Hisuiyuri was grumbling in his head, not at all happy about the technique its wielder wanted to try and learn today. Nari had gotten it into his head that he wanted to capitalize on his jumping skills and learn techniques that used them.

So he had gone to the Village’s Public Records department and spent a good several hours going to town on old documents to see if there was anything detailing polearm maneuvers and he had stumbled upon some cool looking techniques that someone forever ago had labeled as a "dragon knight" fighting style.

Perfection.

Nari thought it was fate and immediately took the records with him so he could do some practical application. Probably not what the record keepers had in mind when they allowed him to borrow the scrolls, but he was nothing if not consistent with his unconventionality.

So after scanning the documents, Nari had decided on learning the more basic of the techniques, but also one of the cooler ones. It detailed using his spear to launch himself in the air and turn the leap into some sort of awesome "Death from Above" dive attack. Nari was practically vibrating with excitement as he approached the training grounds, even if Hisuiyuri was less than happy with being used as a vaulting pole.

  A young member of the scattered Araikettei Clan, Narihira has the ability to wield the strange and powerful Life Blades. He created his own Blade at a young age, under the tutelage of his mother, however, instead of making a sword as was common for the Clan members, Narihira designed his in the shape of a polearm.

  Giving it the name Hisuiyuri, he began learning to properly wield it from the moment he could hold it. Due to the connection the blade shares with him, should it ever be broken, both Narihora and the blade's soul would die, so he keeps it on his person at all times and cares for it meticulously.
• 『Deep Chakra Pool』[break]
  Narihira was lucky to be born with a deeper-than-average chakra pool. It allows him to fight and use jutsu for longer periods of time before he tires, compared to those with average-sized chakra pools. It's especially useful for him, due to the fact that his Life Blade is constantly absorbing chakra from him. But thanks to the depth of his stores, he never feels the strain from that drain unless he has depleted the polearm's stores in combat.
• 『Life Blade Chakra』[break]
  As all Life Blades, Hisuiyuri absorbs Nari's chakra continuously as he carries it around, stacking up a decent amount of chakra inside of itself equal to half its wielder's chakra pool. The chakra becomes Hisuiyuri's and cannot be accessed by anyone other than the spear, allowing it to have the ability to self-repair small nicks and scratches it may obtain during combat.

  It also allows Hisuiyuri to have its own built-in security in case someone other than Nari grabs onto it. Using its futon chakra, sharp blades of wind will strike at the stranger's hands and arms until they release the spear. These gouges are minor cuts but they do sting quite a bit if they manage to hit skin.

  When entering combat, Hisuiyuri will use its own stores to fuel its abilities until it runs out and then will begin taking from Narihira. Thanks to his deeper-than-average chakra pools the wielder and weapon are able to go for a decent length of time-fighting in that state, but eventually, it will cause Nari to lose consciousness if the spear takes too much chakra.
• 『Flying Jades』[break]
  Using its natural affinity to fūton, Hisuiyuri is able to detach the six small jade points that line the sides of its spearhead and allow them to hover. By sacrificing the shredding ability the points usually grant the spear, Narihira is able to fire them off either one-by-one or all at once towards his opponents.

  At it's current skill level, Hisuiyuri's points move at a speed slightly quicker than a regular thrown kunai, due to being powered by fūton chakra and Narihira's able to control the path the points take up to 30m.

Nari picked out a section of the training grounds that was a good distance away from the other shinobi that were making use of the area. It was pretty clear both around him and above him so it made for the perfect spot to begin trying out the new technique.

According to the documents,the first step would be needing to use Hisuiyuri to get himself in the air. He was good at jumping up high, but he’d never used the spear as a lever. In hindsight, it sounded like an obvious way to get more lift, but Nari was always hesitant to treat the spear more like a tool than he already did. It always made Hisuiyuri grumpy if it was treated as anything less than amazing.

He patted the spear, trying to placate its grumbles. Okay. He should be able to do this.

From one end of the training plot, Nari started running and around the halfway point, he flipped Hisuiyuri around and jammed the end of the spear into the dirt. And promptly almost brained himself by accidentally slamming his head into the flat of the spear’s blade.

