It was traumatizing to say the least. Watching Kashiwa die before them, sacrifice himself after saying everyone would get out alive. Haruka closed her eyes, I should have forfeit, everyone would have gotten out alive... Damn it Ichi, why did you stop me? Quiet contemplation came from the girl. It pained her looking at the past even though it was exactly what she preached not to do. Tears welled up and dampened the ground it landed on. Haruka tried desperately to look for a lesson that actually meant something. All she came to was her realization a disadvantage was coming and she failed to act on it. The girl was in tears as she opened her eyes, she told Jou to meet her here to do some training, both physically and of their eyes. There was a consolation to be expected given they were both there to see what happened. They were on the same team.

Haruka took out her notebook and pen down the only inference she could infer from such a horrid test. Act on your thoughts, commit to your actions. Her notebook looked like a book full of quotes and insightful lines. She closed the notebook and tucked it away before standing up. The girl looked around, trying to find out where her cousin was, she hoped she didn't give him the wrong time. The girl also hoped he was okay, there was that fact it hurt him badly, she didn't know the degree but she knew that Jou, he wasn't going to take it easy. Especially since he mentioned Kashiwa was his roommate.

Haruka waited around before looking up at the sky. "Time goes on, with or without you." It was an odd thing for her, Haruka felt helpless, she was a slave to time and she knew that was why she could come and go. It hurt, not being able to give herself proper time to reflect, it also gave her a sense of haste. Everyone's time runs out, at any moment, someone's light could go out. The Himishi constantly asked herself, will she care this time?

Why...? This was only the first round...so why did things have to end so terribly? Why couldn't they have at least stayed with Kashiwa...as he took his last breath? To die alone like that...it was something Jou couldn't even fathom. Jou hated this...and he hates himself for this. Ever since that day, Jou could barely sleep. Every night, he found himself staring over at that empty bed, hoping to just see his roommate lying there peacefully. Prior to that round, Jou was not mean to his roommate, he was distant, however...all because of the village he comes from. Jou was hesitant to make actual small talk with him...yet when that round came around, Kashiwa was quick to treat everyone like a teammate, regardless of village.

Kashiwa was a natural-born leader, and friend...unlike Jou....Jou was a selfish coward.

Jou wished it was himself that died...This wasn't the only time someone Jou treated poorly sacrificed themselves for him...

After a long time, Jou was reminded of his late sister again. He didn't need his doujutsu to recall the hatred he expressed towards her face, the first time he showed genuine anger....mere moments before her death. The poor Himishi was driven to tears once more, hugging his pillow tightly to himself, trying to hold it all in. He needed to get ready to meet Haruka for some training...She mustn't see him like this...

Eventually, Jou was able to get himself together and made his way to the training grounds...but he was a little late which is unusual for him. Though he didn't look bothered by that...mostly because his mind was still on other things. He approached Haruka, his expression somber. He could not even make eye contact with his kin. "Haruka-senpai..." the teen uttered, not even able to give a proper introduction.

The girl slightly frowned when she couldn't find Jou, taking out her pen and notebook again, Activating her Tomekenzangan as she looked at the pages, recalling every memory the lines associated with. But still, she continued to map out the past events and how she could, perhaps, be ready for another painful future, hopefully, it turning in her favor. By technicality, the first round ended in her favor of not dying, but she would have preferred to have everyone live. The four vials clue should've been enough for her to quit. yet, she was forced to continue. The exact chance it'd hurt them again was unfortunately abysmally low but she could use this... experience to better learn. Mapping out what she needed to improve on, it came to assertiveness and acting on what she sees rather than calling every detail.

It was a complete 180 on her personality but it needed to be done. She was just about to put her notebook and pen back away before she heard her name. It was a somber tone but it really gave her an idea who it was. But something seemed off, well, it was of no surprise given what happened recently. The Himishi looked up to see Jou before quickly getting to her feet, hugging the boy. "Jou... I'm so glad you are okay... but I'm sorry... for you especially." The Himishi stated as she held tighter onto Jou, she had no clue what he was feeling. She wanted to know so she could help him the best possible way. However, she doubted even he would let her see his memories.

