The Chuunin Exams were full of surprises and he was present for the part everyone was excited about, it was considered to be the main event. The one-on-one battles were always the one part of the Chuunin Exams most people focused on, with good reason. As expected, he kept a close eye on all of them, they were some good battles, some were regular and some of them were definitely emotional. Rentaro had watched Haruka's fight with Jou, which he already knew from the start it wasn't going to be easy. Not because of the strength they both held, but rather the emotional attachment the two held as family. The next one was against Shigure Hyuga, even though he was a genin, he could tell that Shigure was a strong opponent, if not the strongest in the entirety of the Chuunin Exams. He was able to tell that he was quite experienced, even for the standards of a genin. Naturally, there was no way for Haruka to win with somebody that had much more experience than she did.

Given the circumstances, he decided to check on the girl he was escorting after all the loss might've taken a toll on the pride of the young Himishi. Perhaps the other reason why he went too busy was due to the circumstances of her loss, which was exactly how he lost his fight at the Chuunin Exams many years ago. He ran out of chakra due to his inexperience with the Sharingan, he didn't realize just how much chakra it had drained from.

Rentaro arrived at the dormitory Haruka was staying at and decided to check out on her for a brief moment. Although he was aware they weren't on the best terms, it's not like he cared about that. He assumed she was there, since she had not left it all that much lately, or at least that's what he noticed. Upon arriving in front of the door he knocked on the door a few times. "Yo... Haruka, I'm coming in, if you're getting changed and I see something I wasn't meant to see that's on you for not locking the door." After making his comment and speaking loud enough for her to hear him. He wasn't going to be held responsible if something else was going on, logically it would be her fault for not locking the door beforehand. Rentaro opened the door and stepped into her dormitory.

The world was pretty cruel to the Himishi, it took her down a spiral nothing prepared her for. That in itself was pretty understandable but how it was set up, it didn't feel like a test to match existing Chūnin, it felt like a test against their upper limit. The fact Haruka was still here or rather, still competing, was nothing short of a miracle given all the shit she has had to go through. First watching her supposed teammate "die" before her very eyes, running cross country with an injured medic, and the worst parts, a hollow victory having to fight and beat her cousin. Followed by an equally devastating loss against a really, really lame opponent. A Hyūga who barely even fought and merely egged Haruka on to drain herself of chakra. And the sad part is it truly worked.

She was so worked up over her fight with Jou, that she practically threw caution to the wind, and because of that, the mistake made had an unprecedented cause that was paid rather swiftly and painfully. She still remained in bed, staring at the ceiling, thinking about what could've gone better. It was pointless though, she had already done that, and there was only one lesson to learn from her loss. Expand her repertoire, in very simple terms, be better. It wasn't the first lesson to be so curt and vague, it certainly wouldn't be the last.

A knock came from the door and instinctively, the girl sat up from her bed. The Kunoichi had just woken from a nap she had hoped would let her sleep up to the final day. Yawning and rubbing her eyes, the girl stretched as she slowly woke up before realizing she couldn't stretch completely. Haruka looked down at her nightwear and threw her arms over her chest. Her clothes have been getting tighter recently and she really doesn't like it chose now of all places to get tighter. "Just come in, pervert." Why did he need to elaborate so much? Haruka yawned softly and shook her head. Eyes locked on the door that opened, Haruka watched as Rentaro entered the room.

"My only question is why. Answer how you wish."

It was easy for the Chuunin Exams to take a toll on the participants, the stress, and even the potential loss of their teammates or friends. Rentaro was no idiot, he knew for a fact that having to fight her own cousin would've taken a toll emotionally on her. Nobody would want to fight their own family, even though he could not relate to those circumstances as he didn't have any family left, with his father passing away around a year after he became a Chuunin Exams and his mother passing away before he had memory. He could only imagine the situation and the emotions that could be felt. Something he had learned over the course of his life was that it didn't matter how much preparation somebody claimed to have, one was never truly ready against the cruelty and death of the Shinobi World.