He ricocheted back and landed on his butt, flopping onto his back. Hisuiyuri was laughing in his head, Nari went boneless, lying on the ground, and whined in embarrassment. Ow.

Our kind simply fights when we're told

Another day, another visit to the training grounds. At least, that's what it'd been feeling like, lately. Even for someone like Atagi, who spent most of his days doing some form of chiseling away at his form in the endless quest for self improvement, there was even more fervor than usual, a particular sparkle in the eyes and a shine in the step. After all, one of the many benefits there was to traveling to participate in the exams was...A chance to meet another face! To make another connection, to have a fresh experience with those who are, and that which is-- unknown. Adorned in a maroon tracksuit with black accents, comfy enough to move around in but not so exposing that it'd be uncomfortable it it happened to be chillier than normal, he paths down the outer edge of the many sets of training grounds that there were to offer out in Kuwana, exaggeratedly peeking about with a hand to his brow, as if in search of something. Or someone, in this case.

He found his target-- a spear toting, almost ornately dressed looking boy, doing some form of training as was to be expected. Strolling on over to get a closer look, two fingers are raised to touch at his chin, a curious expression drawing itself upon the canvas of his features, a sharpening of eyes and a slight pulling together of the lips.

Low on the list of his expected outcomes was him faceplanting into his own weapon, however, and then eating dirt in the process. There's a widening of eyes, and the genin of the grass is running over before he can stop himself, or think better of it, waving an arm wide and calling out, coming to a stop only when he could lean over the fallen Narihira, casting a shadow over him and blinking a few times, aureate irises rolling up and down his form. ”Oi, oi! Yo, you alright? That didn't look or sound pleasant, godssakes!” Genuine concern tinges his tone, strangely juxtaposed by his usual inclination to speak about a level and a half louder than was necessary, and the fact that it seemed he was half-laughing even when he asked, obviously at least a little amused by the inadvertent slapstick. The hitai-ate atop his brows and the badge affixed at the outside of his jacket make clear both where he's from and what he's here for without a word, as the Uzumaki offers a hand to the downed dragoon.

The dirt was nice. Very nice. Maybe if he just lied here for the rest of eternity the earth would swallow him up and he would never have to face his embarrassment again.

Nari’s mortification was compounded when a concerned voice rang across the training grounds, because someone had seen him eat dirt and that was even worse than the actual mistake. Hisuiyuri laughing at the back of his mind was bad enough. He groaned and flopped his free arm over his face as the sounds of the concerned citizen’s footsteps made their way over.

He peeked past his elbow and let out a huff, because of course it had to be a Kusagakure shinobi who had seen him fail. This just kept getting better. Well, Nari wasn’t self-absorbed enough to deny help when offered.

"Yep, perfectly fine," he said, readjusting Hisuiyuri so he could take the other boy’s hand. "Only thing injured was my pride."

He did a little hop once he reached his feet, brushing the dust off his clothing with his free hand, and making sure everything was situated where it was supposed to be. "Ugh, that did not go how I wanted it to-will you stop laughing at me?"

That outburst only made Hisuiyuri’s growly chuckles grow even louder. Nari rolled his eyes and then realized where he was and who was next to him. "Not you, sorry," he said to the Kusa boy. "The spear is being rude."

The spear? Introduce me properly.

"Shush. Sorry. Again, the spear."

Like that explained everything, Nari sheathed the spear back into its place on his back. "Thanks for the hand," He offered his hand to the other boy, the Takigakure symbol branded onto the leather on display. "I'm Fukase Narihira, nice to meet you. And you are?"

There were so many contestants attending the Exams that Nari had gotten all the names mixed up with each other. But he was eager to meet someone new, village relations could be ignored for the time being.

