"In the midst of chaos..."

Azarea found herself in a strange predicament. A truly, and wholly odd one at that. She'd done too good of a job. When Dawa-san had said he'd recommend her to the Konoha merchant association along with Genbu-san for aiding him in getting his porcelain safely to Kawa she'd thought at most maybe she'd see a bump in paygrade. Maybe even an offer to escort another caravan back to Kaminari no Kuni given Dawa-san would be remaining in Hi-No-Kuni for a few months and likely contracting Konoha for protection back. She admittedly hadn't expected to find her name featured on a series of joint village operations and to find herself lingering in one of the small villages near Konohagakure no Sato waiting for her partner, one Uchiha Miroru, in order to go hunt bandits along the border of the land of fire and the land of rivers.

Strange situations made stranger bedfellows it seems and Azarea was getting used to her Hi-No-Kuni disguise. The woman's usually bright red hair having been turned a pale white and her vibrant crimson eyes exchanged for silver. She kept her height and build though. The less drastic the change after all the easier it would be for her to maintain it though she had a feeling she'd be returning to Kumo with much better chakra control then when she'd left. As the woman leaned back in the chair she was lounging in at in the small inn, 'The Moyashi Inn' as it was creatively named, that she'd been instructed to meet her mission partner at. The woman on alert looking for the telltale Konoha leaf headband as she made sure her own Kumo cloud one was proudly on display where it was tied to her left upper bicep.

/Uchiha-san,

Your assignment today is on the borderlands between Hi no Kuni and Kawa no Kuni, working with a shinobi from Kumogakure no Sato. There are bandits preying on and harassing the travellers between our nation, and Kaze no Kuni. Your task will be to work together with your Kumogakure counterpart to reduce the bandit numbers and give them a reason to cease- or at least reduce- their activity in the area./

Miroru ran over the orders in her head a few times as she travelled, striding through the forests and trails of her homeland without concern. The only worry on her mind was underperforming, or letting down her partner from Kumogakure. Either way, if she did her best, she was sure she could avoid such a terrible fate!

As it was, she arrived at the Moyashi Inn a little ahead of schedule, underestimating herself in classic fashion through a failure to adjust the travel time by her increasing level of general fitness. Polished headband on proud display, an ornate carved staff on her back that looked half-carved and half-grown, and bright eyes announced her presence the moment she walked in.

Of additional note?

She looked maybe two days over thirteen.

This was gonna be an adventure for one of them, at least.

"Just don't give up on me! We can figure this out!"

"In the midst of chaos..."

And the jingle of the bell over the Inn door Azarea turns a pleasant smile plastered onto her face ready to make a good first impression upon her soon to be partner for this mission... and then has to use every ounce of willpower she possess not to let the smile slide right off her face at the sight of what could only be described as a 'kid' walking through the door like an academy student on their first fieldtrip. For godsake their headband didn't even have a scuff on it unlike Azarea's clean, but well worn Kumo armband. The sight of it causing something to twist within Azarea's chest. Old hatreds and suspicions bubbling to the surface. "Ah... Uchiha Miroru-san?" The currently white haired woman calls out voice warm if a touch hesitant.

"Greetings. I'm Azarea of Kumogakure no Sato. Your partner for this mission." She introduces herself while praying to whatever god was listening that Konohagakure no Sato hadn't decided to pawn off some genin's 'first kill' mission onto her rather then leaving their own shinobi to do the dirty work. Didn't the kid know this mission was going to be bloody? Probably not or she wouldn't have been so bright eyed as Azarea glances the girl over and hopes Miroru doesn't think they're just going to tie up the bandits. If so... Azarea would be getting her hands very very bloody attempting to keep the kids as clean as she was able.

"Yup! People tell me a lot they think I got adopted from the Uzumaki's or something, so I understand your apprehension, but I promise that's me!" Miroru chirped, undeterred by the pause and hesitation in Azarea's voice. "It's a pleasure to make your acquaintance, Azarea-san. We're to be in each other's care, so I'll make sure not to let you down!" She didn't give it a second thought, but having this obviously wet behind the ears genin address her on equal footing- that could rankle a bit, even if tempered by her determination not to slow Azarea down.

"Since we're still on home turf- well, mine, anyhow, sorry- should we feel safe discussing details here, do you think? Or should we hit the road and hash out tactics on the way? With our little team at half-strength," she said, comparing them to a full team of four, "I figure we'll need to discuss our strategies so we can know where to cover for each other. You wanna hit the road before we talk openly about that?" She tilted her head quizzically, still bright-eyed and unconcerned- at least on the surface- for the danger they'd be heading into.

"Just don't give up on me! We can figure this out!"

