Dynamic Duo

Wahei was not used to his regular chunin activities yet, like being assigned to missions that not involve, how to put it, well, ilegal activities. Though, the influence and network he grow because of such enterprise was make him well known for some infiltrations and to act as double agent.

This time, though, things would be quite tough. He had come up with a plan to capture some smuglers and received the approval to jump into it under the surveillance of a sp. jonin. No problem for him, but his mission and whole plan were put at risk because the assigned member had another emergercy call to attend to.

In order to not waste all the effort and INTEL he has worked so hard on, Wahei asked to find a substitute for the jonin position. And well, hopefully there was someone just perfect in mind.

- Good morning, Satoshi-san. I need to talk to Shigure, please. - he took a scroll from his chunin olive vest - Call of duty this time. - he smiled at the regular gate guardian of the Hyuga district. Eventually when he got to Shigure, he'd promptly say - The dynamic duo is back in town, my friend! - he said quite enthusiastically. Though, they'd still have to catch things up.

"From the very moment we're thrown into this world, we're fated to bring each other nothing but pain, suffering and misery. I was also blindly obsessed with a trivial and irrational need for vengeance. But I was left behind. Alone. Forgotten. Abandoned. Forsaken. But now, the fog has been truly lifted. One can never run from its ghosts. And that’s exactly all that I am. A lost memory. An undying shadow, in this world of light. From now on, I’ll have to live up to this semi-charmed kind of life. Regardless of this phantom pain. This is my fate. This is my Destiny. It’s not the light which will guide us through the darkness, but the darkness that shall guide us through the light. Never forget. Always remember."

AGAIN?!

The man at the gates of the Hyuuga District already knew Wahei all too well at this point, and when he showed him the scroll, he nodded at him. "Sure. Shigure-sama is finishing his morning training. I will fetch him for you. Feel free to walk around the courtyard while you wait." he said with a small bow before heading deep into the Hyuuga District. After around fifteen minutes, the two Hyuuga would come walking towards Wahei. Satoshi would go back to the gate, and Shigure would wave to his friend, who promptly greeted him, making Shigure chuckle. "Indeed. It has been a while. Although... I'm surprised I've been assigned a mission. They told me I would get a couple days off, since I just returned from one." he admitted, scratching the back of his head before shrugging. "Bah! Doesn't matter! I'm looking forward going on a mission with you, Mister Chuunin! Hehehe!" he said, teasing Wahei with a playful wink before grabbing the scroll and reading the briefing.

"Again?! Those assholes keep on causing trouble in port city. Not too long ago I took down some drug dealers there. Oh well... On the bright side, I know the place like the back of my hand. We should be able to get there in two days, if we keep up a decent pace. Are you good to travel?" he asked Wahei.

"So what if it seems hopeless? If it were me, I still wouldn't give up. Embrace your dreams. And, whatever happens, protect your honour as a Shinobi, for the price of freedom is steep."

We need to talk

It was indeed pretty good to get back in the battlefield with a good and old Team 3 formation. In that very case, the dynamic or even leaf duo, as they like to call it.

Wahei though felt a different treatment from Satoshi, who used to be very cold and sometimes even rude with him because of that Hyuga pride syndrome. The boy rubbed a little and thought it was probably a result from his training sessions with Hirohito, who not only helped him to enhance his skills with the byakugan but also on how to use it to make Yuken even closer to a reality. - Thank you so much, mate!

Shigure didn't take long and they greet was quite enthusiastic. Wahei rubbed again but this time when Shigure mentioned that he was a chunin. With a strong nod, he said - Right? Look at this olive vest. It's quite strange using one of those after so much time as a genin... - "Coming to think, it really feels like several years" - "You mean... like breaking a curse or something?" - "What? Why'd say that?" - "I wasn't talking to you, punk. Back off" - one of those times that ignoring Envy was the best thing to do.

Pushing the joking around aside, he was there for a reason. And when he filled Shigure in and shared the mission log brief, the hyuga seemed to be strangely quite familiar with the case, promptly explaining himself of why. - Oh. I see. - Wahei mentioned - Well, hopefully, this will make things easier for us to infiltrate and dismantle this scheme again.

Wahei had make some digging shitty work in the underground and had some experience with drug schemes but also had connections with the scheme link of the whole operation. It all would eventually become in handy later. The point is, he couldn't simply blow up his whole coverage since that kind of operations was built and sustained by the village to attract bigger fishes. - Well, I guess we need to talk. - And that would be a long trip, apparently.