[Uzumaki Atagi]

Releasing at Nari's hand once they had worked together to tug him back up onto his feet, Atagi stands with a hand cocked at his hip, the other gesturing up and down the boy with a single finger, like he was supposed to be tracing an invisible laser over his body, eyes following suit-- the same way one would size up an enemy combatant, even if his demeanor never became any less chipper. Oo, he's a Taki-nin, is he? We're s'posed to be on bad terms, if I recall correctly. Even if that was the case, the positively sanguine genin didn't shed a hint of ill will at his fellow competitor.

When he remarks that only his pride's been damaged, and then follows with a sharp command to cease the chortling at once, Atagi covers his mouth, blinking animatedly in a fashion that suggested he was caught entirely off guard. Then, when it's clarified that the spear is the one that Hisayuri is mad at, as opposed to himself, he plops a fist into a palm, as if he's come to a realization or made a discovery, before properly taking Nari's hand in his own once more, giving it a set of firm, energetic shakes. "Likewise, Narihira-san. Maybe Nari-kun? Rihi-san?” Out loud, he considers a couple of nicknames or shortenings, testing out how they felt coming off of his tongue.

”I'm Atagi! Uzumaki Atagi, of the Hidden Grass-- Though I suppose that part was already obvious. Future great person! Aspiring hero.” When he introduces himself, the crimson-haired shinobi releases at Nari's hand to jerk a thumb towards his chest, seeming quite proud of nothing in particular. ”Nice to make your acquaintance in turn; I'm no stranger to tumbling to the ground, myself, so there's worse people that could've caught your display. Our villages aren't on the greatest of terms, but I've never been big on politics, myself-- good people are good people no matter where they're from, right? If you're a bad guy, though, I might haveta take you down.” Tongue pokes out from his lips just slightly in a mischievous expression, a brief quirk of both brows along with it.

”And--. The spear? Are you one of those types who's got some sorta living weapon? Oh, maybe it's posessed by a demon, who begrudgingly has to work with you in order to be freed! Or maybe it's your childhood love's soul, preserved in a weapon that you soak with blood in search of his or her killer?” There's a terrible amount of excitement, already getting distracted from his prior point, as Atagi talks a mile a minute, rattling off different backstories for living weapons that he's read about...in fiction.

"Nari's perfectly fine. That’s what most people call me anyway," he said as his hand was vigorously shaken by the other boy. If Nari was a self-aware type of person, he would definitely notice the similarities between his own personality and the Atagi. Hyperactive dorks, the both of them. But, as it was, Nari didn’t realize how similar they were, he was just excited that the other boy was excited.

With Atagi’s introduction about being a Future Great Person™ and Aspiring Hero™, Nari adopted an impressed look and gave a small round of applause. "Very nice, awesome goals." It was awesome that the other boy knew what he was aiming for in life. Nari wasn't sure what he wanted yet, just that he was going for...something.

The younger teen went through a face journey as Atagi continued talking. "I'm not big on politics either," Nari admitted after a beat, face settling into his trademark grin. "Mom taught me that it doesn't matter where people are from."

She usually followed that with "their money is all the same" but Nari didn't know if that would land in this situation. "And I don't think I'm a bad guy." Mischievous, maybe, but not bad.

Then the subject was brought back to Hisuiyuri. It didn’t shock him that his talking to the spear was being commented on. It usually did invoke a reaction. Narihira perked up even more.

"Oh! The first one! I think." Nari wasn’t exactly sure if Hisuiyuri was technically alive or not, but the "living weapon" category fit the spear better than anything else that Atagi had listed off. He brought the spear back to the front, showing the intricate weapon off. "This is Hisuiyuri, my partner, we can talk to each other."

"We were trying to practice a new technique that I read up on, but, well...you saw how well the first attempt went." Nari laughed, rubbing at the back of his head in embarrassment. "Probably need to work more on my jumping before we’re ready to try that stuff though."

Nari rolled the spear between his hands, looking off to the training grounds. He wasn't sure how, but he figured if he looked around enough, he'd be able to find a method to work on his gymnastics a bit.

  Narihira was lucky to be born with a deeper-than-average chakra pool. It allows him to fight and use jutsu for longer periods of time before he tires, compared to those with average-sized chakra pools. It's especially useful for him, due to the fact that his Life Blade is constantly absorbing chakra from him. But thanks to the depth of his stores, he never feels the strain from that drain unless he has depleted the polearm's stores in combat.

