Much like the rest of Takigakure no Sato, Hotarubi was blissfully unaware to the existence of the new sages - and second "big" Sage to join Takigakure as an ally. That being said, it was not necessary for Hotarubi to know of their existence and he was blissfully unaware in his final preparations for the Genin exam to take place the next day over. He was suitably provoked by the concept of failing the advance exams and wanted to make it as easy as possible for himself and was using a private place in order to practise. Private places were good: less people, more opportunity for him to go all out. But currently he was preparing.

Was he nervous? He didn't think so. His face was monotonous as he thought - trying to feel out the air of the land laid before him, a blindfold crossed over his eyes. This was to get him into the zone to get ready: his fists placed together in front of his belly.

Was that something? He didn't know but sort of felt there could be another person. He pulled off the bandage: and looked to his front. Damn. There was nothing. He mumbled to himself, pulling the bandage back on to himself and carried on.

Good lord, if this was how it was going to be, he would have no hope tomorrow.

Hunting was a pleasure for Konsho. A reprieve from both his estranged father- who honestly was more of a land lord at the moment- and something Konsho had been doing so long it was simple. He was certain moving to Takigakure would be jarring to his muscle memory- but turns out Takigakure was also in the middle of a giant jungle. Thus it had only taken a minuscule adjusting period to get used to the area. He had found his footing, understood the slight difference in terrain. Simple positioning issues that was easy to overcome. Now came becoming more familiar with local fauna and flora. Or... at least that was the plan.

Now Konsho found himself looking down at a strange method of training. Seemed whomever was down there, he seemed to be doing something to help himself with a lack of vision. Normally Konsho, an introvert to the enth degree, would move on and leave the kid to his lonesome. But something about this was so weird he found himself drawn in. Besides... he wanted to see if he was still as good at hunting as he used to be... and part of hunting was stealth.

Approaching slowly, moving with small measured steps, and with the aid of chakra to keep himself attached to the nearest surface, Konsho approached the kid. He'd constantly stay to the side of the boy, knowing that when one couldn't see it was instinctual to focus their senses behind themselves. Even though he didn't have to worry about vision, Konsho instinctively kept himself low and and remained focused on the child's face. In a short amount of time- though it felt much longer than it truly was- Konsho found himself near the child. When the kid froze however, Konsho feared detection, and quickly darted back towards the near by trees, opting to use chakra to launch himself away, landing softly on a lower branch before moving quietly and softly into the foliage. As the cloth was lifted, Konsho watched the stranger tried to see if there actually WAS anyone there. Nothing. Kid seemed frustrated. So clearly there was a purpose here... This was going an interesting exercise.

Hotarubi was getting flustered and agitated with the perceived lack of change within this attempt at developing an ability. Something that would help him - as he tried to listen, taking advantage of both his ears and how the world felt around him. He didn't think much of feelings so he didn't concern himself with how the world felt, but how it was.

But - his acquaintance was also making a good exercise of it as well because his was just one of the many sounds that resounded throughout the jungle that made Hotarubi not care for it when it did cross his ears. He heard nothing: perceived nothing. And now it was a game that would be enjoyed by one participant at the least.

Perhaps - Hotarubi put a earthen hand to the floor. It did give him some feedback, and he needed to extend that sense beyond his hand and out into the world around him. Like Akira had said, the sense of being able to know where one's body was without looking was what he was trying to develop. Feeling around him - it wasn't good enough that he could hear the cricket of the jungle, he wanted to know where it was as well and not have to rely on his sense of sound. When he next felt like he had pinned down something - removed the eye covering a second time, twisting to his right - upward and hopefully catching a lizard up the size of a tree.

But there was not, again.

Perhaps there were more baby-like steps first he could take?

With a small smirk, Konsho would repeat the same set of movements as he had before, with a small change. A slight increase in pace. From a technical standpoint, it was hardly any different. But moving quickly usually meant an even slight increase in sound. Considering that nine times out of ten, any creature that could end up the hunted had adapted increased hearing, it was a risk... of course against a human, it wasn't going to make much of a difference. Still, practice was practice, and he was too curious as to what the boy was doing to just vanish after on attempt.