"I'd ask if you are ready to continue where we left off but right now, I think you need this." Haruka stated, keeping herself from crying as she held onto her cousin.

Jou just stood there and continued to glance away from Haruka. Guilt and grief still riddled the poor boy. Like Haruka, Jou also felt that he should've been the one to quit during round one. Though Jou felt that he was contributing the least out of the group, so he felt especially responsible for Kashiwa's death. A part of him thought that Haruka might be thinking this as well and that she's probably disappointed in him. He was expecting her to scold him, waiting for it to happen any moment. Haruka clearly has no problem with being blunt and speaking her mind, so Jou was bracing himself for the worse...

But...instead he found himself in the middle of an embrace.

Jou looked up, eyes widened a bit as he felt Haruka's arms wrapped tightly around him. For a moment, Jou was in disbelief, believing that he didn't deserve this at all. The moment Haruka apologized, a hint of tears started to form in Jou's eyes, but not enough to fall down his face. Jou felt that Haruka rarely showed this side of herself to others. He couldn't help but smile warmly before closing his eyes, hugging her in return. "Thank you Haruka-senpai..." he said before letting go to press his forehead against her own caringly. "I really did need this." Despite her tough exterior, Jou could see how selfless and understanding Haruka can be, and he truly respected her for this.

If any of Haruka's tears managed to run down her face, Jou would use his thumb to gently wipe them away, sort of reminiscent of their first encounter. "We can start training whenever you're ready." he added with a small nod.

She liked the feeling knowing she was helping but with his expression of disbelief when she hugged her kin was something that made Haruka considered not all that helpful. It took a bit of her hugging him to finally be reciprocated. She shed some tears, she knew the events of the first round were devastating. But, she couldn't imagine the mental agony on Jou. He backed away from the embrace and saw that he put his head against hers. She was extremely thankful that he assured her that he needed the hug. Jou wiped away her tears and stated that he was ready whenever she was.

Haruka made a sigh as she recollected herself. Activating her Tomekenzangan as she tried to recall where they last left off, the girl nodded as she opened her eyes. "We created your base and went over the aspects of time from clan teaching. Now, we go over how to progress. As you stand, from your knowledge, what are the Tomekenzangan's evolutionary steps and how do you get to the next?" Haruka wanted to know his thoughts, guide him as she doesn't know the answer, well she did, but she couldn't attain it herself yet.

In order to properly teach him, she needed to know everything he does, and since she doesn't feel like digging through his memories, they needed to do everything this way.

As time progresses, she will have more of a boost, albeit half of that of a dedicated boon in either area.

Jou was very glad and thankful to have a cousin like Haruka. She was the only other Himishi who appears to believe in him. Jou was confident in her judgments, believing that she'd never steer him wrong. Jou gave a small nod as he saw Haruka's eyes shift into the Tomokenzangan and in return he did the same, his crimson eyes closing then reopening into their clan's doujutsu, all with that gentle smile still on his face.

Jou was prepared to focus now, his expression being enough proof of that now. The two only touched the surface on the subject of their clan and how they view the aspects of time in their previous training session. Jou was ready to learn more, gain a better understanding of what it means to be a Himishi.

"Hmm..." Jou placed a hand on his chin and looked down while he pondered the question presented to him. The evolutionary steps of the Tomokenzangan. Even before meeting Haruka, Jou had studied a bit about their doujutsu in his pursuit for knowledge. "Well first is the Iwakuso stage which is brought about when a Himishi is under great duress...specifically when they are...in a near-death experience." As Jou said this, it almost seemed like his words were drifting off as if he were distracted. He was reminded of his own near-death experience...but what upset him more were the events that led up to it...with what happened to his sister.