  As all Life Blades, Hisuiyuri absorbs Nari's chakra continuously as he carries it around, stacking up a decent amount of chakra inside of itself equal to half its wielder's chakra pool. The chakra becomes Hisuiyuri's and cannot be accessed by anyone other than the spear, allowing it to have the ability to self-repair small nicks and scratches it may obtain during combat.

  It also allows Hisuiyuri to have its own built-in security in case someone other than Nari grabs onto it. Using its futon chakra, sharp blades of wind will strike at the stranger's hands and arms until they release the spear. These gouges are minor cuts but they do sting quite a bit if they manage to hit skin.

  When entering combat, Hisuiyuri will use its own stores to fuel its abilities until it runs out and then will begin taking from Narihira. Thanks to his deeper-than-average chakra pools the wielder and weapon are able to go for a decent length of time-fighting in that state, but eventually, it will cause Nari to lose consciousness if the spear takes too much chakra.

  Using its natural affinity to fūton, Hisuiyuri is able to detach the six small jade points that line the sides of its spearhead and allow them to hover. When Nari shows off Hisuiyuri in all their glory, amber irises can't help but be drawn along it, practically sparkling with interest-- much in the same way that he might admire a person's particular beauty, the living weapon had an air of mystery to it, along with being pretty all on its own. ”You can talk to one another? That's amazing, yeah! I hear of swordsmen who whisper to their blades, as they cradle them lovingly before bedtime, but one that talks back is kinda rare in real life, isn't it? Yuri-chan must be quite something, if they've got the capacity to do things like giggle. Green's a nice colour-- and it looks like it'd hurt like hell, if they thing went in n' out of a uhman body even once.” He doesn't appear to register or realize that the weapon might find the cutesy honorific insulting when it's supposed to be a dignified weapon. At the embarrassed expression scribbled across Nari's face, Atagi is eager to try and rectify things, flapping a hand back and forth his way, giving his head a mild shake back and forth.

”Ah, whatever! Don't worry 'bout it so much, yeah? You've gotta learn how to fall before you can fly, that's just common sense!” Common sense for whom, exactly, it's not said. Still, the raw enthusiasm with which he remarks it, it's probably hard to argue with that level of confidence. When the younger genin's eyes begin to skirt and scope about the training grounds in search of that which'd help him leap even higher, further, better than before, Atagi joins him, exaggeratedly raising a hand to the brow and peering around, the gears within his skull turning slowly, but surely, as he sought out a way to help. Slowly, his tongue starts to poke from his pursed lips, much like a lizard, as he dedicates more and more brainpower to thinking up something good. Then, he snaps his fingers in front of his body, clenching a fist in front of him-- one could practically see the lightbulb popping up over his head, and then exploding in short order..

”Oh, well! I know an acrobat-type from back home-- a bowman, precisely-- and he's basically one big length of toned, dense muscle, yeah? I think the key is those sortsa exercises, uh. Mostly involving using your whole body as a weight, but not much more than that, since if you become a big hunk of rippling muscle that can punch straight through people, it becomes relatively harder to do something like vault yourself off a bar, pole or...Yuri-chan, in this case. So we oughta try stuff like that! The exam folk prepped for everything, so I'm sure there's stuff around we can use for that-- a set of bars, or poles to jump around and move on, or even those ring-thingies...”

Like usual, when he gets excited, Atagi talks way too fast, and he says something that's probably obvious even without his own spark of inspiration. Also, it might've been difficult to catch, but the 'we can use' implies, not so subtly, that the grass genin is suddenly including himself in Nari's workout, without so much as a proper discussion beforehand.

Atagi was a nice guy. Every word out of his mouth was boosting Nari’s ego to a new height. Heck yeah his spear was awesome. Even if said spear was grumbling about its newly acquired nickname. Despite being the same age as Nari, the spear acted like a grumpy old man…considering that Hisuiyuri was a part of him, what did that say about his own soul?

