Thump, thump, thump. The floor lightly shook in a small locale around Hotarubi as he ran - human form today. Well, until he stopped using chakra. But - the purpose was just for general fitness which tended to work better in a human form with flesh and blood. He would never understand it, but it would feel for other people since it was an audible sound as he ran (and slowly at that) and his feet hit the floor. He was concerned with his positioning currently. He needed to keep himself straight: using the muscles only as specifically as needed, he was leaning too much into the inside of his feet and his calves were hurting. The area was around a busy area in Takigakure no sato, and he would not watch where he was going on account of looking purely into his own form and crashed into someone: he definitely made sure not to fall on, twisting his body as his hands touched the floor and simply rolling onto his belly beside the individual. "Sorry - sorry." Hotarubi apologised knowing he was in the wrong. He wasn't entirely rude - he hit his forehead against the ground, then stood himself up. If the other was still down, Hotarubi would not so much offer as yanking them off the floor with a bit of strength.

Today was going to be a simple day. Nari had plans to go visit the shops in the market and see what new goodies they had available. With any luck he'd be able to find something that could help him with future pranks he had planned. So, with Hisuiyuri strapped in its spot, Narihira had eagerly run from his home towards the busy center of town.

It was already bustling around the square, people out and about doing their own thing. Nari dodged through the crowds with ease, nimbly stepping out of the path of passersby as he made his way to his destination. His movements were second nature to him - having traveled the path many times before. Honestly, he wasn’t really, truly watching where he was going.

Not the best trait for a shinobi to have, but that was a problem for future Nari to worry about. So when a noise of someone moving close to him caused the boy to turn in place, he should not have been surprised that he ended up smacking right into the man who supposedly was the source of the noise that had distracted him.

And of course, the whole incident had happened when Nari had been in a precarious mid-step so of course he ended up falling flat on his back. Which was not comfortable at all, given the fact he had a giant spear on his back. They were not comfortable landing surfaces in case anyone was wondering. Nari was probably going to end up with a Hisuiyuri-shaped bruise. Joyous.

But the guy was apologizing, so Nari wasn’t really able to stay mad. He gratefully accepted the hand up offer, and yelped as he was yanked up hard enough to have him falling all over again, except this time on his face.

"It’s all right," he offered, as he righted himself. He unsheathed Hisuiyuri to check to make sure the spear wasn’t scuffed or scratched at all, using his sleeve to brush the dust off of it.

Once he was sure the spear was still in pristine condition, Nari brought his attention back to the other male. "I probably should have been paying better attention. What were you doing?"

  Narihira was lucky to be born with a deeper-than-average chakra pool. It allows him to fight and use jutsu for longer periods of time before he tires, compared to those with average-sized chakra pools. It's especially useful for him, due to the fact that his Life Blade is constantly absorbing chakra from him. But thanks to the depth of his stores, he never feels the strain from that drain unless he has depleted the polearm's stores in combat.
• 『Life Blade Chakra』[break]
  As all Life Blades, Hisuiyuri absorbs Nari's chakra continuously as he carries it around, stacking up a decent amount of chakra inside of itself equal to half its wielder's chakra pool. The chakra becomes Hisuiyuri's and cannot be accessed by anyone other than the spear, allowing it to have the ability to self-repair small nicks and scratches it may obtain during combat.

  It also allows Hisuiyuri to have its own built-in security in case someone other than Nari grabs onto it. Using its futon chakra, sharp blades of wind will strike at the stranger's hands and arms until they release the spear. These gouges are minor cuts but they do sting quite a bit if they manage to hit skin.

  When entering combat, Hisuiyuri will use its own stores to fuel its abilities until it runs out and then will begin taking from Narihira. Thanks to his deeper-than-average chakra pools the wielder and weapon are able to go for a decent length of time-fighting in that state, but eventually, it will cause Nari to lose consciousness if the spear takes too much chakra.
• 『Flying Jades』[break]
  Using its natural affinity to fūton, Hisuiyuri is able to detach the six small jade points that line the sides of its spearhead and allow them to hover. By sacrificing the shredding ability the points usually grant the spear, Narihira is able to fire them off either one-by-one or all at once towards his opponents.

  At it's current skill level, Hisuiyuri's points move at a speed slightly quicker than a regular thrown kunai, due to being powered by fūton chakra and Narihira's able to control the path the points take up to 30m.