As he retraced his old path, he'd make it just a few inches from his target before the blindfold began to lift. The movements would repeat yet again, launching into the trees. This time however, he would be sure to not remain still. Something moving in the trees? Common. Moving in the trees in the same direction twice? Suspicious. So he'd dart to the left rather than remaining where he was, he'd quickly dash across the tops of the trees, seemingly fleeing to the east. Once he felt he was a fair distance away from the target, Konsho would return slowly to the child. His steps small and careful, making sure to not rustle the branches too much. Of course he wouldn't rustle them. There was only one thing more horrifying when surrounded by nature- the fact that everything was suddenly quiet. The jungle did not just stop, and when it did it was a sign you probably should too. The best way to blend in was to move with the sounds, find that primal rhythm and move it with... Primal rhythm? When did he start talking like that?

Clearing his thoughts with a slight shake, Konsho would return to see the child with his... hand on the ground? Was he feeling for something? Perhaps trying to find an object whilst blind? Or was he feeling for vibrations? It was near impossible to decipher without more details.

Stuck yet in this sort of limbo and unseen game between cat and mouse, Hotarubi was not doing too well for himself. Hotarubi himself was providing no indication as to what he was actually doing at that time and as far as Konsho might've been able to tell, it was his hearing that was being checked. A common misconception since he thought his hearing was good enough (how grossly wrong that he was) continued to hold his hand to the floor, trying to feel rather than hear or use any of his other senses.

It was a clear and boring repetition as he stopped moving his head around, the sounds of the jungle were slowing and that was an unmissable thing. His middle finger twitched, wondering if that had been a sign of anything, as he cast out his chakra trying to create a web of feeling - there was a feedback feeling like something stepped on.

He would take the blindfold off again, just in hope to see if it was anything. To no surprise, Hotarubi was losing his cool a bit he would swear to himself, completely unaware of any invasion to his privacy or space. Maybe? Hotarubi took to standing, placing the blindfold back on. Perhaps if he took imposing, deliberate steps; he would be able to navigate this jungle environment? That was a better task. And so he would - trying to feel out his environment without ... literally reaching around.

It was an interesting little interaction they had going on. Konsho approaching, the boy unaware until Konsho was practically on top of him, then retreat and start again. It was then that a realization hit Konsho. While this was probably helping the child, this training exercise was doing little for Konsho. Were this the true wild, the child would be dead five times over and Konsho would have simply moved on. Having snuck up on the boy three times proved that. Was he wasting his time here? Konsho would approach slowly, body lowered moving slowly. Perhaps, Konsho thought, he could use this to get used to human muscle movements.

Konsho know he could sneak up on the small boy, now it was time to instead test his timing. Test his medical knowledge. The scattered books in his room were proof to his study of physiology, it didn't matter until he practiced with said knowledge. Konsho was not so emotionally stunted that he'd just attack a random child to study their muscles, so for now he'd do his best to predict when the boy will remove his blindfold by the movements of his muscles. Not the most efficient, but it was a decent start.

As Konsho retreated just as he saw the shoulder begin to flex, he found himself barely avoiding the boy's gaze. The lord's assistant was unsure if that was due to the kid succeeding in... whatever he was trying to do, or if it was just Konsho's lack of experience in tracking the muscles specifically, rather than the whole body. Still, the boy would seemingly begin taking steps in the area rather than remaining still. Was he... trying to navigate while blind? Not a bad idea but.... lord he was doing it poorly. Maybe after a few more runs Konsho would reveal himself and give some advice. For now though, Konsho was focused on his own training.

That was an interesting... choice. They were going through their own type of training and Hotarubi wasn't even aware of Konsho's presence: this was what the training was even for! So, while he tried to do his own thing, Konsho too was doing theirs: ideally, they were both getting better.

There was an excruciating feeling in his gut, quite a quick one: a combination of those senses although blinded and he grabbed. The feeling was something he couldn't shake - the use of chakra, and something else?

He grabbed at the air, and in it, held a bird. That feeling in his gut had provided him a sort of, indicator? He couldn't really quantify the feeling. Apparently something was happening, in a close enough proximity to him. He didn't need to pull off the blindfold to know that something was helping him, by the way it fluttered in his hand. He held it for a few seconds, before letting it go.

Konsho would've seen it, and that there was some success. Of some sort. He sighed, pulling off the blindfold. He was going to take a moment to break, and he leaned back- laying his back down on the floor and staring up at the skies between the canopy of trees.

What a day.

The next round was an interesting one. A flock of birds had flown into the private training area. Konsho didn't blame them, to them it was just a piece of the forest. The movement was interesting. For a few seconds Konsho's world slowed down. The attack was rather fast even in that adrenaline filled moment. In synchronization the shoulders tensed and hands locked. As the movement officially began the boys arms raised like a spring before jumping out. The birds were shocked, and had it been merely one bird, it likely could have moved out of the way. But the flock of sudden panic- which the boy might not have even been made aware of- was capitalized on. As the arms moved further and further the wrists and palms twist, moving just in the way to catch the bird as it left. Fascinating.