TIME TO SPARE

Shigure chuckled lightly and nodded. "You get used to it. It's quite comfortable though, and adds an extra layer of protection that can come in handy. Plus the pockets! Gotta love those! Hahaha! Which reminds me..." he paused, touching his chin with his index and thumb. "I need to teach you how to use the Generic Sealing Technique. Once you learn how to seal stuff in scrolls, life becomes much better! And those pockets are perfect for scrolls." he added. Shigure really did enjoy sealing techniques, and after taijutsu and ninjutsu, that was the area in which he was most skilled at.

Speaking of the mission, he was hoping it wasn't anything to do with the Sage Snuff, that fight got him a few cracked ribs, and he hoped no other Onigos would be in the area. But other drugs also made their way to the Land of Fire, and they could be all connected to some larger criminal group they were not really aware of. It was unfortunate that the scope of their missions was restricted to dealing with the problem at hand, and not really the root of it, but he had been so busy with missions, including helping allied nations, that he really couldn't afford to do digging of his own. "Indeed. They usually operate by the warehouses near the docks. Some of them have hidden rooms. Last time they even had hostages being used as guinea pigs. It was pretty bad." he sighed, shaking his head.

As they started heading towards Port City, Wahei mentioned that they needed to talk and Shigure nodded. "Well, we have plenty of time to talk. What's on your mind, bud?" he asked in a casual, yet slightly concerned tone.

"So what if it seems hopeless? If it were me, I still wouldn't give up. Embrace your dreams. And, whatever happens, protect your honour as a Shinobi, for the price of freedom is steep."

Operation Metastasis.

Ninjutsu was something really deadly and pretty much the basis of all the shinobi path. It didn't mean it was only a tool for harm, though. Actually, ninjutsu worked out as a pretty useful kind of technology that sourced up the world. As the Hyuga has just mentioned, seal techniques for instance, could make one's life pretty easier. - Impressive! - he said enthusiastically. Those kind of things would probably never cross his mind. - I'd love to learn such things - albeit his mind was already cracking thoughts and insights of how useful seals techniques could be in for biological purposes, meaning medical and scientific in general.

They were there for a call of duty stuff so naturally they didn't have much of time to focus on improvement so eventually Wahei would move those thoughts to quarantine. As they started talking about the mission brief, Shigure seemed familiar with quite of few things about their modus operandi. - Acknowledge. - he nodded. Based on that brief, it got easier for Wahei to set initial patterns over the operations he had known.

- Indeed - he said, as they started speeding up towards destination - Remember that stuff I've been working on to Yuuta-sensei? - a rhetorical question - Well, it wasn't just simple biological research and we - meaning - I - had to dig the feet under some dirty stuff. - he admitted, having a slightly gap o silence realizing how long he has been working on that stuff undercover - Some of them were not exactly legal, y'know? - even though it was quite obvious, it had to be said. - These kind of things are like plagues. They spread out real quick and in the moment you cut a source, another three pops out of nowhere in different locations because - truth be told - people can't be trusted. - who was him to judge and point finger, after double cross several of them.

- As a matter of fact, we have had our own experiences with that shitty matter ourselves, right!? Well, that's when the front door open to me and I joined a life of espionage. The village saw a potential in me - and to be honest I was quite dispensable at the time - and with Shinsuke and Yuuta pulling some strings, I started to feed from the very source of criminal affairs even before I could realize it. - this was a heavy subject, but one thing for sure, Wahei was really good at it because of his personas

- That's a two way road actually, so they quite feed from my skills as well. It's not a win-win situation, y'know. Feeding small chains I reached out the big ones. And in order to dismantle an organization like that, you need to implement a method we called operations metastasis. You need to spread the cancer throughout the whole scheme structure and burn it all at once to the ground. - he talked about it naturally. The experiences he had with those assignments have made him grow colder. - So my planning for this time, is that we are not going to simply crush the current smugglers like 'roaches. We are going to take their places by force, lure the big guys out, forcing them to the negotiation table, present a win-win situation, like a regular cell that starts spreading cancer within. - he said, gesticulating in circules a whole structure going down.

HALFWAY THERE

When Wahei mentioned Yuuta-sensei and the work he had been doing under the man, Shigure nodded. Seemed like whatever it was that he was doing, was some sort of dirty work. "Illegal?" he asked, but then Wahei continued to explain the nature of the work, which made Shigure wonder if he had perhaps joined the ANBU. He knew that technically he couldn't disclose a lot of that information, as many of their missions were even more classified than regular missions, and if he had an alias that also needed to be kept a secret, but he believed he could at least say he was in the ANBU or not, otherwise he wouldn't have known about Yusuke or Kazuto's position into the black ops.