Nari tilted his head as Atagi word-vomited about his friend back at home who was good at doing acrobatic type things. Gold eyes glittering and smile growing alongside his excitement. It piqued the Taki’s interest immensely because, despite not using a bow, that was kind of exactly what he wanted.

He didn’t even mind that the Kusa was inviting himself into the training session, because training was alway more fun with other people. Solo training was always so monotonous - even with a talking spear. Hisuiyuri wasn’t exactly forthcoming with helpful banter during training sessions.

"Yeah, I’m sure they have something useful around here," he agreed with the other boy about equipment searching. "Wouldn’t be a very good training ground otherwise."

Nari motioned for the redhead to lead the way, following alongside as they went to look for the proper spot. He knew he had seen some monkey bars not too far away and there were tons of half-walls that surrounded the grounds. Nari was sure that he could get a kickbutt workout no matter what else he and Atagi discovered.

And so, just like that, it's decided. Atagi flashes his new companion (and his semi-animate friend) a winning smile, throwing a hand over his shoulder in a 'follow me' gesture...even after the other boy's already done one of his own for the Uzumaki to lead. Then, he sets off, a spring in his step as they scour the grounds for a setup that seems useful for their purposes "Absolutely, yeah?” he responds to Nari's assertion, missing out on a golden opportunity to slip in some snide remark about how it wouldn't be a surprise if Iwagakure had sup-par facilities...but ultimately he wasn't such a petty individual, anyway. A hum emanates from pursed lips as he scuttles along the edges of the grounds, trotting along with his newfound pair of associates in tow.

Quiver, quiver. Atagi's body starts to shake, brows furrowed in obvious consternation, a comical contrast with the ever-present grin at his features, producing an expression not unlike a man deeply confused about his own laughter. Each hand's set of digits was wrapped about a wooden ring, dangling by worn-out looking straps from a metal apparatus. The incarnadine haired shinobi himself, too, was dangling-- well, not quite. Instead of dangling, he had pulled himself up off the ground, each arm out at his sides, legs together, so that the whole of his form was like that of vertical cross, arms flexed with a downward bend of the wrist. "Haah, haah...” His breathing is haggard, but he keeps yammering nonetheless, considering even that much to be to some greater training end.

”It might look easy, but it's all about form, yeah? Bein' in touch with your own body.” How long had he been holding that position? A minute, a minute and a half, now? The Uzumaki lowers himself, slow, with what was perhaps a surprising level of discipline and control for someone so obviously exuberant, just hanging from them, now. Then, he slowly starts to lift himself back up, until he's locked into position again, sweat starting to sheen at his brow. ”Not puttin' pressure or stress or leveraging at the wrong parts. Keeping everything tight. If you smacked me in the stomach right now, it'd be like an iron wall, bahaha.” An obvious exaggeration; though maybe he himself believed it. ”Obviously-- strength and agility from this kind of training come after days and days of work, so that'll be your own journey. But I can at least help with the form thing! I think, if you get this down, then vaulting off a pole will be way easier, since a lot of the principles are the same! Activated core, balancing minutely shifting weight, etcetera.” Again, a slow lowering...then dropping down into the dirt with a whump, kicking up a tiny dust cloud. Shaking out his limbs as if trying to dislodge a swarm of insects, he huffs and puffs, perhaps pushing himself for the sake of impressing a stranger.

”So! You give it a few tries, yeah? I'll tell you what you're doin' wrong or adjust you, or whatever.” It was more of an insistence than a request, despite the question mark, even as the grass shinobi stretched exaggeratedly, eyes excitedly peering Nari's way, as if expectant of grand things.

Nari watched, body in a relaxed pose, as the Kusa shinobi showed off his technique on the rings. He had good form, the Taki noted, it took a lot of upper body strength to be able to hold steady in any position while on the rings. He nodded along with what Atagi was saying, taking the advice and storing it away. Except the part about punching stomachs, probably not a good idea for a budding friendship.

