To barely manage getting away from Junichi's staff-grab-thing, Nari had to basically cartwheel out of reach and land oddly a few feet away. He quickly corrected himself, standing upright and readjusting with some quick hops, while also putting some distance between them.

He whirled around, Hisuiyuri at the ready in order to counter whatever Junichi's tried to send his way, only to see he wasn't doing much except for forming what looked like handseals…but with only one of his hands?

He was curious as to what the boy was attempting, as he had never seen anyone try to do handseals with just one hand. He, himself, didn't use handseals very often as most of his skills were of the physical nature rather than Ninjutsu, but he could see how it would be handy to have a freed hand, especially when wielding a large spear…he may have to look into this one handed stuff.

But as cool as what Junichi was trying was, Nari wasn't gonna just stand there and let the kid unleash whatever it was he was aiming for. Using the lag Junichi was suffering to his advantage, Nari rushed forward, striking the dirt with the butt of the spear and dragging it toward the other boy so he could launch a cloud of dust at him, hoping to irritate his eyes and obscure his vision. If successful, Nari would go to his tried and true move of aiming down low with a sweep to once again try and knock Junichi's feet from under him.

  A young member of the scattered Araikettei Clan, Narihira has the ability to wield the strange and powerful Life Blades. He created his own Blade at a young age, under the tutelage of his mother, however, instead of making a sword as was common for the Clan members, Narihira designed his in the shape of a polearm.

  Giving it the name Hisuiyuri, he began learning to properly wield it from the moment he could hold it. Due to the connection the blade shares with him, should it ever be broken, both Narihora and the blade's soul would die, so he keeps it on his person at all times and cares for it meticulously.
• 『Deep Chakra Pool』[break]
  Narihira was lucky to be born with a deeper-than-average chakra pool. It allows him to fight and use jutsu for longer periods of time before he tires, compared to those with average-sized chakra pools. It's especially useful for him, due to the fact that his Life Blade is constantly absorbing chakra from him. But thanks to the depth of his stores, he never feels the strain from that drain unless he has depleted the polearm's stores in combat.
• 『Life Blade Chakra』[break]
  As all Life Blades, Hisuiyuri absorbs Nari's chakra continuously as he carries it around, stacking up a decent amount of chakra inside of itself equal to half its wielder's chakra pool. The chakra becomes Hisuiyuri's and cannot be accessed by anyone other than the spear, allowing it to have the ability to self-repair small nicks and scratches it may obtain during combat.

  It also allows Hisuiyuri to have its own built-in security in case someone other than Nari grabs onto it. Using its futon chakra, sharp blades of wind will strike at the stranger's hands and arms until they release the spear. These gouges are minor cuts but they do sting quite a bit if they manage to hit skin.

  When entering combat, Hisuiyuri will use its own stores to fuel its abilities until it runs out and then will begin taking from Narihira. Thanks to his deeper-than-average chakra pools the wielder and weapon are able to go for a decent length of time-fighting in that state, but eventually, it will cause Nari to lose consciousness if the spear takes too much chakra.
• 『Flying Jades』[break]
  Using its natural affinity to fūton, Hisuiyuri is able to detach the six small jade points that line the sides of its spearhead and allow them to hover. By sacrificing the shredding ability the points usually grant the spear, Narihira is able to fire them off either one-by-one or all at once towards his opponents.

  At it's current skill level, Hisuiyuri's points move at a speed slightly quicker than a regular thrown kunai, due to being powered by fūton chakra and Narihira's able to control the path the points take up to 30m.

Before he could properly finish preparing the technique, Narihira made his move, dragging his spear against the ground in order to kick up dust and dirt. He made a sort of graceless squawking sound, and the hot water shurikens he'd been trying to create instead came in the form of one sad plop of water dropping straight to the ground.

Given the barrier of his glasses, the dirt didn't really directly strike his eyes, but the dirt coating the lenses was almost as bad. Sure, there was no irritation, but there was also no way for him to blink it out without stopping to wipe the glasses clean. That meant his vision was pretty obscured. His glasses were going to be a real problem on the field, if it was this easy to prevent him from seeing at all.

Making another clumsy hand seal, he splashed his face with soapy water, which made some of the dirt run off. Blegh. He was going to have to clean them off properly as soon as possible!

He twisted his staff through the air still somewhat blindly, channeling some soapy chakra through that as well. Bubbles formed through the ends, filling the air with small, iridescent little orbs with swirling steam inside of them. They weren't great as a defensive layer because they were fragile and would pop at the slightest shiver of the air, but they were something!

