like iron giving birth to perseverance and character.
Though his desires are true and his intentions are noble, any and everyone can see that what Hosagiri needs most of all is an appreciation of his present instead of always looking towards the future he desires. He needs to learn to live for the moment and appreciate what is right in front of him, or he will never be satisfied no matter how many achievements and merits are attached to his name.
HISTORY Raised in the ideology of the Honō clan, young Hosagiri was taught from a young age that one’s greatest accomplishments were the feats and merits tied to one’s own name. Honor and achievement brought glory to the clan, to the village, and especially the individual. Hosagiri worked hard to make his clan and his parents proud.
He entered the Ninja Academy, full of excitement and hope and more than prepared to tackle the challenges that lay ahead. Instructed in the way of shinobi since he could walk, Hosagiri took to his academy lessons with fervor. He wasn’t the brightest student, but he demonstrated a strength of spirit that saw him eventually accomplish every task his instructors set before himself and his class.
Just a few short years later, the big day came. Eager to impress his parents, young Hosagiri performed the staple academy jutsus as instructed by his teacher and received his final passing marks. It didn’t take him long to realize they weren’t present during the graduation ceremony. Dismayed, Hosagiri tried to enjoy this great achievement with his academy friends. Surely his parents, decorated shinobi in their own right, had good reasons for missing the festivities.
His worst fears were confirmed when relatives showed up to the ceremony, somber expressions etched onto their faces. Hosagiri left the ceremony early, running all the way home to their clan’s compound. A group of their clan stood around in a circle, lamenting and vowing revenge all at once. A bloodied sheet rested on the ground, two human shaped lumps beneath it.
It was the last time he ever smiled. The last time anyone heard Hosagiri’s bright laughter or felt the hope instilled within him to bear proudly the name of his clan and his village. His first day as a Genin was a somber experience; he joined his new squad and team leader forever changed. His squad leader immediately noticed the change. Hosagiri was withdrawn and reclusive, but his results were excellent.
Whether running errands, carrying groceries, or locating lost pets, Hosagiri took to his missions with unprecedented fervor. He treated every task and objective as if it were life-or-death, for in his mind it was. The loss of his parents taught him a lesson most shinobi didn’t learn until much later in their lives—death was encroaching. It was a thief of dreams, and Hosagiri was determined to achieve all he desired before death could snatch anything else from him.
Through the years, his resolve did not waver; it strengthened, driving him to succeed. Whe he failed, he kept trying until he reached his established goal. He became an experienced Advanced Genin, soon outpacing even his squad mates, much to the chagrin of his squad leader. His squad leader tried to instill in him a sense of teamwork and camaraderie. He wanted Hosagiri to understand the importance of a strong bond with his fellow shinobi.
Hosagiri, however, disagreed. Bearing the mantle of his clan’s kekkei genkai, he possessed the strength and ability to succeed. He did not want to rely on others for his own merit, nor did he want to get close, only to have death snatch someone dear to him again. He would instead work to protect his family, his squad, and his clan.
His hard work and training culminated in the Chuunin Exams. He had never been challenged in such a manner, and facing off against his peers not only thrilled him, but showed him how ill-prepared he was to tackle true-to-life challenges. His goals were just beyond his grasp, but if he could not meet the standards exposed by his instructors, Hosagiri would surely fail and bring shame and honor to his family’s memory.
So he did what he always did, since the day his parents were killed: he set his gaze upon the goal and fought for it with all of his might. His exam scores were passable, and his practical exams were decent. His instructors, noting his tendency to focus solely on his own task at the detriment of assisting his squad mates, deliberated a long time over his results.
In the end, they determined it was the trauma of losing his parents at a young age that shaped his naivety, but his exam results could not be argued against. He was promoted to the rank of Chuunin with the hopes that some real world experience would teach him the value of forming strong bonds with his fellow villagers, but the dangerous nature of their duty would cause Hosagiri to understand the importance of enjoying life’s simplicities.
Three years later, Hosagiri has settled well into his new status as one of his village’s guardians and protectors. He caught the eye of the first Operations Team Leader due to his quick thinking and exceptional taijutsu, and after a few preliminary trials where he was observed during his missions, Hosagiri was promoted to team member of Team 1.
He has never been more determined to surpass each boundary laid before him. He wants to make his parents proud, honoring their memory by ensuring he gained enough strength to protect his clan and his village, never to relive the horror of losing his loved ones again.
FIGHTING STYLE His strategy in battle is simple: Hosagiri overwhelms his foes with his exceptional taijutsu, forcing them to react and not giving them time to think or strategize a method by which to defeat him. He delivers quick, powerful punches and kicks, keeping the distance between himself and his foes as close as possible, hoping to overwhelm and outlast them with his enhanced stamina and speed.
There are times when fighting close isn’t possible or his foe is far too dangerous to engage in hand-to-hand combat. At that point, Hosagiri employs the use of Ninjutsu, specifically his Lava Release in a bid to intimidate and entrap his foes. It is especially useful in a wide, flat terrain such as grasslands or wastelands—places rich with soil ready to be utilized for his purposes.

SPECIAL ABILITIES
Yoton: Lava Release As a member of the illustrious Honō clan, Hosagiri bears the ability to utilize Yoton, or Lava Release. His proficiency is decent enough as he tends to favor Taijutsu, but he continues to grow and practice as it is perhaps his greatest advantage when facing off against foes unfamiliar with such a unique kekkei genkai.
Enhanced Stamina Having been drilled from early youth, Hosagiri has honed his body to withstand greater strain, building up his stamina and endurance. He is able to fight physically for extended periods of time with no reprieve, and a natural resistance to heat (due to the nature of his clan’s bloodline) permits him to endure using his lava release in close quarters without fear of harming himself.
