Kasumi had been successful in her first round, even though the boy from the Leaf showed himself as more of an opponent than she would have liked. Now, they were supposed to do round two and Kasumi went against another tricky one. Sheesh.

"Hase Hoshi, right? Let's have a good fight alright? Don't lose your head or nothin'." She said, rolling her shoulders as she stood across the man.

His first round had been mostly dancing, right? Must be some kind of trick to it, though, right?

"Hn. I don't like that annoying tricky stuff though, so just know it won't work on me alright?"

She'd send a flare out of red chakra, enough to be noticeable as she instigated the jutsu she'd thought of herself before the exams. She'd shut her eyes for a few moments, breathing in as she tried to feel what was happening around her.

Kasumi has become known for her strange chakara form. When in a dire situation, she is capable of releasing her chakra, which in turn takes a strange color unlike the normal blue color of chakra, and takes the form of a demonic cat figure. She is then enveloped in a demon shroud.

I will shine

After his previous fight, which he was glad had timed out when it did, Hoshi had retrieved his discarded folding fan. It had a bit more wear and tear than he would have liked, but it was certainly still serviceable.

Standing off with his next opponent, the first thing Hoshi noticed was the weaponry that she carried, a nervous pit immediately forming in his stomach. Asuna had wielded pointy objects as well, but he knew that Kasumi was far more proficient with them than Asuna had been. There seemed to be a trend with these Kirigakure shinobi...

"And you're Momochi Kasumi? Don't worry, we'll give a good show for sure!"

He settled into a graceful stance as he prepared for the fight to officially start, tilting his head in confusion at Kasumi's following statement.

"Tricky stuff? You don't like dancing? That's no way to be~"

No sooner had their verbal interaction concluded before the match started, his opponent immediately doing some sort of technique that sent out what looked to be a rather menacing aura of chakra. Between the chakra and her prominent weaponry, Hoshi began stepping backwards away from his opponent, looking to the crowd and putting on a confident smile.

"Ladies and gentlemen! Here for an encore... Presenting Hase Hoshi!"

He did his best to ensure that his voice carried over to Kasumi, focusing his chakra in an attempt to capture her in his opening genjutsu.

The boy was flamboyant, which was something that made the Demon scowl a bit. They might be from allied nations, but they weren't allies in this fight. As he spoke, something strange happened to her even though she was sure to look away.

So he must have had genjutsu that was sound triggered too. Great.

"I'm not too worried about the show." She said, using the space he'd created to form some hand signs. Despite the spotlight, her eyes would be looking at the darkness around him. She was counting on the space he created to give her the time to do the jutsu. "Let me do you a favor and hide that technique from the world. You really should save it for when you really need it. Kirigakure no jutsu."

The hidden mist technique. Even though the rest of the world was hard to focus on, with that blinding spotlight over the boy from his genjutsu, this should even the playing field for her.

The mist crawled out to cover the surrounding area, hopefully blinding the boy. She could still sense him with her previous jutsu, though, and would try to slowly move around towards his back if he didn't stop her.

Hoshi didn't quite get the reaction he had been hoping for from his opponent this time around. Asuna hadn't seemed impressed by his genjutsu and it appeared as if though Kasumi was the same. As he felt his technique take effect, Hoshi's body stiffened in retaliation to Kasumi's words and quick use of handseals. He fully expected some sort of offensive technique to come shortly after, but the arena was instead filled with thick mist, removing the girl from Hoshi's field of vision but more importantly removing him from the audience's sight!

Panic and frustration immediately clawed its way up the inside of Hoshi's throat, his eyes darting left and right as he tried to figure out where Kasumi was going to attack from. Fighting without an audience was aggravating, but with no immediate threat to his person he hastily took a more conscious effort to steady his mentality, remembering the times where a calm mind led to better results. Hoshi formed a single handseal before he closed his eyes and took a deep breath.

He was stock still as he focused on his other senses, doing his best to try and hear where his opponent was, feel a shift in the air, maybe even catch a scent that was out of place, all while maintaining his composure and fighting off the urge to start swinging around wildly. He built up a steady amount of chakra in his body with his hands locked into a single seal, readying himself to release his energy at the appropriate moment.

Rest and Accent
Despite his fierce personality, Hoshi has learned the value and importance of calming his mind in the midst of combat. Still, he has trouble maintaining that calmness throughout an engagement, but he can still reap its benefits with conscious effort.