Nari had some minor experience with rings from his personal training back home, so he had a small groundwork to begin with. Not a lot, he preferred bars over rings, but he understood what Atagi was talking about at least. Improving his core muscles would definitely help in increasing his vaulting capabilities.

"Sounds good," he said, moving over to the rings. Before he grabbed them, he made sure his gloves were on properly, he didn’t need to start slipping right from the get go.

Grasping the rings, Nari pulled himself up until his arms were at about a 45 degree angle from his body. He kept himself stable for a few moments, swinging his legs back and forth, having a bit of fun before actually working out. He stilled his swinging, and then began lowering his body like Atagi had until his arms were at a 90 degree angle. He held it until his arms began to shake a tiny bit and then he raised himself back up.

He repeated the motion a few times before his shaking got a little too much and he dropped down before the rings got away from him and he wound up falling face first in the dirt a second time today.

"How’d that look?" He looked towards Atagi, rubbing at his wrists to get the soreness from them. He knew it had been a while since he had done the rings, so there were probably a few notes that his temporary training buddy could coach him on.

Finding someone who was so happy to be tugged along or swept away by Atagi's insistence and ebullience was always a treat, and Nari here was no exception. Part of him wonders how someone who's seemingly so pleasant could supposedly be an enemy, potential or otherwise, to begin with. Politics was something beyond him...and shinobi, as is often the case, were raised and educated to not concern themselves with such things. Soldiers simply needed to be able to take and execute orders in a clear and efficient manner, not think about the why. And frankly, he's not one to strongly consider such matters to begin with...for better or worse, he found himself going with the flow more often than not. Creating it, typically.

When the spear-toting Taki-nin gives the gruff agreement and steps up to the metaphorical plate, it's his newfound buddy's cue to give an exaggerated double thumbs up. As the dragoon's taking his turn on the rings, Atagi unabashedly observes, drinking up every inch of the other male's body with his eyes, cruising over his body. There's a few affirmative noises made, some nodding, a touch of his middle and index fingers to the chin. The swinging does seem fun, all told. The Uzumaki even goes about circling Nari a handful of times, as if that was supposed to give him a better idea of what he was doing right or wrong. While it might've been true that a taijutsu practitioner such as himself was likely to be more knowledgeable about the human body than another shinobi, a bukijutsu artiste like Nari probably wasn't too far off. Still, there's something to be learned from everyone you touch.

”Very good, actually! You're not an amateur, that's for sure.” he responds to the earnest query. Was it too much encouragement? There was no such thing, as far as the Kusa-nin was concerned. ”First thing-- and this is only sorta related, but. Between your obvious physical prowess and that sorta svelte pretty-boy aeshetic you've got going on, you'd make for a great performer, if life as a limb of the village doesn't somehow pan out for you.” Crossing at his arms, the Uzumaki gives two sage-like nods. It was often hard to tell if he was joking or not, since he was so jovial at a baseline, but that piece of information seemed earnest enough, at least.

There's a scant few moments for Narihira to slip in a reply, if he so chooses. But it's not long before the genin from the grass is piping up again, the digits at his chin gesturing toward his training partner. ”But! I do think I've got an idea of the general issue, after seein' the movement in slower motion. It's the wrists, yeah?” The man asserts, pointing in an almost accusatory manner at where he's rubbing away.

To demonstrate, Atagi raises up both of his hands like a costumed neko-maid, making faux-paws in front of his body, digits clenched in a loose fist. Raising up a at his hands a little via the wrist like he's going to push something away, then flexing them down as though dangling a blanket, cape, or some other billowy fabric.

”If you angle them wrong, then when you're tryin' to vault off your pole, then you're probably putting stress on all the wrong places, yeah? I think if you imagine a sort of 'rod' or 'line' or sommat all the way to your hand, and don't let yourself do what's innately 'comfortable', you'll have a lot more support n' leverage with which to catapult yourself!” Ceasing the ridiculous looking cat-pawing motion, Atagi instead pumps a fist, seeming terribly excited.

”Try whatever move you were doing with the spear, again! I'll position myself to catch you, just in case.” There he was again, going off and insisting people do whatever he wanted...well, at least it provided a clear path for them to proceed along, as far as developing the maneuver went.