Jou let out a soft sigh, trying to not get caught up in those memories again. "A-Anyway...The Iwakuso stage is what activates our ability to delve through and alter memories...peer into the past so to speak." he claimed as he looked up at Haruka. "The next stage is the Present Aspect, Tozaso." As he said this, Jou found himself starting to pace back and forth, his hand still on his chin as he started to go a little deeper in explaining this. "It's rarer than the first stage, and can be formed by a Himishi's better understanding of the present...but maybe that can vary..." Jou claimed...It was essentially how his formed at least. "With it, we can analyze and track things on a level normal eyes cannot." Jou nodded.

"Then we have the final stage. The Sh-Shoraiso...I think." Now this is where Jou's knowledge ends. He stopped pacing, and closed his eyes as he tried hard to recall that doujutsu. "The Future Aspect....It's br-brought about by...err...It can...u-umm...hmmm..." Jou shook his head a bit and looked over at Haruka, opening his eyes with a bit of a frown. "I-I'm sorry Haruka-senpai, but I don't know much about that one." The future was something Jou rarely looked into...as he still focused on his past. He did gain a better understanding of what it means to live in the present...but the past still has its hooks on him whether he fully realizes this or not...especially when related to his sister. "Isn't that stage j-just a rumor anyway?"

Haruka smiled as he began explaining Iwakusō and it's trigger. The first step of activating the Tomekenzangan, the damn hardest awakening state with the slimmest chance to survive.The Kunoichi nodded along assuringly as he fed her the correct steps and explanation of the Past aspect. Up next was Tozasō, the Present. Haruka listened to how it formed and more or less that was the generally correct path. It was true that it let them see what normal eyes could not but it was more so the perception on steroids to fine details that would go unnoticed. She kept her appearance as she nodded again... then he brought up Shōraisō, the Future aspect. He asked for help in explaining it and how it's brought about and Haruka made a cant of her head as the boy questioned if it was just a rumor.

The Himishi shook her head in denial as she held up three fingers. "No. It is very much real, but it is so rare that only 3 people in our known history had or have it. Our current clan head Himishi Raisuke, his predecessor Himishi Daichi and the clan's founding father, Himishi Yorinaga. Unlocking Shōraisō is as uncertain as you have asked me. From what I understand, you have this past event that is not in your favor. You apply that past knowledge to ensure that when a similar event comes again, you can act on that past knowledge to change things so you have that favorable outcome... Unfortunately, it is very much an epiphany moment and you can't force it. But that's just a general idea to get to it. Will we ever face those moments in our lives, it is very rare we will and if we do, the future is uncertain to the point you can't plan from it. I literally cannot express enough how hard nor how rare it is. It's important to have an idea how to get there just as much as it is to realize that neither of us will attain it in the foreseeable future. But, we are at the Present aspect this young, so who really knows."

Haruka rested her knuckle against her hip. "Now that we have addressed that, I want to ask you, what does it mean to be a Himishi, not blood, not genetics, but our philosophy. What do you think it means to be a Himishi? Break down everything we talked about, what does it all mean. And why are those ideals so important?" The Kunoichi looked at him as her Tomekenzangan continued to slowly spiral. She hoped that the details of the eye's current aspect could lead him to the right direction.

Jou patiently listened as Haruka addressed his skepticism over the third aspect of their doujutsu. Jou nodded as those three important Himishi were brought up. Jou knows all about them, at least about their known history. He had heard stories about the three of them possessing the Future Aspect...but Jou still questioned its existence. He believed those to just be rumors that were formed because of how strong those three are. Haruka appears to firmly believe in this and Jou has always seen her as someone who would certainly question things that seem impossible, so the fact that she didn't question this was making Jou lean a bit more on this being true while he continued to listen. Still, she didn't seem to exactly understand it or how it's truly formed either, just theories that have gotten Jou to start thinking again.

"Huh..." Jou rested his hand under his chin again as he pondered this. "A past event..." he muttered. There was certainly an event that happened in Jou's past...a tragic one that also gave birth to his Tomokenzangan. It was a point in his life he'd never want to revisit. There were things that could've gone differently...where maybe Keiko could make it out alive. Thinking a little about it now was starting to cloud Jou's thoughts nearly distracting him from the rest of Haruka's explanation. "Y-Yeah...Who knows..." Jou said a bit absentmindedly. "U-Uh, I-I mean right! S-Sorry." He was quick to realize he was being distracted, letting out a small sigh.

