Often shortened simply to "Zhen" and used as an alias by Rien, it is a name given to him by his fellow Mist Ninja. Rien has never liked the delicate connotations of his name, no matter how much his mother has claimed it to fit his face and hair, he garnered the name due to the way in which he fights. He is light on his feet and dizzyingly quick, his movements often appearing more like gliding or flight than actually running, while the poisons he has integrated into his body has felled many a foe. All of this is tied together with his favored weapon, the clawed gauntlet, giving his style of fighting resemblance to a poisonous bird of prey.

Rien is attractive in the way a snake with opalescent scales is attractive: it is a breathtaking sight but all the while one’s nerves are on edge, ready for the creature to strike. He is a tall figure, seemingly rail thin due to the large flowing clothing he favors, and while he has no visible musculature when he flexes it is apparent that he is an experienced warrior.
Rien’s complexion is a pale shade, almost as though he has never seen the light of day. His hair is cut short around the nape of his neck, however he keeps his bangs long so that they may fall to and obscure his eyes from sight. His hair is an unusual silver shade, often bringing to mind the purest lotus petals, which was his mother’s inspiration for his given name.
Rien possesses sharp, angular features, and is compared to the snakes that his clan favors as inspiration for their techniques and style of combat. His eyebrows are thin, though are the same silver color as his hair so often disappear against his pale skin. He keeps his eyes narrowed, almost completely closed, but when they open it is to reveal a shockingly bright shade of blue.
Rien favors clothing that hides his form, keeping to his nature of his true self away so others underestimate the depths of his viciousness. This clothing also works to hide the plethora of scars that litter his body from years of training, as well as past battles that had gone almost fatally awry for the silver haired shinobi. The most prominent of these scars is a large "x” like mark that spans most of his chest, centered directly over his heart.

Rien is an extremely fickle person. Their interests and attentions change like the seasons, going from paying attention to one thing to being distracted by even the most mundane of occurrences. Because of this, he is extremely unreliable when it comes to completing certain tasks. Or...any tasks at all really. It is a grave mistake to give Rien a job to do, as it is very likely it just won't get done. This can be frustrating to many, especially those with something of importance to ask of him, however it is a carefully curated ruse, constructed so that people underestimate him and his skills.
Rien isn’t one to construct a ruse poorly, so there appears to be a few things that hold his interest, outside of official missions. The first is chemistry, an involved art that one would be surprised to hear that Rien of all people has thrown much of their free time into. They are capable of talking at length about the intricacies of various poisons or solutions and their interactions with the body’s internal workings.
Their second interest is much more gruesome, and their first feeds into it readily: battle. Rien takes great pleasure in battle, specifically the drawn out process of ending a life. A process he has perfected through his study of toxins and poisons, allowing him to play with his quarry as he sees fit. Physical torture is not Rien’s singular pleasure, psychological factors in as well. There is little more entertaining than giving someone a false sense of hope they might escape before ending their life.
This is what has driven Rien to seek out a position in the Hunter Corps, free reign to track down and end the lives of deserters or threats to the village at large. After all, if he is sent to deal with someone odds are that higher ups don’t care how their life is ended, so long as they are no longer a threat to Kirigakure. And Rien stretches that liberty to its very limit for their own entertainment.
Much like his interests, Rien’s feelings towards others can be changed quickly as well. Their loyalties are more solid, serving Kirigakure fully for the freedom with which he is allowed to work, however his interpersonal relationships are much more mercurial. If someone falls out of his favor, appears weak too often, or simply annoys Rien too much he is likely to leave them behind without a second thought. When their trust is truly earned, usually through a feat of great power or by proving they care for him, Rien is a fierce and steadfast ally.
Despite the act of being an airhead, Rien likes to lull those into a sense of complacency with his demeanor, causing him to always display a friendly or cheery demeanor. For all intents and purposes, they appear as an individual with a bright smile perpetually painting their face, rather than a malicious killer, leading others to feel at ease around him when they shouldn’t. While he is almost always bright and bubbly outwardly, this almost certainly means he is hiding his other emotions with expert finesse.
Those who have experience with him, or with people who hide their true feelings behind sweet words and saccharine smiles, will notice the slight difference in his features when emotion takes them. When angry, their smiles take on a sharp edge, showing more teeth than necessary. When saddened, though this rarely happens, they waver ever so slightly at the edges. When taken by a bloodlust, their smile and eyes become more manic than joyful, giving a glimpse at the dangers behind the careful facade.
To go along with the air of amiability he carries, Rien is also overly affectionate with others. He gives hugs, cuddles, kisses on the cheek and other displays of physical affection freely to those who are open to receiving them, and even to those who aren’t. This extends not only to people they know, but strangers and even those he is antagonistic towards or are antagonistic towards him. Rien knows few boundaries and will often invade personal spaces without a care. He also knows full well this is capable of making people uncomfortable, and takes more pleasure in doing so when it does.
Beneath the sugar of the personality they put forth, Rien is a poisonous viper. He is cold, calculating and is capable of manipulating those around him with a practiced ease. One must carry these traits to advance in a world of killers and hunters, though rather than taking them on like a weight Rien wears them like a coronet. All in all, Rien is a dangerous person to ever feel comfortable around, even if he isn’t planning on how to remove the skin from your body.