Nari bounced lightly on his toes after he had lowered himself to the ground, soaking up the praise. His cheeks did pinken slightly at the pretty-boy comment, though he appreciated the comment. "Thanks?" he wasn’t sure if it was a compliment or simply just an observation. The young Taki did enjoy performing, maybe looking into acrobats in the future could give him ideas for better moves.

He stifled a snort of laughter at the other boy’s antics. Doing cat paws was one way to get the weak wrists point across. The boy nodded along with Atagi’s explanation. It made sense, that having his wrists at the wrong angle would probably mess his launch up. If he focused on keeping the angle tight, then he shouldn’t have as much trouble as before.

Unholstering Hisuiyuri, Nari spun the spear around to his front. "Maybe don’t stand too close?" he said. "I appreciate you offering to catch me, but I wouldn't want to accidentally kick you, or something." That would just be rude, especially since the Kusa boy was trying to assist him with his training.

Nari moved over to the far end of the nearby training field, making sure it was clear of stragglers. Shifting his grip on Hisuiyuri, he began running across the field. Once he got up enough speed, Nari spun the spear and slammed the butt into the ground, to use as a lever and pull himself up into the air.

This time, instead of trying to twist with the motion, he kept his wrists locked until he reached the apex of the motion. Then he shifted his body, it caused his jump to slow a bit, but he managed to make a weak kick out before arcing back down to the ground and landing on his feet.

Nari beamed, laughing with excitement as he bounced back once from the impact. It was a marked improvement from his earlier attempt. There were still some kinks to work out, but those could be dealt with some practice.

"Woo!" he said, spinning the spear. "We’re getting it, Hisuiyuri!" He turned back towards Atagi with a smile. "Your advice worked! What’d’ya think?" He was excited to hear the other boy’s opinion on his move.

  A young member of the scattered Araikettei Clan, Narihira has the ability to wield the strange and powerful Life Blades. He created his own Blade at a young age, under the tutelage of his mother, however, instead of making a sword as was common for the Clan members, Narihira designed his in the shape of a polearm.

  Giving it the name Hisuiyuri, he began learning to properly wield it from the moment he could hold it. Due to the connection the blade shares with him, should it ever be broken, both Narihora and the blade's soul would die, so he keeps it on his person at all times and cares for it meticulously.
• 『Deep Chakra Pool』[break]
  Narihira was lucky to be born with a deeper-than-average chakra pool. It allows him to fight and use jutsu for longer periods of time before he tires, compared to those with average-sized chakra pools. It's especially useful for him, due to the fact that his Life Blade is constantly absorbing chakra from him. But thanks to the depth of his stores, he never feels the strain from that drain unless he has depleted the polearm's stores in combat.
• 『Life Blade Chakra』[break]
  As all Life Blades, Hisuiyuri absorbs Nari's chakra continuously as he carries it around, stacking up a decent amount of chakra inside of itself equal to half its wielder's chakra pool. The chakra becomes Hisuiyuri's and cannot be accessed by anyone other than the spear, allowing it to have the ability to self-repair small nicks and scratches it may obtain during combat.

  It also allows Hisuiyuri to have its own built-in security in case someone other than Nari grabs onto it. Using its futon chakra, sharp blades of wind will strike at the stranger's hands and arms until they release the spear. These gouges are minor cuts but they do sting quite a bit if they manage to hit skin.

  When entering combat, Hisuiyuri will use its own stores to fuel its abilities until it runs out and then will begin taking from Narihira. Thanks to his deeper-than-average chakra pools the wielder and weapon are able to go for a decent length of time-fighting in that state, but eventually, it will cause Nari to lose consciousness if the spear takes too much chakra.
• 『Flying Jades』[break]
  Using its natural affinity to fūton, Hisuiyuri is able to detach the six small jade points that line the sides of its spearhead and allow them to hover. By sacrificing the shredding ability the points usually grant the spear, Narihira is able to fire them off either one-by-one or all at once towards his opponents.