"In the midst of chaos..."

She's uncertain if she should be grateful for or saddened by Miroru mistaking her apprehension for the girl's appearance rather then the fate of the girl's mental state once all this is done. So instead Azarea keeps her smile warm and polite if a bit distant as she offers the girl and incline of her head. "I don't mind getting on the road. It's best to deal with Bandit's near the twilight hours or after dark. Though there's a chance they might do us the favor and come to us with a bit of prodding." She muses finishing her tea and leaving a few ryo on the table to pay for the mug as the woman rises from her seat and makes her way towards the door.

"Is this your first time taking a mission that involves permanently incapacitating the enemy?" The white haired woman inquired as the pair got on the road. The recent spring rains thankfully keeping the dust from kicking up around their heels as Azarea smiles a little soft, a little sad, at the mention of this land being 'Miroru's home.' Not that she can argue. She wouldn't trade Kaminari no Kuni for the world nowadays, but once upon a time her heart and been filled with the Will of Fire just as fiercely. Now something sharper lurked beneath her ribs. Wild and untamed like the distant land she'd come to call her home. There was no name for such a feeling, but she would describe it as 'indomitable.'

"And you needn't worry about our numbers. You'll find that while I am not a frontline fighter I'm quite good at evening the playing field when it comes to multiple opponents." She assures the younger girl with a pointed grin, the expression far truer and fitting more naturally upon her face. A spark of something feral to her silver gaze and the slightest glimmer of red to those pale orbs before between one blink and the next it's gone.

"Hm. Really? That's certainly a sound general tactic- is it especially applicable to bandits? Maybe cuz they're generally relatively undisciplined, and tend to relax a bit too much once they're not on the prowl?" Miroru asked, curious. It didn't carry any hints of second guessing, just skimming for information she could use later.

"First? Not exactly. I do try not to need to resort to lethal means, but at the end of the day, bandits have chosen to spend their time hurting people, robbing them, or worse. And there's also logistics to consider- if we just beat them up and wander off, there's not much to stop them from picking it all back up again besides the theoretical threat of a second beating. And if they're making enough money that it seems worth it, that might not even work." Miroru's tone conveyed a touch of sadness, but carried a faint, if present, edge of steel as well. She was firm about standing up for those in need, and her empathy for predatory criminals was limited.

"With only two of us, unless the bandits prove remarkably few in number, I can't help but think a peaceful resolution is likely beyond our capabilities. And I'm not willing to risk my well-being or yours on such a long shot. So most likely, aside from those we might be able to disable with genjutsu... I don't think the prognosis for the rest is very sunny."

"Ah! No worries, then. Let me take the front line. If you could focus on trimming down any of their ranged support, that'd be tremendously helpful- otherwise, we can lay down the front lines ASAP and move on the rear together. Does that sound reasonable?"

"Just don't give up on me! We can figure this out!"

"In the midst of chaos..."

The albino woman relaxes a touch reassured that Konoha wasn't sending her unblooded fresh meat to do the dirty work for them in getting Miroru wet behind the ears with her first kill. Her empathy doesn't bode well, but the steel in the girl's eyes and willingness is enough to reassure Azarea that the Uchiha won't flinch from taking killing blows. "Bandits aren't trained to work in darkness like we shinobi are. Their night vision isn't as sharp and when it gets dark they tend to compensate for it with fires and torches. Which will make their camp easier to search out by the light or the smell of smoke." The woman explained willing to share some of her own knowledge from missions past when she was just a little genin sent out to clear bandits.

"I'm a rather good tracker so it won't be difficult to trace them back to their camp. If we lay low and wait for them to bed down I can use a genjutsu to disable them and we can catch them unawares and clean out the nest. If they have ranged support I will take them out and leave the close range fighters to you." Azarea agrees seeing little reason to argue as she nods towards the side of the road signaling they should get into the trees.

"Do you know how to water and tree walk? It'd be easier for us to avoid notice if we take the tree highway." The woman suggested, which was odd. Not many outsiders were familiar with how Konoha shinobi tended to travel. Then again perhaps she'd visited Hi No Kuni and worked with them before.

"Ah! That makes sense! And those same fires and torches will make it far harder for them to see anything outside the light itself! Very clever indeed, Azarea-san- as expected of a seasoned Kumogakure kunoichi!" There was an odd cadence to how she said that- like she was repeating something the way she'd heard it on a radio show or something.

"Good, then! I'll let you lead the way for now as we locate their encampment, and when it's time to move in, I'll help disable as many as possible with Genjutsu before I take the front lines. I'll be relying on you to handle any ranged offense- I should be more than able to protect myself from the first shot or two, but extended ranged volleys turn into a roll of the dice." A realistic assessment of her skills. She could be extremely fast, and had excellent reflexes, but even so, the longer she fought, the more accustomed to her tactics any enemy would become.

