CAVE OF BEASTS Kojirou helped Koume and the two would be joining Shigure by the time he was finishing the prayer for the deceased. Once the team was gathered again, Shigure would look at both Kojirou and Koume, with a comforting, yet bittersweet smile on his face. The pink-haired girl said she thought she was ready and Shigure looked her in the eyes, resting his hand gently on her shoulder. "It's okay to feel nervous. Heck... I still get nervous before every mission, I just got used to it, it comes with time." he told her. "Don't be so hard on yourself." and then he turned his face towards Kojirou. "Same goes for you, Kojirou-kun. We are shinobi, and the mission is of great importance, but if I have to abandon the objective to protect my comrades, I will do it without hesitation." he reassured then; Shigure had already lost too many people in his life, he wasn't going to let any harm befall any of them. Taking his hand off Koume's shoulder, he pointed towards the northeast. "There's a deep cave over there. The monster left between fifteen and twenty minutes ago according to the heat markings here." he explained. "I didn't see any slash marks, so I assume their main weapon is their teeth, so be careful of their faces. They also have chakra in them, I can see the traces of chakra heading in that direction, so we are dealing with an enhanced creature." he lifted his index finger. "Which means, don't hold back when fighting them." with that being said, Shigure turned on his heels and started heading towards the cave, making a sign for the two to follow him. Narrowing his eyes, he would scan the interior of the cave, following the tracks until he found the end of the cave, where the creatures were resting. He could finally see what they looked like, and they were definitely unnatural. The Hyuuga frowned his brows and then turned his face towards his group; even though he could see them without doing that, it was still better to have "eye contact" when talking to his teammates. "The cave is deep, so we will have to walk for a bit, but it is a dead end. There are a total of five of them, with one of them being a tad bit bigger than the others, perhaps the alpha of sorts... The creatures are resting at the dead end, so we can corner them. But do be careful, cornered creatures can be dangerous. Their only weapon is their mouth, it's full of sharp teeth and big. They look like a weird fish of sorts." he explained to the best of his capabilities. If the two continued to follow at a good pace, Shigure would enter the cave and once in there, he would at a slower pace, trying not to alert the creatures. "Now, why would they choose this of all places? Is there something I'm missing?" he wondered. Investigation would have to wait until after they took care of the creatures, however. "So what if it seems hopeless? If it were me, I still wouldn't give up. Embrace your dreams. And, whatever happens, protect your honour as a Shinobi, for the price of freedom is steep." Man, Shigure-senpai’s smile looked weird… then again, who would honestly smile over the view of a corpse? It was definitely to cheer the two up, but that was asking a lot from their upper-ranked companion. Still, it spoke volumes. A lot.

"… Mhm,” Kojirou nodded in agreement over Shigure-senpai’s comforting words. In the end, they were watching each other’s backs at all times – quite literally for the bearer of the Byakugan – and while Kojirou knew little of Shigure’s past given their singular time talking about each other, he didn’t know the details… but that didn’t matter right now. What mattered was that they tracked these beasts down and eliminated them.

Kojirou followed up with Shigure immediately after the briefing. Northeast of their position, there was a deep cave – most definitely the lair where the monsters rested. They were described as creatures whose main weapon were their maws, so avoiding their faces was a must. On top of that, these creatures possessed chakra and were likely capable of performing feats beyond primitive lunging and biting, so the swordsman had to be on his feet and give it his all. And that meant making use of some new Lava Release Jutsus…

Thinking about it, yeah, didn’t he know a Lava Release Jutsu that could cover a wide area without endangering his teammates’ safety? Didn’t he… wait… he did! There was that one Jutsu, yeah! Splendid!

And with the number being five of these creatures – which included the big alpha among them, as Shigure-senpai put it – Kojirou began setting up his next moves while they were approaching the cave. He was able to inhibit their movements; shockingly, given his previous words as a ‘close-range’ fighter, Kojirou remembered that he had long-range possibilities. However, while there, they weren’t rich in finishing power, but that was where he had Shigure-senpai and Koume to deal more damage.

But time had run up, and they were inside. The walk wasn’t that long, and they suddenly heard the growling noises of unnatural entities – some resting, others awake and looking around, incapable of noticing the squad that had entered. Kojirou suddenly walked up next to Shigure-senpai, whose Byakugan would clearly notice the rather significant drop in chakra inside of the swordsman. Strange.

Kojirou also… stood right next to Koume at the moment. Huh. Whatever Kojirou was planning, he was ready. He was merely waiting for the mark now.