"Did you... Uh... Did you join the ANBU?" he asked. Shigure had no idea something like Root existed. And with the Cursed Tongue Eradication Seal that was placed in all ANBU operatives, Wahei couldn't talk about it directly. But in a way, Root operatives did identify more publicly as ANBU as a mean to deflect suspicions on their true nature, so maybe he could tell Shigure that white lie at least.

As they leaped from tree branch to tree branch, he continued to listen to his explanation, and ultimately, he gave him a nod. "Makes sense. But I was hoping this thing didn't go as deep. Well... With my previous missions at Port City, and this one, I will push for a higher ranking mission so we can truly dismantle this criminal organization that is bringing shame to the Land of Fire." he said, with a firm conviction in his tone.

The two would continue until close to sunset, and then Shigure would stop at a clearing in the woods, were they could set up camp.

"So what if it seems hopeless? If it were me, I still wouldn't give up. Embrace your dreams. And, whatever happens, protect your honour as a Shinobi, for the price of freedom is steep."

Time for a break.

- I'm not sure if I understood what you're talking about. - he said promptly, but in a curious tone. No, he wasn't part of the ANBU. Not even the root, officially. After all, no one formally invited him. Shinsuke and Yuuta were more like influential freelancers. Connections to those who were really into the blackops stuff. And Wahei was, at the moment, like some kind of intern. A scapegoat, so to say.

Along the regular trip, the distance would demand a stop every now and then. As for Wahei, it was time to refill the supplies and look for useful things they could use. This kind of travel were always useful to find medicines and other natural resources. So in the meanwhile Shigure set up their camp stuff, Wahei would dedicate himself into his habitual personal affairs. We never know when those stuff could come in handy.

Next to the clearing there was a small stream where he also manage to make a fishing out of his water style skills. When he got back, and they started talking again over the strategy. Shigure response reflected his will of fire. It was filled with the wish for a heroic justice, as usual. Perhaps Wahei had lost it in his way, or have simply spent too much time digging others dirt.

- Think of it as in the counterfeit scheme. We managed to go to the bottom of this thanks to our manipulation over those useless minions. - he said, trying to highlight his point of view - That's what I meant by using small chains as leverage to get aboard of the real biggest ones. - he put the fish bucket to rest right ahead of Shigure. - Enough of smaller or biggest fishes this time. It's sharks hunting season, y'know? Really badass people. - he added.

This time, though, he grabbed one to help him preparing it. He had learn some cooking after all - How do you want it? Same as always? - he asked, changing the subject.

MOVING ON

Maybe he was wrong, as Wahei denied being part of the ANBU, and his tone indicated he was being honest, or at least that was how Shigure perceived it. "Nevermind..." he said, shaking his head. Once they got to the place where they were going to camp, Shigure took care of setting it up, while Wahei went his way to collect herbs and stuff. He would light the campfire, and put the meals he had prepared there, to warm up, and as he sit down, they started discussing the mission, while Shigure ate some of the chicken skeewers they had ready near the fire. "I mean... That sounds like a good enough plan. Lure them in, take them all down, get rid of the sharks." he nodded as he devoured his food.

"Same as always. Get some chicken in the meantime." he would offer. And after the two of them ate enough, they would call it a day, with Shigure taking the second watch. As they were up and ready, it was time for them to resume their trip. "We should get there before sunset if we keep up the pace. A good time, for the criminals are embolden by the twilight." he stated as he started leaping from tree branch to tree branch, on their way to Port City.

Destination: Port City.

The conversation went fine, as the boys prepared and discussed the last details of the strategy. For the night shift, Wahei would take the first shift and then try to rest his mind. - "So this is your Hyuga friend, eh?" - "What are you saying? You've met him before" - "Not like this." - Wahei didn't understood why Fear had his attention pointed at Shigure, but he learned to let some of his impressions go.

They would life as the sun started to crack, and swift their pace so they could reach there in time - We are going to need that advantage to check out on the area. It will come in handy that you already know the place. - he added and nodded to his friend, rolling the map and putting it back into his backpack - Okay. I'm ready to go. Mind leading the way? - he asked, since Shigure was best leading the first line so they could rush towards the destination: Port city.

Getting there, they would meet the shore and along with it, the ocean. The city where they sailed towards the Mizu no Kuni, where the CE was held, wasn't far from there. Actually, coming to think, it was also not far from the extracting point where he were once held hostage. Those memories triggered some bad feelings over him, as the smell of sea made him slightly sick - "This smell should remind you how stronger you are now. Lift your head, boy, or step out of the way and let me handle shit" - "No need. I'm on it".

