"If I did, they’d probably take me off the payroll,” Eiji replied as his eye met Banri’s. He placed his hand on Tora’s head and stroked the spot behind his ears. He looked away towards the bar and watched as the drinks were being made. If Banri was here, security was probably fine. There wasn’t a need for him to overexert himself worrying. So far, everything seemed normal beyond the ever-present chakra of the bijuu, which in and of itself had become a routine familiarity.

He stretched out as the drink was handed to him. He wasn’t sure what it was, some sort of new age fruity rum drink. It tasted very sweet to the tongue, as most of the drinks did around here. He’d learned to like them. When he finished drinking, a little bit of the liquid drooled from his mouth on the bandaged side of his face. He lifted a sleeve and wiped it away, leaving a small stain on the white stripe of the shirt.

"It’ll be good to go back home again,” he said. He let out a sigh and took another drink. The councilman hadn’t exactly just been cashing his absurd number of paid leave days, he’d been visiting medical professionals throughout lands that were friendly with Kusagakure looking for a solution to getting himself unstuck from his grandson. All roads led to nowhere, and most claimed that his grandson’s mind had been destroyed through the process.

"It will.” Banri agreed. He took a sip of his own drink. It was too sweet which was a dangerous quality in a beverage with so much rum. He missed sleeping in his own bed the most. He raised a hand to rub the nape of his neck. "All these hotel mattresses are making me stiff.” [break][break]

He almost joked that he must be getting old but he stopped himself just before and took another sip of rum and pineapple instead. The return to the Village would be bittersweet; of course he’d missed their home but the medic’s colleagues hadn’t given him much hope. Banri was far from giving up; There were still plenty of options he had considered but he wondered if it might be time for Eiji to accept his grandson’s death. It was a terrible accident but wishing for his grandson to return wouldn’t undo what had happened and Banri wouldn’t make that wish even if he could because if his lover had died when he was supposed to they’d never have met. It was time for Eiji to let go of his guilt and live his own life to the fullest. [break][break]

He started walking back towards the little spot they’d claimed, still talking as he swirled the drink in his hand. "When we get home we should stop by that little place with the chanpurū you like so much. What was that restaurant called?”

Yamato arched an eyebrow as Chieko gave him one of her signature devious smiles. He patiently waited for her to present something to him, a small sack-like objected that she deftly tossed up and down, showing off a bit of dexterity gained from her shinobi days. Yamato gingerly took the jianzi from the blacksmith, turning it every which way in his hands, squishing and feeling and getting a better understanding of it as Chieko gave an explanation. Of course, she also planned on selling weaponry, but the idea of selling a more casual item made sense for this particular city.

"Interesting! I see you're you're just as industrious and resourceful as ever. I never thought I'd meet a shinobi would eventually would expand into the toymaking business~"

It was a compliment and joke all rolled into one, paired with Yamato giving the jianzi an experimental toss himself. He also bounced it up onto his elbow, shifting slightly to keep his balance before tossing it onto the back of his ankle, and then finally tossing it back towards Chieko.

"I'm sure you'll do well here, but I'd be interested in seeing if you could also sell those back in Nohara no Kuni? It might make a fine game to add to our festivals."

There was more to improving a nation than military matters, and so even as Yamato practiced espionage here in Hi no Kuni, he was thinking of improving the more lax parts of life in Kusagakure. The young lord gave Chieko one final wave before leaving her to her business, giving one last look over the people on the beach before making his way over to the city proper.

"I'd be honored...thank you Yamato-san I mean...Lord Yamato..."

Chieko would hold a blank expression as it seemed like the idea of making more of these was a good incentive toward building into something else.

As it appeared that the Kusa leader would make his leave, the dark haired female would bow respectfully, waving in his direction as he departed, leaving her to look down at the small sack in her hand with a calm expression. She could make more of these, that wasn't an issue. But it felt like this was indeed the stepping point toward something far different in the scheme of long term business.

Weapons were always a high commodity within the village. If only, due to there always being surrounded by an environment of conflict. It was by chance, the reason why her father did it and why she did it as well. It was also why there were such a hard mindset within some of the clans toward making their own wears also.

But to make something that was less deadly and more...fun driven...it was...as though putting an end to a chapter that had long extended it's period of relevance to the overall story.

Is that what it's coming to? The end of...

It was possible that she was reading into the whole thing, but considering her reputation, it would be a heavy hit for her to give up on weapon making and go into...toys...

Not to mention a waste of her craft...still...if it meant a chance at peace...why would that be such a bad thing?

Cupping her hand beneath her face, the bikini cladded worker would then shrug as she could see a small child coming in the direction of her stall, prompting her to shift over toward her business mode as she'd smile and seem to start bouncing the object once more as to draw their attention.

Moving away from the shore presented a visually different setting for the young Kusa lord, but the atmosphere very much was the same. People leisurely walked the streets as they indulged in an assortment of amenities, though this close to the beach most of those amenities involved alcohol or food. Yamato cheerfully approached the closest open-aired bar and looked over the menu, patiently waiting to be served before making his selection.

A few moments later, Yamato walked away from the bar a few bills lighter and with a coconut in hand. It was a quaint way to consume alcohol but horrendously overpriced. Yamato figured that most things in this town would be well over market value, that was true of most tourist locations. He carefully grabbed the straw in his drink and took a sip of his beverage, barely suppressing a grimace as he forced it down. Yamato typically enjoyed sweet things but this was over the top: overpriced and underwhelming, though he knew that after having enough of them he would no longer think that way. He took a mental note to compare the price to other towns with similar populations, particularly in the tourism industry, to see if he could get a better read of how Rizoto was doing economically. Of course, his survey of the city wouldn't complete unless he sampled a bit of everything, and so Yamato focused his attention on now finding a food stall that caught his eye.

Eiji thought for a moment and could recall the chanpurū dish in his mind's eye, but the details of the restauraunt were blank in his head. He remembered one of the servers that were there, but everything beyond the food and sake beyond that drew no memory.

"Funny, I don't quite remember actually," he said, rubbing the back of his head. He acquired more alchohol from the bartender and shot it down quickly. "That does sound like a good plan though. We'll have to seal our mattress into a scroll next time, eh?"

He was mostly kidding.

"My eye is killing me," he said, pointing to the bandage that wrapped around the blind eye that hadn't ever worked since he'd taken ownership of the body. "I'm probably going to get it removed once we return home... Anyways, we should probably go outside and make sure no one is causing trouble for our young Lord."

He placed an empty glass down and beckoned Banri to follow him outside. He found Yamato's signature and began meandering towards it, though he was in no hurry to get from here to there if someone else approached them.
