All forms of encouragement resonated with the scrappy little Leaf Shinobi, and she kept up her attempts as they traveled further and further at Azarea's direction. She didn't seem to be wearing out, either. She was either very good with her chakra rationing- unlikely- or else she just had remarkable fuel in that tank of hers. She was still failing a few times out of every half dozen, but the rate was dropping, slowly.

"I can relate to that. I'm not too picky about how I win, but I always end up needing to be sneaky at the end of the day. No reason to let anyone play the game they want to play, you know? Force brawlers into an attrition of ranged attacks, bring the fight to snipers, and- well, there's all sorts of fun ways to ruin the day for Ninjutsu users! I don't think I'll ever have a reputation for being overwhelming. But versatile... I might be able to make that work."

Miroru paused, though, well after the insects had caught the scent of smoke. "Hey," she murmured quietly. "There's a trail over here. I think it's supposed to look like a deer trail, but I don't see or smell any droppings at all, so I think maybe it's a trail towards the camp? Over in that direction somewhere?"

"Just don't give up on me! We can figure this out!"

"In the midst of chaos..."

"I think you're right. If you look up and to the right I can barely make out a fire between the trees." Azarea murmurs nodding in approval at Miroru's good eyes even in the rapidly decreasing light. "If they were a caravan they'd be closer to the road. One moment I'll check it out." She quips closing her eyes and acting as though she were concentrating and stretching out her senses as she'd seen fledgeling sensory ninja do. However, instead Azarea waits for her Kikaichu to get back to her. The insects bringing with them mental images of ragged men with weapons crowded around a small fire and... two woman gagged and crying tied to a tree."

"You're right. Those are the bandits. There's ten of them. Four archers, from the looks of their weapons, six men with melee weapons, but they've got captives. Two civilian women... probably being ready to be sold to traffickers." Azarea reports nostrils flaring with a bit of fury. "We'll need to evacuate the civilians. I think I can hide them with a genjutsu and pull them back into the forest for their own safety." Azarea suggests after a long moment of quiet consideration.

"Your thoughts Miroru-san?" She inquires glancing towards her partner. Unfortunately the women meant that once they dealt with this group they'd need to escort them back, but their mission would be complete so long as they thinned the bandit's numbers.

A mutated variant of the Aburame clans Yūdai no Omorejō ["Bewildering Grandeur of the Alpha"] resulting from the subsequent poisoning of Azarea's former Yūdai no Omorejō hive to prevent potential hijutsu theft. While the Joō no Taikanshiki no Regaria lacks the Yūdai no Omorejō size instead Azarea's hive has maintained the ability to produce alpha pheromones and commanding vibrations. Evolving instead to hyperspecialize in these two aspects allowing them to produce pheramones and vibrations strong enough to be detected by human hearing and sense of smell.

Miroru got a lot more serious once she heard there were captives. Her expression closed up, and Azarea could see her eyes dipping back and forth as she thought. She didn't want to be overly brutal... but neither was she willing to take risks with the lives of innocents.

"We'll need to work in unison. I can provide a distraction, but I'm going to have to be aggressive to prevent them from thinking of using the hostages as leverage before you can extract them. So once you're in place, I'm going to attack from the other side of the camp. At first, I'm going to be focused on being as many places as quickly as I can to keep them off balance, and you can extricate the victims."

Miroru reached back and pulled a simple scroll out of a pocket of her pack. "If you use this, it will release a ton of water. If you can flood the area where several of them are standing, and then get out of the water yourself, I can drop all of those at once. That'll also make a great signal that you're back and ready to engage. Sound like a plan?"

"Just don't give up on me! We can figure this out!"

"In the midst of chaos..."

"I think that's a good plan of attack we can..." Azarea trailed off when her Kikaichu alerts her to the scent of food. The bandits having put a pot on the fire as slowly an evil grin spreads across the woman's face. "Actually Miroru-san... hear me out. I have an idea." She begins as she turns digging through her pack and pulling out a handful of dried nightshade.