If Hoshi can manage to remain completely still for one post and calm his mind, in the following round for ONE rotation Hoshi's fuuton ninjutsu will have greatly increased power.

Kasumi couldn’t be entirely sure what her opponent was doing, but she knew he wasn’t moving. The Mist jutsu had a way with people, she imagined. He was likely listening for any sound that he could hear to figure out where she was as she slowly circled around him. She’d have to attack from the right angle, then.

Luckily, she remembered her own lessons from the day before, and planned to do this smart.

She quietly drew her sword- well, as quietly as she could. She appreciated that the man had made sure to engage the crowd right away because they were invested and making noise that Kasumi planned to capitalize on.

From behind, Kasumi would throw a kunai in front of the boy. It’d clank off of the ground providing the first noise he could hear. If he held on and waited, he might also hear the footsteps coming from behind as Kasumi moved forward to strike with the serrated edge of her bone sword.

As the dancer from Ame focused on inner peace, Hoshi's breathing became slow and steadied, his senses on high alert as he held the same, constant handseal. The audience wasn't nearly as loud as it was before, but they were still certainly making noise. Excited chattering immediately gave way to uneasy mutterings as the fog blocked practically all sight into the arena and cut into the thrill of the show.

As soon as Hoshi heard a clatter of something in front of him, he let out a startled cry, releasing his chakra all at once in a torrent of wind. "Gya!" The blast of wind that spun around him sent the kunai absolutely flying away, the increased power of Hoshi's fuuton ninjutsu launching the ninja tool well across the arena.

Unfortunately, that kunai wasn't Hoshi's opponent, and when the fog retreated a meter or so away from him, he realized the mistake of using his technique far too early. He heard the approaching footsteps thudding behind him less only a moment later, frantically spinning around and blowing heavily out of his mouth with another fuuton ninjutsu. This stream of wind was much stronger than normal as well, and while he would attempt to blindly hit his opponent, his main goal was to jump at the same time to quickly throw himself out of immediate danger.

DESCRIPTION:
This is a very basic defensive technique that allows the user to use Fūton to protect themselves. After preforming the handseals a small gust of wind is created around the user, this gust of wind is only strong enough to fend off attacks made by thrown weapons, such as kunai and shuriken; with the wind pushing it off course enough to deflect it from the user.

It can also be used offensively to stagger an opponent's movement.

Kasumi watched as she charged, the kunai landing as placed and a powerful gust of wind blowing it away well across the arena. She was glad she'd laid the trap. As soon as the boy realized what had happened though, he began turning. Kasumi thought there'd be no way for him to dodge at this range.

In a way, she was right. The serated and vicious edge of her sword dug into something. She couldn't tell if it was his side or his shoulder. The rough blade was bound to leave a nasty and painful wound that might even be amplified by his next move.

The dancer jumped, the torrent of wind blowing him away and staggering Kasumi herself.

She didn't move back, if only for her jagged blade grabbing his flesh and sawing backwards, but it definitely threw her off enough to buy a second of free time for the boy.

"Tch!" She grunted out, shutting her eyes to avoid more genjutsu now that the mist was mostly cleared. She needed to close the distance, so she moved forward again. Her eyes would only be watching the ground to avoid hazards as she planed her sword in the ground and used it to launch herself at the oppoenent she sensed with her chakra. Aiming to plant a kick in his gut, if he took any time to address the painful wound.

DESCRIPTION:

A technique meant for closing the gap, the user will charge forward before jamming one end of their polearm into the ground. They will then push off of the staff to gain some forward momentum, launching themselves a couple of meters into the air before delivering a flying kick aimed at their opponent. This strike propels the user forward incredibly quickly, and can also be used to push themselves up and over obstacles or enemy attacks.

It was Hoshi's instinct to immediately get away from this close ranged attacker, and so the dancer found himself in an astounding amount of pain as he blew himself away from Kasumi, the sudden pulling away resulting in her serrated blade doing significantly more damage to Hoshi's shoulder than if he had moved more carefully.

The Ame genin let out a wail of pain as he was sent away from his opponent, one hand immediately clutching the gushing wound though he was extremely intent on keeping his eyes on his opponent. Another attack like that and he wasn't sure if he'd even survive, much less stay in the fight. There was a scary amount of blood coming from his shoulder wound... well... Hoshi thought there was a lot of blood coming from it. He didn't dare look at it directly because he knew he would faint as soon as he saw it. Instead, with partially teary eyes, Hoshi noted that Kasumi was quickly closing in to attempt another attack, frustratingly keeping her eyes averted.