Shin Dokuyoke (真毒病棟, "True Poison Ward")
Through a ritual revolving around inoculating clan members with various poisons and toxins, the Shouki are capable of creating soldiers with an immunity to said poisons and contaminants. The ritual introduces a mass of harmful substances to one's system, increasing one's ability to create antibodies to combat these threats exponentially, however these threats are not destroyed but rendered harmless to the Shouki as they are exposed to it. This allows them to utilize poisons and toxins introduced to their body as weapons in their own right, their blood, mucus and even their sweat becoming a danger to those who dare to fight them.
Rien is nothing if not an exemplary member of his clan, having taken up learning the chemical makeups of various poisons and toxins in order to better understand what was being introduced to his body and how it could be used to affect others. He combined his knowledge of toxicology with his clan's abilities, further introducing poisons, toxins and drugs to his body in order to further permeate his body with them. As such, all of his bodily fluids have become carriers for poison, from his saliva to his tears. He has also learned to utilize Medical Ninjutsu to mix various poisons within his body, creating new and more dangerous poisons on the fly without any need for a lab or equipment.
Orochiryu (大蛇流, "Great Snake Style")
Like the other Shouki, Rien has adopted a style of combat that emphasizes moving like a snake. He has expanded upon the clan's style with his own knowledge of combat, evolving it into something all the more powerful. He does not simply mimic a snake while moving, but embodies one, moving his body as a single muscle in one smooth motion, bending his form in unpredictable and almost unnatural ways that counteract those who attempt to predict one's movements before they are made. The style revolves around sudden strikes with great force, lending to enhanced piercing power and the ability to catch a foe unawares. Through this innovation he is capable of besting his own clanmates when matching this style to theirs, as well as those who attempt to engage him in a melee if they aren't used to such an unpredictable method of fighting.
Enhanced Chakra Control
Rien was blessed with many things, but large chakra reserves was not among them. As such, when he began his training as a medic, he trained to increase his ability to manipulate his chakra in order to make the most of his reserves. While not little, they are average, which can put one at a disadvantage especially in his line of work. His skill in chakra control allows him better command of his Medical Ninjutsu, as well as his Shouki techniques.
Enhanced Speed & Agility
Rien is and has always been fast. In order to make the most of this, he trained relentlessly to hone this for use in combat. He moves gracefully, like a bird in flight or a dancer, with his movements being frighteningly quick with no wasted motions or steps. His speed allows him to thrive in melee combat, making it so that his movements are nigh unreadable to those who do not possess a similar speed, or aren't enhancing themselves through their chakra or other means.
Silent Killing
Training as a hunter-nin lead to Rien's refining of his stealth skills. He had thought that the skills of the ninja were the apex of being unseen and dispatching one's foes swiftly and silently, but he had been wrong. Now as he moves he makes no noise, even the unsheathing of weapons or preparation of other tools are silent. And when paired with his speed, allow him to flit in and out of his opponent's perception like a deadly specter. When in situations where it is difficult to see Rien, he may as well not exist beyond the edge of his blade slicing his victim's throat.
