Mountain Patrol

Mountain Patrols were always tricky business and though a routine c-rank there was a certain level of trust and skill required to take on such missions given how dangerous and jagged Kaminari-no-Kuni's mountain ranges were and their deadly weather patterns. Honestly of all the patrol missions Azarea was certain those shinobi who'd passed her the scroll envied her and her partner the least. Hi no Kuni had forests and bugs, and other issues, but Kaminari-no-Kuni had lighting and torrential downpours and with the seasons changing the storms would only be worse.

Yet Azarea found her prospects undampened if only because unlike many shinobi who'd run such mission prior she had a secret weapon she had to admit she was excited to show off to Shigure. The prospect of actually entertaining or even impressing another shinobi with her skills an old sensation she'd nearly forgotten when she'd struggled for so long just to be 'passingly' decent with her health. Now shifting lightly on her feet as she tightened her grip on her mission pack she couldn't help, but grin the moment her Kikaichu alerted her that the Hyuuga was approaching.

"Ready for a few days out in Kaminari-no-Kuni's beautiful mountain ranges?" She called out to her partner with a wave. A few of the shinobi passing by the gates shooting her a look like she was off her rocker to be so cheerful at such prospects.

TO THE VALLEY OF LIGHTNING The reason why Shigure had went to the Land of Lightning was to help the Hidden Cloud Shinobi with some missions that would provide important aid to them, as well as bolster the teamwork and friendship between the villages. This first mission involved a super patrol over the mountain regions surrounding the Valley of Lightning. The two shinobi selected to perform this mission were Azarea and Shigure, as they had already worked together in a few missions, and their abilities were quite fitting for it. Shigure was a tracking specialist, so finding hiding criminals was within the scope of his abilities. Shigure saw Azarea in the distance and waved for her, giving her a large smile. "Quite looking forward to it. I never truly explored the Valley of Lightning, but I have heard of its marvels." he said with quite the enthusiasm in his tone. As they left the village, Shigure would double check the map he had in one of his flak jacket's pocket. "So... We should be there in a couple hours? And from the looks of it, this mission will take around a week? Is that correct?" he asked his friend; being basically a local, she would be able to better answer his questions, and he preferred it rather than to rely on his own theoretical hypothesis. "So what if it seems hopeless? If it were me, I still wouldn't give up. Embrace your dreams. And, whatever happens, protect your honour as a Shinobi, for the price of freedom is steep." Off The Beaten Path

Glancing over Shigure's shoulder as they walked Azarea eyed the map her brows furrowed in thought as she double checked the path laid out for them with the one she knew they were meant to be taking before confirming they were one and the same. The woman pulling out her own map as she points to the markers on it. "Actually I think we can complete it in four, maybe five days depending on the weather. Typically the reason such missions take so long is the terrain in this area is incredibly rough so there's nowhere to make camp. So you either have to push hard to get to the next decent spot and run a full twenty-four hours between spots then spend a day resting or wait out the weather if it's truly horrendous." She explains with a small decisive nod as the two of them begin to veer from the path up what could be charitably called a goat trail at best.

"But that won't be an issue for us as with my hijutsu I have a way to make a fairly comfortable camp nearly anywhere." Azarea adds with a fanged grin as she begins dispersing her Kikaichu allowing the insects to spread out and enjoy the scenery as much as alert her to any danger or oddity they might find. "Mostly we'll be looking for any bandit hideouts to cripple, criminals to put to an end, and dealing with some of our wilder clans that can sometimes get a bit rowdy. The most difficult part of the mission is a great deal of it is straight up and down." Azarea explains with a chuckle as she channels chakra to her feet to stick to the rapidly dwindling trail as they head up into the sheer peaks surrounding the village.

Joō no Taikanshiki no Regaria [Queen's Coronation Regalia]

A mutated variant of the Aburame clans Yūdai no Omorejō ["Bewildering Grandeur of the Alpha"] resulting from the subsequent poisoning of Azarea's former Yūdai no Omorejō hive to prevent potential hijutsu theft. While the Joō no Taikanshiki no Regaria lacks the Yūdai no Omorejō size instead Azarea's hive has maintained the ability to produce alpha pheromones and commanding vibrations. Evolving instead to hyperspecialize in these two aspects allowing them to produce pheramones and vibrations strong enough to be detected by human hearing and sense of smell.

