he inquired on what she would do if a genjutsu were auditory, causing her to imagine a sound instead of something visual she could react to. She gave some suggestions of possible distractions she could use, ways to get herself out of the grips of an auditory genjutsu. He nodded his agreement.

"Though those things may not break or hamper an auditory genjutsu, they can still help you keep your bearings and give you a better chance in battle. Humming is something I've heard is rather effective for some." Though any amount of genjutsu resistance was something that would take a lot of practice and a very dedicated focus.

His explanations left Jun with several questions, which Dai Ri was very happy to answer.

"If you have an ally with you, you might be able to kai them. An important piece of knowledge is that kai is more effective on another individual than it is on yourself. You may be able to avoid pain altogether if you and your ally can both kai each other. However, in the case that the jutsu is too powerful for either of you to escape even with each other's support, inflicting pain on yourselves or each other will indeed be necessary. Sometimes you cannot know the true strength of a genjutsu until you've tried and failed to kai. However, the more complex a genjutsu is the more powerful it likely is, and the more likely you are to need to inflict pain to exit it. At your experience level with genjutsu, even breaking out of a weaker technique might require breaking your fingers or slashing your palm. As you become more experienced with genjutsu, though, those shocks of pain will help more."

As for her question about multiple senses...

"A genjutsu will rarely effect multiple senses on its own. However, some extremely skilled genjutsu specialists are capable of layering genjustu together to compound effects. If you're experiencing multiple genjutsu at once, be wary. It means you're against a very frightful genjutsu user." He himself was capable of such feats, of course.

"Would you like a demonstration of how such a layering would feel?"

Thinking that these were important the girl would take the time to remove her notebook and jot down a few notes. "Try humming or using something to distract yourself form the stimulus…” the girl would mutter to herself.

As he kept speaking looking back up at his as he answered her other questions about having teammates present and how that could potentially work as well as the way that one might be able to interpret the strength of a genjutsu and that sometimes the only way to identify it is by attempting to Kai out of it.

"It would appear that, that would be one of the only methods to identify the strength would be to use Kai, if I’m aware it doesn’t work then I’d best hope I have a teammate on hand, or risk injury.” the girl would think to herself before taking a moment to write down a few notes vocalizing her thoughts aloud, muttering to herself in between her words. "So it’s always good to make sure my opponent knows how to properly deal with Genjutsu understood, otherwise pain is our only option.” the girl would note adding that to her notes as well.

But when it came down to the topic of potentially dealing with genjutsu that affected multiple senses she had been told that this was a phenomenon known as layering and that under those circumstances even at her level it’d be difficult to discern something like this but would offer her a demonstration which made the girls eyes light up.

"Yes please! I-is this perhaps something that I could learn, I have proficiency in multiple disciplines?” the girl would say looking to her instructor waiting for him to begin whilst also wondering if she’d get an answer to her question, unfortunately however due to her nature this wouldn’t be possible.

un expressed a desire to see how the experience of layered genjutsu might feel. Being afflicted with two at once was no laughing matter, so having the experience under her belt could possibly be life-saving for her on the field.

She had a question before he could do this, however. She wanted to know if she, too, could learn how to do this. However, it seemed that she was an individual who was invested in learning as many disciplines as possible. That would hinder her. As the saying went - jack of all trades, master of none.

"Learning how to layer genjutsu requires an extremely dedicated focus on genjutsu. Learning the exact precise chakra control needed to layer the effects without them wiping each other, maintaining both the illusory pathways at once... It's something that even many genjutsu masters never gain the ability to do. If it was a path you wanted to walk, you would surely end up neglecting some of your other studies," he informed her.

"I will not say it is impossible. If you have a knack for it there may yet be a chance, but having worked with many students of many arts, I would say that if you want time to master many disciplines, you may not have the time to dedicate to such exclusive skills."

That said,

"Learning how to deal with it can still be an important skill. The lucky thing about layering genjutsu is this - if you can kai out of the lowest layer of the techniques, you can escape all of them."

Her Chakra control was already poor due to the massive reserves that she was born with and needing to add in so much dedication to one discipline would hinder her other abilities. "I suppose you do have a point, my abilities need to work in unison hyperfixation will only lead to my detriment.”

The girl would look to him but would continue to wonder she knew a few perhaps she could learn a few others that may also assist her in battle, her fighting style consists of putting multiple things together in order to cover her bases a rather tactical combatant.

With that however he would continue on noting that learning how to deal with it rather than attempting to master it would also be beneficial which was the purpose of the lesson for the day. "Then please let us continue!” she’d say waiting for her teacher to begin his explanation. "My apologies for interrupting you sir.” with that she would once again allow him to place her under another one of his many techniques, curious as to if she’d be able to notice the distinction between each once she started.

he apologized for interrupting him and he simply gave her a smile, about as reassuring of one as he could produce (though given his general demeanor, all of his smiles seemed a little ominous, unfortunately). He didn't want her to feel bad - she was curious, and that was a good thing. The entire purpose of this mission was for students to learn. That was why he paid to keep it on the mission docket himself, out of his own funds - these were lessons he found essential for shinobi to know.

Now he could perform the techniques and see how she handled them.