Shigure’s touch was comforting and offered the girl some reassurance on her safety while also giving her a bit of confidence as well, however it could only do so much for her as her fear was not only on the monsters but the Rokubi as well. The genin inhaled deeply through her nose and exhaled through her mouth, trying to get rid of any nerves that may have lingered. Soft hands clenched tightly, and with Shigure explaining the caves and the monsters in greater detail, Koume would ready herself for combat.

The Hyūga recommended that they don't hold back, so she would take it to heart and nod in agreement.

"Right.” Koume voiced softly before quickly following behind Shigure.

The trio quickly came up upon the entrance of the cave, a foul stench became more and more prominent the closer they got and the further they trekked into the darkness. Koume stuck close to her Hyūga friend, nearly grabbing onto his flak jacket as she followed in his footsteps, visibility would’ve been low as there was only natural light to pave the way into the entrance, outside of that the pinkette had no way of actually seeing anything that wasn’t directly next to her the further they progressed. Luckily Kojirou offered to stand next to her as well as sending a clone to Shigure’s side.

The further they got into the cave, the louder the strange noises grew, until it seemed as if they had stumbled across the source of the strange sounds, or at least near it.

Koume brought her hands together, fiddling with the edge of her jacket as a means of pacifying the immense amount of anxiety she felt. The girl felt her heart rate increase as time seemingly stood still, she felt like a sitting duck waiting for someone or something to pounce. The feeling of being watched only added to the stress.

CREATURE'S NEST He was happy he could bring some comfort to Koume, he remembered back when he was taking on his first few missions, and how scared he was. It was overwhelming indeed, the life of a shinobi was never easy. Still, he didn't know Koume was a Jinchuuriki, so he couldn't truly comprehend the essence of her fear, the fear to cause harm to her friends. It was indeed a terrifying thought. As they continued to walk down the cave, it did get darker. It didn't affect the Byakugan's ability to see, but it would impact his teammates, and he was trying to think of a possible solution to that. "Maybe I can light something up with a Fire Release..." but he didn't have to worry about it, for Kojirou created an Ember Clone which helped light it up a bit. "Good job, Kojirou-kun." Shigure whispered, giving him a thumbs-up. With the clone by his side and Kojirou there with Koume, he felt more at ease; the Genin could help one another, while Shigure would try to take the battle more to himself. The noise from the creatures was getting louder and as they arrived at the dead end, they would be entering a large, circular area. Three of the creatures were laying down, but the alpha and another one were up, and they noticed the trio almost immediately. Without hesitation, Shigure put his hands together and formed a hand seal. "Kage Bunshin no Jutsu!" he exclaimed, creating a single clone of himself. Now they were five, so one of him could fight, and the other one protect. "I will take on these two! Use the opportunity to take down the ones who are vulnerable!" he exclaimed, mentioning the ones who were just getting up and still a bit drowsy. Shigure dashed forward like a blur, the Chuunin was extremely fast, almost to the level of a Jounin in that regard, and he would attack the regular monster near the alpha. His Byakugan locking into the creature's heart, he stopped before it, luring it into attacking him, and as it put its weight on its hind legs to lounge forward, Shigure had already attacked its exposed heart. "Shoutei!" the Hyuuga exclaimed. The creature he hit with a seemingly weak palm strike puked a heavy amount of blood from the destruction of its heart and fell limp to the side, dead. The Alpha roared and attempted to bite Shigure, but the Hyuuga quickly stepped to the side, avoiding its attack, and countering with the same technique. However, the alpha creature moved just enough so that he missed the heart. "Fast." he thought. The creature grunted in pain and looked rather infuriated, but at the very least its attention was focused on Shigure. The Shadow Clone would be there to assist the Genin, ready to intercept attacks aimed at them with Rotation, but mostly, he would trust on his teammates to handle themselves in a fight. "So what if it seems hopeless? If it were me, I still wouldn't give up. Embrace your dreams. And, whatever happens, protect your honour as a Shinobi, for the price of freedom is steep." C-Rank Mission Created a shadow clone to aid the Genin, dashed at full speed and killed one creature with Palm Bottom, dodged the attack of the alpha and countered with Palm Bottom, but missed the heart. [Honō Kojirou]

Okay, that shit was ugly as hell.

Immediately after entering the round cavern, Kojirou spotted the creatures and their forms – glaring at them both from the perspective of his clone as well as his real self, he couldn’t help but raise a brow at the irregularity of their fish-boar anatomy. He had no time to ponder over their appearances, however, for two of them had already spotted the three shinobi who entered.