"From the very moment we're thrown into this world, we're fated to bring each other nothing but pain, suffering and misery. THIS WAY

Shigure scoffed and then nodded. "I'm getting to the point I feel like I know Port City almost as much as I know the Hidden Leaf. It helps it is not a big city, but honestly... I hope we can solve its issues so that I can have a break from the place. I do not like the sight of the ocean. It brings forth some bad memories. Of Yoru... And of you, imprisoned there." he admitted. That time had not been easy for Shigure, as he feared he would be once again losing his whole team because of the actions of enemy shinobi. Ultimately, things worked out with Wahei and he was returned whole, but at the cost of Asahi's moving to the Hidden Mist. He couldn't help but to wonder how he was doing. If he had integrated into the village, or if he was being held as a prisoner. But thinking about it would just distract them from the mission, so he shrugged the thoughts off his mind.

"We are close. A little more than a kilometre." he would warn Wahei, and as the sun began to set, the two Leaf shinobi would finally arrive at Port City. "The best way to the docks, the discreet way, is through here. Come with me." he said, as he started guiding Wahei through some narrow alleys parallel to the market. His Byakugan was kept activated so he could already scan the area, and make sure they were not being noticed, or followed.

Always a warehouse basement.

- Not quite the best memories, right? - he said - Not to mention Asahi-san. We need to take him back at all cost. I refuse to accept that it's too late. You know? - and added - I... kind have... I think - and now just vented.

It was quite of a harsh situation for him, but as a chunin now, he learned and grow to push his personal feelings a side. Fear was someone really rough to handle, but he has its motivations and he couldn't agree with his attitude in some kind of level. After all, he was the one among the personas who could better handle its own... Fears. Other too, by the way. But that's a story for another time.

As asked, Shigure was following the lead and he suggested a smooth and swift path close to the docks. Getting there, they would find a portuary warhouse that looked quite suspicious. It was probably where some customs matters were handled - or at least it suppose to be but the place were totally messed up and no authority was around to keep the order. Which was quite strange. -

"Why it's always has to be in warehouses?" - "Obvious, because its a perfect place to handle shit" - "Huh. Fair point" -"Maybe is food in there though. Let's take a look!"

Wahei also activated his byakugan to learn the whereabouts, study some routes and, of course, have his own mind map about the area. He'd though follow Shigure as indicated, until they met a good position point - Perhaps we should separate from here, disguise, and try to dig out some INTEL. What you think? - he asked, open to listen what other possibilities his friend could have in mind.

"From the very moment we're thrown into this world, we're fated to bring each other nothing but pain, suffering and misery. SPLIT UP

"We must plan his rescue. But not now... We are not strong enough. So we need to push ourselves, until we become people our friends can rely on." he said, putting a temporary end to their discussion regarding Asahi. Yes, Shigure had the desire to help him come back home, but he needed to be realistic; they were not even close to being strong enough to be able to pull that off, and if they tried to, they would likely end up dead, or worst: captured, having their eyes removed, like the Mizukage had threatened to do with Wahei before.

As they made their way through the alleyways, they would finally reach the docks, and with their Byakugan, the two would find a rather suspicious warehouse. It was not far from the one he had raided back with Urikohime, the one where the Sage Snuff was being prepared, but the layout was different. Wahei suggested them to separate and Shigure nodded. "Did you notice the people walking out of the warehouse? I will follow them and see what they are up to. Meanwhile, dig up whatever you can from the warehouse. With our Byakugans, we will likely stay within range with one another. So if there are trouble, use he modified hand seals we developed, for our distant communication." he said, remind Wahei of what they had been developing thanks to their doujutsu's range.

With that being said, Shigure would leap from corner to corner, keeping himself to the shadows and following the group of three hooded individuals, who were heading towards a medium-sized ship in the docks.

"So what if it seems hopeless? If it were me, I still wouldn't give up. Embrace your dreams. And, whatever happens, protect your honour as a Shinobi, for the price of freedom is steep."

Inception Scheme.

Hearing Shigure say they weren't strong enough after all they went through was quite realistic, but had that undeniable inchy of frustration with it. They have indeed walked a long way and were far stronger than they ever was. Even so, that still wasn't enough. Sometimes it was harder to believe that this day would effectively come. So Wahei gave his friend a silent and kind of sorrow nod, specially because he was right and that's was quite a hard to swallow pill per se.

- Yes, I did. - he said, mental clear to focus on the mission. - I got this - he agreed as the plan would now be inspecting warehouses. He was quite familiar with this kind of tasks thanks to the assignments he have received from the 'family'.

