Liminal spaces were places of great power. Crossroads, temporary, those locations where people come to temporarily to be, but not to stay, never to stay. They were the places that invited the most spirits because they had no permanent occupants, no true and constant purpose. The walls could provide a home for wanderers of any type, allowing the roaming energies and roaming dead to settle between them. 

That was how Taru felt about the place they were staying. This great inn, filled with many people who would leave not too long from now, and again be left hollow. There must be many spirits stirring within, she was sure of it. There would be little opportunity to meet with them again, so she wanted to try to talk with them now and learn their wisdoms. 

That was what she decided to play the Fortune Game. 

At night, she moved quietly out of her room, holding a comb and a small cloth. She walked the halls until she came to a decent crossroads between all of them, a transitory area between different sets of rooms. This was the perfect place to summon a stranger. 

Taru ran her finger along the teeth of a comb, three times, creating an eerie pluck that flowed down the hall. 

"Tsuji-ura, Tsuji-ura, grant me a true response," she chanted softly. 

Would a stranger come? Or would anyone else join her game?

Himishi Haruka

She couldn't sleep soundly, with an enemy shinobi as her bunkmate, the Himishi instead stayed in a light stasis. It was a weird thing but she was certain he felt the same. Sleeping with one eye open seemed to be the first challenge and Haruka was done staying here. She rubbed her eyes before letting out a yawn. She still couldn't believe Jou had also came, a person she had to worry about, not of fear but care. This entire place didn't sit right with Haruka, something felt odd. More so than usual and the Genin was annoyed by it. She couldn't call for Rentaro, he was probably in another building. The girl heard extremely faint prickling coming from... somewhere and the girl's eyes snapped open, the purple Tomekenzangan awakened and spun as she sat up from her bed.

From what she could tell, the Konoha shinobi was still sleeping even when a hushed whisper came outside of the room. Haruka looked at the door and gulped. She stood up and walked over to her door. Her outfits didn't change much. Her nightwear was a thinner, lacier version of her shinobi wear so she had no fear of opening the door enough to slip out, she looked around and her eyes locked onto a rather unkempt girl. Haruka folded her arms in disappointment as she examined this girl for a few minutes.

"You do know people are sleeping, right?" The Himishi spoke, stern yet soft. She was not a fan of antics, worst of all late-night ones, this being a rather unique case due to the oddity of it.

Haruka achieved both the rare dōjutsu and the even rarer Tōzasō state of the eye. Being a direct evolution of Iwakusō, boons of both can be accessed by the Genin. With crystal clarity, the girl is capable of recalling information and memories down to a surreal level. As if she could live in it, it also grants her capabilities to look through memories and implant her own or even reconstruct the other's memory through the use of clan jutsu. It can also gives her great ability of her own intelligence locked behind the eye. From the Tōzasō aspect, Haruka attains a great level of perception both in tacking and reading any given situation, exponentially increasing strategic or investigating abilities. The strongest boon is the ability to track movement from both powerups granted by the past and present eye. Every minute detail is tracked at great speeds for Haruka.

Unnatural Intelligence
Even before the Tomekenzangan, the girl has always had an almost metahuman intelligence, able to decipher a large number of details in seconds and map out events with marks like a video into the event. The Genin is even capable of quick, logical thought, all while maintaining a long term-memory of the details. Boosted by the Dōjutsu's passive effects, the girl's ability to recall and process new information increases exponentially. Every cognitive ability is boosted allowing the girl to process and retain much information new or old. Haruka easily surpasses genius levels thanks to both the great boons of her blood and her eyes.

When she heard a shuffle of movement and then heard the door begin to open, Taru would grab the cloth she had brought with her and put it over her face, hiding her features from the view of the new arrival, just in case it was the mysterious stranger. You weren't supposed to let your spirits see your face because then they might be able to steal it, or your immortal soul. Both of those things would be very bad, you see. 

After a stretch of silence, the other party spoke and Taru sighed with disappointment. That wasn't a spirit at all! It was a stranger, but not one of the supernatural sort. Just another participant in the Chuunin Exams who had peeked her head out. Taru took the cloth from her face and quickly turned her sour mood around. 

"That's why this is the best hour to perform this ritual. When the living energy has all settled to a rest and the spirits can move more freely without intervention while still having an energy source," she explained, as if that should make perfect sense to anyone but herself.

"I'm trying to call upon a guiding spirit to tell my fortune. Would you like to have yours told, too?" Bystanders and other participants were allowed in this game, so it wasn't as solitary as some other spirit games.

Himishi Haruka

Haruka made a cant of her head as she listened to the girl before her explain herself. She did, well, her explanation was odd. Who had more energy? Was she implying she believed in spirits... Mystical beings made of chakra existed, it's highly possible this was the case. However, Haruka had a suspicion that this girl wasn't all there. She did explain what she was trying to do and the Himishi pondered on it. Her violet orbs darting back and forth while she was in thought. You know, maybe if I play along, I could persuade this girl to let me read her memories, seeing is better than just hearing about it...