He was allowed to come in and called a pervert by Haruka. It was hard to comprehend why he would be called that, he had no interest in such things, especially from her. Rentaro could tell that she was taking a nap and she had just recently woke up from it. It only made sense, after all, she had passed out from chakra exhaustion so it was a good thing she rested. She didn't have him as bad as he did, if he passed out from chakra exhaustion he would find himself bedridden for at least an entire day, or even two days depending on how much he exerted himself.

"...That's quite a vague you know? Let me see... Why am I here? Well, obviously because I wanted to check on you after your last battle. I know how much of a pain in the ass passing out from chakra exhaustion is, that's how I lost my battle in my Chuunin Exams... The main difference is that after that I spent the entire day and the day after laying down on a bed because I wasn't even able to stand up." If there was an expert on passing out by chakra exhaustion, it was Rentaro, even with his chakra reserves. The first time he used it in a real fight he ended up overusing it, failing to realize just how much chakra is drained from him. At the time he lacked the knowledge and experience with it, but as time passed he learned to gauge the amount of chakra it drained from him and started becoming conservative on his usage.

Rentaro walked further into the room and decided to sit down on the bed Haruka was sleeping on, turning to look at the genin. From what he could tell so far she wasn't exactly in a good mood, in general, and the fact that she just woke up from a nap made it even worst. "You've done well on your own." Considering their last interaction didn't go well, he didn't expect this one to go well either, especially with the added stress from the Chuunin Exams.

He admitted the question was vague, of course it was, he was too upset at him to be specific and guide him to the right subject matter, if he was smart, he could do that on his own. He soon detailed he wanted to check up on her, citing that he also lost his bout in the CEs due to chakra exhaustion. Haruka looked down as she swung her legs over the side of the bed to sit up better. "That's right... you said it takes a massive toll and you were still learning how to use it." She completely forgot that he mentioned once that something similar happened, but even she couldn't perfectly recall every moment, well, not like this. The Himishi was still taken aback it took him so long to recover but more than likely, he wasn't being pumped with artificial chakra.

It made Haruka think, that their similarities were uncanny and their lives were mirrored pasts but they were differences that were key to understanding that they were also worlds apart. He came closer and decide to sit down next to her, thank god she decided to move her legs. The idiot would have pinned her to the bed... a terrible time really. There was one saving grace, he congratulated her on making it this far on her own. The girl didn't notice her expression grew more sour.

"I kinda wish I didn't have to... I have Jou, you, and Yoshiko to thank... despite how much you hurt me... I couldn't have gotten this far without you." Haruka clenched her fist, she hated what she was saying but every word of it was true. "I have no clue what's next."

The question was confusing and vague, almost as if she wanted him to figure out what she exactly was referring to. They were so many things that crossed his mind to the point that it was impossible for him to guess. Rentaro didn't feel like wasting his time playing the guessing game with somebody that could've clearly been more specific from the start. "Yeah... Well, it's not like I had anyone available to teach me. I had to figure out its in and outs on my own, which took some time... The drain I feel if I overuse is a lot worst than chakra exhaustion. I realized over time that not only does it drain a lot of chakra, but if I'm not careful it takes a toll on my body. Add the exhaustion and fatigue of running out of chakra, but add some pain and the inability to walk for at least a day or two." Even then, after being able to walk again, depending on how bad it was he needed help to get around. He essentially became a handicapped idiot for a few days.

Similarities were there, but if he was honest with himself. Rentaro had it a lot worst than Haruka, as the consequences of being careless with his dojutsu would come to bite him in the ass later. Nowadays, he found himself being lazy to use the Sharingan unless it was done for his own convenience or he really needed to use it. Even then, he used it sparingly and was conservative about the way he used his chakra even with his impressive reserves.

A chuckle could be seen coming from Rentaro's face the moment she mentioned that it was thanks to the combined efforts of Jou, Yoshiko, and himself. The sentiment was appreciated, but a part of him believed that he had nothing to do with it. It was all thanks to her own effort, he didn't do anything other than watch and do his part. "Well, I'm not sure how things will go, but I'm confident you'll become a Chuunin. After what you do afterward, it's up to you. I only hope you're prepared for the absolute pain in the ass it is to be a Chuunin. More responsibilities, work, dangerous missions... You're free to pick your path. He said with a serious and well-behaved, before suddenly coming up with a funny idea. Suddenly a devilish grin appeared on his face as he directly looked at Haruka.