Dai Ri raised his hand to his mouth and used it to perform a shrill whistle. Instantly, Jun would notice the world around her beginning to get slightly spinny. As if she were a child who'd just spun in a dozen circles. Quick to follow that up, Dai Ri would simply state,

"Don't cry." A second genjutsu would follow the first. This one would trick Jun's senses, making her feel as though her tear ducts were incredibly itchy and irritated, her eyes incredibly dry. Visual and tactile jutsu overlapping, causing two distinct distracting experiences. Alone, both of these techniques could be quite annoying, but together, even as simple as they were, they might prove a real problem.

"If you experience dual sensations like this, there is a good chance you are under multiple genjutsu. Luckily, if you perform a kai, you will be release from both. However, there is another kind of genjutsu I haven't yet described to you. This is lingering genjutsu - can you guess what that means?"

One of the more simple genjutsu within the Magen, Demonic Illusion, tree. Don't Cry, once triggered by saying its name, tricks the touch sensations of a target's tear ducts. This irritation has the possibility to cause the target to cry profusely or enough irritation to dry out an enemies' eye. Whether or not these things happen is up to the victim, this jutsu is a mild nuisance over long periods of time.

[attr="class","skullbody"]As the girl took down her notes the lesson would continue once he had her attention once again he would let out a whistle and her world would begin to spin, she felt a bit disoriented and held onto her chair in order to keep herself focused attempting to remember his methods.

But then suddenly she found herself entrapped within yet another genjutsu as her eyes began to water and she began to run her hands towards them able to feel the water running down the sides of her eyelids but also distracted by the disorienting ringing she wanted to stand but felt if she did she might find herself stumbling about on the ground. Eventually after coming to her senses and shutting her eyes for long enough she would perform the seal to break out of the genjutsu using Kai thus allowing her to regain control of her faculties.

She’d shake her head a tad. "Being under such techniques is rather disorienting, I wonder if one could induce some form of psychosomatic disorder as a result of prolonged exposure.” she’d wonder to herself after finishing her musings Dai Ri would then remark that there was yet another type of genjutsu she had yet to be exposed too known as lingering genjutsu.

"That seems to mean a genjutsu that potentially last longer than its usual desired effects?” the girl would state eagerly looking to her teacher she wasn’t certain if she was right but she did her best to make her most educated guess.

sychosomatic disorder - an interesting speculation. Dai Ri nodded and let out a low hum, a thoughtful sort of noise.

"It is certainly possible. Prolonged or repeated exposure to genjutsu can be traumatizing for targets. If someone is kept in captivity for long enough with a recurring audio genjutsu, sometimes they will begin to hallucinate the noise even when it is no longer present. Or they'll have a fear response to merely the sound of the trigger, even if you don't perform the genjutsu. It's an aggressive sort of conditioning," he said. He produced a bell from his sleeve. "There are many imprisoned within these walls who would crawl beneath their bed and hide if they so much as heard the sound of this bell."

Genjutsu was a very dangerous tool, and it could be used very cruelly. Dai Ri used such measures sparingly, but he was evidently not against employing them.

"As for lingering genjutsu, this is not a bad guess - however, the truth of the matter is that a lingering genjutsu is one that waits in the wings, acting as a sort of trap. It hides behind the first genjutsu cast and when you kai out of the first, then it activates. So you might escape one genjutsu only to find yourself dizzied and tripping over yourself."

[attr="class","skullbody"]As the girl would listen to the head interrogator he seemed intrigued by her concept and would go on to explain that it is possible for individuals to potentially hallucinate after being under the prolonged effects of genjutsu for some time and effective method for breaking someone during an interrogation and something Jun would note down thinking to possibly employ these methods in the future. "Something to take note of for use on future adversaries if needed sir." the girl would say somewhat dutifully.

As the topic of lingering genjutsu came to the fore front, she was informed that it acts as some sort of trap that you are effectively crafting another genjutsu to act as a trap once another is dispelled. "Fascinating...however you stated that these particular techniques require immense chakra control?" the girl would ponder on that concept for but a moment.

"Oh my, kingdom to be able to grasp or study such abilities further." the girl seemingly pouted but had a smile on her face clearly she was enjoying herself. "I must say sir this has been rather enlightening! Is there more to study?" the girl had said still eager to learn more her penchant for scholarly arts knows no bounds but even the head interrogator had more to do with his day as much as she was certain he'd love to keep helping her.

mmense chakra control was right - Dai Ri confirmed that she was remembering right by nodding slightly. He further explained,

"Genjutsu itself is already a delicate art. Consider the nature of the kai. It's when you force a flush of chakra through the system in order to display the invading chakra causing a genjutsu. It then follows that if you tried to follow a genjutsu by laying another, the chakra that you send in would displace your first technique. Implementing layered or lingering genjutsu in such a way that both techniques enter the mind at once without disturbing one another is an incredibly delicate task that cannot be accomplished by people without refined chakra control."

Though one could never truly consider such things a total impossibility, Dai Ri at least thought it was incredibly unlikely that one could master these strategies without being capable of controlling their chakra very precisely.

Then Jun asked if there was more to study. She was always an eager student and was always searching for more knowledge.

Producing a bit of parchment and a brush, Dai Ri would lean over his desk to begin to write. He dipped his brush in the inkwell nearby and started to list out titles of some books. The Ikeda Course on Genjutsu, Sensory Perception and Persuasion, The Psychological Warfare of Genjutsu, and Jigoku: Bringing Hell to the Battlefield.

"If you visit Yukigakure's library and look for these titles in the area which only allows shinobi of this village, you should be able to find something that interests you."

He waited a moment for the ink to dry, then rolled up the parchment and offered it to Jun.