That makes sense." he agreed as he finishing studying the map and put it back inside the pocket of his flak jacket. They would have to be mindful of the weather as it could prove a big challenge considering the terrain they had to cover, but it was reassuring that the kikaichu could help them camp even in placed where they normally wouldn't be able to, so they could more likely than not finish this mission in less than a week. Azarea also pointed out to the main source of problems they would be dealing with: bandits hideouts, and clan members who could cause some trouble. She also seemed a bit concerned with the up and down from the mountain, but that was less of a concern for him, being quite used to extensive physical activities. "Please let me know when you start getting tired, I want us to be close to our peak condition as much as possible." he asked her. The two would use their chakra to more easily climb the mountainous terrain; being a shinobi was quite the advantage in these situations, and once they were high up enough, Shigure would start using his Byakugan to scout the area of four kilometres around them, trying to look into every nook and cranny to find potential threats to the Hidden Cloud Village. At least for the first half a day, he didn't find anything of concern, which was a good start for their mission. "So what if it seems hopeless? If it were me, I still wouldn't give up. "I should be able to manage so long as we take the nights to rest. I'm not quite up to a full twenty-four hour death march just yet." She admits, but is proud her nearly non-stop work in Hi no Kuni has sharpened her physical fitness back up to this level at once. Her chakra control allowing her to minimize some of the waste as the two navigated up the various cliffs and mountains. Reaching the colder thinner air of one of the peaks. Azarea glancing towards Shigure, but the Hyuuga gave no indication of trouble. Nor did her hive pick up on any odd scents or strange disturbances. Nothing more then the scents of fall and changing foliage as summer gave way to fall.

The first real issue the pair would encounter would be later near evening. As they crested a craggy ridge a road could be seen below threading through the foothills and narrow valley gulley. The path having been partially washed out by rain and the rocky earth above it looking ready to give way at any moment. "We should probably go ahead and trigger that landslide before some merchant comes through and get's caught it in. We can mark it on the map and alert the Daimyo the road needs repair if they don't contract us to go out and do it." Azarea suggests as she glances towards Shigure to see his opinion on the matter. Feeling a bit ashamed at the sight. It was clear Kaminari-no-Kuni had let the maintenance of this area slip, but like the paths to Kumogakure no Sato this wasn't the shinobi villages jurisdiction.

"Better they lose a few days turning around and finding another route then lose their lives." She mutters, but there's quiet sorrow and resentment to her words at the sight as she mourns she's not yet skilled enough to simply fix the issue with doton.

ROAD HAZARD NULLIFIED "Sure, we will set up camp at night and continue in the morning." he responded as they continued to progress through their scouting of the area, looking for any signs of trouble. Things remained rather uneventful until the early evening, where they arrived at a point near a road where the path had been partially washed out by the rain. There were a few rocks above that looked like they were about to fall at any second. Azarea suggested triggering the landslide, but Shigure had a better idea on what to do. "I will take care of those rocks, so they are no longer a thread and they also don't damage the road down there. Back away a bit and give me a moment." he said as he readied his right palm. Dashing forward, he would get very close to the rock and push his palm forward, shooting an extremely powerful wave of chakra towards the lose rocks, so powerful it basically pulverized it. "Hakke Hasangeki!" he roared as his Gentle Fist attack took care of the potential road hazard, thus making sure that the portion of the road would remain safe for the travellers and merchants. "There you go. Problem solved." he said, turning around to give her a thumbs-up. Still, he could understand why she would be looking sad. The country had seen better days, and even though it was improving, they were still at least a few years from getting fully back on their feet. Hopefully, that would happen sooner rather than later with the help of the Leaf and other allied nations. The two would continue travelling for the day, until it was finally time to call it a night and rest, so they could continue the next day. "I can take first watch. I can see well in the dark." he explained, as they found a place which was plane enough for them to set up camp. "So what if it seems hopeless? If it were me, I still wouldn't give up. It is advised to be used in rocky terrains so the enemy can be send flying to one of the rocks and cause much more damage.

Eyes widening Azarea watched as Shigure threw himself at the rocks or perhaps it would be better to describe him throwing his chakra at them as he turned the one dangerous boulders where they'd been perched to nothing, but dust. Leaving just the already present, but navigable water damage to the path below. Some of the tension bleeding from her shoulders as she offered Shigure a grateful smile. "Thank you. Repair teams seem to be back logged with all the recent summer storms so there was no telling when they'd get to this little stretch of road. Probably never unless some village on the other end contracted Kumo to do the repair instead." She admitted, but with the state of things even that was questionable. Hopefully the festival would bring in some much needed funds. The land of Lightning was rich, but she wouldn't be lying if she said the Daimyo was a man of greed in his old age.