"You're no fun! That really freakin' hurt... AND! You're not paying attention to me!"

It had worked relatively well in his last fight, so Hoshi decided to give it another spin, quickly reaching down into his pouch and flicking a single explosive tag in the direction that Kasumi was coming from, attempting to throw it as close as he could to her before detonating it. He used the same maneuver as before as well, hopping slightly while blowing a gust of fuuton chakra from his mouth to get more distance between the two of them.

Kasumi's plan to close the distance was an alright one, she thought, but the boy was quick on his feet as he tried to stop her from it. Clearly he wasn't a novice at his style. Kasumi sensed the attack coming before she saw it, eyes looking up in time to spot the explosive tag coming her way.

Crap.

She changed course, trying her best to dodge it as it came closer. She couldn't pull it off completely though, and the tag went off near her.

"Gya! Owww." She was sent in a different direction than her opponent, growling as some debris and flames hit her. The damage wasn't the most serious, but when she looked back up towards where she knew the boy was he might notice that it hurt enough to make her angry.

"Alright. Now you're pissing me off, kid." She'd sheath her sword, happy that the explosion seemed to push her towards the mist so it was easy to avoid looking at him again. Then she put her hands together for another attempt to close the distance.

She'd use the body flicker technique, appearing behind the boy with her back facing him as she quickly moved for her sword. She'd draw it and spin to attack him, again with the serrated edge. A jutsu she'd learned from the Mizukage himself.

DESCRIPTION:

By invigorating one's entire body with chakra, a shinobi can seemingly disappear and reappear in another location faster than most people can see. Often times one's movements are disguised with the use of an extra element, be it a smoke bomb, leaves, water, sand, etc. in order to hide the user's trajectory from those with skilled eyes. Though it mimics teleportation, it is important to remember this jutsu merely boosts the agility of its user. As useful as this technique is, it can only be used 4 times in a battle thread, compounding in exertion and difficulty each time. with any more usages beyond that result in muscle tears in the legs from overexertion. The hand seal for this technique must be held until the shinobi reaches their destination, making it impossible to utilize other techniques regardless of any preparation.

Even as Hoshi put some distance between himself and Kasumi with the explosive tag and fuuton ninjutsu, his hand immediately went up to clutch at the burning pain on his shoulder, fighting every urge in his body to turn and look at the nasty wound. When he managed to find his footing, Hoshi found himself struggling to maintain a steady breath, just managing to catch a glimpse of his opponent's absolutely furious expression before she backed off into the mist.

"I'm pissing you off?! Look what you did to my outfiii-"

A quick burst of anger caused him to gesture towards his torn up shoulder despite the fact that Kasumi had already broken line of sight, also forcing him to make the mistake of looking at his own injury. Seeing the torn up cloth and bloody flesh immediately drained the blood from Hoshi's face, a pale expression of shock as any stability left in the young Ame shinobi's body slipped away.

"Ohhh boy... that doesn't look... presentable-"

He managed to stumble a step or two forward as tried to turn his attention back to the fight, but the mental shock and pain had already taken its toll. Darkness filled Hoshi's vision as he fainted, planting face first against the hard, arena ground.

As Kasumi's attack went off, the words of the boy started to seep into her brain. She followed through with the slash, but it hit nothing. The boy had fallen into the ground, the gnarly gash on his side that she left earlier seemingly taking it's entire toll on him the moment he looked at it.

"Aa..." she'd muse, her sensory jutsu ending as she eyed him on the ground, "you fought well. Not many people can dodge me like that. Especially without being able to see."

She'd rest the sord on her shoulder, acutely aware of the fact that he wasn't hearing her praise. It was her first time truly fighting a genjutsu user, and she couldn't help but wonder how it would have went if she hadn't seen his first round.

It was food for thought, at least.

"I think this one is over, proctor."

She'd sheath her sword and offer her assistance in cleaning up the mess if the medics required it. All in all, it was a learning lesson in facing genjutsu, even if she had won.

In the first two rounds of the exam, she had done pretty okay, but in combat is where she really shined. She just hoped that she had shown enough to the judges to earn at least some favor from them.