Nari would be able to stand up quickly by the hand offered because he himself was such a lump. Eh. Still. Hotarubi wiped himself down some more, thankfully the other gentleman was not crushed by Hotarubi's rather dire weight. But, the change of pace would have Hotarubi's eyes glance over the weapon. That was pretty. Not his own style, but he could at least admire the hombre pattern and coloring of the metals. "That's cool - it alright?" He mentioned to the weapon. Not because Hotarubi was interested, because he wasn't: it was more in the interest of avoiding to pay for anything. He did not intend on paying for anything, not today. Not for any blade. It looked sharp. But it was unbroken, which he only hoped was enough. "I was running and hadn't watched where I was going." Again, not particularly a sorry but a rehash of what had happened from his own point of view. His tone remained monotonous throughout. He finally took a good look at the face and his eyes squinted. "Do I know you?" Something about the boy rang particularly familiar to Hotarubi but he was having trouble placing it right now. His brain was racking for information about the past and he hoped to keep him there until his brain was done searching.

Despite there being another person literally standing in front of him, talking, Nari's attention still drifted back to the spear in his hand. He was double and triple checking on the polearm to make sure it was fine, because he did not want to deal with the headache if it was messed up in any way. But Hotarubi's words did somehow manage to break through the boy's laser-focus.

"Huh? Oh thanks," he said, forcing himself to slide the spear back where it belonged, content that it was fine. "Yeah, it's fine, no scratches or anything."

With his eyes firmly on the other (much taller, curse him) boy, he caught the rest of the not-apology. Despite the fact that sorry hadn't been uttered by either parties yet, Nari gave a smile. Running without looking? He could relate. It had taken him a while to get as good as he was at weaving through crowds without smacking into someone.

The second part of Hotarubi's words confused him, however, he couldn't really place the other boy. The probably hadn't attended school together, the other was much older than he was (or so he assumed). But maybe they had been in different classes? "Um, I dunno," Nari admitted, cheerfully. "Maybe the Academy? Or perhaps you've been by my mom's shop? I'm Fukase Narihira."

The sound of a breeze past his ear had him nodding like he had just remembered something. "And this is Hisuiyuri," he tacked on at the end, indicating the spear.

Brushing off any dust that might have gotten onto his hand from Hisuiyuri's impromptu cleaning onto his pant leg, Nari offered his hand to the other boy in a cordial handshake.

Hota wasn't entirely convinced. The name was not familiar, and the idea of visiting Nari's mother's shop also didn't. "Yamakira Hotarubi." Hotarubi did give his name back in the mean time. "I'm not sure the Academy or your mother's shop. What kind of shop was it?" question after question it seemed; ensuring at least he could give himelf more time for his brain to work. Hotarubi put his hands to his pockets. He felt sticky: the point of having to actively be human was quite a negative experience for him, feeling clamminess in his hands and armpits; and generally smelling (which they had an earthy smell normally, of course!) But could be somewhat "unclean" on account of what it was they were comprised of. "Why has the weapon got a name?" Hotarubi did understand the concept of naming a weapon though he felt it somewhat redundant. The color made sense though he supposed. Jade Lily. But, Hotarubi would simply know it as 'spear' - on account of a lower class of imagination than Nari. He didn't care about it. Still, it would remain to be seen - he had gone through his entire list of family and extended family, then friends when Nari had said their name and finally moved on to the academy - other shinobi instances. Still yet. He didn't know Nari by name, that was for sure it did not ring a bell.

Yamakira Hotarubi. Yep, Nari had absolutely no clue who the guy was. Definitely not from the Academy days. Nari's eyebrow quirked up a bit at the other boy refusing to return his handshake but shrugged it off. Some people were weird like that. He knew that from the multitude of people that frequented his mom's place of business.

"She runs the Mikaze Game House," Nari told Hotarubi. The game house was a well known establishment within the community, eliciting all sorts of mixed reactions. Gambling was frowned upon by some people, others enjoyed it immensely. Nari wasn't allowed to participate, but every now and again he caught glimpses of the goings on when he passed the game floor on his way to and from his and his mom's apartment. "Maybe we caught sight of each other once or twice?"

Folding his arms across his chest, Nari tilted his head at the second question that came from the boy. "Because it needed a name. It would be rude to just call it 'spear' or something," and it would have probably made Hisuiyuri angry if he had done that. "Don't want to upset Hisuiyuri."