Carrying on the pair reached the nearest and first of the designated camping spots. A little blind alcove carved into the mountain where the overhang was just wide enough for a small group to shelter from the worst of the rain, but hardly stay dry. However instead of moving to set up a tent or other shelter Azarea eyed the area with distaste and set about her own work. The woman collecting a larger flat rock big enough to start a fire on with a tin can stove. Then climbing up the wall with chakra she began to spin... A chitinous web like fabric pouring from her wrists and fingers as she knit a large cocoon like tent attached to the overhang ceiling like a makeshift hammock carefully hidden among the stone. Before grabbing her flat rock and setting it on the floor of her makeshift hanging bungalow and forming a door flap they could open and close with a small ventilation hole near the top to leak the exhaust should they choose to make a small near smokeless fire. The structure certainly warmer and more secure then a night sleeping on hard rocks in the cold and rain.

"Like our new home for the night?" Azarea quipped standing proud hands on her hips and eyes glinting with mirth. Confident in her knowledge that Shigure's reaction to her hijutsu would be anything other then disgust. "I can make us sleeping bags too." She adds beaming.

As with the distant sound of thunder echoing from the north Shigure would learn his first lesson about Kaminari-no-Kuni... storms were inevitable.

DETECTION There was a sense of satisfcation coming from the fact that he was able to help the Hidden Cloud and the Land of Lightning by preventing a potential accident; they were already struggling enough as is, and this was - in a way - part of their mission, making sure the Valley of Lightning remained safe, and safety went beyond just getting rid of bandits and problematic clan members. "It's my pleasure to be of assistance. Our goal here is to make sure the valley is safe, and this is part of it." he responded as the two continued to travel around the place, his Byakugan scouting for any other issues, but seemed like that would be it for the night. The two arrived at the campsite and set up their own camp. Azarea got started on the cocoon like thing, while Shigure took care of their food; he had prepared some travel food, and just needed to warm it up and they would be good for the night. Some simple ramen noodles. When asked about the home for the night, he chuckled and nodded, offering her a bowl of food. "It's fancier than I'm used to. Here, get some food." he said, before clapping his hands together. "Itadakimasu!" he thanked for the meal before devouring it rather quickly. When Azarea offered some sleeping bags, he nodded in agreement. "That would be great, it seems like it's going to rain." he said as he observed the skies. After the night of rest, the two would wake up the other day, clear up camp and continue their journey. In the distance, that next morning, Shigure spotted something. "Northwest, one thousand and sixty seven metres, a caravan is being stalked by a group of three suspicious individuals. They have weapons with them." he warned the Aburame. "So what if it seems hopeless? If it were me, I still wouldn't give up. Embrace your dreams. And, whatever happens, protect your honour as a Shinobi, for the price of freedom is steep." Accepting the bowl of noodles with a smile Azarea settled down beside Shigure as the two watch the evening storm roll in with the night. Hot food and a dry safe bed rare pleasures while out in the wild, but here they were with both. Leaving Azarea smirking rather smugly knowing that countless nin had sat where they sat and bemoaned the coming rain and poor conditions while she and Shigure were living it up. Truthfully the two probably could have traveled anywhere in the world with their combination of jutsu and been just as happy. As finishing their food the pair of nin scrambled up into the cocoon to hide from the chilly pouring rain. Their makeshift house swaying a little in the fierce winds, but dry as a bone as Azarea spun them both a set of sleeping bags her Kikaichu humming with pride at the appreciation of their work.

And when the temperature took a sharp dip and the chill crept in with the night it was easy for her to set up the little tin can furnace on the rock. The tiny flame just enough heat to warm the cozy inside of their tent hammock making for an excellent nights sleep for them both. The morning dawning bright and early and clear as the sun crested the horizon painting the beautiful deep valleys in gold. A breath taking sight as the Aburame tore down her tent carefully discarding the web like cocoon outside the alcove where weather and time would break it down before she moved to join Shigure. The two of them wouldn't be on the road long before they spotted trouble.

"Let's see if we can get closer. If so my Kikaichu can burrow under them and drop them into the earth for easy pickings and anyone that isn't caught should be flat footed enough you'll have the advantage." Azarea suggests as the two slink down into the valley tailing their prey even as the bandits stalk their own. Azarea concentrating for a moment as she sent her insects tunneling down her brow furrowed in concentration, before with the crack of dirt and stone the bugs burst up trying to drag the three men down into the makeshift holes.