Shigure-senpai decided to target the two aware boar-fish-creatures, thus leaving the drowsy ones to Kojirou and Koume. This meant that they couldn’t waste any more time, and the real Kojirou leapt into action with an already unsheathed katana. Before one of the creatures could even get up on its feet, it had a sharp blade lunged into its throat – Kojirou wasn’t the most precise stabber, but while the creature could’ve survived the stab here, the way Kojirou swiped the blade out from its throat caused a huge cut to open up. A fountain of blood released from the creature, a clearly fatal wound that allowed it to continue resting… forever.

By that time, one of the two creatures left for him and Koume to deal with had gotten up on its feet faster than the other one. This fish monster attempted to charge straight at Kojirou before – back when he still had his blade embedded in its brethren’s neck – but it was abruptly slapped back by a sudden whirlwind of chakra that took the swordsman by surprise. "Nice…”

Looking at the flinching monster as well as the last one, Kojirou sent a glare towards Koume: "Step back, I’ll trap them!” This plan of his required him to leap forward and arrive at the space between the two creatures, thus leaving himself in quite a pickle – however, with one of the creatures recovering from being flinched, and the other one getting ready to charge, Kojirou managed to finish three handseals and slap the earth underneath him.

Yōton: Kuro Ashikubi Shikakejirai no Jutsu!

A 10-meter in diameter layer of tar emerged from his hands, trapping the two creatures in their steps and causing them to violently grind their feet against the floor to free themselves. With how the tar was made, and the minor amount of chakra it cost, they’d be able to free themselves very soon, but a small distraction could prove handy for Koume to strike…

[Koji leapt in and stabbed one yawny fish monster in the throat (le ded), then leapt in between the two other monsters at his and Koume's area. A layer of sticky tar is spreading out from his position, attempting to keep the two monsters stuck for Koume to bully them.]

As things quickly unfolded Koume found herself surrounded by her friends and a bunch of groggy fish-headed creatures that didn’t look too thrilled at the group’s presence. The bigger one, presumably the alpha, and another one of the creatures were wide awake. However, the other three remained resting up until the fighting started.

Shigure didn’t waste much time as he dropped the secondary fish-boar, attacking its heart? Something that Koume herself couldn’t see. The girl was practically frozen, watching, not in complete fear but more so in awe of those around her. She didn’t know where to fit in, so the girl simply watched until Kojirou himself jumped into action as well.

Koume promised her bijuu that she would handle herself, so that’s what she would do. As Kojirou quickly pounced on one of the sleeping monsters, the other two would’ve already been alert enough to retaliate, so Koume acted quickly. Forming her handseals, the pink haired genin would fill her gullet with suiton before releasing a strong jet of water towards the two monsters, though it wasn’t enough to kill, it’d definitely give Kojirou some room to work with, despite the water that washed across the floor.

At this point, Koume was on autopilot, her body acting on its own as she quickly armed herself with 2 kunai and laced them with some explosive tags, prepared to bring the entire cave down if need be.

Breakdown: The monsters wouldn’t remain asleep as fighting transpired, so Kojirou would’ve leapt in to kill one while the others were awake. Koume pushes them back with water, and prepares her next move.

ALMOST THERE His teammates were also engaging in battle against the other creatures, with Kojirou taking charge. The Honou boy grabbed his Katana and pierced one of the creature's throat with it, making it wheeze in pain and wobble a bit before it fell limp on the ground, dead, painting the ground red with its blood. But the other two weren't willing to go down so easy, and with the noise, they were up and ready to fight. Thinking he was an easy target with the sword stuck inside its brethren, one of the creatures lounged at the boy, trying to bite it, but Koume's precise attack interrupted them. It wasn't a fatal attack, but it did hurt them and gave the two Genin enough time to recompose and get ready to engage. Kojirou dashed to engage once again and put himself in between the two half-stunned creatures. One of them tried to not let such an opportunity go to waste and tried to take down the boy, but before it could hit him, he used his technique to create a layer of tar, trapping the two creatures for a moment. Koume readied her weapons, but the creature opened its mouth, firing a Water Bullet towards Kojirou. At this moment, Shigure's clone leaped in front of him and used the Gentle Fist to split the water bullet in half. "Don't mind me, Koume-chan. I'm just a clone." the shadow clone said, referencing the explosive tags she had prepared. Meanwhile, Shigure was dodging the relentless assault from the alpha, who seemed adamant about ripping his flesh with his teeth. Still, Shigure's reflexes were too sharp for the creature and with every dodge, he would hit the creature with a palm strike, causing more and more internal damage. After a good five hits, the creature seemed to finally feel the pain from the accumulated damage and it halted its movements, falling to the ground and growling in pain as blood came out of its mouth. "It can't move anymore, time to take it out of its misery." the Hyuuga thought to himself as he lounged forward one last time, hitting the creature in its forehead with yet another palm strike. The soft-looking blow was deceiving, for a moment later, blood came out of the creature's ears, eyes and mouth; Shigure had damages its brain, and the alpha was now dead. All that was left was the last two creatures who were quite vulnerable due to their combined effort. "So what if it seems hopeless? If it were me, I still wouldn't give up. Embrace your dreams. And, whatever happens, protect your honour as a Shinobi, for the price of freedom is steep." C-Rank Mission Clone intercepts Water Bullet and asks Koume to not mind him. Some good timing from Koume, there. She managed to push the two fish-boar-beasts down while they were inhibited from galloping around by Kojirou’s tar jutsu. Although, tough as they were, it required harder hits to take them down – Kojirou had his sword on the ready, and Koume equipped a pair of tagged kunai to add firepower in her next move. Perhaps, it’d be best to step back-