Wahei disguised himself with a hood and walked towards the warehouse area. He started making the digs as Shigure requested and keep an eye on him as well so they could coordinate they whereabouts and following steps with their hand signs communication. Getting at the ceiling of the Warehouse, the chunin would then search within try to identify something useful they could use to sneak-in.

Inside the facility, there was a lot of goods locked up in a basement, with quite people working on it. Wahei concluded that the smugglers now where using civilians to dismantle the kept goods to make it easy to smoothly pass throw the eyes of the authorities. The scheme was divided in two departments, being one dedicated to dismantle regular goods and other responsible to hide in some of the parts illegal materials that would them be spread throughout the Hi no Kuni.

They objective was to extract and then re-insert the goods in the market flow so the product could fall in the right hands without being noticed. So it was pretty much an inception plan, involving smuggling and counterfeiting goods so they could hide within the true purpose of the contraband. - "There's no way the big chains are not related to it. So this is the source of the family income, eh? Those minors affairs were not even 10% of their wealth, I bet. How far have they gone? And how much deep into the system they are already?

INFORMATION

Shigure continued to follow the people to the ship in the dock, and when they boarded it, he leaped towards its hull, using the Tree Climbing Technique to be able to stand on it. He would then continue to follow them through the hull, keeping the visual with the Byakugan, but seeking to get close enough so he could also hear what they were saying. They entered a cabin in the ship, and the Hyuuga followed them, standing beside the window there while they discussed the matter.

"This time it will be fine. We are putting the product inside seemingly harmless devices, which we will push together with unaltered ones. With that we should avoid law enforcement and those pesky shinobi from the Leaf." one of the smugglers said, but the man who was in the ship seemed a bit more concerned. "Are you sure? They have been pretty effective at ending crimes in the area... The pirates are almost gone now... Even the Sage Snuff was dismantled." the man - who Shigure concluded was the captain of the ship - was concerned, but not uninterested in the deal, he just wanted to be more sure he wasn't walking into a trap. "That's why we are hiding the stuff and also pushing regular goods. As long as we keep our wits sharp, they won't notice. And you will be getting fairly compensated." the two would discuss for a good half an hour, going through the details of compensation, smuggling routes and schedule, and Shigure started writing it all down as he listened to it.

With that, they could come back on their first shipment day and get them red-handed, and also apprehend a lot of their products. Seemed like the first delivery of goods would be happening the next evening. And once the man were done talking, they shook hands and left. Once he was in the clear, the Hyuuga would sneak back to the area near the warehouse, so he could rendezvous with Wahei.

"So what if it seems hopeless? If it were me, I still wouldn't give up. Embrace your dreams. And, whatever happens, protect your honour as a Shinobi, for the price of freedom is steep."

The plan.

Wahei had make his mental notes about the whole operation scheme within the warehouse. Since Shigure was on their track, he'd probably find out further details about their outside operations as well. Hopefully, combining they INTEL so far, they could connect the pieces and see the whole picture behind that puzzle.

It took him about forthy minutes to confirm what he wanted to confirm, so when the time comes, he left an explosive tag planted in the ceiling and headed to get back towards their location point. Meeting the Hyuga there, he would approach him calmly and ready to report. - The operatives inside the warehouse is way too well organized, so we are handling some big chains for sure. Their scheme is use couterfeit stuff to drag attention and with a very select pieces they try to sneak their stuff hid into regular goods they reinsert into the market. They are forcing regular people from this place to help them with the work, which helps keeps them under the radar and to cover the whole thing up. - he said, then explaining details about the structure, some facades they were using as real business to keep the authorities out, but also his conclusion about them buying someone from inside.

Of course Wahei wanted to hear about the outside operations as well, so when Shigure spoke about what he has seen, he would nod and explain what he had in mind.

- My plan is to act as double-agents. Approach them as collectors, asking for an overprice than they usually pay to run their scheme with an extra for the usual protection fee. Of course they will protest and get really angry, probably threat us and start a mess. When the ninjas around show their faces, a new bargain starts, with us offering a guarantee that Konoha will not stick their noses around Port City anymore. We bring the cheese, and in one week this place will be filled with the big fat rats. All we need to do is set the right mousetraps for when they arrive, and bust they all at once. - Wahei sounded pretty convinced and seemed to really now how to handle that kind of operatives. Actually, it didn't even seemed like Wahei, but one of those freak personas of him.

Regardless of this phantom pain. This is my fate. This is my Destiny. It’s not the light which will guide us through the darkness, but the darkness that shall guide us through the light. Never forget. Always remember."