"Ah- I'm afraid I don't," Miroru admitted, rubbing the back of her head. "I haven't- exactly- met up with my team lead yet, so I don't have a tutor for that until my mentor from the academy steps up into a team lead role. So I spent that time inventing a new Genjutsu instead!" She pronounced, proud of her achievement. "It's- only really useful against other shinobi, but it's super useful against them! And as for being unnoticed, I can trail behind you and rush forward on your signal. Like I said- I can be *really* fast. I don't think they'll be able to keep up at all."

"Very well then we'll go with that." Azarea agrees with a satisfied nod feeling more secure with a plan of action that would with luck keep both of them out of the worst of a disadvantageous combat. Anything that took away the bandit's safety in numbers was a good thing in her book. However as Miroru reveals she's not yet learned how to tree walk yet the pale haired woman can't help blinking in surprise. Traveling by trees was practically second nature to Konoha-nin as far she she had been raised, but then again if the girl was being neglected by her teachers and hadn't yet had a mentor assigned her inability to use the jutsu made a certain sort of sense.

"You know... we're not on any actual time schedule for this mission and it's hours yet to the border from here. Would you like to learn how to tree walk?" She offers with a kind smile, "You could practice it while we go and even without the technique hopping from branch to branch is good practice." Azarea adds as she leads them both up to a particularly large and sturdy looking fire country oak as she gestures up towards it's canopy. The tree itself not so different from the ones she's learned on when she was around Miroru's age. Before everything had gone wrong. If nothing else the girl's distraction would hopefully give her the chance to deploy her Kikaichu on the sly without notice.

"Alright then! I'll be awaiting your signal when the time comes, then, Azarea-san." Miroru paced along with the Kumo shinobi calmly, and tilted her head at the mention of the option to train. She tilted her head for a moment. "You sure? I'm definitely not going to turn down a chance to develop skills I'll need in the future, but I don't want to leave you feeling put upon or anything, you know?" She looped her hands behind her head and kept moving, eyeing the ground a bit. "You don't owe me anything besides your best efforts with the bandits. So... like, sure- but I know I'm not entitled to your time or lessons or anything, so it's really up to you."

She wanted every edge and lesson she could get, but at the same time, it felt awfully greedy to accept a lesson from another village's Shinobi that she just met. As much as she wanted to accept with no caveats, she felt like she needed to give Azarea a safe ticket out of the offer just in case she didn't really want to go through with it. So -that's exactly what she did. Gave her a no-questions-asked out, and waited for the answer.

"Just don't give up on me! We can figure this out!"

"In the midst of chaos..."

Azarea can't help letting out a soft amused snort, "Trust me Miroru-san we'll have a much better chance of ambushing those bandits from above. Fire country trees are hardy and thick and few people think to look up. It's not so different in Kaminari no Kuni." She explains as she gestures the girl over.

"Besides you look the sort to be a fast study." She adds giving the girl an assessing glance, "And even if you mess up you're limber enough you'll catch yourself on the branches. Traveling by the tree highway will save us a great deal of time."

"Now. Here's how it works." Azarea begins lifting her foot, "I'm sure your academy covered the leaf sticking exercise. Concentrate on the feel of your chakra within your core and thread some of it down to your legs and let it pool at the sole of your feet. Imagine your chakra forming little hooks or suckers. Sometimes even thinking of your chakra as a magnet and the tree as metal helps. Whatever mental image works best for you. Then stick your foot to the tree." She explains pressing the sole of her boot to the bark where it sticks before stepping up with her next foot and doing the same thing.

"When you want to walk you'll need to release the chakra in that foot to unstick it though as you get better you can sort of fluctuate your chakra to break cohesion. Too much chakra and your foot will be forced back away from the tree. Too little and you'll fail to get a proper grip." The Kumo Kunoichi explains as she slowly, but confidently strides up the tree stopping at about the halfway mark.

"I guess think of using your chakra to almost shake hands with the tree. If you have too much trouble with it we'll stick to the ground, but this technique might well save your life some day and for all we know that day might be today." Azarea quips offering Miroru an encouraging smile.

"Okay! I'll take your word for it! Let's see how this goes! The start of the Justice Scout's arboreal division! Shuriken from the sky like leaves from the trees!" Miroru pronounced, pumping her fist confidently. "Lay it on me, Azarea-senpai!"