Something unforeseeable by a person without any skill in Chakra Sensory, Kojirou did not expect the creature to be capable of performing a Water Release Jutsu on the go – without any handseals, in fact! Not that they even had thumbs and fingers capable of performing handseals like that, but it caught him by surprise. It would’ve been logical to move out of the way, right? Leap to the side to avoid the blast, right?

That would’ve been the most reasonable thing to do. Evade and counterattack. Every cell in his body pushed him towards that goal before he even realized what idea he had gotten-

Shigure-senpai came in clutch, showing him how the Water Release blast was susceptible to being split in half by a single strike from his own Taijutsu. For now, Kojirou decided to keep the tar jutsu going, giving Koume the green lights: "Time to blow them apart!”

The Kojirou clone who was accompanying Shigure-senpai himself appeared to not have been useful at all – Shigure-senpai took down the alpha with ease, mffph. Now the clone had little to do, but it did spot that the two creatures left were having more and more ease moving off of the tar, so without further ado, it leapt towards them. "Koumeeeeeeeeeeeeee, step back a little-!” the clone warned her before hugging one of the creatures, causing a ruckus with volatile, violent thrusts and spins in an attempt to shake the clone off of it.

And then, the real Kojirou leapt out of the tar pool and landed next to Koume before releasing the Ember Clone in what appeared to be a huge pond of fire. The ember-like expansion of the released clone reacted with the tar formed and left the last creatures panicking and unable to charge at him or Koume.

There was a lot going on, and the cave seemed fairly cramped but somehow they all managed to keep their focus on the monsters. With Shigure handling the biggest of the group, Koume kept her eyes on the others that Kojirou had been fighting against. With two kunai held in her right hand, the pink haired girl would wait for her friends to find their way out of the danger zone.

She watched as Kojirou switched places with his clone, and Shigure’s clone informed her that he was, as such, just a clone. Which meant it was time to put her plan into motion. Emerald eyes scanned the cave’s ceiling looking for the most vulnerable parts...how would she know? Well, she didn’t and decided to pick spots just above the tar’d battleground.

"Come on!”

Koume yelled as she threw the kunai up into the air, however they only stuck to the ceiling for a brief while which meant she had to detonate them before they fell off. And so she did, but only after she already turned on her heels and began making a b-line towards the exit. The paperbombs would explode, causing chunks of the cave to come raining down onto the monsters, and eventually more and more boulders fell from various areas. Luckily though by then Koume was already out of the cave and had settled herself.

MISSION ACCOMPLISHED After defending Kojirou from the attack, the Grass Genin was ready to finish them off and told Koume to step back, using his clone to sacrifice itself to take out one of the creatures, also creating a distraction to the other one. Now that the two of them were basically out of the danger zone, Shigure released his Shadow Clone, recovering part of the chakra dedicated to it, and as he did so, he also acquired the knowledge it had, which made him look at a place deeper underground, where a facility seemed to be hidden. The Hyuuga narrowed his eyes and observed it more properly, noticing that it was likely the birthplace of those monsters. "This is beyond the scope of this mission... But I must report it once we are back." he thought to himself. Once they were out of the cave, Shigure would look back at it for a moment and then turn to his team, eyes returning to normal. "All creatures are eliminated. Good job, guys. Both of you did great." he said with a large smile and a enthusiastic thumbs-up. "Let's go back to the Hidden Grass. I will take care of the mission report. On the way back, we should stop at the town and let them know they are safe." he suggested, and then the group would go back to their village, with a quick step at the town. The locals were more than happy to hear that the monsters were taking care of, and that their lives would be back to normal. The rest of the trip back to the Hidden Grass went on without any further issues, with that good feeling of a successful mission. He wasn't sure what the Grass Lord or the Hokage would do about the information on the facility buried under the cave, but he suspected a follow up mission would be issued, a higher ranking one.