DESCRIPTION:
This technique can only be utilized by those with bugs capable of both aerial and underground movement.
By allowing a swarm of bugs to submerge into the ground, the user is able to maneuver and place them beneath an opponent as a trap. Once placed, the bugs can then rapidly emerge from underneath the opponent, consuming the ground beneath them and rising up to surround them.
The combination and suddenness is enough to cause an opponent to lose their balance with the ground under them suddenly disappearing while allowing the bugs to grasp onto the target and drain them.
While the rate at which the bugs are able to dig is dependent on the bug, this jutsu can also speed up their digging capability depending on the cost.

INTERCEPTION The people there were clearly up to no good, and after he pointed them out, the Hyuuga - using his Byakugan - guided them into pursuit so they could intercept the bandits before they could cause any harm to the travellers down there. He nodded at Azarea's plan, as it looked efficient enough, and also removed the need of open combat, thus saving their energy in case they had a more demanding battle ahead; he was thinking of the potential users of Storm Release they may run into. Once they were close enough, the kikaichu would make their way towards the targets from underground and then entrap the men into the makeshift holes, prompting them to scream in shock and desperation. With three kunais ready, Shigure would throw them at the back of their neck, claiming their lives. They were bandits, and perhaps they should be arrested, but considering the state of the Land of Lightning, they couldn't really afford to have a high prison population, and people like that, preying upon the weak, they inspired very little mercy on the Hyuuga. They managed to intercept the bandits before they could cause harm, and the travellers continued their merry way without even noticing they were almost attacked by them. "Good, this is taken care of. Let's move on." he said with a firm nod, continuing their travel across the Valley of Lightning. "So what if it seems hopeless? If it were me, I still wouldn't give up. Embrace your dreams. And, whatever happens, protect your honour as a Shinobi, for the price of freedom is steep." Storm On The Horizon

The kunai to the back of the necks was certainly far more merciful then what might have awaited them had they been left solely to Azarea's insects. The ex-Aburame simply allowing nature to take it's course as she covered up the holes and none would have been the wiser to what lay beneath. Not that the Bandit's bodies lasted long. Her Kikaichu that had remained behind swiftly catching up with the two of them as they traveled onwards. The next two days would fall into a similar pattern. The two making camp for the night in whatever little nest among the rocks Azarea spun up for them with Shigure heating their food with katon chakra. The two adapting to their almost nomadic existence with surprising ease, but as they traveled deeper the storms gradually grew worse.

And the lightning they could see in the distance was most certainly not just from the passing weather, "We'll need to be careful from here on out. We're in one of the areas the Ryujin tend to roam and it's not uncommon for them to attack Kumogakure patrols when bored or in order to find strong Kunouchi and Shinobi to marry into the clan." Azarea cautioned her Kikaichu spanning out in the furthest patrol net she could manage to help supplement Shigure's eyes.

"Our best bet would be to avoid them unless they're actively causing trouble or harassing some caravan which... they sometimes do to draw out our Shinobi for the same aforementioned reasons." She adds with an exasperated sigh, "I've never dealt with them myself as I couldn't leave Kumo before and those that visited Riku-Sensei kept well and far away from me so I'm afraid my knowledge of them is rather limited beyond what I've heard from others in passing." She explains with a shake of her head, "We absolutely do not want to kill any of them though. I'm sure the clan wouldn't care so much, but it'd look bad and we don't want to dwindle any of our numbers."

"two meets four". "No matter how many people you may lose, you have no choice but to go on living." RYUJIN "The weather can get pretty nasty around these parts, eh? It's quite the contrast when compared to the Land of Fire." he was quite surprised with just how often thunderstorms took place in the Valley of Lightning, but that was not the most concerning part of it; apparently the rogue Ryujin roamed around the part of the valley they were heading towards and they were able to use not only ninjutsu, but a powerful kekkei genkai, so Shigure needed to keep his Byakugan at constant watch. "Why don't they just fully ally themselves with the village? I don't get why they would choose this life." he grumbled, in a more grumpy tone than usual; the pouring storm was getting him a bit more on the edge. They also couldn't kill them, which gave them quite the handicap in a fight, especially considering they were strong, but luckily the Gentle Fist was good at incapacitating people, and Shigure had become precise enough to be able to avoid a lethal blow if he chose to do so. As they continued to venture through the storm, he would eventually find something a few kilometres to the west, and that was exactly what they had been talking about, and yes, they were causing trouble. "I believe I found one of your Ryujin folks... Three kilometres to the west, there are only one of them, but seems like she is heading towards some merchants whose cart got stuck in the mud. We need to hurry up." he said, his tone showing the sense urgency he was feeling. "So what if it seems hopeless? If it were me, I still wouldn't give up. Embrace your dreams. "They are and they aren't. Just... know if we kill them it won't be any different then killing an allied clan. I don't know what deal they cut, but just roll with it please." Azarea couldn't help, but groan out. The Ryujin were a bad match up for her given her doton nature, but at least she could slow them down and impair them to make Shigure's job easier. As the two put on the speed to intercept the Ryujin woman as the sky opened up and down came the rain. The downpour soaking their hair and clothes and were it not for her Kikaichu and Shigure's eyes Azarea had little doubt the two would be nearly blind in the terrible weather. Luckily it meant the Ryujin also was having some difficulties as the two cut across her path skidding to a stop in the mud. Azarea hated losing the element of surprise, but proper protocol needed to be followed here.