Nari snickered lightly at the noise that Junichi made as the cloud hit him in the face, not even mad that the dust hitting the boy made him stumble back enough that the underhanded sweep missed completely.

Nari rolled backwards in a somersault and hopped up to his feet by pushing off of the ground with his hands. He twisted the spear again so it was upside down and he wouldn’t accidentally hit Junichi with the blade. He made an impressed noise at the jutsu the kid used to splash his face, but it wasn’t as effective as the Ame boy probably hoped for.

He snorted another laugh, and summoned all six of the jades from the base of Hisuiyuri’s blade to fly forwards and try to pop a lot of the bubbles that were in his direct path. He would follow the daggers, trying to sidestep the ones the points missed to get in close to Junichi and aim the butt of the spear towards the younger boy’s gut, to lightly wind him.

As he closed in, the jades would return to their spots on the spear, done with their duty. Then, if the gut check hit or missed, he would shift his grip and perform a quick swap to try and lightly bonk Junichi in the head with the flat of Hisuiyuri’s blade, in order to disorient him a bit more, but definitely not enough to actually hurt the kid.

Even having cleaned his glasses off somewhat, his vision was still skewed, both by the bit of dirt (now mud, since it was wet) still on his glasses and the few soapy bubbles gathering around the rims. All that was to say, even if he was someone with good reaction time, he'd be a really easy target at the moment.

Narihira's flying jades hit the bubbles easily, since they were stagnant targets. They popped and the little bit of steam within wisped off harmlessly into the air, clearing an easy, if mildly humid, path for Narihira. He was agile enough to dodge the few remaining bubbles, which meant the butt of the spear landed on Junichi's stomach with relative ease, knocking the wind out of him as he stumbled back again.

Then the spear came down to bonk him on the head. Ouch!

Dizzied and disoriented, he could feel himself getting a little frustrated again. What would he do in a real fight? Probably use his fake blood technique to make the opponent think he won. He wouldn't do that to scare Narihira, though - that'd be mean. He was quickly bumping up against the wall of techniques he could use without possibly hurting Narihira. It was too bad there was no such thing as blunt practice ninjutsu!

"I think I need a break," Junichi breathed, rubbing his head and then taking off his glasses to start cleaning them off. "You're really good."

The sound the spear made when it clonked against Junichi’s head gave Nari pause. He had thought it wasn’t a hard hit, but maybe he had misjudged his strength. Nari pulled back, still on offense, but before he could switch and go in for another attack, Junichi signaled to stop and said he needed a break.

Which was fine with Nari, he was beginning to feel the effects of the training too, his breathing becoming a little heavier. "Sure thing, I didn’t hurt you did I?" he asked, taking a step back to relax his posture and slid Hisuiyuri back into its holster, before tacking on, "Sorry about your glasses."

Then Junichi was a great sport and a sweetheart and told him he was really good. It made Nari’s ego soar. "Thanks a bunch!" he said brightly, happy with the compliment. "You’re really good too, a fast learner."

It had taken him ages to learn what he had, so Junichi was well on the right track to have managed to get a couple hits in. Narihira was impressed with the younger boy’s skill.

He twisted at the waist, wrapping his arm around the other to stretch and cool down his muscles. He did a few squats before straightening up and leaning in close to Junichi. "And the bubble ninjutsu and the fact that you only used one hand? That was so cool! I wish I was better at ninjutsu like that."

Nari always had trouble with ninjutsu - he was much better with his spear - so anyone who could use ninjutsu alongside weapons was all the cooler to him.

He leaned back onto his heels, looking out over the other people on the training grounds. "Did you have fun training, at least?"

Narihira asked if he'd hurt Junichi and he was quick to shake his head.

"No, it didn't hurt. It was... more one of those things where you expect it to hurt, but it doesn't really." Like when a kid falls down and starts crying even though they didn't hurt themselves at all. The little rush of adrenaline that tells you something is about to hurt, but when you took a breath, you realized it wouldn't even bruise. Kenichi was always a little dramatic, but also reckless, so when they were really little he'd do stuff like that and Junichi would have to check if he was alright... It was embarrassing that he'd just felt that way in training, then, if it was little kid stuff! The very gentle clonk on his head had just surprised him since he couldn't see well.

"Uhm, and it's okay. My glasses get dirty all the time. I need to figure out a solution for that in a fight..." He finished cleaning his glasses and put them back on.

He laughed, a little flustered, when Narihira leaned in and complimented him, too. He turned his gaze to the ground because it made his heart beat faster.

"Thanks. Uh, it's kind of hard to do right. I'm still practicing making it work... Sometimes I can do it faster than that and other times I still struggle, especially if I'm trying to do something else." He'd offer to show Narihira more, but they were both probably trying to keep a few secrets for the actual exams.