"Miroru-san can you see if you can sneak up and take out any bandits that move out into the bush to relieve themselves? If you can drop one without them the wiser I'll impersonate them. They're cooking food on the main fire. If I slip these nightshade into their food and in about thirty or so minutes they're going to be vomiting and soiling themselves which should make them a lot safer and easier to deal with. I'll volunteer to 'feed' the captives and loosen their bonds then trigger the scroll and evacuate with them. Then you can jump down and pick them off." She suggests hoping this might even the odds a bit for them.

"And... one just headed into the bushes to the right." Azarea informs ducking low into the brush as she points in the direction of a potential target.

"Ooh. I know that grin. I have that grin!" Miroru whispered, excited and nearly bouncing in place. "Tell me, tell me! What's the plan?"

Listening closely, she nodded, rotating her staff along its axis in her hand, thinking over the details offered and explained. "I think I can manage that, yeah. I'll leave the infiltration to you, but the shutdown? I can manage that."

Released on her own recognizance, Miroru clambered up into one of the trees and started to scamper along, activating a particular Taijutsu technique she'd discussed earlier to speed up- a lot. A LOT. She wasn't really used to scrambling around in branches, so the speed helped a lot- she only had to actually land one or two leaping hops to clear the distance, and then she was dropping out of the tree almost *ahead* of the sound of her in the canopy, leaving the bandit looking at where she'd BEEN and not where she WAS. With him distracted, even briefly, her hands swung, and brought the heavy end of her staff up against the side of his head, whacking it into the tree for a double whammy- and specifically ensuring she didn't follow through and smash it flat against the tree trunk. The unconsciousness and concussion should last more than long enough for Azarea to do her job, after all!

"In the midst of chaos..."

The bandit goes down like a sack of rocks as Azarea follows quickly behind Miroru. The woman giving her a thumbs up and an approving nod for a job well done as she grabs the man by the hair getting a good look at his face before it swells and the outfit he's wearing. From the camp there's a few mutterings of "What was that?" But no alarm as deciding she's got a good enough look at him Azarea folds her hands into the proper seals, concentrates, and with nary a puff of smoke suddenly the same bandit as before was standing right next to his downed twin. The only difference the rapidly growing bruises as if from a tree branch growing across his throat. Giving Miroru a nod and a wink the 'bandit' ambles back into camp rubbing at his neck.

"Oy what the f- happened to you?" The bandit manning the cooking pot on the fire questions with an arched brow as the 'bandit' lumbered closer picking up two bowls and grabbing the spoon to help himself to the meal.

"Caught a branch across the throat pissin." The disguised Azarea grumbles out in a low gruff voice taking advantage of the cooks distraction to dropping double the deadly amount of nightshade into the pot from their sleeve as 'he' was in the process of ladling stew. The chef letting out a rough laugh at his companions expense.

"Guess that's why you sound like shit." The Chef jests nudging the disguised Azarea in the side as the 'bandit' lets out an angry growl.

"At least it didn't pop me beneath the belt and leave me sounding like a girl like someone. I'm gonna go feed the prisoners." The 'man' shot back his response earning a howl of laughter from the surrounding bandits as he stomped off towards the tied up and terrified women. Setting the bowls aside he leaned forward to take the gag off the first one using the opportunity to whisper in their ear. The other bandits lining of to get their own food as the band of thieves settles in about the campfire for some chatter.

"Don't be afraid I'm here to rescue you. Just cry and beg when I take the gag off. I'm going to cause a distraction and free you. When it's time don't fight me and follow me and I'll get you out of here." He/She whispered in both their ears. The woman sobbing and pleading as Azarea lets out a gruff growl moving as though to force some of the stew down one of their throat before fumbling the bowl so it falls.

"Stupid. Ugly... you two better be worth good money when we're done~" She/He rants under his breath bending down as if to get the bowl as Azarea palms a kunai and the water scroll. Slicing the bonds holding the women with a quick flick of their wrist. The sound of one of the bandits upchucking behind them the cue Azarea had been waiting for. Thumbing the seal on the water scroll they over hand chucked it behind them. The scroll going off as water exploded from within it dousing the fire and not only putting out the bandit's main source of light, but also signaling Miroru.

Dropping her henge in her normal voice Azarea roared out "Kirigakure no Jutsu!" At the top of her lungs triggering the genjutsu as all around the bandits thick mist would seem to rise from the wet ground further obscuring their vision. A technique easy enough for Miroru to hopefully simply kai out of given the extent of it's reach.