She then asked Jou a question...one that he hadn't honestly put real thought in, so it caught him a bit off guard. "U-Umm..." He looked into Haruka's doujutsu with his own, but his wasn't spiraling, however. "T-To be Himishi...w-we..." He shifted his eyes away, a bit of a sign that he was having trouble figuring this out. He started to think hard on this though, trying to use what Haruka had taught him along with the research he did as well on their clan. He then looked back over at Haruka, and for a second, the boy looked surprised. For a second as he looked at Haruka...he imagined his sister, Keiko. His eyes started to spiral a bit as well. Both Keiko and Haruka have similarities...which is probably why Jou was so quick to latch onto Haruka as a mentor.

"We Himishi...seek enlightenment through gaining a better understanding of time. How it affects us, how we affect it. We each learn from our past, t-to gain knowledge that will assist us in the present. As you said before, Haruka-senpai, we apply the knowledge from our past mistakes to change the outcomes of our future." This made Jou think a little more about the Future Aspect...and how there may be some truth to it.

It was nice being a mentor to him, Haruka abhorred the idea of expending unnecessary energy and how the clan worded it, it was a bother. But, when she finally got to it, she felt it is energy well spent. Jou is a remarkable boy, he may be a bit lost and honestly... a bit too soft and lets himself get pushed around a lot, but, this is where she comes in. She'll defend him with her life and she will train him as long as possible, it was a perfect balance. Haruka nodded her head, she liked what she was hearing. Haruka smiled and nodded at Jou's answer. "That is perfect, the way I see it, and this is just me. I think the Himishi are exactly that, but in a shorter sense, we are the masters and equally the disciples of time. It is our duty to ensure time goes its set course and we dare not interfere with it, as time is equally as forgiving as it is cruel. That's just how I see it with our teachings." Haruka stated before walking closer to her cousin.

"As for our place, I think we have hit on the big ideas of the clan... If there is something you want me to further explore with you, I'll be happy to help you out. If not, we can explore fighting with the flow of time, a much more reflexive state of combat, forewarning, you'll need your eyes." The Kunoichi stated, waiting for Jou to decide, after all, this was more her teaching him than them equally learning. Haruka tightened the weights on her wrists and ankles. She couldn't show people all of her tricks. "What do you feel like doing, Jou? I'm always here for you."

Jou couldn't help but smile a little upon seeing Haruka's own. Not only was Haruka's smile nice, but that hint of approval before she actually spoke was enough to fill the white-haired Himishi with confidence. When Haruka felt proud of him, he felt proud of himself as well. Jou then listened attentively as Haruka explained her views on their clan's philosophy. He was hooked on how Haruka saw it, believing their clan to be the ones in control of time rather than just trying to understand and follow its flow. Jou felt that this made sense. "So in short, we see ourselves as Time Keepers..." Jou pondered that idea a bit before nodding, believing to get the picture.

Jou nodded once more in agreement as Haruka got closer. He also believed that they pretty much dealt with the ideas of the clan. He thought a bit about what else they could explore. There wasn't anything else he could think of. Jou feels like he has a pretty good grasp of the clan's views. Testing his eye's reflexes through combat felt a little more appealing to him at the moment. As Haruka asked once more, her last sentence was enough to take Jou out of his pondering. "O-Oh..." Jou rubbed the back of his head, getting a little flustered as he wasn't expecting that. "I-I know. I'm always here for you too Haruka-senpai." Jou grinned sweetly. Haruka is so dependable in Jou's eyes. He would follow her lead to the ends of the earth. He may not say it...but Jou believes that he and Haruka have a bond that could never be severed....

Starting to focus back on the training, Jou nodded a bit, his expression going from sweet to a little challenging. "But yes..." He then sand into a battle stance and closed his eyes. "Let's move on...to the combat portion." With that, he opened his eyes which had gone from red to purple, the clock-like designs of the Tomokenzangan's Present Aspect spiraling within.

