Himishi Haruka

Monitors beeped steadily as Haruka stared at the ceiling. The memories of the event kept playing in her head. I don't find... I can't find anything to learn from here besides be stronger. The Himishi folded her arms and closed her eyes as she felt her body feel full. While in her sleep, the wounds from the Explosive tag were easy to mend. The fatigue was a bit harder to mend. To address this issue, not only did Haruka need an IV of fluids, she needed an oxygen mask and a dedicated device to gradually provide her the enzymes to facilitate faster chakra regeneration. It was annoying, she still couldn't believe a fight lasted long enough to tire her out. Well, to be completely fair, she was throwing genjutsu left and ninjutsu right. All while maintaining her Dōjutsu. That was enough chakra taxation to even tire shinobi above her rank.

The slow beeps hastened to match an active heartbeat, beckoning a few nurses to come in and turn off the monitors, disconnecting Haruka from them. She just sat and assisted them when needed, the girl had no hesitance or resistance, she wanted to get out of there as fast as they could send her out. They were quick to escort her to the lobby and let her sit on a chair, giving the official documents of her brief stay and the care that was had.

Folding the papers, Haruka took out her notebook and placed the documents in between the pages. Haruka stood up before she was escorted outside. It was now up to her to get to her room and it was rather later into the afternoon than Haruka had anticipated, it made her wonder how long she was out, the first thing she did was tear up the documents and tossed them into a trash bin before she started going off for a place to sit by one of Kagamino no Shi's many lakes.

WHIMS OF FATE After such an intense day full of emotions, Shigure needed some rest and some nice food to take care of his stress levels. His mind was still processing everything that happen, his fight included. Eating helped him focus, helped think, and also helped him cope. He had grabbed a sizeable portion of shrimp tempura, enough to feed a small group of people, but he could eat a hell lot, especially when under such emotional duress. He was also looking for somewhere peaceful where he could sit for some time while eating, and he decided to go to a nearby lake, one of the many in the capital of the Land of Waters. To his surprise, he saw one acquaintance there. Ironically, that person was exactly the person he fought not too long ago. Shigure paused there, feeling his body tensing up in anticipation, a tad bit bewildered by the coincidence of this encounter. A deep sigh and a shake of head followed. "It's fine..." he repeated to himself. In long strides, the Hyuuga approached the Rock shinobi, a serious look in his face, but not an unfriendly one. As he got close to her, a formal bow with his head, polite but not excessively so. "Haruka-san, funny we should meet here, things considered." he said, cracking a somewhat kind smile on his face, as he shifted his gaze to the lake. No trace of superiority or pride came from him, despite the outcome of their bout. "Would you like some shrimp tempura? They are quite good." he said, as he turned back to her. If she would take it, his smile would widen, otherwise, he would just return his arm and hold the container closer to himself, grabbing one of them and devouring it in one single bite. "So what if it seems hopeless? If it were me, I still wouldn't give up. Embrace your dreams. And, whatever happens, protect your honour as a Shinobi, for the price of freedom is steep." Himishi Haruka

The Genin never really took the time to explore Kagamino, besides the slowly rising mist, the village was beautiful. The extreme number of lakes within the village verified the fact many locals apparently call this place the Mirror Field. It was apt, not only cause the number of reflective lakes, but looking around, the clothing people wore mostly mirrored each other. Haruka took out her pen and notebook, rather than jotting down notes, the teen started drawing, but more so sketching. She wasn't stationary yet, she only had enough time to make small sketches with little to no detail designs. They weren't intrinsic but observations of little designs she had seen on clothing or buildings that caught her attention. The number of designs involving fish were in great abundance, which wasn't at all surprising. What was surprising was the fact those that had more detail in their designs were those revolving around fish. More complex symbols, depictions of other animals, mythical or otherwise, were of low quality.

She finally found a place near a lake to sit and she made herself rather comfortable. Her pen started moving furiously as she let her mind wander. The quick sketches soon found themselves with increasing detail, sure the time making each one lengthened but that was the balancing factor. The mindless drawing was paused by the mention of her name. The girl turned to face the source and it was the guy she lost a fight to, the very fight she had today. Shigure was his name. The girl gave a silent nod as she returned to the latest drawing she was on, it made her feel empty to the pit of her stomach. It was a near-perfect reflection of someone she hurt beyond words. She was staring at the face of Jou and never before has she closed the book so fast. She shook her head before looking at the source of the voice earlier.

It was... odd. Never has she casually sat next to someone she fought against. But nonetheless, they were here now and it'd be more awkward to get up and leave. The Himishi autonomously gave the small smile she gave everyone but it didn't last long as she first glanced away, only to look back as he outstretched his arm. He asked if she want some Shrimp Tempura and the girl glanced at the offering. "Uh... Thank you." She said nothing else as she took one and slowly ate at it. Almost as if she was savoring it. She had it before but she wasn't curious of it. More, she just wasn't that hungry after such a loss. Yet here she was, quite literally dining with the enemy. Haruka did not feel a need to address the white elephant. Instead, she had something else on her mind.