  At it's current skill level, Hisuiyuri's points move at a speed slightly quicker than a regular thrown kunai, due to being powered by fūton chakra and Narihira's able to control the path the points take up to 30m.

Our kind simply fights when we're told

The incarnadine-haired shinobi from the grass only gives a laugh at the prospect of being kicked, thumping at his chest with the first three fingers of his right hand in what was a gesture of acceptance…apparently. ”Aye, captain. I’m not too partial to boots in the face either, believe it or not.” He might’ve been an idiot, oftentimes, but there was at least some smattering of common sense, about him. Something about weapon users was inherently cool, Atagi had found. He wondered if it was a result of the way they did things or a prerequisite, thinking about it simply from seeing the boy spinning the spear around to the front of his body in such a simple, practiced gesture. An expression eager as it is earnest slapped across the features, the Uzumaki moves the opposite direction of Nari, humming to himself some sanguine song born from the heart, soon to be forgotten.

Ah, wait. Maybe we should’ve consulted Yuri-chan on it first? I wonder why I didn’t think to ask him…her…them? What they think. Though one has to wonder if a weapon without eyes can see. Probably at least a little? Mn. Remember to ask someone smarter than you about this later, Atagi.

A hand is raised up to the brow to shield from the sun in the universal symbol of farseeing, and the Kusa-nin’s neck cranes one way, then the other, ensuring there was nobody wandering in the vicinity likely to accidentally get hurt. People weren’t brazen enough to go wandering through grounds where the shinobi trained, of course not…but Atagi had seen at least a few speculating spectators or curious children poking about the edges or outskirts of the grounds, on occasion.

There’s a little thumbs up given (not that it was asked for) and then Nari is off once more. Aureate irises fixate themselves on the Taki-nin, drinking up every movement. The same senses one utilized to size up an enemy or to pick out the details or dangers of an assault could be directed in this capacity, to, to assist and assuage. The plant. The vault. The arc. The landing…

He pumps a fist into the air with marked excitement, dashing on over smacking the other genin on the back. How’s that for a ‘what he thought’? ”How wondermazing is that, yeah? One part mobility, one part attack, nothing wasted. I like it!” A brief moment to breathe, and to think, touching at his chin. ”Practice it about nine hundred ninety nine more times, of course, just to get it all down pat, but. The principle is sound.”

There’s a look tossed toward the sky, then to the ground, mentally trying to gauge how much distance the other boy’d covered both vertically and horizontally…and then he spots the sun, and how much it’s moved. ”Ach, shit. I gotta get moving and find an open spot to do my own training, yeah? Thanks again, though, Nari-kun and Yuri-chan both! Keep practicing that the rest of the day, wontcha?” There’s another sharp, exaggerated salute given, and the genin from the grass is darting off as quick as he’d come, like a rabbit that’s failed to keep his appointment for a tea party.

The red-head cheered for him again, using a made up word this time. But Nari was still fueled by the bright and cheery attitude. It bolstered him and made him feel as though his progress was a huge thing. Even though he had only barely just avoided faceplanting again. He couldn’t help but smile at the other boy’s enthusiasm, though he did balk when the number of times he should practice came out of Atagi’s mouth.

Nine hundred and ninety-nine more times? The number seemed staggering, but Nari guessed that he’d probably done similar numbers over time with his other technique trainings. But still, he wasn’t about to do nine hundred and ninety-nine vaults today...maybe just like nineteen more. That seemed like a more reasonable goal.

Nari was broken out of his inner musings by Atagi letting out a light swear as he looked towards the sky. Nari looked up too and was surprised to see how much time had actually passed since they started. Atagi was on the same train of though because he started going on about doing his own training.

Nari nodded and stepped aside so the other boy could dash off, giving a wave at his retreating form as his way of saying goodbye.

With the red-head gone, Nari was all alone, save for Hisuiyuri. Well, he might as well take the other boy’s advice and keep practicing. That was the only way he was gonna get this move down. So he spun his spear and planted his feet. This time, he knew, it would be so much better.