In a nutshell, that was what Haruka was hinting at, them and the rest of the clan were in a sense - timekeepers - guarding the natural flow and ensuring that things progressed in their favor, naturally. Haruka nodded at the boy, it was how she viewed it; maybe other Himishis did too, but she was pretty quiet about her beliefs. Regardless, as she questioned him about what else he wanted to know next, she could still see the grinding of gears in his head. Metaphorically speaking. Her question seemed like there was too much info perhaps. She threw out a follow-up to try and clear his head faster. It did catch him by surprise, seeing him flustered brought a warm smile to her lips as he reciprocated her words.

There was no chance in hell she was ever going to let someone hurt her family, hearing his words brought up a much more protective instinct. She felt their bond solidified and only through death will it break. Familial bonds could only be so strong but one of a mentor, a friend, and a family member, it assured her that nothing can possibly break it. Haruka didn't like throwing the word around but Jou is truly one of her family she cares for and loves. If something ever happened to him, she wouldn't know what to do, and she doesn't know if she'd ever be the same after.

Jou was now quick to a decision, one that literally brought life into his eyes. Haruka grinned watching his determination. She got into a more loosely guarded stance and kept her eyes on him. "In order to fight with time, you may need to learn a few more tricks. As you already know, combat is kind of like a dance." Haruka stated as she blew enough Fūton chakra to more or less hover subtly over the ground. "We have the eyes to see when people push and pull themselves. If we want to disrupt that flow of time, that flow of dance, we do things that would shift what comes to us back. For example..." Haruka only verbally cued it but if Jou was quick enough, he'd block the coming sidekick to his shoulder. She was counting on him to block it. "Stopping it outright is good defense but now you have to start the dance over. Go back in time to start it over again. This allows you AND your opponent to have to think about what exactly went wrong and leaves you to a larger chance of having them do something of similar effect but in a manner you have less chance of blocking. While not everything can be considered as straightforward as that, allow me to show you a more fluid manner." The girl would finish, withdrawing her leg back from the boy, keeping her Tomekenzangan less locked on him but keeping him in her sight.

With a small gesture of her hand, she begot him to start attacking her as he pleased, giving no indication to what she was planning.

The user doesn't seem to be levitating unless under close inspection which they seem to be about 1.5 - 2cm off the ground. Apart from enhancing speed, this technique gives the user the ability to walk on water and evade projectile attacks with ease.

[Himishi Jou]

With Haruka at his side teaching him, Jou felt that he had the confidence to do just about anything. He was more than ready to get the doujutsu training going, his eyes spiraling with anticipation. Jou kept his stance while listening to Haruka's words. He more or less already saw fighting as like dancing...even though Jou was not much of a dancer. Fortunately, he will never find himself in a situation where he would need to dance...at least he hopes.

The moment Haruka started to float a bit off of the ground, Jou reinforced his stance a bit. Although he was listening to Haruka, Jou made sure to keep his guard up no matter what. He needed to make sure that nothing would get past his eyes, be prepared for anything. Then just like that, Haruka was approaching the boy, preparing a sidekick, but Jou was quick to guard by shifting his body, using his arm to guard against the kick. With his eyes, Jou was able to react accordingly, 'change the future' of that incoming attack so to speak. It was not actual time manipulation, but Jou got the picture.

But with that, not only will the opponent use this as an opportunity to see where they might have gone wrong with their attack, but the defender will also look back on this to try and see what their foe might attempt to do differently. It was basically trial and error. "I believe I see what you're saying, Haruka-senpai." Jou claimed before being gestured to attack. Jou sprinted at Haruka, and once he was close enough, he'd jump up and attempt to perform a move similar to a flying axe kick, aiming for the top of Haruka's head! It was dangerous, but much like Haruka, Jou was not expecting this to land. What he was focusing on is how Haruka was going to do...and how he should react accordingly.