Haruka closed her eyes, deactivating her Dōjutsu to reveal the baby blue irises underneath. The Himishi opened her eyes to look at the girl with a soft smile before nodding her head. "I would love to hear my fortune, let's do it!" She joyously stated in a hushed voice. She walked up to the girl before speaking again. "Okay, what do we do?" Haruka asked as she wandered up to the girl. She didn't mean I'll harm and couldn't do it unless this unkempt girl was willing.

There was absolutely no way she could get injured enough nor restrained enough to let the Iwa shinobi peer into her memories. For now, she had to wait it out and play her part to ask.

[attr="class","skullbody"]Ichi found himself deeply disturbed by something, but he found it hard for himself to place. Restless was the sleep that came in the night surrounded by the sounds different from the waving golden ocean meadows that grew around his home. The sound that had peacefully drifted him to sleep so many times, it was not here and it certainly was not in a space where he could enjoyu himself so readily. Taking his pipe and enough to smoke for a few hours he would leave his room in a short quiet manner. He needed his nerves to calm back down and this was the simplest way to do it.

Leaving his room would only serve to make him aware of a couple of girls in the hall, close enough even if he couldn't hear them fully the higher pitch was distinct enough. His sensory would intrigue him though, as he felt a presence similar to the girl from earlier today and another that he did not recognize from teh country that his had few good dealings with these days. Looking between the two unhappily at first from the distance and dark he would spark a light and light his pipe. Not caring in the dark about the smell or the smoke. He wouldn't make a mess or a fire anyways.

"Evening Ladies, would you mind if I joined into whatever is going on?" Ichi would ask quietly as the smell of incense burning would fill the air. A more pleasent scent like a garden in the woods filling the air. Sitting crosslegged, the boy would inhale from the long wooden pipe and exhale upwards in a very slow stream letting the smoke out in an almost impossibly slow rate.

Ichi's SA's and Techniques in Use:[break][break]

『Harvest Moon's Child』
Ichi was born to the Nakahara clan on the night of a Harvest Moon. Born with quite the green thumb he was assumed to be an inheritor of the clan's natural talents with plants. The roots ran deeper, however, as Ichi was born with a Kekkai Genkai, being a rare natural occurance of Wood Release outside of the Senju. In learning of this he has trained his kekkai to the best of his abilities. He is no master, seeing as he has no reference of Mokuton, but he has found a way to bring out techniques along side his own talents in a cohesive manner.

『Weaver of Wood』
Ichi was born with Mokuton, but he was not graced with the same level of chakra as the Senju would be in his situation. Being roughly average for an individual, Ichi instead focused on the skills his birth clan preferred. Practicing his medical skills, he has gained a higher quality of Chakra Control. Ichi is much less likely to leak chakra than the average shinobi because of this.

A second interloper! Another of her fellow genin joined from the shadows, this one lighting a pipe. She thought she had seen him this morning while going around town, actually. Maybe the second of seeing him had been a portent for this evening! But she hadn't seen Haruka, so maybe not. These kinds of things were sometimes hard to parse. What were and weren't portents, etc. 

Haruka had agreed to join and this other shinobi had asked to join the process as well. Luckily, she needed to explain the rules to Haruka anyways, so she could explain to the new group member as well. 

"This is a spirit game called Tsuji-ura," she informed her audience, holding her arms out. "At crossroads like this, you can find wandering spirits who have knowledge outside of this place and time. In order to call upon them, you must perform a few steps." 

She held up the comb in her hand. 

"First, you strum this comb. Naturally, it calls upon the dead and opens a gateway." The kanji for comb were 'ku' and 'shi,' for suffering and death. As such, them and their sounds were often associated with spirits and giving them as gifts was a bad omen. 

"Then you say: Tsuji-ura, Tsuji-ura, grant me a true response," she continued.

"This will call the knowledgeable spirit in particular through the gateway. You wait for a stranger to arrive. When one begins to approach, you place a covering of some kind over your face. So you'll need something like this cloth, or the hood of a robe, or a hat," she said. 

"When the stranger settles to stand in front of you, we can each take a turn asking them our fortune. But we can't remove the face covering until they leave again."

Haruka had focused so unbelievably hard on the girl before her, the masculine voice from behind her freaked her, making her gasp lightly as she whipped her body towards the source. She calmed down that she didn’t see a weapon but she was still on edge, that Kusagakure headband around his neck didn’t help her uneasiness, but she nodded regardless. If he wanted to join, she couldn’t exactly say no, for all she knew, this guy may genuinely be interested; nor was she in charge of this activity, unkempt girl was. Haruka was only pertaining due to her desire for possibly easy knowledge.

"Sure.” Haruka stated as her attention turned to the other girl who started talking. She called this fortune game, well, this ‘spirit’ game Tsuji-Ura. The Himishi narrowed her eyes, already, she was questioning how a fortune game meant a spirit game. She allowed the other Genin to continue in her explanation, a decision Haruka would come to regret as she saw that the words she said only became more and more confusing. When the other girl had finished, a look of incomprehensible confusion was written across the Himishi’s face.

"Um, I think I can use this sash as a cover.” The girl turned her gaze to the male companion who joined. "I’m not sharing so hope you have one.”