"Hey Shigure... have you ever heard of the phrase that details what you see when you look at your own reflection, be it a mirror or water?... I want to ask you... what do you see?"

Since she didn't seem too bothered by his presence, he sit on the same bench she was sitting at, but with some distance in between them, were he carefully placed the box of shrimp tempura he had bought. Food helped him cope in many ways, and right now, his mind was still trying to process what had just happened with one of his close friends, the young deceased Nara Yoru. Shigure looked at the horizon, saddened eyes, but a subtle smile on his face. A weird contrast that's for sure. He grabbed a couple shrimps and ate them in a single bite, remaining silent until Haruka's voice broke such silence. He glanced over to the girl, asking him a rather deep, philosophical question. He pondered about it for a second, gazing away from her and staring at the water, thumb and index massaging his chin. After about fifteen seconds, he looked at her again, his smile had faded away and his eyes watered a bit. "I see a broken man, covered in the blood of his loved ones he failed to protect." his voice was shaky, but he didn't cry. "And still... Somehow, that broken man managed to put his pieces back together and carry on... Trying to believe that the lives sacrificed so that he could carry on were not in vain..." he sighed, lowering his head and sobbing for a short moment before putting himself back together. Without looking at the girl, he asked her the same question. "What about you, Haruka-san? What do you see?" he asked. "So what if it seems hopeless? If it were me, I still wouldn't give up. The girl focused on the water, looking at it's reflection, thinking to herself deeply. She took another rather cautious bite of the shrimp as she tried encapsulating every sense into a memory. After all, this is how memories are formed and recorded, being hyperaware of how they are formed doesn't inhibit what they are. Haruka listened carefully to his words, she didn't care about the words, she cared about his interpretation. In due time, the Himishi got what she wanted and what she wanted was clearly eating at Shigure. Haruka nodded her head, she understood the sentiment, she was not there yet but in some ways, she could relate. Thanks to reading memories, she could easily learn the feeling and empathize with Shigure right now if she wanted. But, for now, she can only sympathize with him.

"I... I see a changeling... something me but not me... a two-faced... thing. For the most part, it is me... but, I don't see me. Whatever it is, it's darker than anything I've seen and I don't want to know what it's fully capable of." Haruka trailed off, she caught a glimpse against Jou. It was fast, deadly, and only showed hesitance when Haruka was scared. She never wanted to lose control of that again but she can only hold back the night so long before it breaks free. Darkness lies in everyone's heart, for some, it just manifested darker and faster than others.

"Shigure-san... as long as we're here under a ceasefire tense, what do you mean by 'covered in the blood of his loved ones he failed to protect' and 'Trying to believe that the lives sacrificed so that he could carry on were not in vain,' what's weighing you down, bud?" The Himishi asked but honestly, she didn't expect an answer. If she were in his shoes, she sure as hell wouldn't answer, but still, it was fair to give the benefit of the doubt, right?

SHATTERED HEART Shigure exhaled sharply and lowered his head, closing his eyes for a second. "Darkness... We all have some darkness inside of us, lurking, creeping, trying to find our moment of weakness to get ahold of our heart and control it. I... I'm no stranger to my own darkness... I struggled with it for years, and even today I had to face it again... It is scary. But one thing I learned is that we are stronger than that, if we so choose. We have those two creatures inside of us, one of light and one of darkness, and they are in a constant battle. The winner? Well... That's whoever you choose to feed." he said, his tone was sad and as he said that, his eyes watered, but he took a deep breathe, looked up to the sky and gulped, fighting his own tears and - for now - winning, as they went away without rolling down his cheeks. Then, Haruka asked him what he meant when he explained his own reflection. His white eyes gazed upon Haruka from the corner and he nodded. "On my last Chuunin Exams, before this one... Both my teammates were killed in front of me, trying to protect me because I was too injured to fight. They gave their lives so I could survive. My sensei... Well, he was also my uncle, he was punished by my father, as he blamed him for my weakness, and sent on one dangerous mission after the other, barely any time to rest... And he died for that... Because of my failure... So their blood... Well, it's on me. It's my fault. This destroyed me, and for years, I couldn't even leave my room, haunted by my nightmares." his eyes watered once again, but this time, he couldn't win this battle and a couple tears rolled down his face and he sobbed. "I couldn't understand why me... Why all of them gave their lives so I could live, and I tried to find purpose, a meaning... I found it, eventually, and that helped me mend my shattered heart... I thought I could become strong enough to protect my friends moving forward... Still... I couldn't, right? No matter how much I tried to help Yoru, he still died..." he sobbed again as more tears came down his face. "But I have to carry on... There are important things I need to do... Their sacrifice cannot be in vain..." and when he said that, his tone was more determined. With the back of his hand, he wiped his own tears and frowned his brows. Himishi Haruka

Haruka was chewing on the shrimp at a decently slow pace, however, the pace was slowed even more as Shigure chose to speak. She turned to him, trying to figure out all the lame nuances that came with his words but... they weren't that. They had a deeper meaning and a point even he could relate to. With great care, Haruka quickly compartmentalized the new information into appropriate thought and memory regions. The way he expressed the words was also interesting as if he was holding himself back. This was something Haruka if he had it as hard as her or worse... the Darkness. Fighting and staring back could only help you so long before, like an insidious disease, you turn as black as the thing in it.