Jou claimed he was starting to understand, Haruka wondered how much though. People can claim to understand something, Haruka herself included, but whether they truly know and apply is a separate circumstance. Jou made his move and the girl watched his movements, she analyzed what he was aiming for, and it was much easier to prove her point rather than most other techniques. She waited, seemingly unprepared nonetheless, but that was the point she was using her Fūton jutsu. Right before Jou's foot came down on her, Haruka only moved more under Jou. She gripped his ankle on the downswing and pulled him down faster than he meant to. Haruka pushed his back forward and his leg higher back, limiting his reaction time greatly. "See Jou? I kept your flow going." Haruka stated in a rather innocent tone, she released her grip against his leg and let him deal with it.

The girl circled around Jou as she continued to watch him. The Himishi watched as it seemed like Jou would recover from that. Even if he didn't, Haruka waited for him to pick himself up. The minute he was getting up at a good pace, the girl would bring her hand to his shirt collar, gripping it up to seemingly help him up, only to instantly curve and arch Jou to get up and essentially bend him abnormally backward. She backed up to simply watch him, folding her arms in front of her chest.

"I'm probably sure you thought this is basic, why are we going through this. I ask you, how do you feel about the fact of keeping up trying to follow through with your momentum?" Aporia. In philosophy, a conundrum or state of puzzlement. In rhetoric, it is a declaration of doubt. Haruka is using it to see if Jou was confident in his fighting style, how she was going at it was incredibly subtle and she wasn't completely sure even Jou would pick it up.

Jou was so sure that his kick was going to land. A part of him was even beginning to feel bad for potentially harming Haruka...but that was certainly not going to be the case. The teen's ankle was gripped, catching Jou by surprise as he was quickly pulled down followed by getting his back pushed forward. She proved her point and the moment Haruka let go, Jou fell on his face...which won't be the only time she causes Jou to fall like this.

The teen pushed himself up a bit to look up at Haruka before she started to circle him. "That was...so cool, Haruka-senpai." Jou claimed with a hint of enthusiasm in his tone but was that exactly how he felt deep down? This training wasn't exactly what Jou was imagining it would be, feeling it was a little more on the basic side, yet Jou didn't want to complain. He was more than sure that Haruka knew what she was doing....Still....there was the slightest hint of doubt within Jou...but what was he doubting?

Jou started to completely get up, but once he was, he felt his collar being tugged by Haruka. "H-Huh-Wah!" Jou was being bent back a bit which certainly didn't feel comfortable and the moment she let go, Jou fell on his back, being sent right back to the ground. "Ngh." Jou grunted a little from hitting his head, but it wasn't too bad....what 'hurt' more was the hint of humiliation he was starting to feel. Her next words made it almost feel like she was reading Jou's mind. Was Haruka really this perceptive...or was Jou this predictable? "Oh...I..." Jou started to sit up, rubbing the back of his head. He just sat there though to think about this for a few seconds. Jou never just sat back and properly thought about his faith in his own technique. "Well, I'm pretty fast..." Jou muttered but shook his head a bit. "But...I guess my momentum does need work..."

The Kunoichi felt bad having to go hard, but with such a basic concept that was easily missed, it wouldn't drive the point across as she intended it. It didn't help she was practically curing his enthusiasm. But, at least to her, this was quintessential training for every Himishi, regardless of their walk of life. However, Jou was still learning, he might not know the flow of combat or he does, just not in the mindset of push and pull. She wasn't sure what his true thoughts were, she wasn't a mind reader, she was just painstakingly observant, it was how she got through the academy though. She crouched down to look at him at ground level. "There is absolutely nothing wrong with your skills, you are a great shinobi in combat. This training though shows you no matter how good your momentum is, even the slightest slip up is exploitable, this holds even true with our Tomekenzangan."

Haruka stood up and held her hand out to Jou. "That part is simple in concept but truly is hard to master. I slip up quite often and it's quite confusing how something so basic deals more than extremely dedicated arts but if it works, it works. What else did you have in mind? I know that was a short lesson, if you could it that. I'm grasping at straws as you have really improved for your baseline, Jou!"

Haruka asked mainly for direction, Jou is a remarkable young man with latent talent, she does wonder what holds him back from letting it all go.