Azarea Henges into the downed bandit and slips the nightshade shed gathered in Alkaloid Alphabet into the bandit's stew. Azarea cuts the prisoners ropes, activates/throws the water scroll. Water scroll puts out fire. Azarea 'drops' her henge and uses Continues Fog Genjutsu.

Miroru stayed crouched in the bushes while Azarea moved out to ploy her deceptions, free the prisoners, and prime Miroru's entrance. She stayed dead still, quiet as she could, and waited for the sound of rushing water to confirm everything was going to plan, and that it was time to move in and-

"Kirigakure no Jutsu!"

As the voice cracked across the clearing over the gushing wash of stored water, Miroru pushed chakra into her legs, leaving them nearly crackling with power- but paused as a thick, powerful fog flowed into the area. Hidden Mist no jutsu?

... was that even a thing?

Wait! Azarea had warned she'd use a Genjutsu to hide her escape. This had to be it! Her hands clapped together in a single handsign! Release!

Sure enough, with a gush of chakra through her system, the fog vanished from her eyes- and that meant it was time to move! A few handsigns- created in instants- brought true, visible power to her hands.

And then she leapt.

A streak of lightning tore out of the underbrush and through the air, a rod of crackling, raging lightning held over her head, and brought down like a lancer's spear, her feet braced on the gnarled head at the bottom of her staff- and the Raiton-charged head of the weapon discharging into the water layered over the ground beneath her.

The clearing, briefly, lights back up again as electricity rages across the surface of the water, crackling up into and through all the bandits gathered around the fire's general area, turning their sickened groans into brief, ratcheting howls as they're electrocuted- and then she's pushed off the staff to get into the air again, pulled the staff up, and dropped into the water-logged clearing through what must look the bandits like a grounded thunderhead filled from within by lightning. After all- Miroru herself was moving with the speed of a thunderbolt- and that sure as hell looked like one in her hand!

"In the midst of chaos..."

As Miroru leapt Azarea grabbed hold of the two women and flooded her legs and body with chakra as she pushed up and off the ground leaping up and backwards into the trees and taking the civilians with her. Trusting that in the heat of the moment the bandits wouldn't think to look up as she settled the two women, barely girls really, safely onto one of the sturdy branches of a Hi no Kuni oak. Then giving them a smile and a reassuring thumbs up as lighting and thunder roared behind her she quips, "Just leave this to my partner and me. We'll have you both back to Konohagakure before tomorrow night." She assures them as one of the girls breaks out into relieved sobbing.

Meanwhile back in the camp the bandit's screams ring out. The archers losing their grip on their bows or gripping them so hard they nearly break unable to draw back the strings. They fair better then those poor thugs that held metal weapons however who are left with electrical burns from the contact along their palms as they howl out in agony. Two of the bandits go down outright the combination of severe upset stomach and being electrocuted too much for them as they lay twitching in the thin layer of water as it soaks into the earth and begins to slurry the ground into mud.

Two of the men though that had been at the edges of the pool of water eventually recover themselves enough to mount an attack. One an archer notching back an arrow as he fires three attacks at Miroru's general direction, but the fog is hampering his ability to see her. The other a man wielding a wooden club spiked through with nails driven through it charges at where the light had been swinging widely and wildly in hopes of clipping their attacker.

Azarea is getting to see a side of Miroru nobody has before. To everyone else, from the outside in, the Justice Scouts were just a goofy kid game, a fun name taped onto the children's antics. But to Miroru, it's more than that. It's a lifestyle, a creed to uphold. Not only to find fun and joy wherever she can- but to strike at injustice and evil until it can threaten others no more.

And "captive women intended to be trafficked" is all she needed to hear to slot every one of these bandits out of "poor choices" to "ask questions later." Those women's fates depend on her, and the choices of those who captured them and left them crying, screaming wrecks disavowed them of nearly every last scrap of mercy she might have otherwise afforded. They say there's two types of pain in the world. That which hurts; that which alters.

Nobody gets off easy tonight.