"Or if you want... You could be my errand girl, ya' know help around your dear senpai out in the office to ease his workload" The idea was amusing to think of and it was certainly convenient for him, but it was more of a joke than anything else for him. "Just kidding... Your talent and skill are better somewhere else than working as an errand girl for the likes of me. I bet you'll get tired of me really quick as well." Rentaro's expression went back to serious after his comment was made, after all, it would be a complete waste of time for her to work as an errand girl. Even though it would definitely be convenient for him, he wasn't that selfish.

He explained, in his usual tone, that he had no one to train him with the eye. Even if he did, Haruka doubted that he would actually gain any more benefit. If anything, he'd be told to be cautious and inadvertently make the drain damage even worse by trying so hard to suppress it. Eventually, he had realized that it had negative effects on his health, the Kunoichi wanted to tell him it was ludicrous to think he could hold such power for little cost. But, it felt like it was barking at the wrong tree. After all, he did learn, there was literally no point in condemning him for it.

She waited before painfully expressing she couldn't have gotten this far on her own nor if she had a clue what next. A surprising pick me up came from Rentaro stating he believed in her, that she could accomplish it and be free to choose her own path. The Himishi had doubt about what she can do, the next fight will come with an answer to that, or at least she hoped that will come. It wasn't long after that Rentaro made a gag suggestion. That slowly made Haruka glare at him as she turned her head. He tried dismissing it as a joke but her blank stare kept on him.

She waited until he was done speaking about how her skills were better off elsewhere. She lifted her hand and pushed his face away, almost shoving him away. "Of course, pervert... I'm Iwa's greatest detective... I'd probably be some investigator with my skill set." Haruka was slightly smiling, it was a good pick me up, but did he have to be so lewd? She still had to cover her mouth to conceal a yawn. "Thank you, Rentaro."

In lieu of this, she has opted to learn to mitigate the natural excess waste to an exponentially smaller fraction. As years and shifts further increase as time goes on, Haruka has the control of have chakra equal to her peers in the same point, arguably, to an even greater extent.

To hold the power of one of the famed three famed dojutsu was something unique of its own, especially when Iwagakure didn't have access to them. The bad effects only took place if he overused it, but even then he became aware that an Uchiha didn't suffer the same effects as he did. An Uchiha would be able to use the full extent of its potential without being afraid of its drain, which only made him realize how truly problematic that clan is. The process to understand the full extent of the Sharingan's abilities was something that took a whole decade and even then a part of him felt that they were some things he didn't know.

Jokes will be jokes, the idea of having Haruka as an errand girl for him certainly crossed his mind at least a few times. However, he already had a feeling that she was going to hate the idea. Well, his job wasn't the entertaining one out there since it mostly consisted of paperwork, but it was something he had deliberately chosen. Rentaro could sense the blank stare coming from her even before she actually did it, even if he didn't have his other eye uncovered. No, it clearly a joke, but he wasn't going to admit in front of her that the idea had genuinely crossed his mind before, otherwise it would seem like he wasn't joking.

Out of the blue, his face was pushed away by Haruka's hand, almost shoving him away. The reaction was confusing to him since in his mind he thought he wasn't doing anything wrong. That was until something in his mind clicked. "Oi. Don't get the wrong idea, I'm not trying to pick you up. Though... If it was somebody this would totally be their chance. You'll probably make a good investigator with your skills. No problem..." He replied and followed up with a nod, as he placed his hand below his chin with some deep thought. The implication that he was trying to pick her up was certainly wrong. "Bad news for you, I can't see you that way... If I were to think about it, it would be more of something like a little sister? Maybe? Well if that was the case I would say I failed you already." Sometimes it was a good thing that Rentaro didn't have any siblings because a part of him believed he would've been a terrible role model for them. On top of that, he believed he would've failed to do his job already. He doesn't need something like that in his life.