"But- but I did have fun training. I feel like I learned a lot even by watching how you handle yourself."

"Oh, good!" he chirped. Nari was happy that the younger boy wasn’t hurt at all. That would have been a bummer to the end of everything, hurting his sparring partner, especially one so much younger.

He didn’t know what to do about Junichi’s glasses, though. He didn’t need the things, nor did he know anyone who used them in combat. The closest he got was his mom’s reading glasses. "Maybe you could get some combat glasses that’re water resistant?" He honestly didn’t even know if they made those, but perhaps they could help the boy...if they existed.

The one handed seals were still cool, even if he was still just learning how to do it. It sounded beyond useful and Nari definitely thought it could be helpful for someone like himself in the future when he learned more ninjutsu to pad his repertoire.

But that was sometime in the future. For now, the boy’s ego was getting boosted a bit, knowing that he had managed to teach the other bukijutsu user something. Junichi had definitely managed to teach Nari a couple things, he was excited to pursue knowledge of the techniques he had seen.

"I’m always happy to train with others," he said, as if he hadn’t been the one to butt himself into Junichi’s training session. "Perhaps we could do it again? After the first part of the Exams?"

That was something he could look forward to once the whole whatever it was they had planned for them got over with.

  A young member of the scattered Araikettei Clan, Narihira has the ability to wield the strange and powerful Life Blades. He created his own Blade at a young age, under the tutelage of his mother, however, instead of making a sword as was common for the Clan members, Narihira designed his in the shape of a polearm.

  Giving it the name Hisuiyuri, he began learning to properly wield it from the moment he could hold it. Due to the connection the blade shares with him, should it ever be broken, both Narihora and the blade's soul would die, so he keeps it on his person at all times and cares for it meticulously.
• 『Deep Chakra Pool』[break]
  Narihira was lucky to be born with a deeper-than-average chakra pool. It allows him to fight and use jutsu for longer periods of time before he tires, compared to those with average-sized chakra pools. It's especially useful for him, due to the fact that his Life Blade is constantly absorbing chakra from him. But thanks to the depth of his stores, he never feels the strain from that drain unless he has depleted the polearm's stores in combat.
• 『Life Blade Chakra』[break]
  As all Life Blades, Hisuiyuri absorbs Nari's chakra continuously as he carries it around, stacking up a decent amount of chakra inside of itself equal to half its wielder's chakra pool. The chakra becomes Hisuiyuri's and cannot be accessed by anyone other than the spear, allowing it to have the ability to self-repair small nicks and scratches it may obtain during combat.

  It also allows Hisuiyuri to have its own built-in security in case someone other than Nari grabs onto it. Using its futon chakra, sharp blades of wind will strike at the stranger's hands and arms until they release the spear. These gouges are minor cuts but they do sting quite a bit if they manage to hit skin.

  When entering combat, Hisuiyuri will use its own stores to fuel its abilities until it runs out and then will begin taking from Narihira. Thanks to his deeper-than-average chakra pools the wielder and weapon are able to go for a decent length of time-fighting in that state, but eventually, it will cause Nari to lose consciousness if the spear takes too much chakra.
• 『Flying Jades』[break]
  Using its natural affinity to fūton, Hisuiyuri is able to detach the six small jade points that line the sides of its spearhead and allow them to hover. By sacrificing the shredding ability the points usually grant the spear, Narihira is able to fire them off either one-by-one or all at once towards his opponents.

  At it's current skill level, Hisuiyuri's points move at a speed slightly quicker than a regular thrown kunai, due to being powered by fūton chakra and Narihira's able to control the path the points take up to 30m.

Water-resistant glasses were an interesting idea. "Maybe," he agreed. "Or ones that can channel a small amount of chakra into them to clean them off..." Though that sounded like that would be pretty expensive. Even keeping up with these current glasses could get really pricey, having to get them fixed after knocking the lenses loose in training, or the frame getting bent when he got hit on a mission. His pay from missions helped cover a lot of it now, but him and his auntie still weren't the best off. He couldn't imagine how expensive custom-made, fancy glasses like that would get.

Maybe it was something he could afford when he promoted. If he ever got promoted...

Before he could get too deep into that particular train of thought, Narihira suggested that the two of them could train together again. Junichi brightened up a little at the thought. He was nervous about the exams, and what would come in them, but having something to look forward to after the first round made him feel a little better about it.

He nodded.

"I would be really happy to have a chance to train with you again," Junichi confirmed. He wanted to say if we both make it through, but thought that might be a little rude or negative, so he held his tongue.