As the crowd collapses, most momentarily, two still stand, and the lightning bolt of movement that is Miroru tears across the field faster than any of them can track, stabbing her staff into the ground as she goes. One has a club, the other is aiming arrows near blind. Miroru blitzes into the approaching bandit and takes a frighteningly strong grip of his clothing as she pivots. Two of the arrows were no-place close to her- one was near, and as Miroru executes a Taijutsu technique called Noroshi, she blocks its path with his body as she hurls him into the archer at terrifying speeds, bowling them both over as she darts back to grab her staff and charges the two without fear- and slams the copper cap of the staff down onto the two, delivering a one-two jolt of the weapon's natural Raiton reactivity, and the jutsu still coursing through her fists, tazing them both as the electricity passes through them, safely into the ground.

"In the midst of chaos..."

As Miroru ducks down grabbing the bandit by the front and swinging him into the arrow strike the man lets out a screaming yelp as the arrow lodges deep into his back. He doesn't however, have time to ponder his poor choices as he finds himself flung backwards into the archer. The two going down in a tangle of limbs as the archer tries to wiggle out from beneath his companion only to take the electrified copper head of Miroru's staff to his chest. Leaving the pair a twitching pile of limbs on the ground.

The man's scream however seems to have roused the other bandits as they start to stagger to their feet. Three men drawing their swords as they shift to put themselves loosely back to back and begin moving towards the origin of the sound. Their swords pointed outwards hoping to spear any attacker in this damnable fog. Forgetting their archer in their panic to protect themselves. As the man draws an arrow giving a swift kick to the side of one of his companions laying near his feet growling a harsh "Get up you useless lug." that trails off into a bloody gurgle as he finds a kunai dragged across his throat. Azarea having flickered close with a shunshin her scarlet eyes gleaming as she drops the body ontop of the now panicking thug on the ground. Her fingers flitting through a series of rapid signs, putting her practice with handseals to use to spit a Kekkai: Dangan [Barrier: Bullet] right through his eye socket. The area around her falling silent as she backs off into the treeline once more like a ghost.

"There is also opportunity."

10 Bandits. 2 down from initial Raiton strike. 2 Disabled from an arrow, Miroru's throw, and secondary raiton strike. Azarea shunshins behind second archer and cuts his throat with a kunai. Then finishes off downed thug with Barrier Bullet. 3 thugs circled up. 1 thug still stunned. 4/10 remaining.

By invigorating one's entire body with chakra, a shinobi can seemingly disappear and reappear in another location faster than most people can see. Often times one's movements are disguised with the use of an extra element, be it a smoke bomb, leaves, water, sand, etc. in order to hide the user's trajectory from those with skilled eyes. Though it mimics teleportation, it is important to remember this jutsu merely boosts the agility of its user. As useful as this technique is, it can only be used 4 times in a battle thread, compounding in exertion and difficulty each time. with any more usages beyond that result in muscle tears in the legs from overexertion. The hand seal for this technique must be held until the shinobi reaches their destination, making it impossible to utilize other techniques regardless of any preparation.

Compressing air into a very tiny barrier the size of a musket ball, the user fires it at great velocity towards the target, able to pass straight through a human body. However objects of higher density than it will certainly stop it, including certain thicknesses of wood, iron or steel.

Miroru caught sight of the trio, and a brief glance of Azarea dispatching the two left behind. By their counts, there should be six left total. These three, and three others... somewhere. The tricky little genin thought for a moment, and then utilized the basic Clone technique to send a couple images of herself running through the mist at the trio, their lack of shadow unimportant with the fog cover.

Dropping the Raiton technique, Miroru spiked her staff into the ground and pulled out one of her kunai, plastering two strips of paper onto the handle. She hurled the kunai at the ground between the three, hands at the ready as the kunai thunked to the ground between the trio.

"HA! YA MI-"

Miroru completed the hand sign for Snake.

The explosion tore up the ground and ensured the three would never taunt or enslave anybody again.

Plucking her staff back up, Miroru left her hands free of Raiton as she darted along through the illusory mist, hunting for the other three. She didn't care if she took them out or Azarea did, but she wanted to ensure they were dealt with- and that the rescued women had nothing to fear.

"Just don't give up on me! We can figure this out!"

"In the midst of chaos..."

