Her haymaker missed—of course it did, it was a whiff from the start and Sadako knew that. The abject humiliation of being dodged so casually, of being knocked over into the dirt like a slow, weak child, made her blood boil. But even that was tempered by her own exhaustion. She’d hit her limit. No matter how much pain she could tolerate in the safe confines of her mind, her body was still a thing of flesh and bone and human limitation, and she could only push it so far. Sadako coughed violently, spitting out another mouthful of blood into the ring. She pushed herself up, but couldn’t get any farther than her hands and knees, her ears ringing as she desperately tried to stay conscious through the black spots swimming in her vision. The other girl was talking, but she sounded muffled, like she was talking to Sadako through three feet of water. The girl kneeled down in front of her, baby blue eyes and garish orange ensemble taking up all of Sadako’s field of view. You really gonna drop like this? Sadako spat again, a glob of phlegm and blood onto the Iwa-nin’s shoes. In front… in front… in front of your parents? Weak… Brief, razor-sharp clarity: Sadako’s mind went smooth and blank, utterly overpowered by a rage so all-consuming that her insides felt like they were caught in an inferno. Between one moment and the next, the silhouette of Sadako’s body went up in a flare of yellow chakra so intense that it nearly looked like flame. "You killed them,” she said, heaving, barely coherent. "YOU KILLED THEM!” She lunged forward from the ground with gnashing teeth, clawing desperately at Taki’s legs, trying to bite her ankles and rip out her tendons—but this would be the last of what she had to offer, and just as soon as Sadako’s fire flared up, it sputtered out. She collapsed, unconscious, just as the timer began to ring. [exit.]
