One might ask themselves; how did Kumori ever get to tutor a fighting entropy like Kyōka? What wretched fate was that? Well, the answer might not surprise you – it was during a time of rising fear, suspension, mistrust and bubbling unrest leading up to one of the bloodiest incident in the country’s history… but the story began earlier than that. About… say, 15 years earlier. Let’s go back in time and revisit that… pleasant memory, shall we? … … … Kumori was not a fan of conflict, bloodshed and skirmishes- -happening in his country, that was. He had spent over 15 years outside of the Land of Water, killing and avoiding getting killed for the sake of his village. He had secured many of the village’s interest internationally, both with the help of allied- no, temporarily allied shinobi – and the Suiryū Butai, but people weren’t the most grateful nowadays. When he returned to the Mist, he wasn’t exactly given the most applauded hero’s praise and welcome that he expected… people had gotten weary of the Second Mizukage’s antics, instead. As if they had the right… … But that was over 5 years ago. Kumori had moved on, and he had become a Jōnin through and through. His efforts outside of the Land of Water had even granted him a title – Kiri no Ekiki – the Demonic Plague of the Mist. The Miasma of the Mist. It was the optimal title for a functional member of the Shouki clan, really – and they weren’t that far off naming him a demonic plague… more like a demonic mist, really. One could say that it was the description of his clan’s poisonous gases. With his new title and honed skills, the Mizukage had assigned him and other Jōnins to scout the Land of Water in its entirety. A country-wide adventure, a national road trip, many words people could describe it as, but it was a hefty duty to bear – the conflicts appearing all over the map beckoned the Mizukage to send his troops to every corner of the country, both to kill the flames of conflict and to gather intel regarding the Daimyō. Tough times foreboding, Kumori needed to gather a team… And the last member was going to be tested today, inside of this forest of thorny woods. Kumori had brought her here on foot. Told her to prepare for battle before they ventured towards this area away from the village Kashiwa, which was located at the very edge to the forest. Kumori was wearing his Hidden Mist uniform, coming off as just another +Chūnin from the eyes of the unaware. His black hair was tied in a single ponytail, resting down his neck all the way to the center of his back. Most notable about him were three things – the scar across his face, the crystal-white feather he carried around his left wrist like an amulet, and the sheathed ōdachi strapped to his back. He knew a little about his next candidate, Hōzuki Getsuyū. From what he had gathered on their way here, from when they first met all the way back at the village, she was… hmh… mischievous. He could tell by the look on her face, but why that was… was left a mystery. It left things in the air, but that was nothing to be worried about – if anything, it brought him quite the promise of a peculiarly interesting Genin under his wing. Appearance & Uniform And now, having reached deep enough into the forest so that no civilization could be sensed nearby, Kumori finally braked in his tracks and turned around to face Getsuyū. His voice was jaded, a little weary but deep and formal as well. "I take it you know how tense the situation is outside of Kirigakure... case and point, I’m going to lead a team of three, promising Genin to travel with me across the country. You’re one of them... granted you pass this test of mine,” he revealed to her, stretching his arms out to display the woods circling around them both. "Kuro Matsubayashi. We’re going to engage in combat here, inside of these woods... you remember what the villagers told us earlier, right?” The warning that every traveler received upon reaching this forest: Do not eat the fish. Do not follow the lanterns. Do not stay more than one week. Do not lose your company. Do not linger or the animals might find you. He quickly picked up and wiggled a pair of bells in front of her, "You’re more than welcome to try and kill me. Although, all you really need to pass my test are these bells in your hands...” He quickly wrapped the thread of the bells on the edge of his belt and continued, "... Or simply hide somewhere and wait for a day to pass. You’re not allowed to exit the forest – I’ll personally make sure you don’t get the chance.” It was rather intense; leaving his view meant that she’d lose her company, which was such a bad omen here. And leaving the forest was prohibited, so she’d be forced to spend her time here, surrounded by warnings of danger. Thankfully, the test only lasted for 24 hours or until she got her hands on the bells, so she wouldn’t lose her mind... right? "My friend, Hōzuki Yūchin, speaks highly of you. I’d like to be impressed, myself… go on. Take your first shot.” WC: 904 SAs possessed by Kumori in this time: Shouki Clan Hijutsu - Dokuyoke Master Kumori possesses his clan’s secret ability to store, produce and release deadly poisons from his own body thanks to the ritual of Dokuyoke. Said ritual has also granted its clan members an uncanny resistance to local poisons and toxins found all over the Land of Water - however, with the decades that Kumori has had to practice their craft, he’s become a master of the offensive Dokuyoke – both in the secret but simple Taijutsu that takes advantage of the release of poisons, and also in the regards of being able to mold and create forms from the poisons released. Only a master who’s had decades to train the clan’s Hijutsu is able to utilize the poisons with this much efficiency and creativity. Medical Training Kumori was taught practical, medical skills from a young age – this was to honor his clan’s past as medical experts before the ritual of Dokuyoke changed them forever. His in-depth understanding of human anatomy grants him the ability to treat his own wounds as well as the wounds of others with minimal effort despite the lack of Medical Jutsu in his arsenal. When it comes to surgeries, then he’s confident and very experienced in cutting open as well as patching up human bodies for various purposes. This has definitely flourished during the trials that he witnessed in his clan… and despite his distancing from them, their books and notes did grant him a deeper understanding of human and animal biomechanism. Kumori is able to use this knowledge in combat as well, capable of easily identifying weak spots on the foe's body where critical organs or blood vessels (arteries, capillaries etc.) are located, thus targeting them for the most optimal killing chance. Medical knowledge isn't solely for healing the body, in the end... not in the hands of a shinobi. Jack-Of-All-Blades (Bukijutsu Expert) Kumori seems to just know his way around any sort of weapon that he’s handed. Whether they be a sword, spear, bow, kunai, shuriken, kama, axe, club, staff, chain, knuckle-dusters, metal claws or even blowguns – of any shape and any size – when he wields and utilizes such any weapon, he does so with nigh unmatched skill. He may still have his preferences, but give him any weapon and he’ll kill with style. Enhanced Hearing As a result of his tracking missions back when he wanted to become a member of the Oinin Butai, Kumori developed a sharp and unnatural sense of hearing. He usually carries special Ear Protection plugs with him if enemies want to take advantage of this trait, but when freed of those, his ears can catch and distinguish sounds and their sources from long distances. He’s able to recognize usually muffled sounds with ease; the sound of a person’s heart beating slow or fast, the sound of insects crawling on the muddy ground, the sound of a hiding shinobi’s breathing etc. |