The Kunoichi placed a hand over her heart, hoping so much that is not happening to her. She pitched her question to him and got an answer she wasn't expecting, hell just A answer was enough to throw her off. But what came, nothing could really prepare her for. So both his teammates died for him?... That's kinda what happens when you deviate from the mission... and they picked a hell of a time to deviate. Hell, no offense to him, regardless of nationality, the shinobi rulebook dictates continuing the mission and if it's not my time, why should I force it? Haruka didn't quite understand the Leaf and its apparent negligence of the handbook and apparent carelessness regarding the consequences of deviating too much from it. He couldn't understand why him.

Haruka wanted to scream at him, his negligence and his effect on his allies was exactly the reason things seem so against him. But, as he brought up the death of the Nara boy, the Himishi decided to hold her tongue. She didn't mean ill by kicking him on the ground, life was doing that for her but he seemed to still not get it... no matter, time will get to him, everyone reaps what they sow, everyone. Eventually, as his words sank into her and the world around her became clear, Haruka merely turned her head to Shigure.

"This isn't what you want to hear but I'm giving you the perspective of a Himishi, something considered one of the important information in Iwagakure. The reason bad things happen to good people, to your teammates, your sensei, Yoru, you... it's because you are all messing with the natural order. Thinking you are invincible and thus time-tried rules do not apply to you. Time is indiscriminate, it doesn't care who, what, or why, it catches up to everyone and all is reaped when due, you reap what you sow, and sometimes a bad harvest is the only harvest you get. I can only hope you can accomplish your goal be like all of us, time catches up to you." Once her words were out, the girl turned back to the water, she was unable to even see a reflection, let alone her own.

DIFFERENT OPINIONS The Hyuuga grabbed yet another shrimp and ate it; eating helped him cope with any negative feelings that insisted on making its way to his heart. Still, Haruka seemed to be a good listener and she didn't interrupt him in his long speech and explanation, so when she was ready to share her words, he gave her the same courtesy and listened without interrupting her. Her words, however, confused him at first, prompting the Hyuuga to arch one of his brows, trying to understand why she was saying that bad things happened because they were messing with the natural order of things and thinking themselves invincible. That didn't seem like very accurate to him, his friends and his former sensei knew all too well their own limitations, and yet, misery befell upon them. It was not out of arrogance. Ultimately, he didn't see a point in truly discussing that or trying to defend his point of view. He was too mentally exhausted to do that. Still, her words made him remember the moment Yoru detonated that explosive tag at point blank. He could see why Haruka had that impression, and if he was being completely honest, he didn't know what was going through his head when he made such a reckless choice. Still, he couldn't ask him about it now, or ever. Yoru was gone. With a deep sigh, he ate the last shrimp in the box. "I see... Well, thank you for your words, Haruka-san. I hope you accomplish your goals as well. I assume we won't be seeing each other any time soon after the exams, and if we do, it might not be in a favourable setting. But I think you will become a great shinobi." he said as he got up from the bench. Shigure gave her a bittersweet smile and picked up the empty box. "I will leave you be." he added, and if Haruka didn't have anything else to say, the Hyuuga would walk back towards the dormitory. "So what if it seems hopeless? If it were me, I still wouldn't give up. Embrace your dreams. And, whatever happens, protect your honour as a Shinobi, for the price of freedom is steep." Haruka extended her tongue to like the front of her tooth, attention was on him even though physically, it appeared she didn't care. She nodded at his choice of words, however, they drew a weak and rather idealistic doubt, much like Wahei's dream. "Here, we are allies, anywhere else, we are the gravest of enemies. While we both are here, I bid you and truly believe you will become a great shinobi. I hope you achieve your dream and make sure to ground Wahei. His dream he shared with me, it could've been possible years ago, but I fear now he'll get himself killed. Please, help him break through that idealism, and please, help him ground himself and remind him idealistic dreams are near impossible in a realistic world."

The Kunoichi's request, it was wrong of her to ask such a thing and while she did harbor at least a sliver of belief. She doubts that it would be feasible. Staring at the water, the girl saw herself again but this time was different. She saw the clan symbol glowing on her chest and where he eyes were, she saw the Future Aspect of the Tomekenzangan. She was dictating time, trying to alter the future using only past experiences applied to present knowledge.
