Murakumo

OWNER: Murahira Hana

RANK: S

CLASSIFICATION: Offensive

ELEMENT: Fūton

RESTRICTIONS:

DESCRIPTION:
Murakumo, the Cloud-Gathering Sword, is an heirloom of the Murahira clan currently in the possession of the Ghostflame Hunter, Murahira Hana.

This single-edged straight sword features a blade of 77.3cm, and a straight, two-handed hilt at 22.7cm, made from one item as opposed to the typical wood-clad and cloth-wrapped tang-based construction of a normal katana. Similarly, it does not have a typical Tsuba, but but a single 'spike' measuring 8.4cm that sits above a concave indentation in the blade that could be used to catch and control another weapon.

Murakumo is made of the highest quality steels, some even claim that the material descended from space, or the heavens, but those rumors are unconfirmed. The majority of the weapon is a dusky black, while the sharpened blade is a smoky gray. While the hilt could be wrapped with another material for comfort, it is often left bare as "killing should never be comfortable".

Murakumo comes with a similarly simplistic scabbard. Though a little odd, the overall length of the scabbard is 10.2cm longer than the blade it houses, leaving a gap at the end. This end section, as well as several centimeters around the top are wrapped in a cloud-like design of silver metal, while the rest is a dull black lacquered wood.

ABILITIES:
Cloud-scattering Petals | Chakra Reactive
Murakumo's most noteworthy aspect is the way it reacts to Fūton chakra. Over time, it can draw upon the wielder's chakra and store it within the blade and scabbard, building up to a maximum value. When drawn, up to seven wispy-green ribbon-like tendrils flutter around the tsuba of Murakumo as if caught in a perpetual light breeze.

Each ribbon represents a use of Murakumo, which when activated by a single hand seal (medium cost), it applies one of the ribbons to any surface the blade so much as grazes. The ribbon, initially only several centimeters long, can stretch up to sixty meters once applied, and will do so in a strictly linear, non-deviating pattern, and travels from one surface to another until it can go no further and takes a maximum of three seconds to fully apply.

By using another hand seal, the wielder activates the ribbon and wind chakra creates an extremely deadly blade that travels along it, slicing through anything in its path. The blade, like Murakumo, is 77.3cm in length, and can be created on either side of the ribbon. It will only cut through things that Murakumo can cut through, and if it meets something it cannot cut, it will shatter the ribbon and come to an end.

The wind blade travels very quickly, able to reach the end of the sixty meters in about three seconds.

Once all ribbons are used up, it can be recharged by returning it to the scabbard. To recharge, it has a low chakra cost and takes one rotation per ribbon. If the sword is removed from the scabbard before it is fully charged, the cost will have to be paid again to begin charging once more.

Murakumo is considered fully charged at the beginning of a thread.

Eternal Blade | Exceptional Durability
There is a rumor surrounding Murakumo that it is made of metal that fell from the heavens, and while it is an unfounded rumor, Murakumo's blade does possess a seemingly unnatural ability to retain its shape regardless of what it goes up against. Murakumo may not be able to cut through everything, but even if it is swung against something that it cannot cut, the blade will not chip or deform. Only the most potent tools would damage this blade.

While it can be repaired if this occurs, it's not an easy feat.

It Will Cut | Enhanced Sharpness
There is something about Murakumo that makes it sharper than most other weapons. It may well stem from its ability to hold a keen edge despite whatever it comes up against, thereby being sharpened to a greater degree than other swords, or perhaps it comes from something else. Whatever the reason, Murakumo possesses an edge that can cut many things that a typical steel blade could not.