Nari was being completely serious. Pissing off a spirit weapon was one of the worst things one could do. Practically a death sentence if said weapon decided to reject its wielder.

"But other than school or the Game House, I'm not sure where we might have met," he tapped a finger against his chin as he pondered. "Perhaps in the market? I go there a lot to buy supplies."

Hotarubi listened, he had done a lot more of that in recent time. "Ah." a single grunt in recognition of the area in his mind map. The gambling house did not hold as much curiosity for Hotarubi as it did for the comings and goings of many older adults, though he could never personally do it. Maybe he would when he was older? Was that allowed? Would he ask for permission? All no's, so far. "Ah." it clicked with Hotarubi where he knew him, and a memory replayed. Hotarubi would shrug off the personification of a weapon, but he did not know of its significance, this memory was more important at the time. He no longer needed Narihara's helpful attempt to help his recollection. He pointed at Narihira. "Meiwaku [Nuisance]." Hotarubi had been a oddity of his own sort a few years back as well, so the tidings of the time rang a bell to him. "I got paint all over my uniform because allegedly something you were behind." Was that true? Only whispers made its way back to Hotarubi of the incident. One that he very much hated, being the butt of someone else's joke, which he was not so good at taking. Name calling? That wasn't so bad, he could rub it off. But practical jokes? Yeah. Not so fun. In Narihara's turn, maybe that would also place them at the academy for a recollection of his own memories. Hotarubi wasn't impressed but the embarassment had worn off since then. "Was that you?" a tone of less mercy come to his voice as he stared blankly at Narihara.

Nari was going on inside his head on other possible ways that he could have met the older boy, his suggestions sadly coming up as blanks, but he foraged on nonetheless. It was quite a pickle because Hotarubi seemed sure he knew him. Nari, on the other hand, had no sense of familiarity. No senses of déjà vu from this genin.

He tilted his head as the incident was recounted, something about paint cans and uniforms, and it slowly came back to him. It had been a while back, but yeah, that had been him. Totally. He had nearly fallen off the roof he had been hiding out on in laughter after seeing the small group get drenched in the thick paint.

The laughter that was totally starting to bubble up again. "Oh, yeah, that was totally one of mine," he giggled, the menacing look in Hotarubi's eye just egging him on even more. Probably not a good thing. He snorted another laugh. "Priceless."

Despite his nonchalance in the menacing aura of the taller male, he wasn't actually an idiot. He planted his foot properly into the ground so he could zip out of the way in case Hotarubi did try to take a swing at him for the prank.

  Giving it the name Hisuiyuri, he began learning to properly wield it from the moment he could hold it. Due to the connection the blade shares with him, should it ever be broken, both Narihora and the blade's soul would die, so he keeps it on his person at all times and cares for it meticulously.

  Narihira was lucky to be born with a deeper-than-average chakra pool. It allows him to fight and use jutsu for longer periods of time before he tires, compared to those with average-sized chakra pools. It's especially useful for him, due to the fact that his Life Blade is constantly absorbing chakra from him. But thanks to the depth of his stores, he never feels the strain from that drain unless he has depleted the polearm's stores in combat.

  As all Life Blades, Hisuiyuri absorbs Nari's chakra continuously as he carries it around, stacking up a decent amount of chakra inside of itself equal to half its wielder's chakra pool. The chakra becomes Hisuiyuri's and cannot be accessed by anyone other than the spear, allowing it to have the ability to self-repair small nicks and scratches it may obtain during combat.

  It also allows Hisuiyuri to have its own built-in security in case someone other than Nari grabs onto it. Using its futon chakra, sharp blades of wind will strike at the stranger's hands and arms until they release the spear. These gouges are minor cuts but they do sting quite a bit if they manage to hit skin.

  When entering combat, Hisuiyuri will use its own stores to fuel its abilities until it runs out and then will begin taking from Narihira. Thanks to his deeper-than-average chakra pools the wielder and weapon are able to go for a decent length of time-fighting in that state, but eventually, it will cause Nari to lose consciousness if the spear takes too much chakra.
• 『Flying Jades』[break]
  Using its natural affinity to fūton, Hisuiyuri is able to detach the six small jade points that line the sides of its spearhead and allow them to hover. By sacrificing the shredding ability the points usually grant the spear, Narihira is able to fire them off either one-by-one or all at once towards his opponents.