Konsho observed the event in his head. At that first moment, the tensing of muscle, he would have needed to hit on an ever so slight curve. As the boy held his arms close to his body- the beginning of the spring like movement, the first two strikes would have been easy, but the sharp turn may have made the follow up difficult. As the boy lurched out, Konsho would have to take a few extra steps to angle his jabs correctly. But it wouldn't have been impossible.

Soon after, the boy would release the bird and blindfold. Resting at the base of a tree, Konsho figured now would be the time to begini in earnest. Konsho would stick to the side of the tree as he tried to get to the ground without looking like he was running at the child. Once he reached the bottom, the boy would speak up. "So what exactly are you trying to do here?"

It had been an interesting fly on the wall moment for Konsho to watch it, but while Hotarubi was focusing on his own experiences: Hotarubi was blissfully unaware and that wouldn't do at all. Even by the point of him being where he was, when Konsho spoke - Hotarubi's eyes moved faster than his head, then he twisted his body to go onto his front and come to a kneel.

The look on his face was that of confusion.

"You've been there this entire time?" Hotarubi was quite insistent, with his tone and expression being full of impatience. "Mother-fuck. fucker." He grumbled, annoyed. How was he meant to be the best if he couldn't identify people? "I'm trying to develop a sensory."

His earthen tongue rang around the inside of his earthen mouth. Hotarubi came to a stand. "How long?" He asked. He had grabbed a bird: he knew it. He was doubting his own ability if it had just been, some form of light and his hearing working in tandem for him to take a blind guess?

"I've been trying to practicably sort of... use enhanced senses? I've been training for months, but the academy doesn't help with this sort of thing and there's no guidelines on how to do it. Ya'kno?"

Either Konsho had truly caught this child off guard, or said child didnt have a strong vernacular. Still, couldn't blame him. He was admittedly surprised the child hadn't swung on him- given Konsho was the intruder here. Then came the question of how long he'd been here. Kid wasn't gonna like that one. "Judging by the shadows... I'd say about eight minutes? I've gotten close enough to strike you five times."

As the boy explained his goal and methods, Konsho gave a small sagely nod as he understood. "I see. Unfortunately stumbling in the dark isn't going to help you much." Konsho's red eyes would stare at the boy as he thought. He definitely learned through interaction, he wasn't a studious learner like Konsho. Perhaps the introduction of consequences would help? "Your method of training's only risk is vexation. If you want fast results, failure needs a price."

Almost to demonstrate, Konsho would immediately jab at the four points on the boy's arm, slowing his body to allow time to react. Even if the gap between them was too far for the boy to react, Konsho would find two of the blows did not have the reaction they should. Nerves must be further apart. Rather horrifyingly for the boy, these blows would almost seem to ignore the hardy body of the earthen child, although on the inside Konsho mentally noted he'd need to not hold back as much as he did on his strike from here on. Must be pf that Doton Body clan. Definitely could have bruised something if I didnt specialize in Wing Chun. "Had that full blow landed. You'd find your arm completely numb. Place your blindfold on. Your goal will be to avoid my strikes."

He tutted loudly. "Were you the one fucking up with my rhythm?" He had felt several times that - which was why he had removed his blindfold. What if it was actually him he was sensing but was unable to put any words to it? It explained why he wasn't getting anything if the man wasn't to be found each time he took the blindfold off.

Hotarubi looked down at Konsho, when he touched him. Confusion spread across his face. Konsho would have learned very quickly that in fact, nothing happened - because he was made of earth. But Konsho wouldn't understand why his body was so naturally strong and durable. He didn't have muscles. Didn't have anything to numb for Konsho. "Is that right?" Was this boy showing off? He would have stepped back but he didn't feel as though he were in any danger, and so he was just... almost embarrassed to stay still?

"I'm... leaving..." Hotarubi had already had his pride wounded by him being unable to sense Konsho. Unless there was reason - he did falter as he started walking away. This was a trade, and there was no reason that it wouldn't work - right? But... he did want to leave.

Konsho would be sure to project his voice as he spoke, ensuring his words reached the child as he attempted to leave. "You've already caught a nimble creature that strove too close. Now you need to extend that range." If the boy stopped, Konsho would continue. "I can help. But you need to plant your feet and be ready to take whatever pains- be it to your body or your pride- to get what you want."