It's been a while since she truly had a feeling of unwinding. With other people, it just felt awkward; yet, this man had a more calming effect despite infuriating her beyond belief. However, in the end, all that really mattered was how time was spent. Now, did Haruka want to get up and kick him for that creepish comment? Yes. Did she? No, there wasn't a reason to do so, his reaction after clicking about her reaction was entertaining enough. He was in a sense, right but in the end, the girl simply folded her arms. "Even then, I still think you'll try again."

She believed that she had Rentaro read like a book as if she was in the background of his life despite time and again, he keeps proving her wrong. She won't ever admit it though. How could she when he was the very person she wouldn't make things easy for, and his words following made the Kunoichi fold her arms, "Keep telling yourself that, pervert, you always betray your own words. Call it precognition." After looking away in frustration, the Himishi covered her mouth again to let out another yawn. "Well, I guess I'm fine, just a bit extra tired. I don't know what you expected, a personal dance, a spar, an interview?"

The girl sighed as her thoughts started making sense. "I'm not upset I lost, I'm upset for the fact he showed the world I have a small pool. But... that pales in comparison, the thought, the feeling of losing the only family member you cared for and trusted. Who'd you do anything and give them the world if you could, and just lose them in the worst possible way... Rentaro... I don't know what to do."

Considering that his last interaction was Haruka was tense and one could even say awkward to the point that they barely even talked. Now it seemed as if such a thing had never happened as the two engaged in banter, the two knew what occurred before, but Rentaro's laid-back personality seemed to find do something positive for once. Other things took place that was arguably more important than what had occurred in the past, for now, he was focused on her and ensuring that she was fine. Not only physically, but mentally as well.

Although she had read his memories once, there was still very little she knew about him. It was a bit funny to think that out of all people she might very well be the person that knew him the best, namely because of the number of times they've interacted and added by the fact that she saw glimpsed his memories beforehand. Even then, the man was full of surprises, after all, looking at the details of such memories was also important. "Sounds like you're talking from experience." He said, an eyebrow briefly raised from the comment about him betraying his own words, yet it seemed like she was talking from experience. "To be tired, of course... Woah, a personal dance? And I'm the one who gets called a pervert." Evidently, Haruka would be tired, so he expected nothing more than that.

"Hm..." Rentaro placed his hand below his chin as he heard her speak about her current thoughts. Family someone from your own family must've been painful and even the things that were said, hurt more than the physical damage done in the fight for sure. He was able to tell as much as that it had to with her cousin, Jou. "I don't think you've lost them, not yet, at least. I don't think that person is somebody you can lose as easily as you believe. At the end of the day, the two of you are family, and the bonds you two hold can't be broken as easily. Admit your mistake to them, ask them to forgive you, and try to make up with them, you two have something special, after all. When you're older and rise through the ranks you'll realize that everyone around you is an idiot that pretends to know what they're doing. I'm in the progress of finding whether my own advice is going to work well for me, we'll see..." He let out a slight chuckle, followed by a laugh as he placed his hand on top of Haruka's head and patted it for the sake of providing her some comfort.

It wasn't often that he said corny things like this, but to a degree it was true. The two were family and had a special bond, he had his doubts that Jou would hate her after this. Rentaro didn't know the young man all that much, but he was sure that he will forgive her eventually.

In a sense, the himishi greatly missed casually yelling at Rentaro, it felt natural to yell at him. She had no reason as to why but honestly, she had the excuse of having a shit time. She couldn't really focus much on what he said, the memory of fighting Jou and recently losing due to her inability to penetrate the Hyūga's defenses. They left a sour taste in her mouth, left her feeling hollow, and left her annoyed. Their exchange continued to ebb and flow to a point you would miss there was tension if you didn't know about it. At her question of what he expected, of course, he expected her to be tired and she was, she still is. So her comment definitely caught him off guard and caused her to chuckle. But even so, she yawned right after.

Despite the light-hearted mood, her semblance of thoughts came together as she started freaking out about Jou and her standing relationship with him. He gave her an answer, one she was not expecting but she listened and thought. While her overall expression lessened to something more somber. The Kunoichi was still able to form a small smile. If they had something special, then there has to be a way to fix it. I can fix this... I will fix this, Jou. She turned slightly to Rentaro who was giving her headpats like she was some kind of pet.

Haruka sighed and hugged Rentaro, instead. "Rentaro... thank you."