"STOP! In the name of Kumogakure no Sato and the Hachidame Raikage you are ORDERED TO CEASE AND DESIST!" Azarea roared out fangs bared as the woman barreled towards them. The Ryujin giving no indication she had heard as the ex-Aburame held up a seal and as the Ryujin woman's eyes glanced up at it she let out an awful feral scream falling back clawing at her face blind as the day she was born.

"Get her Shigure!" Azarea called out as she leapt back to make room for him readying her next jutsu as she glanced towards a downed tree stump in case the Ryujin decided that if she couldn't see to hit her then she'd just hit everything.

This technique exerts a hallucinatory effect upon the eyesight, effectively blinding the opponent. No matter how skilled an opponent may be, they are forced to wait helpless in this world of darkness, as this technique allows the user to attack unseen [unable to kai]. Although it negates sight, it does not stop the other senses. It should be noted that this technique, unlike some other genjutsu can no be broken through with doujutsu. Due to the nature of the technique in which it prevents the brain from registering data transmitted from the eye, it makes the previously mentioned doujutsu useless.

After performing the necessary hand seals (one post prior to the technique's use) and locating a nearby object within a 10 meter radius (typically a log or something of similar size to their body.), the user switches places with the said object just before an attack lands, creating an optical illusion. During the small interval where they have left their opponent surprised, they may take the time to attack or flee.

"No matter how many people you may lose, you have no choice but to go on living." 64 PALMS Seemed like they had cut some sort of weird deal with the Hidden Cloud, perhaps under duress given their circumstances, but there was no point in thinking too hard about it, they just had to roll with it and make sure the woman was stopped, but not killed or severely injured. It's my chance!" he thought to himself, moving like a blur, so fast that it would be almost impossible for Azarea to even follow with her eyes. "Hakke Rokujuuyon shou!!" he said once he got in range, and then, Shigure started the onslaught of tenketsu strikes on the Ryujin woman, who had been debilitated by the Bringer of Darkness Technique. "Ni shou, yon shou, hasshou, juuroku shou, sanjuuni shou, rokujuuyon shou!!!" with every set, the technique became faster and more violent, and in a moment, the main sixty-four tenketsus of the Ryujin, completely incapacitating them from using chakra, and also from moving due to the internal damaged caused. "This is over. Are you people okay?" he asked the travellers and they nodded, before rushing to leave the area. Shigure would then turn back to Azarea. "They will be fine, they should recover the use of their chakra by the end of the day, or tomorrow at the latest." he explained to Azarea, as she wouldn't be entirely familiar on how his technique used. As the Ryujin crumpled unconscious Azarea let out a soft breath relaxing her stance slightly as she padded through the mud lifting the woman up and slinging her over her shoulder so she didn't drown in the pouring rain. "Well the good news is she didn't get a decent look at your face so you probably won't be hunted down and proposed to." Azrea quips with a playful smirk as she watches ensuring the merchants get unstuck from the muck. By now both her and Shigure were soaked to the bone and the storm didn't seem likely to let up any time soon.

"Come on. I'll spin a cocoon to stick her up a tree so she doesn't drown if this area floods and we can get up out of this valley and find an over hang to set camp beneath." She suggests and proceeds to do just that as she channels chakra to her feet and strides up the tallest tree she can find to cocoon the woman to the trunk. Satisfied that while she'll have an unpleasant night she won't be dead. Before padding her way back down and giving her partner an approving and reassuring pat to the shoulder nudges him up into the rocks. Lightning flashing around them and thunder roaring with a deafening boom as Azarea dug her fingers into Shigures belt tie trusting the Hyuuga to spot them a shelter however small where she could work.