The bandits fall with a boom and a meaty thunk. The explosion rousing the last of the remaining three, two of which were the ones she had initially taken out with her first bout of raiton and the poison and don't appear to be likely to rouse at all if ever again. The last man though glances around expression panicked at what bodies he could see as she shakily grips his sword. Then turns on his heel to run. Lighting off into the brush and woods like a startled jackrabbit intent on running fast then rather running to anything, his eyes wide with terror.

For a moment Azarea considers letting him go to serve as a warning from where she watches him from her perch. Then thinks better of it as she flashes through the seals for the barrier bullet jutsu once more and taking aim sends the spike of chakra straight through the back of the man's head as he tumbles to the ground. The bodies will serve as warning enough.

"Hey Miroru? Do you think you're up for finishing those two on the ground or want me to do it? I might need a hand getting these nice ladies down from the tree." She calls out to her partner with a grin and a little wave before gesturing to the women who are still crying and shaking a bit, but look far more reassured then before knowing their attackers would never bother them again.

"There is also opportunity."

Miroru's stomach twists, but she steadies herself, reminding herself how awful these people had been, how little regard for their victims they really had. They got a swift dismissal. That's more than they deserved, probably.

"... Finish them?" Miroru looked down at the stunned ones at the ground, frowning faintly. The idea of just... murdering a couple of guys with no way to resist clearly struck her very, very badly. But she looked back at the women still sobbing, in what might be relief, and looked back.

The genin took a few moments to roll the two on their sides, back to back, and hesitantly executed the Short Circuit jutsu again. She shocked them twice- once through the heads to ensure they were completely unconscious, and once by placing her hands over each's heart, running the intense current straight through each to stop them while they were passed out.

Standing, she released the technique, but she looked more than a little unsettled. She came back over to where Azarea was with the rescued women, eye shifting along the ground as she tried to make sense of things. She still didn't see a way she could have ensured they'd never do this again without killing them- but it had still felt... unfair, she supposed.

"Just don't give up on me! We can figure this out!"

Azarea wets her lips mouth opening and closing as she notices the younger woman's distress. Trying to recall what her own Sensei had told her the first time she'd had to finish off downed opponents. It had been so long ago and such times were hazy, but... "You followed my orders and you did a good job. These woods are safer for it." She murmured voice firm with authority as she carefully shoulders the weight of Miroru's guilt. Allowing the girl to have a chance to step back from those emotions and examine them as doing what they must under orders rather then out of cold blood. It was all Azarea could truly offer as taking one of the women she carefully lowered her down into Miroru's arms.

"Here. If we carry them we can reach the outpost before dawn and make our reports." She murmurs as she scoops up the other hostage ignoring how the panicked woman's nails bit into the patched worn leather of her jacket. The other one burying her head against Miroru's shoulder as she sobbed in distress clutching the girl like a life line. As channeling chakra to her feet Azarea carefully picked her way back down from the tree. Turning to lead the way out of the now trashed clearing and former bandit camp. The bodies would serve as a warning, but she wouldn't tell Miroru that. Not when the girl's thoughts were already occupied.

There was an ache in Miroru's eyes when she looked up at Azarea. It was clear she recognized what she was trying to do. She didn't resent it- she just understood that orders or no, she'd made the decision to listen and act out those orders. She was appreciative- but the weight remained.

Well.

Maybe they split it now.

Miroru maneuvered her staff to keep it from obstructing the woman's grip as she settled into Miroru's arms, clinging to the petite redhead for dear life. "Hey, hey. It's over. They're gone, we're taking you to your homes. I'm sorry you went through all that and saw all this. You can start forgetting it when you're safe and warm in your own bed, okay?" She wasn't awful at this bedside manner thing. In fact, she seemed a bit like she'd had some training at exactly that.

Taking care of the freed prisoners did wonders to keep Miroru's mind off her worries. She rambled and chatted and kept the women occupied listening to her. Sure, they might get annoyed, but that was worlds better than drowning in their fears and sorrows. Heck, irritated snaps could be played off of to earn giggles despite the gripes, and then she could ease off whatever bothered them. She kept it up all the way back to the outpost, where she let Azarea make their report, leaving her quite and contemplative.

She felt like she'd done something good with those girls. Something constructive. It might start to make up for so much destruction.|

Maybe.