Haruka achieved both the rare dōjutsu and the even rarer Tōzasō state of the eye. Being a direct evolution of Iwakusō, boons of both can be accessed by the Genin. With crystal clarity, the girl is capable of recalling information and memories down to a surreal level. As if she could live in it, it also grants her capabilities to look through memories and implant her own or even reconstruct the other's memory through the use of clan jutsu. It can also gives her great ability of her own intelligence locked behind the eye. From the Tōzasō aspect, Haruka attains a great level of perception both in tacking and reading any given situation, exponentially increasing strategic or investigating abilities. The strongest boon is the ability to track movement from both powerups granted by the past and present eye. Every minute detail is tracked at great speeds for Haruka.

Unnatural Intelligence
Even before the Tomekenzangan, the girl has always had an almost metahuman intelligence, able to decipher a large number of details in seconds and map out events with marks like a video into the event. The Genin is even capable of quick, logical thought, all while maintaining a long term-memory of the details. Boosted by the Dōjutsu's passive effects, the girl's ability to recall and process new information increases exponentially. Every cognitive ability is boosted allowing the girl to process and retain much information new or old. Haruka easily surpasses genius levels thanks to both the great boons of her blood and her eyes.

Weighted Training: Reflexive Combat:
After a routine set by Rentaro and further enforced by Haruka, the girl has developed a weaker but enhanced physical trait in two areas, the first being her reflexes to aid in the reactive abilities her Tomekenzangan cues. The second is more of a nimble body to evade larger actions with a nimble intricacy similar to that of a freshly minted acrobatic shinobi. As time progresses, she will have more of a boost, albeit half of that of a dedicated boon in either area.

Enhanced Chakra Control
Years of being a shinobi has taught Haruka she has reserves smaller than that of an average shinobi despite numerous tries to force it to grow. In lieu of this, she has opted to learn to mitigate the natural excess waste to an exponentially smaller fraction. As years and shifts further increase as time goes on, Haruka has the control of have chakra equal to her peers in the same point, arguably, to an even greater extent.

The circumstances that Haruka found herself in weren't the best. With just a glance he was able to tell that her opponent had much more experience and time to refine his skills. Added to the inner turmoil the young female had inside of her due to her fight with her cousin, it was obvious that she was would've lost her focus a little. Shinobi were supposed to not let their emotions get in the way of the mission, but at the end of the day, they were human.

Any tension between the two had seemingly disappeared as if it was never there, to begin with. Rentaro was fortunate enough to meet Jou before their fight and he could tell he was a good person. He expected that he wouldn't be happy about the events that took place but seemed like a passionate person that wouldn't easily come to terms with hating Haruka, not so easy. As long as Haruka apologized and asked for forgiveness, he believed Jou would accept her and the two will be able to reconstruct their relationship. They were family and it would take more than a fight to destroy those bonds. In the long run, this will mean nothing as the Shinobi World had harder challenges they would have to endure.

As he continued patting Haruka's head, he suddenly came to a stop as he felt her wrap her arms around him and hug him. Much to his surprise, he had not expected to get such a gesture from her, but he appreciated it. He wrapped his arms around her and returned the gesture with a smile on his face. "No problem... I'm not really the type of person to say this kind of stuff, but this idiot will always be there for you." Rentaro reassured her, although he personally thought he was awful when saying things like these. He was better suited for logical explanations, as he had a hard a time saying sweet things to others, but he gave it his best.

He stopped petting her head, Haruka was grateful of it but her expression didn't change. When he embraced her in his own hug, Haruka felt a warmth wash over her, she genuinely needed this pick me up after the hell that was these past two fights. The Himishi stayed in the warm embrace as long as she could; pressing her head against him to feel all the more relaxed. Time had a funny way of changing people, for good or bad. It is for the best time went on, as much as the Domino Effect sucks and always leads to branches that can help or harm.

She still wasn't sure if her ordeal with Jou would heal over time nor was she aware of what her future may hold, she wasn't even sure if she'd become a Chūnin but right now, all that mattered now was this moment. But, to be honest, she felt tired still but she had more to say, she might as well get it out in the open.