She proved... a startlingly quick learner and an excellent listener. For all her energy, it didn't get in the way of her focus or attention- rather, it seemed to fuel it, pushing her to explore her curiosities about the subject matter and often discover details before they had been deliberately laid out. "So from what you're saying, I should sorta twist the Raippo technique- that's a technique to go super quickly!- but instead of using the chakra in my legs to amplify their movements, focus it in the soles of my feet. It sounds like I should start low and ramp up until my feet stick- starting too high would just eject me from the tree, right? Though I bet that could be useful- the Konoha Tree Rocket Technique!"

She really was paying attention, though, and in short order was already trying it on her own, holding her staff out to the side and running at trees to try to sprint up their trunks- and for the most part, flopping down again and again. She wasn't discouraged, and kept trying, kept fine-tuning the specific... frequency? That would keep her foot on the bark!

"Just don't give up on me! We can figure this out!"

"In the midst of chaos..."

By this point Azarea had found a branch to settle down on. The woman perched there as casually as can be like a particularly large cat as she watches her makeshift student try out the technique. Her eyes sharp to see where Miroru was having difficulty. "That's right. You thread your charka down into your legs to the soles of your feet like you would your other technique, but instead of using the chakra to super power your muscles you use it like glue to stick to the tree. A lot of shinobi when they need to leap a ways overcharge the technique to let them launch off branches, but that can take a bit of practice." She explains her tone patient and coaxing as she watches the little... honestly hard to believe, Uchiha rambunctiously attack the tree with everything she had.

"There you go! Come on! I think I saw your foot stick there for a second. You can make it Miroru-san!" Azarea cheers her on and uses the girls distraction as a chance to slowly deploy her hive. The bugs filtering down her jacket and out of her coat to subtly spread out amongst the foliage where they could follow them and help scout at a distance.

"I take it your raiton natured. Then the mental image of using your chakra like little hooks to stick to the tree might work well for you." She calls out her advise hopping over to another branch as she hangs upside down to peer at the girl all topsy turvey.

"Sides imagine the look on your instructor and teammates faces when you tell them you already know how to tree walk." The Kumo-shinobi teases knowing that sometimes the most satisfying motivation is the surprise of others.

Miroru stood and thought about things for a moment. "I know when I use Raippo, it's like- an expression of Chakra? Not like "ahaha I am expressing my feelings" but expression as in a release? And Raiton is, after all, a current... maybe if... instead of pushing it down and out and up, I tried sending it down and in and up?" Miroru wondered aloud before giving it another try. The idea had merit. The current would now pass over her foot and pull up on the inside, like a suction cup. It was all just mental imagery to help create the desired effect, after all.

Well.

That and a thespian smokescreen to hide the release of creepy, crawly bugs into the woods.

Miroru would appreciate that smokescreen if she knew what it was hiding.

"Yeah! I love that look. I like being surprising. Come outta left field, where they least expect it, whip out some whacky technique in a way they weren't expecting it? It's way more fun to win because you were tricky and clever, and not just stronger or more experienced! Beating the odds, you know? That's totally my favorite. How do you like to win, Azarea-san?" Miroru asked as she put her new theories to the test.

"Just don't give up on me! We can figure this out!"

"In the midst of chaos..."

Azarea beamed down at the girl in encouragement her bugs finally fully deployed as the woman hopped across the branches into another tree. Leading Miroru along like that where the girl could test the technique on each new truck and either scale it and succeed or slide down and need to try again on the next tree. The ex-Aburame allowing the Uchiha some time to muddle through seeing as the girl was making good progress and at a certain point too much help like overwatering a plant could be detrimental. Though she does give Miroru's question some quiet thought.

"I'll admit when I was younger I'd have told you that winning outright with devastating skill or cleverness was the best, but nowadays I don't really mind the methods so long as I win. Though I supposed I'd much rather be known as a clever fighter then just some brute that's more brawn then brains." The woman agrees with a soft chuckle as the dadylight slowly faded around them to the twilight hours of sunset and soon to the darkness of night. Something that might worry civilians, but would work in the pairs favor as Azarea's Kikaichu alerted her to the fact they smelled campfire smoke. The woman carefully leading the two of them in that direction till her eyes could pick up the distant pinprick of light through the trees, but not so close they might risk being overheard.

A mutated variant of the Aburame clans Yūdai no Omorejō ["Bewildering Grandeur of the Alpha"] resulting from the subsequent poisoning of Azarea's former Yūdai no Omorejō hive to prevent potential hijutsu theft. While the Joō no Taikanshiki no Regaria lacks the Yūdai no Omorejō size instead Azarea's hive has maintained the ability to produce alpha pheromones and commanding vibrations. Evolving instead to hyperspecialize in these two aspects allowing them to produce pheramones and vibrations strong enough to be detected by human hearing and sense of smell.