  At it's current skill level, Hisuiyuri's points move at a speed slightly quicker than a regular thrown kunai, due to being powered by fūton chakra and Narihira's able to control the path the points take up to 30m.

Narihara seemed especially joyful over the instance being recalled in their memory, something that kept his face stony in response. That relived memory was like it happening all over again. "I didn't appreciate it," Hotarubi instantly went to draw something from his persons - a knife? Something sharp? Behind him it went, and he pulled it out menacingly at Narihara. A notepad and pen. "How did you balance the paint on the thin door? I've tried doing it, but without applying some sort of twine, I wasn't able to apply a twine while also making it tip over onto people." He didn't appreciate it having happened to him, nobody made him the butt of a joke and live to tell the tale. While the previous sentence wasn't necessarily true, Hotarubi now set in his sights a response prank that would be ten times greater than paint on the body. But, Hotarubi would rather be caught dead than in the past like his brother was: he would be the best Yamakira, in time. But, his applied combat experience at this stage would be useful for committing pranks of the highest calibre, and Narihara knew some things that Hotarubi did not. Hotarubi briefly looked up at the spear, and then back down as he jotted down any notes or things that Nari responded with in case it were useful.

Getting asked about his pranks was definitely not how Nari expected the conversation to go, but he was pleasantly surprised by the turn of events. Most people just scolded him and told him to "never pull that sort of shit again”. The people who wanted to know, actually wanted to know, how he had done the prank were very few and far in between.

Nari shifted his foot forward a bit, still not really believing the taller kid was interested in this but happy to play along.

"Usually I can make it balance by using small pieces of wood to widen the surface area I place it on, but for that particular one, if I remember correctly," he said, his grin turning more genuine, "there’s this really easy to miss lip right over the door that if placed carefully enough can hold a bucket up. Just a small jostle, like the door opening, would knock it down and boom, instant paint shower."

Most of his pranks were set up based on making use of the surroundings he came upon. It was a talent of his that he’d learn from his mom, picking out the small details that he could utilize - though she used her powers of observation to pick out the people it would be easiest to pull into a grift.

Wood pieces? That was something he had considered. Not put it into practice in lieu of other options. There were other options, sure, he could have also done that: but if he were aiming for a particular target, he'd have to time it well. That was what he'd done in the past - and he continued scribbling notes, even a little diagram to accompany his thoughts. "Right, right..." "Pranks take skill, you know." Hotarubi was a little indignant in his response as though he weren't considered an opponent in the pranking department. "I'd done this little bit with glitter, right? Glue, rolled into a ball - comes swinging down from the top of a door and straight into the chest. Perfect for enemies, they'd be pulling glitter out of places for months! Ha." Hotarubi was showing the side he loved to show, not the silent sullen one, but the one who was cheeky - showed love to what he loved to do. Not quite like sharing these things with other people.

The sparkly devil dust was an absolute terror to get out of things, just like Hotarubi had said. He absolutely loved the stuff. Devolving into snickers about the prank the other boy had pulled off, he nodded his approval at it. "Smart smart, door traps are classic and catching them like that always gets the best reactions."

Nari’s own favorite glitter pranks usually involved putting glitter bombs into letters and delivering them through peoples’ mail slots. Though he didn’t get to experience the initial reactions, the subsequent months of complaining always drew giggles out of the boy.

"You are right, though, the best pranks take real skill." Nari worked on improving his skills every day. "I've been practicing a lot of climbing and jumping in order to get to those hard to reach places you can’t get to normally."

"Accidentally opened a pack wrong before. I was finding it for months in my room." At home; that was not particularly fun for him. But, Nari could and would likely appreciate the trials and tribulations of finding the tricks of the trade. He did see Nari doing his little dancey-dance and could understand it even if he didn't express it in the same way. The other aspect that he enjoyed was getting enjoyment out of it and not being caught in doing so. The stealthy part: the not reacting part. That was helpful for not getting detention, particularly in the academy where he had used it to forge his skills. The parkour was something that Hotarubi could appreciate, he made some side notes - scribbles - not important, as Nari spoke. "I hope to see it one day." Hotarubi would cough, putting his things away. His own thoughts on the process? He looked up- hand to his earthen chin. "I think not being caught, or catching multiple people. The more intricate you can make something takes skill, I've always wanted to pull off a really elaborate, twenty-persons whatever involved prank that got someone proper, you know?"
